We come here because they have Ojai Olive Oil for their dipping oil/vinegar combo. Each jar is $24, which is pretty pricey, but this is the only place where I've found the combination of the oil/vinegar is pretty good. I like that they already have herbs in the bottle. Makes it easy as it's an all in one. The staff here have been very nice and accommodating with our requests to try the different items they have. They also have wine tasting for about $25 for 4-5 pours I believe. But we don't come here for the wine though. read more

On a summer road trip down the coast ( COVID getaway) we stopped in Solvang and tasted wine here. We really enjoyed the wine and the vibe. Jeff, the owner, was generous and friendly, offering us a second taste of our favorite. The patio was perfect for physical distancing, and our dog, Tyson, was comfortable lounging near our table. I came back here cause I've been here before and they had the good stuff and service was good but unfortunately this time around, my boyfriend and I weren't even greeted upon entry. There were ONLY 2 people sitting at the bar getting served wine. I don't understand why the person behind the bar didn't bother to welcome us. Lovely wine tasting room with some fabulous wines! I especially liked the Chardonnay, Pinot Noir and Cabernet Sauvignon. If I didn't already have a couple of cases in my storage area at home, I would have bought more! Jeff, the owner, made us feel right at home. We came in around 1:00 and we were able to secure the comfortable wine barrel chairs with footstools to enjoy our wine. If we didn't have to leave, we would have stayed for another couple of hours! They also do a olive pairing with the wine, but apparently you have to request it, since it was not initially offered to us. We only knew about it because a friend of ours is a wine member. We strolled in on a Saturday afternoon and were immediately greeted by a gentleman who was very helpful. He had us sample olive oils, balsamic vinegars and combos that were great. I haven't been to the new location yet, but I hear they have moved around the corners, so I can't speak for the new location. My family and I went to this dump late in the afternoon to try the wines available. The owner of this establishment turned out to be such an A-Hole! - He continuously made bad jokes about wanting to fight with me in front of my sons and daughter-in-law and wife. he made several remarks about wanting to fight me and made direct comments to me in front of my sons, very disrespectful. I was having a weekend getaway with my family and this guy was a total A-Hole! I would not recommend going to this dump unless you are willing to be subjected to this A-Hole's bad taste comments, especially if he feels he likes one of your family members. There is no "-" on this rating or else I would give it to this e3stablishment. I came real close to reporting him to the local police & tourist chamber of commerce for the harassment I received. This business owner gives a real bad reputation to the town of Solvang, The customer service was awful. If you are planning to go here, be ready to be subjected to this A-Hole's disrespectful comments, especially if he finds one of your family members attractive. read more

In what I perceived to be a boring little touristy town on our way back to LA from San Luis Obispo, my girlfriend and I stumbled upon a delightful gem. The Olive House introduced us to Jeff, who guided us through a tour of 5 (or 6?) tasty wines from Twenty Mile Vineyard and just really good company for a couple of East Coast Tourists. We were drawn into this store like moths to a flame... the large sign out front boldly declared that WINE TASTING was available, and that was all it took to lure us in. Too bad it was the most disappointing part of our weekend. When we entered, there was one lone female employee on the telephone. She didn't really acknowledge us at all, just continued her call with her head down. After browsing the assortment of overpriced food items and nick knacks, we sidled up to the bar in hopes the employee would get the hint that we were here to taste wine. We took seats on the stools and waited. Eventually, she realized that we weren't just resting our feet and approached us. I explained that we'd like to purchase 2 wine + olive pairing tastings... a moment later we had glasses in front of us and a pour plus an olive to try. I do a fair amount of wine tasting, and one critical component of the tasting experience is the interaction and vibe of the person pouring the wine. They will typically tell you a little about the wine as you taste and make light conversation with customers. Well, forget about any of that. The employee's demeanor was very mechanical and she was not friendly AT ALL. She had a very cold vibe towards us and displayed no expression whatsoever. She either doesn't like her job, or is not cut out to interact with the public. Other than telling us the varietal of the wine and olive, she was silent and seemed annoyed. I tried to make light conversation with the employee to try and draw out an iota of personality (to alleviate the awkwardness) but to no avail. The whole experience fairly uncomfortable and I wouldn't recommend it... go ahead and skip this place, there are a great many other places to taste wine in the immediate vicinity (like Sante Wine Bar... they are very friendly there). read more

