Absolutely horrible customer service. My husband bought a tennis bag for my birthday and we tried to exchange it for a smaller bag because it was too big and the store would only give us 50% of the purchase price towards store credit. Brand new never used tag still on and they said restocking fee is 50%??? Are you kidding me? A small town tennis store can't extend us the courtesy of exchanging to other products in their store for the dollar amount? There's a restocking fee 50% less the original purchase price? We weren't even asking for a refund. The guy at the store semi long curly hair mostly balding was so incredibly rude, dismissive and nasty. Will never go back to that store. Too bad because our family lives in Huntington and are avid tennis players. read more

Had a similarly great experience with one of Julian's employees Christian. He was cordial, personable, and made sure I was happy with everything I was buying. I traded in an old racquet and he did the stringing as well as the customized grip. I would buy everything from shoes to racquets to balls from these guys. As for demos, you won't get this kind of customer service from online vendors such as Tennis Express or Tennis Warehouse. read more

Poor customer service. Purchased a pair of K-Swiss tennis sneakers one week ago. On first use, the tongue ripped out of one of the sneakers. Returned to store to exchange with the original receipt of purchase and sneakers with clear limited use. Store will not accept the return due to a K-Swiss policy. Respectfully, with K-Swiss policy acknowledged, what small business does not stand behind merchandise it sold within the last week? This business is only interested in a sale. I strongly suggest if you care about the quality of what you are purchasing you go elsewhere where the owner and it's salesmen stand behind their business model instead of making customers ace it alone. UPDATE: After contacting K-Swiss directly (who couldn't have been nicer to deal with) they shared their written policy with us which states: "Any K-Swiss merchandise purchased from an authorized retailer must be returned to the store from which it was originally purchased and is subject to the return policy of the originating retailer." Solow Sports policy is that the merchandise refund for defective products is between the purchaser and the manufacturer. So we're stuck! Tennis players please be aware of this customer backward policy prior to making any purchases. read more

Background: I'm a teaching pro. I came here when i broke a string and absolutely needed a racket for my morning lessons next day. I thought maybe they would have it; not only did they have it, but it was one of the best experiences I had at any retail location. Solow sports has a great interior. You'll find plenty of racket, clothes, and shoe options. They have a large lot in the back where you can park the car for free. Julian, the store owner, is one of the nicest, most accommodating guys I've ever met. A nice surprise was the ping pong table in the back where I could hit with a friend. Best Tennis Racquet Stringing in New York A few years ago, we started using Solow Sports to restring our racquets. The difference between Solow and others that had strung our racquets was apparent as soon as we started hitting balls. I now understand that stringing requires a good machine and a knowledgeable operator. There is an "art" to good stringing that many who string just do not know. As a plus Julian, Nick and the others at any of the three Solow locations are friendly, helpful and just plain old nice people. At times I have dropped off my racquet after hours, texted their "string" line and picked up the racquet completely strung and re-gripped the next day. Thank you guys. read more

After playing casually for years with old racquets, I decided it was time for my husband and I to get new racquets. I was considering a store in Commack that a friend had recommended, because of their demo program.But I hesitated, because of the distance to Commack from where we normally play. Then I realized that we had a sports shop right in Huntington Village, and decided to give them a try. It turns out that they too had a demo program. I told Julian about our skill levels, and set off with the first pair of racquets. He encouraged me to come back with comments. A few days later, I returned, and talked about trying a different pair the next time. After the second trial, Julian suggested another pair of racquets. We finally had a favorite. We went back to select our stringing, and place the order. A week later we picked up two racquets, and played that evening. We couldn't be happier- Julian was patient with each demo, and with our feedback, steered us in the right direction. What a great find! read more

just now Customer Service is king here. After a 30 year hiatus I am getting back into tennis. I researched tennis shops and was steered here by a number of sources. I had high expectations and they were far exceeded. Knowledgeable staff, large selection, and availability of demo rackets and pros to test with. Within in a few days I was back out on the courts with a rackets that was perfect for me. Prices are very compete especially and a real bargain considering the extra service you get. BTW, I primarily used the Huntington location, the staff at both the Huntington and Glen Cove locations were equally friendly and helpful. read more

I made a purchase in store and the price on the website was different from the price I was charged in the store for the same exact item. I originally paid a total of $92.28 so not an inexpensive purchase. I realized this once I got home. On my first call I was told that the website has different pricing from the store because of considerations made for shipping costs, etc. There was a lot of back and forth and honestly I was a bit upset regarding the direction that the conversation took, what was stated and how. It currently doesn't state that anywhere on the website, so that should be featured somewhere so that customers are aware of that. Most large retail operations that have a disclaimer for web versus in store pricing if that is the case on their site. I was offered a credit for the difference in price between a competitor e-commerce retailer and the in store price which I originally paid, but it it took two phone calls, which were pretty aggravating, and became quite petty in nature, and could have gone much better. I do appreciate the offer that was made, on the basis of principle, but resent the route of how we achieved the outcome. Apparently I "misunderstood" the credit offer the first time, and was called back to "clarify" things by the store and it ended up being put to task for every single word that was mentioned or said by me in a manner which I personally found condescending and chastising. Not very customer centric to say the least. For future reference, its not a good idea or very customer friendly to antagonize an already annoyed and irate customer. I live local to the area, and although I'm an e-commerce shopper because I'm so busy and its convenient, if I have the opportunity to buy local I do. Would I do business with Solow Sports again, I would have to think about it very carefully. Prior to this I have purchased apparel there and have had rackets strung there. Until now, we have never had a negative experience. This was not the best retail experience I have had. I am a fair person, so I will give credit where it is due, and say that they do honor their policies even though the road getting there was quite rocky and not pleasant. read more

This is a first class tennis shop with the latest racquets,strings, clothing, and equipment. What sets this shop apart from most others is the owner. Julian is one of the nicest, most knowledgeable, and customer-friendly people you'll ever meet. My personal expertise and knowledge of the game and the equipment after 45 years of playing, coaching, and teaching tennis is pretty good. There are few people I meet nowadays I actually learn tennis things from...Julian is one of them. No matter if the customer is spending $2 or $200 Julian treats them the same.
