I've been going to this salon on and off for 8 years. Justin and Cheris are both wonderful managers, and everybody working over the years has been kind and efficient. The beds are well maintained - I never worry about old bulbs. The decor is chic and artsy, and everything is always clean. I've also done the cocoon many times - an infra red sauna bed that is perfect for rejuvenating after a long week. They don't always pick up the phone, but that's probably because they are working hard at the salon. Just show up and they probably have something for you. read more

The place would have gotten a 4, but some kinks in my experience I had to reflect it in the rating. I came here because I got a free spray tan flyer in the mail, and just when I was looking to get one too! I've been to a few different places, but really liked the Versa Spa system (my lengthy description here: http://www.yelp.ca/biz/luxe-tanning-studio-toronto#hrid:yONksdIw9iO6C7ZL4CvOEw). Of the ones I've tried, it's the one not only with a built in dryer, but leaves you natural looking and not streaky at all. I'm so paranoid about showering, and afraid it will rub off, and it does none of these things. You also have the option of getting a primer and a hydrating finisher. So I get there, after a long time trying to find parking. Parking is available on the side streets (Charles only after 6pm) There are paid spots if you can find them on st joesph one street south. Otherwise, your best best is the lot across the way on Charles off Yonge ($2.00 every half hour). I had an appointment, but she didn't really take the into concern. As I was checking in, the phone rang and she spend the next 10 mins explaining something, when I knew she could have either put them on hold, or have me started on the intake form. Anyway. The rooms were standard, nice and clean. It didn't smell like spray tan , and everything was prepared for me. I had told her that I wanted the pre and post sprays, and I know, since I've used the system before, that it comes in separate sprays. You get a front and a back, then dry front/back. Then you get 4 sprays of colour (front, left side, right side, and back), then dry x2 front/back, then you get the 2 sprays of hydrating finisher, then dry. When I went in there, there was only the colour spray. I even picked up the pamphlet to check. When I asked her about it, (and I had to put all my clothes back on) she was like, isn't it all together in one spray. I explained to her my experience and showed her the pamphlet, and after a while, she admitted she made a mistake. I had a few choices, next time I came in, she would give me a credit. Or go in again and do a level 1 tan with a finisher spray. Or buy some cream. I took the chance, and didn't get anything and asked for my money back. The point of these extra sprays is supposed to make you tan last longer. I exfoliated like mad last night, and as long as I hydrate a lot afterwards, it would last. I really only needed it to last for tomorrow any how. The other thing was missing was photos on the Versa System for the 4 different poses you need to get to. This is good for someone that's never done it before. Check out the pamphlet on the side, it has all the info in there. And another tip, when it sprays your face, hold your breath!! I'd come back here. Beats travelling all the way to King West. --- update: since posting this review, I got a very nice response from the owner making up for my experience and we're exchanged some messages about the salon itself. Showed up at 6:55 simply to buy a tanning lotion. Was told through a locked door that they "close at 7". I showed the time and said I was only purchasing lotion. Was told no they actually already closed. In all my time in customer service I was always told to stay open till the last minute of anything stay open longer. Needless to say they lost an easy sale. Great beds, alright prices, terrible customer service. The ladies working there are not interested in your safety or comfort and are constantly trying to sell you packages and lotions. They get upset when you ask too many questions and don't clean the beds in time or keep your waiting. I signed up for a package and billed it to my credit card. They failed to tell me that I needed to call my credit card company and cancel the package after two months and I ended up owing them $200.00! They called my house and cellphone numerous times saying they would report me to a credit company which would give me poor credit in the future. I had no clue what they were talking about. I was furious when the lady began to argue with me and say that her employees always tell the customer the policy and when to cancel. I was never given a form or a reminder or any information on the need to cancel. Will not be going back. read more