Defective balsamic vinegars! Jeff the owner promises to replace then changes his mind! I have been ordering 100s of $$s worth of balsalmic vinegars from them for years, but recently we received a defective order. Several bottles had watered down consistency and inferior taste. Promises to replace order then breaks his word, poor customer service! I emailed and called Jeff Feeley and he told me verbally he would replace the whole order...when I received nothing , called him again...he said the replacement order would be shipped out next day...again nothing...I called him a 3rd time a few weeks later and again he committed to ship a replacement order next day...again nothing. He then emailed me stating he refused to replace, breaking his word and promise! When I asked for a few free bottles on our next order he refused , doesn't stand behind his products and will never order again!! This is the way he treats one of his biggest and long standing customers? Overall, great experience! I had been to this location before, but it was Presidio Wines. It was good then and informative as well, but now they added this element of "fun". Jeff, the owner, has a great personality and a very funny dude as long as you are not easily offended. And if you are lucky enough to catch Dave hanging out, you're in for a treat. Had great conversations with these two and they gave wonderful recommendations on the exciting things to do in town as well. The pours were heavy, which is good, but they didn't provide a bucket to dump out excess wine. When she poured each wine it was like she was deliberately trying to give us as little information about the wine as possible. We felt rushed and uninformed. Came here on a Thursday around 3pm and there was no one else there. We were under the impression that they were offering wine tastings that would also be paired with olives based on other Yelp reviews. Sadly this was not so. The lady behind the counter must have had a bad day (or even year) bcuz she didnt seem to want to be there. There were no tasting notes nor any offer of explanation regarding what type of tastings they offered. We were done sharing a tasting when we happened to notice that they had a lot of dessert wines on display. I asked her if they offered tastings for sweet wines and she said yes. We decided to share another tasting for the sweet wines, but the entire time we were there it felt as if the lady was just kind of wanting to kick us out so she could go somewhere else. There was no outright rudeness, but the service & atmosphere fell way short of our expectations. The wines were ok, but was overshadowed by the unwelcoming attitude of the lady behind the counter. It was like pulling teeth trying to get her to tell us about the wines. There are many other tasting rooms in the area with good wine AND people who enjoy what they are doing which leads to a far more enjoyable wine tasting experience. Randomly wandered in and got a tasting before the place closed. For $10 we had six wines paired with olives. The wine was good on its own, but the combination with the olives were amazing. Almonds stuffed with almonds, feta cheese, blue cheese and sun dried tomatoes are the ones I remember. I don't know how long it must of taken to make the perfect combination of olive and wine, but they nailed it. The man serving did make a lot of jokes and I suppose if you're they type with a chip on your shoulder you could get your feelings hurt. We hung out there a bit. He was nice, just made a lot of jokes that were mostly funny. Besides that he buys the grapes from local vineyards and makes small batches of wine himself. His wine more than makes up for his dry sense of humor. If in Solvang I doubt you'll fine a better tasting for ten bucks. read more

This tasting room didn't make my "list" that I researched before our trip, but my boyfriend stopped in here on a whim. The atmosphere is just okay, nothing special. There was flies flying around the whole time. No one else came in while we were there. At one point we commented on how bad the wine was and the lady behind the counter said "Oh yeah I think that one might be old" and she opened another bottle and poured in a tiny amount to retry. It wasn't much better. I'm glad I told him to skip purchasing a tasting for me, because the wines were not good. I took a sip of nearly all of the wines and I thought they were all rather gross. I'm a member at a few wineries in Temecula so this was a new experience for me tasting in Solvang. Walked in and wasn't greeted. Place was small and seems family owned. Looked around at the store before wandering into the tasting room. We decided to do our tastings from a bar table that was in the center of the room. The pourer came out and greeted us. My friends and I stopped here on our way out of this lovely town. The owners sat down with us, and had a CONVERSATION with us. Wow, an actual conversation. The olives were delicious, the olive to die for, and of course, you have to get a bottle of the wine before leaving. This is a great stop if you are looking for things to do in this gorgeous quaint little town. Bonus, there are fabulous wine sign/handcrafted items that you can purchase for your home/kitchen. We had a terrific time tasting oils, vinegars, learning to cure the olives from our tree, and getting some local knowledge from the very kind clerk/manager. The olive oils are truly delicious, as are the unique vinegars. We bought the tuscan garlic and herb oil blend, the garlic and mushroom olive oil, and a grapefruit balsamic vinegar. Can't wait to make some dressings back home, and taste them with a fresh organic baguette. Wish there had been crackers or bread to taste, but it was still fun, and I felt the 16.95 price per bottle was also fair. I also tried the white wines, and the pinot noir. Wasn't a huge fan of the wines, but my daughter and I really liked the service, and the lovely woman gave my daughter two free Solvang postcards so she could send to friends. Nice touch. read more

Heavy hand I must say, last place we visited in Solvang, we left very wasted. Weird option as tasting Stella Rosa. . . It was the Stella Rosa Black but still weird. Kind of a cheap wine to have on Flight. . . but over the place was cute and had samplings of olive oil which was very different but I had already spent money at the oilive farm in Los Olivos. The staf was helpful and informative but I wasn't wow'ed and the prices were good but I was tapped out at this point so I LEFT WITH NOTHING. I would definately come back for a flight here. read more

Love this place a lot since it is the only place I can find my favorite wine brand (Twenty Mile), honestly I tried looking for it everywhere else and nothing. The owner is great and has a unique sense of humor which is not for the faint hearted nor if you get offended easily. I highly recommend this place to anyone who wants a great customer service. I have never seen the girl a lot of people say here on Yelp so I cannot mention her style and I cannot say anything about the vinegars and oils since I specifically always go for the wine (minimum 3 bottles every visit). The Olive House is a must stop if walking around the Solvang streets. It has amazingly cute and unique gift items for the gourmet chef in all of us. Great selection of oils and oh yeah....WINE!!
