The name says it all! I felt like I was in a solid state! The beers are super cheap! They have my sour beer that I love. Most items were under $10! You can also bring your own food into the spot. Last call was at midnight on a Sunday! Not too bad to be honest. My group and I played board games. They have a ton of games. The space was welcoming and clean. I appreciate they had pinball in the back. You definitely need cash to play that. It was $1 for one turn with many balls. I don't know why someone would add $3 to the machine. ::bathroom alert: The bathrooms were super clean and stocked. I was very happy it wasn't a row of stalls. Just a singular bathroom. I hosted my birthday party at Solid State, and had a wonderful time! I gave the manager a heads up - even though they were expecting another party, they worked with me so that I could still have my party. The staff were super helpful, and my friends and I enjoyed the excellent cocktails (as well as the extensive beer selection). 10/10 would do again. read more

I've been coming here for over a year now, it's such a convenient location and perfect for groups but it deserves the hype I see others reviewing it. Can't deny, I love the vibes, the ambience is so chill and sometimes they have live music and quiz nights. Food wise: My friend Steven told me you can order and eat here which I've seen, but I have ordered ramen from the bar before, soooo good lol. Popped by here on a quiet Saturday. Great NYC local draught list paired with a wide variety of board games and pinball machines. Very chill ambiance in a surprisingly huge spot. This spot is woodside is a great spot to hang out with friends, have a couple of drinks and play games. They have a large selection of board games and pinball machines you can play on. The bar is fully stocked, has a large selection of different types of beers, IPA and ciders. Since I don't drink beer, I had the bartender make me a sweet drink. He made me something with mezcal and lime juice; it was heavenly. You are able to order food and have it delivered to the bar which is great. Arguably one of the best beer bars in NYC. They have twenty drafts - all being local, craft options. Some of the most intriguing offerings were from Transmitter, Finback, and Destination Unknown. Bar has lots to do. They have a huge selection of board games. There are several pinball machines in the back. Simply a great place you can hang out. I liked the set up of the bar too. First third is a traditional counter where folks chat up with the bartender. Second third,is great for groups and lounging around. Final third has the pinball machines. read more

This is one of my favorite bars for a great craft beer selection, board games, trivia nights, and pinball. They have 8 pinball machines in the back - with new ones occasionally added into the rotation - as of 12/24/21, the ones I played were Indiana Jones, Tron, Deadpool, and Guardians of the Galaxy. All games only take cash and usually have 3 credits for $2. They also have a ton of board games and card games to grab and play at the tables. Local craft beer selection is top notch (they have both drafts and bottles also on rotation) and they also can make cocktails if that's your preference. If you want food, you can either order delivery on your own to the bar or just pick up food around the area and eat it at the bar. This bar in Woodside just celebrated their one year anniversary earlier this month. Where the heck have I been? How come I did not know this awesome place exists? It was kinda crowded on Saturday night which is a good sign. Solid State is a great bar that serves beer and cocktails. They offer several local craft beer on taps, 20 of them! I had Jan Alpine White Lager, witbier from SingleCut and From Stardust To Thoughtform, IPA from Foreign Objects. They were both amazing. I'm not sure this place has happy hour though. Also this place doesn't serve food, but feel free to bring in or order any food to be delivered. There's a bunch of pinball machines and board games that I really don't care about. Bartenders are very attentive and friendly. I will definitely spread the word and bring more friends here. read more

I thought I had reviewed this place....came here for a friend's birthday and it was awesome! Great beer selection, friendly and fast service. The front bar is very narrow, so naturally that is where people tend to congregate, but the back really opens up. There are also pinball machines, if you are into those sinful gambling machines. I came here on a saturday night around 8:30 - 9pm. Not too late so it wasnt that crowded. They have a variety of beers on drafts which are all made in the new york state. The bartender was nice enough to let me taste a few beers as I couldn't decide. I finally chose one, but I forgot the name. For the second round I got a cocktail which was tasted like a moscow mule. Really yummy!! Walked to the back and saw a bunch of pinball machines along with a large seating area. Also saw some board games which brought back so many great childhood memories. Sigh!! I played battleship, guess who and jenga. Some new millenium games were in the stack such as exploding kittens and memes. I would definitely be back as it isnt a pretentious bar. Very lowkey and laid back. Not really hipsterish as other bars try to be. (Is hipsterish a word??) I'm definitely going to try other beers and cocktails as well. read more

Sunday afternoon, no one else inside this fairly new beer bar. Large wooden interior with tons of retro games to the back and standard bar seating up front. Tap list is extensive - 20 different draught lines ranging from $7-9. No food to speak of, but the bartender does allow you to bring food inside. Stayed pretty much dead the entire afternoon, so seems like more of a night-time bar. Despite not serving food, dogs are not allowed here (bummer). Good spot to play some games over beers. read more

This is my favorite bar in Woodside. They always have super fun events. My favorite is Wednesday night trivia. They also have a lot of other events they post on their Instagram throughout the year like pumpkin carving and Super Bowl parties. Their beer selection and pricing is second to none in the area. They also have a great selection of board games and pinball. If you haven't been to Solid State definitely make a trip over here. The staff is super sweet and it feels like you're at a friends house. You'd surely walk right by the dark, no signage place with not thinking twice and honestly maybe you should. The 16 dollar "Woodside mule" lacked alcohol and just overall effort. The bartender looked at me funny when i asked if i could have extra vodka to top it off but he was happy to add 7 dollars to my bill for it. Yes. 7 dollars for a splash of vodka. The 2 stars are is for overall space because it does have this cool, retro style and theres nothing like it in this neighborhood. Solid State is a great addition to the neighborhood. Having read about its opening several weeks ago, a friend and I had wanted to check it out since then. We finally did last night, and it was as good as it gets! To begin, they had 20 local beers on tap. I started out with a pint of the Port Jeff Boo Brew Pumpkin, followed by 10 oz. of the Community Beer Works Pun Intended Gose, and finally a pint of the Abandon Pilsner. The pumpkin brew was among the best I have had, medium in body with spiced pumpkin overtones. While the gose was not among the best I have had, it was nonetheless refreshing, albeit a bit watery. And the pilsner was a light way to go out. Initially seated at the bar, we later made our way to the back to play a couple of rounds of Ghostbusters, which was fun. We then grabbed a couple of seats in a slightly elevated seating area next the the pinball machines, where we finished out the night. Even if you're not a fan of pinball, they also have quite the selection of board games, for which the table areas are ideal. Furthermore, the bartenders are friendly, and the crowd is an eclectic mix. A solid five stars! read more

