The first appointment at Compass is a free consultation so I figured why not, nothing to lose. That one appointment taught me more about what was actually going on with my body than years of other providers combined! Reed was the first person to not only find the issue but actually explain it to me in a way that made sense. This was also my first time trying electroacupuncture and I think that combination of finally having the right diagnosis AND the right treatment is what has actually made a difference for me. The sessions themselves were also nothing like I expected. You stay fully clothed the whole time, no sheet, no gown, nothing like that. Reed just asks you to wear a tank top so access to your shoulders and arms is easily. The space is calm, the beds or blankets are heated, and Reed listens and actually explains what is going on. I'm still going and still seeing improvement. If you've been dealing with something other providers have missed, the free consultation alone is worth it!

The acupuncturist determined I should receive electroacupuncture (this is where they charge the needles with imperceptible amounts of electricity to enhance the treatment) but he did not have a tool to measure the electrical charge, so his method was to turn up the charge at each point until I could feel it, which was very uncomfortable, and he did not tell me this was going to happen until I was already hooked up on the table. I had to see a doctor and buy several types of medication, accessories, and ointments (arm braces, gabapentin, lidocaine, capsaicin cream, etc.) and do daily stretches to relieve the nerve pain from these sessions. Another friend who has seen him also said the treatment left him in pain. A couple of side notes... 1. at my second session, he forgot to give me the emergency button that calls him into the room if I need help during treatment and I had to remind him, and 2. his dog was in the treatment room with us and scratched my nice leather loafers. Reed is a nice guy, easy to talk to, and was thorough in inquiring into my past injuries and bodily experiences, going all the way back to childhood, but after what happened to me, I will not be going back here.

Anyway - long story short I took the class. I have lost almost 85 lbs and am off all of my medication. I have been using her methods of healing to cure a growing nodule in my lung. I arrived too late to get an accugraph - my fault - had the best sweat in the sauna since a costa rican sweat lodge, had my session with Jessica and ended up crying too much to let Tai Rae do a massage. I think I left 20lbs of toxins on the floors and in the air. I sent her an email when I got home telling her she might want to smudge. ;) I was so exhausted when I got home but I felt so much lighter and in much less pain.