Have lived in Yorkville for 20 years and have been using salon services ever since Unfortunately tonight I was very disappointed and I will definitely make sure I will share this review with all my followers ,my clients ,friends and family so they can be aware of what to expect if they use your business However, if you start with the basics and making sure your staff is trained to be aware of the importance of respect to customers what is a courtesy to respected and valued clients maybe you will be more recognize as a business with a better customer service. In case of a situation where the customer has the right to choose for himself to meet the services without violating the rules obviously the employee can only recommend and give advice and not argue with the client ... ! Sol'exotica was my first experience spray tanning, and I'm very happy with the customer service I received while I was there. An associate named Kaya showed me how to use the machine, taking the time to explain every detail and to make sure I understood her instructions for prep and the actual application process. Absolutely amazing customer service I must say, she made me feel very comfortable and confident about my first attempt at a spray tan. The facility is very clean and the VersaSpa technology left me with a beautiful, glowy, even tan, that isn't orange even though I naturally have very fair skin! I've been to a few tanning salons in the Yorkville/Bloor area and Sol'exotica never disappoints me. I've done both the bed and the Versa Spa spray tan and always received outstanding service from very nice, and knowledgable staff. The girls always take their time to explain to me all the functions of the beds, proper poses for the spray tan and after maintenance to ensure a longer lasting tan. Clean, friendly, easy access, never had a problem getting one of the beds I want without an appointment, althou I'm sure they'd rather an appointment was made . Very nice clean open airy space at 9 Isabella. Arianna and Justen are both very knowledgeable In running the salon and offer little tips for a maximum tan for your skin tone. I'm fair skinned prone to burn. I've never burnt once there by listening to their instructions about how to build to a tan to my max. Now i can go in the strongest bed without (fear of) getting burned. They know what they are talking about there! Love it and wouldn't go anywhere else. Always leave happy and relaxed. Well, William M. will probably state that this is a fake review because I'm not in the system, and no, I'm not in the system, because I didn't tan... maybe it has to do with the fact that I didn't get the chance to. I came to this place around noon on a weekday a few weeks ago, and I asked the receptionist if there were any available tanning beds. She said there were but I had to call to make an appointment. What is this - a hospital? You know what? I look fabulous now having tanned somewhere else - no thanks to your rude receptionist or your services! PS: Also checked out the packages they have in place. Minimum three month membership. What is this - eHarmony? I recently have decided to cut fake tanning out of my life but I have been to my fair share of tanning joints. I've been to their location on church and the one by rainbow cinema. Both are very clean and nicely designed.. They have somewhat up to date technology . They used to carry a much wider range of tanning lotions but now it seems they're sticking to one or two lines- none of which I recognize . I had a monthly package, my visa got stolen so I got new one so my monthly charge with them got declined and they ended up charging me a silly fee.. As well as that, there were hefty cancellation fees which always bothers me! To get a certain package deal I had to buy a useless cream that apparently retains your tan longer for like $20.. Waste of money Staff up sells you every little thing they can -which is fair enough As I'm sure they have targets but there's only a certain amount of times I want to be told I should use 'better" lotions or a "better" tanning bed! There aren't really any smiles coming from the staff either! Anyhow the best decision I made was to start using fake tanning creams and NO MORE beds! It's so bad for your skin and health!!! I strongly do not recommend this tanning salon try another. You have to fill out a form which gives them access to with draw money from your account when you sign up. To cancel you have to give 90 days notice hand in a letter that you no longer what to tan there to the front desk, email, and fax head office. They don't care what is going on in your life. Lotions are pricey. The beds are okay but the place itself is just so normal no special feel when you walk in. The people at the counter are always pushing to buy something read more

Really wish I had had a better experience as this location is so convenient - but I definitely won't be going back. I went in for Versa Spa last Thursday and the same thing happened to me as Laura! Even though I asked for the prep and hydration spray, the girl didn't enter it properly - leaving me with just the colour spray. When I came out and asked for a refund, it took the girl 15 minutes messing around with the debit machine, until finally she offered to pay me back in cash. She then handed me a ten dollar bill... and when I asked her about the tax that I had paid on top of the ten bucks, she simply said "oh, there's no tax on those". I didn't feel like arguing with her, so I left. Sure enough, when I checked my receipt later, I had paid tax on them! Do yourself a favour and make the trek to Luxe. read more

