You know that giddy feeling when you hire a "pro" to do something for you and they meet and/or exceed your expectations? My experience with Solid Structures wasn't that. Every step added layers of disappointment. I've debated whether to leave this review or not ever since SS finished my 30x40 shop four months ago in April. But every time I go to work on finishing the interior I get so pissed. Just today I was using my laser level to lay out marks for an upcoming mezzanine build. In doing that I discovered the posts, the primary bones of the building are up to 3/4 inch from plumb at 12 feet. Some leaning one way, some another way. Some irregularities I could see as they built and called them out on it. Andy, the project lead actually showed up one day during the 5 week build because I called to complain about the building being racked. When the builders went to sheet the roof the OSB that was hanging long looked like a jagged saw blade. Obviously something wasn't square. Just so you know, Solid Structures doesn't use their own crews for every build. In my case it was a contract builder working for SS and he provided his own inexperienced crew who were left to themselves often. This contractor is still managed by SS supposedly but as I said before I only saw Andy once at my request. Be very aware this company has an extraordinary amount of overhead. Aside from the salesman and builder I spoke with 6 other people who did no actual building. Jim, the owner and engineer drew up the plans. The other 5 peeps did?? The crew that showed here didn't speak English except for the leader of the band. But he was often not here. When he was things went okay but by then a lot of bad stuff had already happened. Several times I pointed stuff out that they wound up redoing but not everything. They would have to start from scratch to fix the problems and the problems compounded with each misguided step they took. They've been " done" for four plus months now. Im glad they're no longer on my property. Standing outside the building you can clearly see the south eve line with a significant belly in it. They tried to cover the crappy build by adjusting the metal facia. Putting a ribbon on a pig. Its still a pig. Standing inside you can see in several places the purlins not parallel. The LVLs over two of the garage door are out of whack somehow. Like I said before the posts are not plumb. I reset one of the windows during construction instead of waiting for them because it was not level or plumb becausethe sill wasn'tlevel and they just plopped the window down on that sill and screwed it down. I plan to put 3/4 plywood on the walls and am not looking forward to how jacked up that's going to be at the corners. Communication with SS was terrible!! The salesman was good of course but after that it sucked. Materials just got delivered one day with no notice. That was about 12 weeks after signing papers. Good thing I happened to be home. That was like January 25th. Bobby, told me not to worry that weather wouldn't hurt the piles of lumber, trusses, laminated posts. B.S.!! I used my own materials to cover it all up. And there it sat for about 5 weeks in rain, snown etc. Then the contract crew shows up. They had l think four ladders, a four foot Harbor freight Pittsburgh level, a few impact drivers, string lines, a circ saw, and their favorite... the nail gun! Those kids may not know building or English but they know how to pull the trigger on a nail gun! In the worse case they used 12 nails at one location nailing to a truss end. Nails!!! I have no doubt the lumber is going to turn to splinters as it dries. I never saw a laser level on site. Only the 4' level. Its been mostly dry in this god forsaken Yakima Valley since the shack got built so I can't speak to how water tight the roof is. I did myself a disservice by watching post frame builders on YouTube. RR buildings, MR post frame. Channels like that. Guys who apparently really care about doing things right. Well, turns out I got something very different than that. My expectations were way off. So now I've got my 75K racked shack that looks best from a distance. Three sides actually look good from the outside. Looking at other SS reviews I see either 1 star or 5 stars. Reached out to Solid Structures back in early 2024 for quote on 40x60 shop in advance of starting our house build. After delays on our side and county weather road closures, we finally were able to build our shop. We did this remote (while living North of Austin TX) and working with Brooke on structure details were very easy. After a few tweaks on design and finishes to fit within our budget for this project (and Brooke being very patient with us) we finally started the build in mid-April 2025. We made our first trip out there in late May (first time to see the completed project in person) and we were very pleased. We had met our custom home builder out on property and they were impressed with quality and construction. Reason we went with Solid Structures was due to their patience with our inquiries, and the fact they had a patent on the type of brackets they used - these brackets didn't go unnoticed by our home builder - they were so impressed they planned on reaching out to Solid Structures to get more information for any of their clients looking to build a shop or external garage. We highly recommend their business and our son might reach out when he's ready to build his external garage. read more