More than a month later, this place has really grown on me! I ended up having my birthday party at Solid State late in December, and it was a hit! We had enough room in the back area to seat about 10 of us without us being too cramped. We also had just enough space to play mulitple rounds of Jenga. Everyone really loved the bar overall, especially since all of my friends (except myself and my boyfriend) had never been there before. I also later found out that the bartender comped me one of my drinks for my birthday, which I thought was a really personal (and awesome!) touch. Reviewers are correct in saying that they do not serve food. However, they are more than okay with folks bringing their own food inside. We had cupcakes as well as chips and dip on our table, so we were content -- and I sort of prefer it that way, especially at a place like this. It allows them to focus on a killer beer list and keeping the pinball machines up and running! read more

Came here for the pinball, stayed for the beer. Solid State is a reasonably new bar in Woodside, though on the west west side of Woodside. From the outside, you'd be hard pressed to recognize it if you're looking for some large signage, but you'll find it. Going inside, the decor matches the outside in having wood as it's primary material. Bar on your left, tables in the back, and pinball machines further back. Sitting at the bar, you can see what beers are on tap by the wood planks pegged to the wall. The offerings here are great, but you'll be paying city prices for a pint $7. I think that's a tad high for Queens and for this area, but I guess that's the creep of gentrification penetrating Woodside. The staff was very friendly when I went and the patrons seemed diverse. Pinball is going to run you .75 which seems solid, but I was hoping it'd be a quarter or 50 cents as much. This is my crazy OCD working, but it'd be good to get two plays from a dollar, or four plays for a dollar. $0.75 is odd and that throws my OCD into a bit of overdrive; but that's really just my issue. This place is as good as it gets. with awesome taps, and free games... it would be easy to spend many hours catching up with friends. We enjoyed playing Simon as well as the exploding kittens game! While we were there many of the patrons were participating in Quizzo and a group of guys were noshing on two pizzas they had brought in from an outside establishment. We really enjoyed the local beers that they had on tap like the Alice Wit - the next time we are in NYC we would love to visit Solid State again. read more

This bar is our new 'go to' bar. It is our favorite spot to have a few drinks before Saturday dinner. The bar is spotless and has a homely vibe to it. The music is so 80's. The drinks are on point and they are not expensive. There are pinboard machines and 80' type games which adds to their unique culture. The bartender is also friendly and very knowledgeable about his beers. My husband loves Porters and Stouts so this is definitely a place to go. Parking is easy to find depending on the times you go. We usually go on Saturdays between 3-5pm. Give them a shot. You won't regret it! read more

This place is really fun! You walk in and immediately see a bunch of pinball machines in the back (which I think take quarters). There's also a shelf of board games (not just party games like Jenga or Monopoly, but also games like Pandemic and Dragoon), and an SNES emulator in the back. There are tables and benches in the back for people to play on. In the front is the actual bar, for people who could care less about the games. They have a huge selection of beers with bartenders who know a lot about each option. It was clear in talking to them that they put thought into what they put up on the board. They also let you try samples before ordering a full glass, which is great since admittedly I know next to nothing about beer. The owner walks around and mans the bar sometimes, and he was really nice. He even offered to play games with us if we came back, which was really nice of him. Besides that I think they do trivia on Wednesdays (we went on Halloween and coincidentally realized they had Halloween trivia going on as well as a costume contest), and probably have other events. Probably not the best bar to *find* a date, but definitely a fun one to bring a date to, or to unwind with some friends after a long week. read more

Well now that I've spent a few hundred (if not thousand) dollars here I can safely say this place is 5 stars. The atmosphere here is fantastic and welcoming, EVERYONE is welcome with open arms and treated as a welcome addition to the Solid State family. The 20 line New York State beer/cider tap lines are always changing and offering several styles of beer to choose from. Add into the mix dozens of board games and some of the best maintained pinball machines in all of the 5 Boroughs (which is no small feat). And as a side note they have the best music of any bar I've been to in YEARS. It runs from happy 60's pop to Latin Dance to 80's Metal to 90's Alternative to X Japan. No jukebox, but curated by the bar themselves... MAJOR props!!! I can't say how much I've come to appreciate this spot!!!!! read more

Came in on Friday at around 9:45pm. It was full but it's surprisingly spacious inside and we were able to squeeze into a small table near the pinball machines. I noticed that several tables were marked "reserved" for a birthday party, which is good to know for the future. They mainly have drafts, but among the drafts were a few ciders. It was also a nice variety, including a sour beer (sometimes draft places just have 10 IPAs...boring). They also do a full bar. A whiskey ginger will run you $6 and most of the drafts are in the neighborhood of $8. They have a wide variety of board games, and of course 8ish pinball machines. Seems like a fun place for a group, although it was a little loud - not sure how well a complicated board game could be played. Will be back the next time I'm in Queens! read more