I recently moved to Calgary but before I moved I had tanned with Sol since 2011. I couldn't be happier with their beds and service. All of the equipment is new and top of the line. I had to write this review because I just had to say how much I miss it and how hard it is to find a place to tan as top notch as Sol'exotica. This salon is really as good as it gets. The service, equipment and products are top notch. I also use the owners other 2 salons in Toronto. It's really one stop shopping when you come here. The promotions for lotions and tanning are very competitive and it's easy to get the best products available. I find the owners and the staff to be extremely friendly and high energy. I love coming to tan and love the way I feel after. It's really a great all around experience when I come here. Kristina is Wonderful to deal with and Kaya and Paul are very helpful and knowledgeable. I have done the stand up, lay down and spray tans. I've done the double dip a night before a special event and it brings back all my color. I find it's a great place to transform my spirits and my appearance at the same time. There are also a lot of promotions that they tell me about so I try everything. It's all great. You guys are rock at Sol'exotica can't wait to come tanning again. Highly recommend this salon with 5 stars. I now live in ancaster so will join the Sol'Exotica here but every time I'm in Toronto I'll make sure I stop by for a tan. Triple dip. I had such a fantastic experience at Sol'exotica on Thursday that I just HAD to write a review about it. My friend and I purchased Groupons for two spray tans each. Neither of us had ever been spray tanning before and are both pretty white so we were a bit nervous for our first experience. The girl at the front desk explained every detail of the experience to us, even demonstration what we needed to do! She did not try to sell us anything extra, but when we asked about future tanning she was very helpful and informative. Our tans are nice and BROWN. Not a hint of orange. There is a bit of streaking near me feet, but that is because it was raining outside. :S If you are nervous before you go just google Versa Spray Tan. I'll start with a disclaimer, and it's that I have only been a client at Sol'exotica for 2 days now. So my opinion is limited to my experiences in those 2 days and could change. However, these have been a fantastic 2 days. I went in with a free tanning card from my apartment building (Jazz by Concert properties) after moving in. I was greeted by a man and given a form to fill out (sorry, I don't know his name... only man I've seen working there so far). The skin type survey was pretty standard, but thorough. I was assigned Skin Type IV and chose to do a Level 2 tan in a standup booth. I was served by Megan, who informed me very objectively (NOT pushy) about the different memberships and lotions (she gave me a sample packet), and made sure that I had protective eyewear (I didn't, so she provided me with disposable stickies). She also told me that as a tenant at Jazz, I had the option of an unlimited 3-month membership with the 1st month 50% off (about $30) and that if I signed up, I would get 20% off any lotion. Again, all of this was presented very factually, not in a pushy way at all. I felt I was being fairly presented with the options. I tanned for 6 minutes in the standup, and it was awesome because there was pumping music in the booth and I just danced the whole time. The volume is adjustable from the inside of the booth as well as the fans. After that session, I decided to go for the unlimited membership. I filled out a short form (most of my information was already included in the first form, so she didn't make me repeat everything) and was given a small tag that is used to collect rewards. You scan it on the iPad mini on the front desk every time you come in and it collects points, and you have a 1 in 20 odd of winning a prize. I bought a Biofusion lotion after Megan gave me a few options, listened to what I wanted and helped me find one I would like. I also bought eyewear for $5. The total came to $95 after the 50% membership discount and 20% lotion discount. Today I went in for another session, scanned by card and boom! I won a body lotion! I was expected sort of a travel sized bottle, but no, I had 3 options and they were full sized bottles. I got the Australian Gold "Forever after" all day moisturizer - a 650mL bottle for free. So far I'm really happy. Despite being very busy, the customer service was great. All 3 employees that have served or greeted me have been very knowledgeable, patient, professional, and friendly. I can only speak for the standup tanning booth, but it was good quality and the music is an awesome touch. My tan is even and glowing after just two 6-minute sessions. The skin on my face and chest is improving (acne was a factor in my wanting to tan) already. One thing to keep in mind is you need to book ahead over the phone. I didn't do it either times I went in and I managed to still get placed in a booth but both times the employees expressed the importance of booking ahead (not in a rude way though). Some people may not like this, it doesn't really bother me because I live so conveniently close. All in all, it is great business with employees who take great care in customer satisfaction, and the added perks are amazing. My one very minor complaint is I wish there were more options for creams, this isn't really about Sol'exotica more about the tanning lotion manufacturer industry, because it seems they all contain some form of glycerine (often made from animals) or silicone (not good long-term for the skin). This also accounts for the 'natural' lotions - I admit that the biofusion has pretty good plant based ingredients, but also some unknown sketchy ones. I'm vegan so this is a concern for me, I typically do not use glycerine in case it is made from animals (it can also be vegetable glycerine which is fine, but tracking this information down can be hard). Just something to consider when tanning, not necessarily tanning at Sol'exotica. read more