My project was a 30x32 pole barn garage/shop Right from the start things were rocky. I was told the materials would arrive on site on a specific date...they didn't arrive until 8 days later. I did get text a message 3 days after the expected date telling me they would arrive the next day...they again didn't arrive until 4 days later...no explanation why. The first SS crew that arrived to work appeared to be prepared and ready to work; Andy the project lead seemed to be in control and assured me this would be an easy build without issues....but during the first few days there seemed to be a lack of urgency or a regular pattern of work. Despite that, progress was made, and the poles were finally set and trusses erected within what appeared to be reasonable time- about 10 days. A new SS crew arrived the day after the trusses went up and it was apparent there were issues, No Andy, workers sitting around, lots of loud profanity, and arguing among many of the workers about what was supposed to get done and how it was supposed to proceed. This apparently got relayed back to the SS because a few of the workers were removed from the project within a few days....but many issues remained. The framing inspector showed after a few days' work and it failed due to not having renewed plans that showed a big window on the west side. SS claimed it was my fault for not having the window when the plans were drawn up....which was incorrect as I provided the actual window well before the renewed plans were submitted....more delays awaiting the company's architect (Jim?) to draw up revision to the west wall...which took almost a week. Finally approved and onto installing the roof They installed the sheathing on the roof incorrectly and was just going to cover it with paper when I called it out and asked about it...the workers dismissed it saying it wouldn't be a problem. So I sent a picture of it to Andy who hadn't been on site for at least 1 week. Andy to his credit admitted it was wrong and said it would be corrected which the next day it was. They then installed paper, bubble insulation and metal roofing panels. Amazingly they installed the metal roofing with zero lip (no roof hanging over the side) at the end...it stopped right where the wall started. I inquired about this and asked how I was supposed to put gutters on this and was told some explanation about how the gutters slide under the roof line. I again called Andy who still had not returned to the project and asked him to look at this. He did and again admitted it had been installed correctly. The next day I was told it would be corrected by flipping the panels and sliding them down a few inches. I said I wasn't OK with that and wanted it done correctly with new panels....after some debate and awaiting a response for 3 days, they removed the old panels, paper and insulation and replaced it all....set back another week. For the next 5 days they worked without issue and then claimed they were done and were awaiting garage door people. There were missing trim pieces, eaves not completed, gable vents not installed and I asked about all of that. They claimed they were awaiting more trim and didn't know about gable vents...despite me showing them in the plans. There was no work done on the project for 8 days. When they returned, they finished the trim, eaves and vents. About that time the garage door folks came and installed doors but couldn't finish because the SS hadn't finished the last 8 inches of trim on the sides of the garage doors it would not seal. Despite multiple pictures and calls to the SS to complete this, nothing was done for 5 days. Finally SS sent a different crew and finished that part, and the garage doors were completed. We are now 11 weeks into the project that I was told would take 4. Final inspection....another fail...multiple issues including again the plans not reflecting what the inspector was seeing at the project site. When I asked what the problem was, SS blamed the inspector for not knowing his job and it wasn't their fault. Another 7 days of awaiting corrections to which SS crew finally came out and fixed most of the issues the inspector had. Another final inspection scheduled....another fail. The Firewall on the west side was installed improperly. As I try to get answers days later SS again claimed the inspector was wrong, claimning "we do this type of installation all time". I then get a call from SS stating they are not responsible for any "interior" work-the fire wall corrections include putting drywall on the inside of the frame and they tell me it's not hier responsibility. I remind the contract calls for a firewall to be built per code and it was not, and I won't make final payment until it is complete and we pass read more

My review is very similar to Melanie's. Although the concrete work was great and that the building was square, as it should be, that is where my happiness went in another direction and those were the only things that I was impressed with. In the end I had eight roof leaks inside the building and no call backs from the owner. I even have a photo where you can see light coming through a hole in the roof from the inside of the building! I ended up repairing many problem issues myself. I was not happy with solid structures. read more

**UPDATE** After being told the concrete would be fixed (it was poured wrong and we now have massive water stains on concrete just a few months old), the lean-to would be boxed in appropriately and the little things on the inside that are not to code would be fixed - nothing. 5 months later and still nothing. Apparently the turn over at the company is so massive that nobody - including the owner - knows what's going on. We were supposed to have somebody here this morning to finish, but we had to call over an hour after they were supposed to be here to be told they aren't coming. It's been FIVE MONTHS and our shop still isn't finished. This company is a joke. We paid over $40k for a shop that will probably never be finished correctly. Go ANYWHERE else! One word to describe the experience we had with solid structures: nightmare. What we were told would be a 10-14 day project lasted almost 2 months. Their "crew" was never on time. They left their trash everywhere (cigarette butts, coffee cups, hand warmers), they urinated all over my property. The project manager was never around to make sure things were going smoothly. There is absolutely no communication within the company. Missed about 10 days of work because they said they'd be here for something or another but never showed up. They think that your property is their property and will tell subcontractors that they can just walk in whenever they want, no warning, not even a knock on the door. I cant tell you how many times I had to go out and ask who somebody was and what they were doing in my backyard. They will sound accommodating, but as soon as you give them that first check, everything changes. And as soon as you give them the last check, they don't care how shoddy the work was - radio silence.
