I want to be as fair and balanced as I can here: Jimmy J's Motorcycle Service & Repair (JJMSR)…read moreoffers some undeniable positive traits: a) both principals are genuine, well-meaning, and lovely people b) JJMSR have an undeniable passion for motorcycles and motorcycle people c) JJMSR's costs are reasonable and honest But I'm afraid the rest of it is a shambles. I brought my 80s vintage UJM to JJMSR for a 'winter build' into a café racer. As it was explained to me, JJMSR takes a maximum of 6 bikes in the fall (October), builds them over the winter, and then delivers them back to you, ready to go in the spring (presumably April/May). I dropped my bike off in mid-October along with a number of parts and some clear instructions/directions for the build: so far, so good. Then nothing happened for months. Around February, I started to get nervous, so started to prompt them for timing - and for an estimated budget. I was invited for a meeting, where I had to explain my instructions and design requests all over again. I was reassured that they had a tank for me, somewhere out back, which I shouldn't worry about (the shape of the tank is a primary design element in café racer conversions). It emerged in March that I was missing some pieces that, it turned out, I was expected to source, buy, and supply: learning curve for me: many builders do not supply or purchase parts for you: they just build with what you give them. OK, but I would have loved to have known that in October when I dropped the bike off, instead of learning this as the snow was starting to melt. 4 months wasted time when AliExpress parts could have been travelling from China. Next it turns out, now April, that the gas tank JJMSR thought they had for me wouldn't work: too small, wouldn't fit. I had to go and source a tank. Which I did, cursing, within 12 hours, and on very vague specifications. The following weekend, I'm told the tank I bought also doesn't fit - also too small, doesn't fit etc. I visit the next day to take the old tank back, and, lo and behold, JJMSR's found yet another tank in his back room that DOES fit and actually looks quite nice. We agree that JJMSR will give me this third tank in exchange for the second tank I bought the day before, for $300, from the local bike junk-yard. By June, I'm getting very angry. I explain that the local riding club I belong to has an annual Father's Day ride, and I'll be freaking with rage if I miss that ride. Will it be ready? Yes, JJMSR promises, it will. I arrive the day before, pick up the bike which seems to be running fine, and ride it home. Terrific. The next day, Father's Day, I go into the garage to find the bike standing in a pool of gas: the entire full tank now on the garage floor. Bike totally dead. I miss my ride and have to have the bike towed back to JJMSR. JJMSR is stumped, but re-builds the carbs with new parts that I order. 2 more weeks pass. The bike is running fine on a Friday; I arrive on Saturday and it won't start - so I have to leave empty-handed. it turns out that some dirt was on the carb needles blah blah blah. It's late June now and I still don't have the bike back. One last round of tinkering and I finally pick it up for good. Sounds great, runs well. I take it out the next day for a long ride up to Keswick and back with my club, including 120 km/h on the DVP and 404 etc. - a terrific day except for, literally, the last 10 meters of riding when I realize my brakes are becoming a bit spongy. But as this realization dawns, I'm at my garage, so I park it . . . but it bothers me all evening. Before bed I go out and give the brakes a test squeeze and, sure enough, I have zero brakes. I walk it around the corner to Flying Squirrel and learn 2 days later that my brakes have completely bled dry because the brake lines weren't tightened and are missing two washers. Not tightened! They were slowly bleeding dry the whole time I was bombing down the 404 and I'm lucky as f*** that they only crapped out when they did, within view of my garage - otherwise that could have been very, very bad. That was the last contact I had with them -- even though they still owe me my original 80s gas tank back. At this point, they can keep it. When I was able to inspect my build a bit more dispassionately, I noticed several things, most of which betrayed either a panicky sense of haste or a lack of awareness or care about craftsmanship - careless touches like using 4" long bolts on the license plate, where ¼" bolts would have done the job just fine and been far more sleek. Various things seemed just slapped on - unsurprising when you're almost 4 months late on a build and your client is getting increasingly angry with you. Our options in Ontario for motorcycle builders are limited, but even then, I couldn't recommend Jimmy J's Motorcycle Service & Repair for anything more immediate and simple than an oil change. Caveat Emptor!

Worse bike builder. I dropped off my bike in summer of 2015 and it has been a complete nightmare…read more I finally didn't get it back till summer of 2016 because he said that he had to move out east. I got the bike home and it started. But the next day it wouldn't start. So he said he had to move out east I wasn't able to get a hold of him to get it fixed. He literally took my money and didn't give me a proper bike. On top of that it is pretty unsafe to ride because of the welds. It's going to cost me more money to get it fixed instead of buying a new bike. Don't trust JJMR. Trust me. Worst experience.

Place was empty, younger guy at front grabbed one item I asked for and shot down every other item on my list with "You'll have to talk to Dave, he's in the back. You'll have to talk to Dave, blue shirt. Talk to Dave about that." Okay sure, I'm happy to talk to Dave about basic scooter parts and accessories. But why are you rushing me out and ringing me up like I just walked in at closing? Why don't you talk to Dave or introduce me? So I found Dave, he was unimpressed too, with both of us. I came for advice and to spend money not to be made to feel like a total schmuck wasting their time. Since both of them wanted me to leave I did and I found what I wanted on Amazon - at half the cost!

Great clean shop with friendly people…read more I love walking in here and just browsing through all of the gear and the bikes. It's not snobby like some shops and they are always open to talking bikes and giving advice for your ride. I buy almost everything here for my old CB450 now. The prices are on par with anywhere else I've been in the area but price isn't as important to me as having knowledgeable, good staff to rely on and a place I'm happy to walk into when I need something for my motorcycle. I highly reccomend the ipone brand they carry for oil, and chain cleaner &lube. It's really fantastic stuff that my old Honda engine seems to run better on. The cleaner is just awesome at melting the gunk and off the chain.