I recently called to put my contract on hold. I had to leave Toronto unexpectedly and I was unable to visit the store to do so. I was told I couldn't cancel my contract, and that I would have to visit the store in person to fill out paperwork. I will not be in Toronto for an extended period and I find it completely unreasonable to refuse to cancel or put a contract on hold once the company has received notice of a customers intention to do so. At the time I signed my contract I was told I would have to provide advance notice to cancel my contract. I was also told I could put my contract on hold at any time. I was NEVER told I would have to visit the store in person to cancel. In fact, I was told I would simply have to let them know. Having read a comment below, it appears another past customer was able to file her cancellation with head office. I was told over the phone that head office couldn't do anything that an individual store couldn't do. Now I'm confused. I just wanted to put my contract on hold but now I just want to cancel. I just want to pay the cancelation fee and get out of this contract. read more

I have never written a bad review about any business because working in the customer service arena is hard enough and everyone has a bad day sometimes. I like to follow the philosophy that life is too short to hold grudges. However, I am extremely unhappy with this place and it is my responsibility to share this experience. I have come at this location well as the Church one a few times and never have I encountered such a rude, inconsiderate, abrupt and even nasty individual as the gentleman that 'helped' me. His name escapes me now because I hated the experience so much and his attitude made me so uncomfortable I couldn't even look at him most of the time. He is tall and blonde. I will post his name if it comes to mind. I came in March 15, 2014 around 6:30pm, I politely asked if there were any available beds and the guy responded in a very condescending and lecturing tone. Educating me that because it was a Saturday there were no bed available at the time and I need to make appointments. I simply asked if and when will the strongest bed be available. He responded 7pm. I booked the time and came back. I asked which was the strongest bed and asked to do 10 min to which he said "'NO, it's not going to happen because you are too fair." The tone was extremely rude. I don't burn and it is hard for my skin to tan but when it tans it gets dark. I did not want to make mine or his day worse than what he has done with his horrible attitude, so I thanked him and took his advice. In addition to the above, I had to ask him for goggles and lotion. He was so unhappy to be working there he did not even want to sell products that are available for tanning. This particular day, I also left my ring that my father and mother had purchased for me as a graduation gift in the room. I know I left it there because I took it off to put lotion on. No one called me and when I called to ask if they found it, the person on the phone stalled a little and said no. I have had that ring for three years. It is a Tiffany ring that has a gap in the middle and the two sides have hearts on them. I am willing to pay for it back. It means more than the materialistic symbol it holds. I have phoned back to check and considering the gentleman's attitude, I highly doubt he did the moral and ethical thing by placing it in the lost and found compartment. I would like management to know that they are not hiring nice people. I understand that this is not a lucrative job but it does not mean that you get the right to act rude and despicable with your clients. After all, we are the ones keeping you in business. Lesson learned. I will never return and will make sure I share this experience with every social media I have. Thank you. read more

