The one thing I'd recommend in solvang if you come all the way here. Although not Dutch, this store specializes in many flavors of olive oil and balsamic vinegar . They very easily offer sample cups, hand wipes, and water and the sales people are very chill/ let you walk around and explore. The store is clean and spacious with lots of variety. They also have nonsweet pickled garlic and olives. For the vinegar, a lot of fruit flavor and i was so surprised that everything had distinct flavors- like i tasted the fig in the fight one and espresso in the other one. The oils were also fragrant and very smooth/not astrigent at all. A sample bottle costs around $19 with full coming to around $35-40. Amazing selection of oils and vinegars- but for me there is only one choice, the maple balsamic vinegar. It's out of this world. It's going to be amazing on ice cream - but I'm thinking it will make a great glaze for carrots or brussel sprouts and also for meats. And salads will also benefit from it's tangy sweetness. Great find in Solvang! There are over 70 varieties of balsamic vinegar (white and dark) and olive oil for FREE tasting. Of course, after a few tastes, it can get confusing especially with oil. Here are some tips: 1. Before even getting started ask the staff for their own suggestions so you can optimize your visit. 2. The oils are all together on the right and left are the balsamic vinegar. 3. For me for spending this much $ on oil and vinegar, ask yourself if you will use for cooking or as dressing. My opinion, for spending this much, has to be the center/star of the dish to appreciate the taste of either the oil or vinegar. Before tasting, ask yourself what your favorites are anyway so we ended up with the Gravenstein Apple, Lavender and Denissimo balsamic vinegar plus the Harissa olive oil (hard to find in local groceries). 4. I ended up purchasing the lifetime $30 membership to get the discount. it is worth it if you are buying over $100 worth. I calculated and our total (BEFORE deciding to buy the membership) was going to be $135 but with membership I would get 20 percent discount so after doing the math, I paid $133 for the same items and now I have the lifetime membership to use for future purchases either in person or online. And yes, it is hours from me but perfect gifts for friends who have everything and are picky and if ever passing by Solvang - always a good stop to make. read more

One of the best things to do when in Solvang! Especially if you're an olive oil or vinaigrette fan! My aunt got pomegranate vinaigrette and a bottle of chili infused olives for my uncle. My brother in law bought two small tester size bottles of oil and vinaigrette, perfect for anyone who wants to try a variety of flavors! The tester size bottles can be found near the cash register. I bought truffle sea salt, I was going to buy it off a trusted seller on Etsy anyway, so this was wayyy more convenient! (Hurray for instant gratification!) I also bought a bottle of blood orange olive oil which taste absolutely divine on sour dough! A bottle of peach vinaigrette which is heaven when used as a salad dressing over arugula, cherry tomatoes and walnut! I love that they sell pouring nozzles and all the bottles come with cork twist tops! Lauren is very helpful, informative and charming. Carlee helped us check out and she's super sweet and bashful! The only improvement of impact I can imagine is if there was tiny bite size bread or crackers to taste the olive oil and vinaigrette! It's a small town maybe they can make a deal with a local bakery, it would add to the small town feel! I can imagine that feeling like a liability though so maybe just start with high quality non salted crackers cut into small bite size pieces! I saw a number of people walk in, pour oil into taster cups, and take it back to the throat like it's a shot! (Idk why anyone would do that), but even the people taking a sip made weird faces and walked out!
