Next, we ordered drinks, which we both were enjoying until the staff walked by and swiped up my unfinished drink. He didn't ask if I wanted anything, just silently took it and kept moving. My husband decided to keep his drink in hand for the rest of his, and when he was done the guy drove by and snatched his up. He didn't stop to ask if we needed anything else. I was planning to have drinks and lunch by the pool, but after that moment I decided I was done with the Umstead pool and left.

On the wedding day, they even steamed my dress as a surprise, which I really appreciated. Our wedding coordinator was organized and incredibly helpful in managing the timeline, making sure everything ran smoothly and on schedule. One thing to note is that the venue is fairly strict about outside vendors not on their preferred list. Thankfully, our photographer already had liability insurance, but there were a few extra personal touches we had to forgo due to these guidelines. The complimentary suite included in our package was a highlight--spacious, beautifully designed, and perfect for getting ready with friends and family. The bed was very comfortable, though the multi-head shower took some getting used to. We also appreciated the thoughtful touches: handwritten notes, complimentary champagne and chocolates at check-in, and another bottle of champagne along with a small piece from the Michael Aram Anemone collection on our wedding night--such a special gesture. Food for both the cocktail hour and reception met our expectations, and many of our guests had great things to say about the quality and hospitality. Our signature cocktails--the Old Fashioned and espresso martini--were solid and well-made. Overall, they truly took great care of us and helped make our wedding day feel special.

Parking unfortunately wasn't great since there were only a handful of spots, so we had to park a bit far away and walk back any time we left. The bed was super comfy and cozy, and room service comes from their restaurant so the food was delicious. The woman at the front desk was incredibly sweet and accommodating, and they also have extras like toothbrushes and other essentials if you forget anything. It is on the pricier side, but if you want to treat yourself for a special occasion, I highly recommend it. We're already talking about making it a tradition.

Although note that you can't really walk to the main campus from here (although they provide a guest shuttle option). Check in was quick and easy, and staff were friendly and helpful. Our room was clean, comfortable, and was stocked with luxury amenities like Nest bath products and a stocked Keurig machinene. The Rizzo Center also had a full-sized gym, complete with two stationary bikes, a rowing machine, a peloton, a cable machine, a couple of treadmills and machines, and full dumbbell sets. They also provided a guest pantry, which was open 24/7, and stocked with ice cream, soda, coffee and tea. They also had several laundry machines on each floor, free for guests to use. The complimentary breakfast on the first floor was great, and included oats, grits, fruits, yogurt, pastries and hot foods (frittata, scrambled eggs, french toast, sausage/bacon, etc.). Definitely recommend staying here when visiting the RTP area.

As a direct result, it's not a business friendly hotel. You can't work or have meetings when "Welcome to the Jungle" and "Everybody Wang Chung Tonight" are playing on repeat. There is no other room to use for work or meetings. I asked. So you should go work at a nearby hotel lobby that doesn't blast music. The Westin nearby has a quiet lobby. Try them. If you are not a business person, or if you are one of those good ol boys who claims that "all of today's music sucks" then you gonna love them dumb ol' songs from 50 years ago. 2) The rooms have kitchenettes, but no utensils. So if you order in food, I suggest you use a stick or a key or a comb, or what I did was use the plastic coffee cup lids as a giant spoon. 3) Breakfast is over at 9:30am. They must be on military schedule. So what I do is stay up all night so I can get in there early and then go back to sleep afterwards. 4) I felt bad I was bothering the omelet guys. They just stared at me. Is this the Gen Z stare? Idk. It could be the "I don't like interacting with customers" or "I don't like you in particular" stare. I'd suggest leaving them alone. There are other options to eat here. Apples, bananas, toast, etc. Omelets are overrated anyway. 5) Do you love Luke Farley? Because his dumb face is in every elevator. Why? Nobody knows. Luke Farley, NC MAGA member. You have to be reminded of his existence every time you leave your room. Luke Farley loves elevators, Trump and you. And the hotel loves Luke Farley, MAGA enthusiast. 6) Like many hotels here, your view will be of a gray wall or a gray parking lot. Those are the 2 options. You can close the shades, but both layers are gray also. I believe gray must be the official color here. Other colors may be considered dangerous. This is an area of liminal spaces, endless expressways, identical buildings and identical trees. It's like the movie Back Rooms but in gray. I suggest ordering some colored glasses or a kaleidoscope when you arrive and look through those once an hour to remind yourself that you are not actually trapped inside of a half-rendered Playstation 2 Level. Some of the identical office buildings nearby have started shining red lights on themselves. We need more of this. Anything. A stupid mural would be fine. Gray on gray on gray is a a big badge of failure. 7) Do you remember the dentist office when you were 8 years old and they gave you that tiny paper cone cup to rinse your mouth out? Only big enough for one sip-and-spit and triangular so you can never set it down? This is what this hotel chose to use for their gym. While other hotels offer bottled water or refillable stations, his hotel has chosen the pediatric dentist cup from 1978. The person in charge of this decision should be sent far away. 8) Speaking of water, they try to chintz you on it. While every other hotel offers at least 1 bottle of water, because, like water is necessary for life? This hotel sees it as a way to make money. It offers no water, unless you know to ask about the secret water. The secret water is hidden just behind the reception counter. They'll only give it to you if you know about it. Otherwise, you will check into a room devoid of water, and you must buy water at their store. Don't tell them I told you about the free secret water. Other than that, yeah it's probably one of the best options around here.

She told me my room had no view and offered to find me one with a view.And I eventually got a different room. I enjoyed the view and the cleanliness of the room. My room had a full sized refrigerator, a dish washer and a kitchenette with a microwave and a glass stove. It also had a little sofa, a writing desk, a tv, a king bed and a shower stall with a toilet in the bathroom. There is a wardrobe and a luggage holder. The lady cleaning my room also did a great job. Francine did a wonderful job cleaning my room. I appreciate all the eork they do. The breakfast area is standard to homewood suites. Has a variety of food- cereal station, fruits on some days that's already washed and cut. And sausages, hash browns, potatoes and bacon on different days. There is always hot coffee, regular and decaf, as well as tea, orange juce, apple juice and water available. Also, the condition of the rooms are better than some of the other hotels in the same area Overall, a wonderful stay. I will be back.

The ONLY issue we had was a foul odor in our bathroom that they were unable to mediate which I'm sure was a sewer pipe issue but we were able to live with it using air freshener and keeping the bathroom door closed. For a tip: our kids LOVE swimming but this hotel has a seasonal pool so if you are coming during the winter months there is no pool access. Overall this place was very good. We would return.