I have always been meaning to write a 5* star review for this place but after a call I received today from the salon I felt so strongly as to come on to yelp and tell people my experience. I joined two years ago for 5 months and cancelled my membership as I only like tanning a few months of the year. I saw a groupon last year for a deal there and so I redeemed that and joined as a member afterwards for 3-4 months. This year I decided to get the groupon again as per the terms of the groupon "it is not available to exisiting clients" which I wasn't. I went to the salon and redeemed the groupon and upgraded to the level 7 for an extra $35. I am about ten days in to my groupon and today I received a call from the salon telling me I was no longer welcome in the salon as I tried to scam them by using a groupon twice. The girl hung up on me when I tried to explain I was under the impression I could use it as I wasn't an existing member under the terms of the groupon and they had accepted my groupon in the salon over a week ago. I called back and the girl refused to give me her name while shouting at me I was scamming them and to take it up with groupon and hung up again. I called them a further number of times but they refused to take my call and hung up. Very unprofessional in my view seeing as you are saying you are the manager but are refusing to give your name and shouting at me. I decided to call head office and explained the situation I told them I was in shock from the unprofessional manner of the manager and that she refused to give me her name. Ten minutes later I received a call from Amanda the manager wherby she formally apologized to me and offered to let me use out the rest of my groupon but going forward I could not do this again. I thanked her for the apology but told her I would not be using the salons services after my groupon again. This place don't deserve the business. She had said head office had told her how to handle the situation and I said to her maybe she should have called them first before ringing me and going off on one. She confirmed it was a staff error and the girl who overrode the system by allowing me to use the groupon a second time had been dealt with. This place has 5* services available but with new management I am giving it a 1*. Get yourselves sorted out! it is unacceptable and your losing me as a client. My advice is to go elsewhere where people treat their clients with respect. read more

As a past client of Sol' exotica, i found this salon to be the best I've ever tanned at. I transferred from another location, the associate I spoke with was extremely helpful and helped me pick a similar package (as at some locations the packages and pricing do vary). Making my initial experience with Sol' exotica already a good one. After being a client for a while I got to know more of the staff and found them all to be very helpful, knowledgable, and caring about clients. The lotion selection the best I've ever seen and LOVE the Mr. International line. I would recommend this salon to everyone and make sure you try a 'double dip' at least once! read more

Best beds in the buisness, top of the line products ranging from very inexpensive to super expensive, friendly staff! Even though they have the locked in monthly contracts, they offer really enticing benefits to them now, like the all inclusive which offers you a free tanning bottle from their whole collection (which means you can get anything that retails from 30-200 dollars, plus access to all their beds and spray unlimited for a month at a cost of $150, they also offer a point incentive system now where the more times you use the salon and tap your membership card you have the chance to win more free products. I LOVE the staff at the St. lawrence market location, they are super knowledgable, they give great personalized recommendations, and i dont find them to be pushy in any way they seem to genuinely just care about you having a great experience :) Ive gone to this salon on and off for two years now and i think that if you may have had a bad experience in the past, theyve definitely worked hard to change their system, and rectify those glitches that made people feel as if it wasn't the best service, so give them a try I dont think you will regret it :) read more

I had a Groupon for this tanning salon and was quite impressed. Staff are very polite and friendly and take the time to explain the processes. Good prices on the packages. The Versa spray tan is amazing and turned out well on my very fair skin. Will go again! Only minuses are the booking system- you have to call, no online booking- and the tanning room was kind of cold. I will start by saying I am not the biggest fan of tanning spas albeit they have their pros and cons. I always like to get a few tans in prior to a vacation to a sunny location and tried Sol'exotica. Last time I went away I tried another spa. I was much happier with Sol'exotica and the results I got. I ended up going 5 times and now have a nice base for my vacation. The location I visited was 718 Yonge street location. I got the 30 day unlimited and looks like I will only be using it the 5 times so works out to maybe $15.00 / tan. Not the best deal but not the worst. Amanda on the telephone helped me pick the best deal for me and Aryanna at the counter helped me also pick the best package for me. Not sure when I will be back but I just want to say thanks to Aryanna / Amanda / Nelly who were working the days I came in to tan, all showed professionalism, were friendly and also showed their great work-ethic as they are answering the phones, cleaning tanning beds after people leave, dealing with the customers who are coming / going for tans and all were personable as I tried to create conversation with them. Customer service is atrocious here. There are rarely ever appointments available, and it's so overpriced.
