I love olive oil stores, especially the ones in California have wonderful products. Viva Oil on State Street in the heart of Santa Barbara didn't disappoint! The store has a nice decor, airy, it's welcoming, has a wide variety of olive oils and balsamic vinegars with nice flavors (some fruit based - fig anyone?), nice staff and reasonable prices. My first review for 2021 goes to Viva Oliva. I purchased some local condiments here for NYE, and I'm happy to say they were a hit! If you like a spicy jelly, then you must pick up their Ojai habanero jelly. This pairs well with any cheese! It has a little kick to it but not so much where it burns your tongue. My other purchase was the ever so popular Truff hot sauce. They have 2 choices of the black truffle; hot & hotter ($17), and white truffle, but the white truff is pretty expensive at $34! I purchased the regular hot Truff with the black label. The reviews on this are mixed, but in my opinion this is a unique hot sauce that has a very subtle hint of truffle so it's not overpowering. There is a slight sweetness due to the agave, and the heat level is very mild. I used this for a shrimp batter, put it on potato chips and mixed it with ranch dip. The possibilities are endless on how to use this. There are so many good options here to support local businesses. Olive oil, chocolate, balsamic vinaigrette's, olives, handcrafted wooden utensils, jellies, pistachios, and much much more. I also, bought some cute wooden serving spoons. Horrible customer service. A young lady at the front counter with medium length dark colored hair, shorter girl, double nose piercings and tattoos was VERY RUDE and NOT HELPFUL AT ALL! Came in for wine and ingredients for a charcuterie and she was dismissive, inattentive, non-welcoming and mocking. I WILL NOT HE RETURNING. I had the fun opportunity to get a sample of oils and vinegars from Viva Oliva and they have been such a treat! Really great flavors that have been a wonderful addition to cooking at home, as well as salad dressings! These make for great gifts and their State Street store is in a great location. No parking out front, but there is street parking and lots available nearby. Definitely stop in if you're in the area! You can get oils mailed or pick up in person. read more

Years ago I bought a bottle of 18 year Viva Oliva 18 year old Balsamic Vinegar. In my life o hav never had anything so beautiful!!! I used it sparingly because I wasn't sure if the company was still around. Upon the last drop I searched the web and found them. They never left! I promptly ordered the largest bottle of their Traditional (which is 18 year) and then sesame oil, olive oil and a bottle of #101 Noble bourbon barrel matured maple syrup. Literally within a few days I received my order. Their products are amazing and their customer service goes above and beyond. (I had a few questions and they answered them immediately via email). Randomly popped in here and bought some olive oil and balsamic, both are delicious, I drizzled it over local tomatoes and fresh basil. This is the kind of stuff that's good to dip some fresh bread in or over a salad. It's the finishing touch for sure. I am not sure you could go wrong with any of the picks. "Olive" me had a hard time leaving Viva Oliva! What a decadent array of local delicacies to be sure! My head was spinning from the moment I entered. The endless selection of incredible infused olive oils and vinegars, whiskey barrel-aged maple syrup, Moroccan and French spice mixes, olives and chutneys and other handcrafted gifts were so incredible, I briefly considered asking the owner, who was so kind, accommodating and helpful, if I could set up camp as a second home in the middle of the store. I could have guzzled the white truffle olive oil straight from the bottle, but Momma raised me to be polite and not act up in front of company. I left with a veritable smorgasbord of delectable goodies, including Japanese sesame oil, walnut oil, almond oil and truffle olive oil, stuffed olives and local chocolate. Viva Oliva indeed! We stumbled upon Viva Olivia walking down State Street a few weeks back and was very pleased with how knowledgeable & friendly the staff was. I recently placed another order for my son's teacher as a gift and it arrived next day! We live in San Diego, I love that they offer free shipping over $75. The Picual Extra Virgin Olive Oil has a great mild flavor. Fresh baked bread dipped in that plus the Black Mission Fig or the Blackberry Ginger Balsalmic is amazing! We were in Montecito for a weekend trip and were staying next door at the Montecito Inn. On the way to meet some friends for Breakfast, I walked by this store. It piqued my interest, so I dropped in. The lady working that day was very friendly and greeted me as soon as I walked in. There is a large selection of Balsamic Vinegar & Olive Oil. I was actually looking for a Balsamic Reduction, which is very thick and sweet. I asked her if she had any and she said "no", but that they had an alternative option that might work for me. She poured a sample for me to taste and I took a little sip....I didn't dip Bread into it because I wanted to taste it without any else....well, the verdict was...amazing! We bought a groupon for this place about a year ago, when they were in downtown SB and we were making a trip there, so I looked around for groupons that looked good, as I do. We got there and they were closed for the move out to the 'burbs, which was kind of irritating that they didn't give us advance warning, but I'm happy to report, having made another trip back out that way last weekend, that they were 100% willing to honor our groupon even though it expired several months ago, or this would have been a less good review. That said: this is quite possibly the best olive oil and vinegar I've tasted. I've so far gone similar fancy olive oil and vinegar tastings in Santa Cruz, Temecula, Newport Beach and Washington DC, and while they've all been excellent, this place is the winner for most of the flavors we tried that they have competition in - the only one I thought was kind of lackluster was the lemon (it was still great, it was just a bit too subtle). Of particular note: * Their peach vinegar tasted like a dessert - literally, you could just put it in a little dessert wine glass, and sip it, nothing else required. * They make a "butter" flavored olive oil, that literally does taste very much like that super-unhealthy liquid butter like you get at a movie theater, but is apparently flavored from some plant, and is completely dairy-free and as healthy as olive oil. That is way cool. * They make a chili-flavored olive oil from some African pepper - it has the heat and the smokiness of your standard chipotle olive oil, but so much more flavor. It is super amazingly good (if you like spicy olive oil, which I do). They are also happy to mix sampler-size bottles of any of the olive oils/vinegars they sell, which is way more useful and a very good idea for them (some of the places we've been, already prepackaged their sampler sets and only sell specific sets). 6 sampler bottles of your choice for $32 (without a Groupon) is pricey, but totally not *unreasonably* pricey given the quality. I am so looking forward to enjoying the items we purchased, and have to say, the Groupon actually really did feel like we got a deal (sometimes with places like this, it feels like they overprice everything and then run Groupons to give people the "real" price but make it *seem* like they're giving you a deal. This felt like their regular price was actually the regular price, and like we actually did get a deal. :)) read more

I first started going here when it was in it's old location in Paseo Nuevo and the first item I bought was a cute 6 bottle sample set of my favorite oils and vinegars as a gift for my mom. Long story short, my whole family loves this place and everyone has a different favorite flavor!
