The techs were both very nice, I did the install myself and it went great, I accidently bumped a fitting and had a small leak so I needed them to come out to recover the freon, pressurize the system and recharge it...the best they could do was almost $1,500...actually the first estimate was over $2,200, then the 2nd estimate was abou $1,700, then the final estimate was for the about $1,500...for less than 2lbs of freon...that is absolutely unacceptable, I'll just buy another one and reinstall it for literally less than 1/4 of the price of that highway robbery. I understand the "cost of doing business" but that is absolutely absurd. This should cost no more than maybe 500-600 at the absolute most. They could've left with 500-600 and instead they left with 122 because this business is extremely overpriced. But again the techs were very nice and friendly. --Techs would get 5 stars..you can tell they get this response quite abit. --The pricing is the 1 star, it's far past the point of price gouging and I made sure I was right before posting this by having a couple other estimates (those were free estimates by the way, the fact this was paid should've been a red flag. that part is my fault. read more

They charged me $95.00 just to come out and look at my toilet's filler valve. Once here, they wanted me to pay them $400.00 for a 10-minute job. I refused. I bought a valve for $35.00 on the Internet and installed it myself in 15 minutes. It was a matter of turning the water off under the toilet, unscrewing the old valve, and screwing in the new one. Shop around before you settle for the outrageous prices this company charges. read more

For many years SolvIt has been great for us--every emergency handled and every appointment kept through our service contract. New boilers, new A/C. They did everything. Pricy but dependable. I knew the techs by name. Since their unholy alliance with some entity called Harp, there's nothing left--two canceled A/C inspections and a phone rep telling me that the next available appointment would be in early August. When I informed her that the cooling season would be just about over at that point, the needle didn't move. I was told they're short-staffed, but if so, why continue to make appointments? I've begun looking elsewhere. I doubt if I'm alone. read more

This company is completely unorganized. I set up an energy audit at a home show and gave them all my info. A few days later they called to tell me the time they initially said was available was not available and rescheduled me to later in the day. Annoying, but not a deal breaker. I rescheduled my work schedule and made it work. Then the day before the appt they called and said the original appt was in fact available and the afternoon was not. Huh?! Sooooo I rescheduled my work schedule again to accommodate. So today was the day and they were not here. So I called and got a RUDE woman who said they left me a voicemail telling me they were coming in the afternoon instead. It's important to note this voicemail never happened. She then hung up on me. So after 18 years as a customer of Solvit and paying for premier service my winterization appointment was cancelled (from HARP who no one told their customers were now supporting SolvIT) due to other emergencies (i.e. customers who are paying for emergency rates) and was rescheduled to march 14th....so my WINTER service was moved to the week before SPRING. I called many times and was never able to talk to anyone who could help (three times was told management would be aware and yet no one called me back). So after 18 years and tens of thousands of dollars I am cancelling with you for what could have been a 20 minute checkup. I will go somewhere that values customers and loyalties and not short term money. I called someone else and have an appointment for Tuesday. read more

I could make this review short by just saying; 'Use SolvIT at your own risk'. My husband passed away in November 2021. I wanted to prepare the furnace for the winter and couldn't get an appointment with my home heating oil company until February, my son recommended SolvIT. I got an appointment right away. The man came and was here a short time, then called me to show me a part that he said was causing an oil leak. He brought me to the furnace to show me the oil leaking. I didn't see any. He assured me it was not a good situation and could not winterize the furnace without replacing that and having a signed contract. I paid the $250 for a service contract, the 'repair' was done. Fast-forward one year and I called SolvIT to clean my furnace before winter because my contract was still in effect and the cleaning was included in my contract for this year. The man came and went into the furnace room. He came to me and said there was a problem with the furnace. (cast-iron burner). He showed me some dark images that he took on his cell phone of the inside of the boiler, using some type of scope, and told me that there were some 'teeth' that were worn down, and he couldn't service the furnace in this condition. He said that the burner really needed to be replaced. I asked him how much would it cost for a new furnace. He said 'between $5000 and $15,000'. I was floored and told him that I couldn't afford a new furnace, and asked him just to clean it and service it for the winter. He told me he could not do this because it would present a liability for the SolvIT company. I thanked him and told him never-mind. I signed with a new fuel oil company about a month later, and they cleaned the furnace and never warned me that it needed to be replaced. So, it's working fine. I do not trust this company, and I do not want anyone from this company 'reaching out' to me in any way. My review is meant to be a warning for anyone in the state of Connecticut, or any other state that SolvIT services, to call someone else, not SolvIT. If this company can so easily take advantage of a woman who just lost her husband, lives alone, and has limited resources, then they could easily take advantage of anyone. read more

