If you read my previous posts, I loved this place and followed this guy every time he moved or lost his lease or whatever. Anyway, things have unfortunately changed since he wound up on Welcher Ave! You now have to deal with his assistant who speaks little to no English. Difficult to say the least! Concerning craftsmanship, I had new heels put on a pair of dress shoes. I had to return TWICE in 30 days to have the same shoe repaired! On another pair of dress shoes, the sole split from the upper and was repaired. That shoe ALSO had to be returned for corrective work! I came to the Sole Man with a mission-critical task. Shine my boots, but please get them back to me by the end of the day (if possible). The proprietor (the Sole Man himself!) not only assured me that I could get my boots back by the end of the day, but in two hours if I really wanted. Fantastic! While speaking with The Sole Man, I noticed many beautiful driftwood sculptures in the back of the shop. Turns out, the proprietor is not only a cobbler, but uses driftwood that he collects along the Hudson River to create figurines and "statues." His art is available for sale; all you have to do is ask. I returned to the shop two hours, to find the Sole Man assembling a microphone and hooking up a sound system outside of the shop. "What are you doing?" I asked. "Oh, you know, I'm also in a band and I'm performing later this afternoon." Sheesh. What DOESN'T this guy do? Sure enough, $7 ($5 for shoes) and 2 hours later, my boots looked new again. I was told that the polish used would absorb more easily into the leather and prevent the leather from eventually becoming dried out and damaged. If you're from the neighborhood or heading to the Peekskill Metro-North and need your shoes repaired, I would urge you to support this local businessman, artist, and asset to our community. Grand Central shoe shine guy would love your business, but I'm certain that the Sole Man will do a much better job (for less) and deliver a much more personal experience. read more

Talk about local business, Sole Man is the real deal. Thank gawd he came to town cause there's nothing I know of north of Dobbs Ferry or the city to get shoes fixed. This man does the J-O-B right, when you need it and at good value. Location is perfect for the commuter who's stylin'. Then there's the Sole Man himself. Gotta love this renaissance man who marches to his own drummer. The soulful tunes on the player are hot, the vibe is cool and the service down home. Thanks Sole Man. You're SUPER. read more

A true craftsman!! Fair price for excellent work! It's my go to place for shoe repair. I have used the Crestwood and Dobbs Ferry shoe repair guys in a pinch, only to bring them to the Sole Man to do the job I wanted done..... Don't waste your time elsewhere. Look at my photo so you can see that this is not some troll post, but an actual objective critique of workmanship. Nice guy, but not a craftsman at all! Total cost...$165 The rubber heels were not cut flush with the rest of the leather heel lift and there is a gap between the original leather and where the rubber was glued on. The leather stack on the heel lift was not built up correctly and looks like it has been scratched and scraped, not smooth like a professional replacement. The rubber heels were STAPLED! There are also heel taps, but none of these have been perfectly aligned. The bottom pair is the worst...why even bother to put them on if they are in the wrong spot? Oh yea, they are also STAPLED! Missed the original hole where the NAILS go! The topy rubber soles are vibram material; that is where the quality ends. Look at the glue oozing out...a professional would have cleaned this up and not let it be so apparent. Remember: I actually have to wear these in front of people! Also, why is one topy cut straight on but the other one mangled on each shoe? Why does the topy installed on the top-left pair extend so close to the heel? These are Cole Haan's, dude...you covered the name brand in rubber and gorilla glue! Don't let me flip these shoes over and start a review on the other side...These shoes would be an embarrassment to wear, so hopefully I can actually take them to a professional for fixing, but likely they have been ruined! STAPLES, dude??? And I was charged top dollar...I should have taken these to Brooklyn like I had originally intended, but I want to support my hometown businesses. Ahh well, good thing I didn't give him my really expensive shoes! So much for 5 stars...now you all can SEE what kind of work he does! Never again! read more

I had 5 pairs repaired at once, and the soles on 3 pair came apart in less than a year. The place is not cheap and they do a poor job! Also, the store does not keep regular hours. Twice I went to the shop during posted store hours and owner was not there, so I had to make a return trip. Will never return again! read more

On Saturday, I went to Sole Man Shoe Repair to have my summer heels fixed; the turn around time was under 7 minutes. Heels fixed the same day and I was on my way. Terrific service, great price. read more

I can't believe I waited so many years to bring my shoes to Sole Man. I am beyond thrilled with their workmanship, their knowledge, their friendliness, their reasonable prices. They saved two shoes chewed by my dog- I was so relieved. They polished, repaired, and replaced heels on two more pairs that still have lots of life in them. A true Peekskill treasure. Very professional, and kind- He refused to charge me when I needed a handle on a suitcase re sewn after my dog chewed it...He does first rate shoe repair at very reasonable rates. Also has really cool, funky sculptures in his shop. read more
