I'm so happy they're open again!! Whew, that was a very long 2 years of wait. Now I can finally get my banh mi, roast duck and all the other Asian fresh vegetables and herbs, noodles, dumplings and fresh fish on Tuesdays and Friday. They have everything, Vietnamese, Chinese, Thai, Korean, Jamaican seasonings and Filipino groceries. Owners are so nice here and there were times they'd give you free stuff like a can of coconut milk etc. Just 6 years ago the banh mi was $4.50 now it's $8.50 and roast duck was $10 now it's $20. Whoah! How times have changed. I used to get 4 banh mi under $20. Wow. How I took all that for granted. Now gotta spend almost 50% more. Thanks inflation and horrible economic times. But..... I can't survive without my Asian food. Place is clean, organized and they're still working on restocking the shelves. read more

30Mar2024...Atlantic Market is open!!! So it was true there was a fire in other parts of the building so they had to replace everything.. but with that; everything is clean and organized. Very spacious. They still are stocking some items; but the staples of fresh fish and great veggies are back. Along with the fresh made dishes on Fri/Sat. I went late on Sat and was able to grab some Banh cuon (rice noodle wrap around ground pork/mushroom with crispy shallots) and banh Tom (Viet fried shrimp cakes). Also a ton of fresh buns, cakes and egg tarts. And they have dumplings and some frozen thin meats for hot pot! The owners are so pleasant and happy to see old customers return. If you need anything; ask and they will try to get it in for you. I wouldn't call this a Vietnamese market anymore bc they have many options from all different Asian cuisines. Gosh... I think I missed the Son Atlantic heyday. I do remember stopping in years ago and liking it more than I did on my last visit. This time around, there were far more cons than pros: - Seafood seemed fairly priced (think: slightly more than Stop and Shop) until I tried to cook it. Scallops were bitter -- a telltale sign of overexuberant use of tripolyphosphate preservatives -- less-than-fresh, and released almost half their original weight in water. They were far lower in quality than those I've purchased out of the case at Stop and Shop. - A fillet of cod (I think the counterperson told me) was also "fishy" and old, despite being cooked the day of purchase. - Asian vegetables like bok choy and napa cabbage are just slightly south of Whole Foods in pricing, north of KK Market in pricing, and were comparable to, or of lower quality than, both on my visit. There were some interesting selections (banana blossoms, culantro), but nowhere near as varied as I've found at KK. - Pricing for shelf stable products in general was significantly higher than KK Asian Market, the H Mart in Westchester -- or Amazon for that matter. Some of the prepared foods were enjoyable (i.e. the shrimp and pork summer rolls), but were also as spendy as they are at a restaurant, and less fresh than what you'd find at a restaurant. Folks who worked there were not friendly as some other reviewers have reported; some staff were quite surly, though I tried to be pleasant to all. I noticed they were quite a lot warmer to a white male customer. I get that it's difficult to stay in business in these times and don't think I've written a negative review, as a result, in a while. But there isn't much here that makes me burn with desire to drive from Sherman, again. I'd much rather go to KK, H-Mart or markets in NYC. Guess I'll leave Son Atlantic to others. read more

Ming saved Pra Hok for me today! This is why I love this place. I came here the week before, and she told me that she would place an order for it for the following week. She even said she would save it for me. How awesome is that? I crave this like CRAZY! My mom used to make it for me all the time, but she lives in California, so my tongue longs for this spicy and salty treat constantly!!! It is an acquired taste, so others may not enjoy as much as my Asian butt! LOL. The trip down is ALWAYS worth it! This is a great Asian Supermarket. You can find all your rare gems here. If you have questions about an alternative ingredient or even ideas of what to get for certain recipes, you can get the assistance here. She knows her Khmer food! The store has a pretty decent selection when it comes to Asian food. I actually really like coming here, the prices are fair and owner is super sweet! They always have everything that I am looking for. Every time I visit our cousins in Ridgefield, we make it a point to swing by here. They have everything from pho seasoning to shrimp flavored peanuts! I always stock up on my sauces when I am here. They always have my favorite fish sauce and soy sauce stocked. On Fridays and Saturdays, the owner makes fresh Cambodian dishes for sale. If you aren't Cambodian, you wouldn't know this, but it is really hard to find a place that cooks authentic Cambodian food. I have gotten numerous dishes from here and it is always cooked to perfection! My mouth waters when I think about the items she has selected for her menu. I totally recommend coming here for all your Asians goods. It's a 1.5 hour drive for us, so we don't come here as often as we would like, but it is worth it every time. I love that you can get rare vegetables here too, like bitter melon, Thai eggplants, Thai chili peppers... I could go on and on! Love it here!!! read more

I was surprised to find this store in Danbury. They do have pretty much all ingredients to cook Thai food. I got my pickled Wild Galangal and Fresh Peppercorns at this store. They also sell Kaffir Lime Leaves. You just need to ask for them at the register. read more

CT in general don't have a "great" Asian Markets but this store, in Danbury, is much better than others I've shopped at and I usually find what I need for my kitchen. I worked in Danbury and this market has most of the dry goods that I need: fresh Asian veggies, noodles, dumpling wrappers, etc. I love going through their aisles of bottle sauces, condiments, Asian snacks and some dry goods. If you're in Danbury area, this is the best Asian Market around...parking is on a side street off Main. I recommend this store. read more