I used them for basic maintenance on my AC system. The technician was good helpful and did the job quickly and efficiently. However when the bill came I was told and they advertise. 10% military discount and only gave a 5% one. After multiple phone calls and talking to at least 4 people and a request made to their financial department I have still yet to receive any response from them. I would never use them again and will likely make a complaint to the FTC for false advertising as the claim one discount and then give a different one. read more

I hired Solvit about 6 years ago to install a water heater and signed on for yearly maintenance for Heating and AC maintenance. I believe I've been charged for work that wasn't required and overcharged for the services they have performed. The last straw for me occurred when the service technicial pulled my existing diode out of my water heater and said it needed to be replaced. First there was some corrosion on the diode, basically what the part is made to do. I was willing to do it, but he quoted me a $440 charge to replace it. A diode is a $40 to $60 part and he already had my current one unscrewed and halfway pulled from the tank. There has been several other services in the past, with high $$ amounts, that I'm now regretting having them done. Second, I've had some outragous recommendations from past technicians. The yearly charge is not that expensive, but I think this is by design, so they can get their technicians into your home and try to scam you for anything they can. All I can say all their technicians are driving around these expensive ultility vans with expensive ladder racks, which I believe the company, not the technicians, are asking them to find a way to charge the customer more. Four years ago, one technician wanted me to replace the oil tank. Another a year later, said the furnace is on it's way out. The next techician said, the unit was too big for my home. This is after 10 years of service. Don't trust anyone from them to service my HVAC and ironically I'm still paying the yearly/monthly fee. There monthly fee was another item, they messed charging me for like 5 months, so instead of working out the missed charges, I got charged for 6 months of fees in one month. I understand I rode free for some time, but it was their misstake and didn't even offer to take double the fee for the next 5 or so. read more

I do not know if the cause of multiple cracked tanks is poor products being used or Solvits poor installation work. In either case, Solvits preferred customer warranty is meaningless. read more

The mixer in our shower stall was not working. We requested an estimate to either fix or replace the mixer. The technician told us that it would cost $1920. the job that he could do immediately. The $20. would be reimbursed if he did the job. We declined because we already had an estimate of $800. from another plumber. We got an estimate from a third plumber who has excellent reviews and he repaired the mixer and charged us $250. It works like new. Not sure how you stay in business when your quotes are so high and you do not discuss possible quotes over the phone. read more

Maybe there's a worse plumbing service, but I've never seen it. I just bought a house to find a broken toilet. They came out and said it needed replacing.$962. But he didn't remove the carpet around the toilet that we told him we were laying tile (who wants carpet in a bathroom?) He stated that removing the carpet was too hard for him, but it would be fine. "Fine" meant it rocked like hell. All the carpet but the toilet had been removed. I called to get the toilet removed and put down on the floor. The plumber who had been really nice became an angry man saying it was our job, not his. If I could remove a toilet I'd had done it. He called his manager & put me on the phone. He wanted $200 mo0re. I used SolvIt to fix a heating issue I had last winter. First the good. The tech was very friendly and did diagnose the issue right away. The diagnostic fee was very competitive at $69 (diagnostic fees usually run around $90 in this area). However, once the diagnosis was made, the cost to fix the issue was VERY HIGH. Given the estimate of the fix, I decided to get a couple different quotes. SolvIt's quote was double the other two companies I called. It's a shame because everything else about the company was good. However, I will probably never call them to address any other issues in my home because their prices were so far out of their competitors range. read more

Furnace failed on a Saturday afternoon during a Pandemic, NOT GOOD!! Technician came from Bridgeport to East Windsor on Sat. Night. He was VERY nice, prompt, and EXTREMELY knowledgeable; he gets 5 stars! The one star is for driving an HOUR one way without having part(s), then telling me essentially 'no heat and HW for 1-2 more days while we get the part'!! Then charged me $69.00 for a repair he COULD NOT make, and I tipped him $30. I got a local guy on SUNDAY MORNING... he fixed it in an hour. I want my $69.00 Back!! read more

We had Solvit out to do normal maintenance on our water system as our regular provider had not shown up for our appointment. First and foremost, the previous company charged us $212 for our previous servicing which was fine. This time, a year later, we were hit with a bill for $530 for the same work. It's easy to schedule appointments and the technicians are prompt, friendly, and good at what they do. Technicians explained everything to me and gave me pricing upfront. They stand behind there work, I Had one small issue after they left but they came right back to take care of it the next day. I had Dave out to do spring check on my central A/C, tried to sell me suggested service. $400.00 to put refrigerant in, $400 for Capacitor, $400 for leak seal preventative, $400 for "AC renew? and some other thing....totalling $2200.00. Not knowing about cost of refrigerant service I only opted for that. Found out the cost was a total screwing for 1-lb. of refrigerant as his cost is about $8-$10 per pound. The Capacitor cost about $25.00, you get the picture These guys work on straight commission and are looking to "SCREW" you out of as much money as they can. DON'T USE THEM......he didn't even get rid of the clog that was at my air handler when he was looking it over. I had to have someone else come out and diagnose and take care of. Solvit offer such a reasonable rate for the contract we gladly signed up. They came a few times for yearly maintenance and all was well. Last year during AC cleaning our tech came up and said we were seriously in need of Freon. This was in the middle of a heat wave. So we spent $1000. for Freon based on the tech's word. The following year another tech comes to service our heater and we asked about the other tech. Well he was fired as he was "over selling products". Up to the present we called Solvit as we had an emergency with our water heater. We called our local plumber and he told us what was wrong and what we needed but since we had a contract with Solvit we decided to call them. Since they were to busy they said they would come on Mon. between 10-4:00. We called on Monday morning they had no record of the appt. They rearranged their schedule and a tech came within a reasonable time frame. In the mean time my husband looked up the price of the damage part . On Amazon and at Home Depot it was 82.00. Our Solvit tech agreed that was what was wrong with the heater and quoted us a price of 1000.00 for the part. When my husbands told him the price he had the tech called the company and came back with a discount price of 800.00. We said no. My husband ordered the part for 82.00 and our local Heating co came over used our part and just charged us for the labor. Be careful with these people they bring you in with the cheap maintance contract and get you with parts. read more

I contacted Solvit to fix hot water heater that was not firing. I personally had tried to reset multiple times but was unsuccessful. Tech came in with no tools and went through, step by step, the reset process that I went through late the night before and again in the morning on day of service call. He was equally unsuccessful as was in performing reset, and performed no diagnostic testing on any component(s). When I advised that he did nothing more than I did and he performed no diagnostic testing on unit/components, he basically said he had repaired plenty of these units and he knew what he was talking about. We purchased home 6 years ago as new, high end construction, so unit is not old. At best it would be on the very early end of spectrum of possible replacement, at best. He advised only option was total replacement of unit at cost of approximately $2700. Unwilling to accept this I called my brother in law who is a plumber and he came over, ran some diagnostics with ohmmeter, and had unit up and running in 2 minutes with diagnosis as potential flammable vapor sensor issue. Will replace that component. I specifically asked Solvit tech about the sensor issue and concerns were dismissed. read more

Recently had them out for an issue with the furnace, in short all they did was a cleaning, but charged me for a "clogged" line in which the clog was actually the filter, and then charged for a cleaning. My total bill came to $672.00 basically for a furnace cleaning. They will smooth talk you to think they are doing more than they actually are doing. I would never recommend these scammers, even to my worse enemy. Buyer beware they will take you to the cleaners without blinking an eye on doing it. read more