Vietnamese, Thai, Korean, Japanese, Chinese... I cook it all, and you can get ingredients for it all here at the Son Atlantic Market. The Vietnamese and Thai influence are evident, but many of the staples for all the others can be found as well. There's nothing I can say that other people already haven't... but I'm gonna do it anyways! If you need exotic Asian ingredients or are just shopping for some good priced proteins, then look no further. If you didn't grow up in an Asian household, then you may not know what you're doing when you try to cook it at home. And walking into Son Atlantic may even overwhelm you. Fear not, the staff is eager and willing to help. We went in to get ingredients for some homemade Pho, and while we knew what we were looking for, the (presumably) owner gave us so many extra tips that worked so well. Her Pho recipe, that she was so willing to share, was better than any restaurant. The rest of the staff is also great, just ask for an ingredient and they'll grab it for you. The proteins that Son Atlantic has are fantastic. For starters, the fish is always fresh and plentiful, and of a high enough grade that you could make some great sushi out of it. I won't get my squid or octopus from anywhere else. I've also come out of Son Atlantic with whole Pekin Duck that was literally HALF THE PRICE of everywhere else. And the Vietnamese meatballs are perfect for any soup. Sauces, starches, spices... it's all here. Even the ones you can't find anywhere else. Herbs and veggies... fresh, plentiful, sometimes exotic, and always cheaper than the grocery store. Frozen food... tons of options from apps to meals. Sweets, deserts, and that ever so delightful Boba... yeah, there's that too. Seriously, ANYTHING you'll need, Son Atlantic has it in quantity and quality, and you're doing your dish and your wallet a disservice by going anywhere else. read more

I needed a Thai cooking sauce that is nit carried at mainstream markets so I went online to see if Danbury had an Asian Market. I found this place online and went expecting to find a small shop. It is a very large and nicely stocked store. Not only did they have what I needed, they had many things that I will need in the future. I will be back. read more

I was looking for a local grocery place to support and I love Son Atlantic!!! I got so much stuff for $30, some pictured. Really cute. I have been a regular to this store for about 3 years now and I just want to say how much I love coming to this little wondrous place for my grocery needs. They offer a wide variety of Asian grocery selections, yet I think they are best known for their freshest seafood in town. The owner seems to regularly add new items for customers and I especially love to see more and more selections of Korean groceries. I love their Kimchi. Man I love this place. There's only three Asian grocery stores in Danbury and this is easily the best one out of all three. I've been here a number of times to pick up a few knick-knacks and whatnot, but not really to prepare an entire dish for myself and others. I came in looking for ingredients to make pho and I came out with a lot more than I expected. Son Atlantic Market is located on Main Street in Danbury and you should be able to see it from the road, but the parking lot is a narrow driveway right next door to it, so be sure you don't pass it too quickly or else you'll have to drive around and look for it again (one way street). I think the only entrance to the store is on the side near the parking area, but there could also be one up front, I'm not too sure. When you walk in, the cash register will be in front of you, produce on your left, and the rest of the in store items on the right, which stretches pretty far back I might add. They also have a seafood and a meat counter behind the register, which I've been told gets fresh fish and meats on specific days, too bad I missed it. I walked in with a sole purpose of buying ingredients for making pho, as stated before, so I knew what I was looking for. I started in the produce department for the cilantro, basil, green onions, ginger, and bean sprouts I needed. Super fresh produce and great prices to go along with it. I even asked if there were smaller bags of bean sprouts since the only one I saw was a massive bag packed with them, and the owner gladly consolidated a couple handfuls into a smaller bag. She then asked what I was making, so I told her pho and that hopefully this time around it turns out better than last time. She started running off some ingredients to make sure that I had everything to make it taste great. I was originally going to make "Faux Pho" with pre-made beef stock from the supermarket, but she changed my mind by giving me a packet of pho bo flavoring and a bag of beef bones. I was also given a ton of advice on how to make my broth taste better. Along with all of the other ingredients I picked up, I walked out only spending $25, what a steal. I love this place for their seafood and prepared dishes. They have a variety of items stuffed into that tiny store so you will need to search for everything. The prepared dishes are only delivered on certain days but is sooo good, from roasted duck to fresh bao (asian bread). The only negative is parking. Just discovered this gem of a store. Recently became vegan and there are so many items you need. Very good variety of veggies, tofu, spices, vegetarian sauces, miso, fresh herbs, chilis, soup bases, noodles, wrappers. Plus if you like Vietnamese street food, on Saturday morning there's banh mi, banh cuon, banh xeo. I found gorgeous fresh oyster mushrooms. They have bitter melon which is really good for your microbiome to convert to weight loss type of healthy bacteria. Check it out! read more

This is by far the best Asian market in the area, with a lot of fresh produce, including things that you just cannot get anywhere else, except perhaps in New York City or Queens. Their fresh herbs are always great, especially sweet basil, cilantro, mint, lemon grass, and several others I cannot name but that I experiment with in my cooking. Their herbs keep for a long time because they are fresh, and most importantly, they use varieties that taste great. The basil is particularly good. I don't buy herbs in my supermarket anymore, as they go limp or brown in a day and are almost tasteless by comparison. They have a lot of Vietnamese, Thai, and Chinese products, and have a Filipino section. They have a great selection of fresh fish that they will scale or filet for you, as well as fresh chicken and other meats. On Saturdays, they often have a lot of prepared foods, especially Vietnamese specialties, but a lot of that is gone by noon. They have a great selection of rices from Southeast Asia, particularly Jasmin, Basmati, Red, Black and Sweet sticky varieties, in 5lb and 25lb bags, quite cheaply. Buy Vietnamese coffees here, or Cafe Du Monde from New Orleans which is very similar. Cafe Du Mond is about $6 a can here instead of $14 a can you pay at the "gourmet" stores in Manhattan. read more