I called Fletcher's but it sold out to Solvit. I had three repairs: two leaky faucets and a leaky drain. Solvit fixed the leaky drain. One leaky faucet was repair but intermittently leaks - I have to go into the basement to see if it leaks, so I don't always check. The second faucet was a washerless one. Solvit claimed they could not get repair parts, so they wanted to replace the faucet which also meant replacing sink. I opted out. Later I called a real plumber (Wayne Sharp) He suggested I go to Modern Plumbing and pick the right faucet. Modern Plumbing had the part. Wayne was busy, guided me through the repair - done at a fraction of what Solvit spent just assessing my problem. read more

We have had several repairs completed by Solvit, work has been of questionable quality. Our basement flooded on one occasion, however Solvit did manage the clean up very well. My advice is get a SECOND PRICE, we have recently discovered we have been terribly overcharged for work by a significant margin (over 100% more than it should have cost) their sales tactics are also aggressive when on site. We will no longer use them as a result as we can't trust the advice or the price, it seems the engineers are on a commission model which creates a conflict of interest. read more

We told them we had four small children so it was really important that they be able to make it here. They gave us a window of 2-4pm. Never told us there would be a problem. Disappointing experience from the time they came out to the time I had my boiler replaced. The communication is horrible within the company. I paid a pricey emergency fee which was a waste of money as they were not able to fix the problem. My husband and I had to jerri rig the boiler to control the leak ourselves until we received a replacement. The information that was provided to us was not accurate. Not to mention they gave me an install date and I took off work and they never showed!! They switched my install date without notifying me, the paying customer!! It was apparent that no one knew what the other was doing. Horrible experience. There was no follow through. The staff that came out was professional. The work that was finally completed was satisfactory. However overall, extremely disappointing. Should have went with my gut instinct. Never again!!!!!!! read more

We have been the customers of SolvIt for a few years. Every time after the services the charges were TOO high. After the recent appointment with electrician from Solvit, we decided to gather a quotes and found out that we were overcharged. We called the office and spoke with a manager (Michael) who was not able to answer the question how their price-lists are formed, what standards do they use as basis? The technician charged us $229+ for just 5 minutes of test/diagnostic, which actually was not necessary because he was able to identify the problem before running that test. Prior to that we paid $69(reasonable) charge to another technician(plumber) at the same day, whom his company sent to check on the hot water boiler, even though it was explained at the time of making appointment that we have only electrical problem. Fortunately, that technician was honest and did not ask us to pay for any checks-up. Another charges over the periods of time were around $700 for a half -an- -hour work and around $300 for 10 min. work changing the small extension under the bathroom sink. The company is not offering any discounts: senior, loyal customer, etc. The manager suggested today, if we do not like their prices, we do not have to accept them: we decided to take his advice and no longer use any of their services and put the SolvIt on the list of not trustworthy companies. read more

Our central air was having issues so we called Solvit Home Services to come look at it. The technician said the motor and zone dampers needed to be replaced and quoted us $3,000. We were a little hesitant because the price seemed really high, but we did not want to be without a/c in the middle of summer so we agreed. Looking back, we were absolutely stupid to agree....Then when it came time to pay he said it would be an additional $250 because there was another part he had to replace while installing the motor. He had not notified me of this prior to charging me for it. So after spending $3,300 for the repairs he tells us we still can't run the a/c because we were very low on refrigerant and it would cost $700 to refill it. He also tried to get us to replace the unit, as well as sign up for their $500 membership service. At this point, I knew he was just trying to rob us even more than he already did, so I said no and called another company the next day to come check the refrigerant. Low and behold, the refrigerant was NOT LOW (it only needed one pound and only cost $65) and there was no reason we couldn't use the a/c with the amount of refrigerant we had. So the Solvit technician flat out LIED to us to try to get us to spend another $700. I did not even dare ask the other company how much they would have charged to replace the motor and zone dampers because based off of the price difference for the refrigerant, I think its safe to say it would have been no where near $3,300. I feel like an absolute idiot for calling Solvit and it makes me sick how much we paid them. Please do not make the same mistake we made and save your money. There are better, cheaper, and more honest companies out there! read more

Aaron demonstrates a "Can Do" attitude and is willing to roll his sleeves up to complete the task at hand. While many individuals may not subscribe to the company mentality, Aaron takes pride in his work and represents the company's values and ideals as if they were his own. Everything was in working order when he departed making the experience above par in my book.
