We stayed at The Mayton over Christmas and it was so cute. We booked the Christmas package and they gave us hot cocoa, cookies, and a beautiful ornament that we loved. We also each got one free drink at the bar! I do wish there had been a little more Christmas feel in the room itself since there wasn't any holiday decor inside, but the hotel and surrounding area were gorgeous. The park right behind it was lit up beautifully with activities, which made it such a fun place to walk through. Parking unfortunately wasn't great since there were only a handful of spots, so we had to park a bit far away and walk back any time we left. The bed was super comfy and cozy, and room service comes from their restaurant so the food was delicious. The woman at the front desk was incredibly sweet and accommodating, and they also have extras like toothbrushes and other essentials if you forget anything. It is on the pricier side, but if you want to treat yourself for a special occasion, I highly recommend it. We're already talking about making it a tradition. read more

This is my third stay at The Mayton, every room has been different but they are always clean, nicely decorated and cozy. Easy check in process, friendly and helpful staff and nice location for walking to shops restaurants and parks. We had a spontaneous trip to The Mayton on the New Year eve. We new that almost everything was reserved. But we got a nice place on the porch under hitters. So, it was worm and cozy. We enjoyed our stay at the Mayton last year for a wedding. Overall the boutique feel and cleanliness was satisfactory, but being in town for a wedding and staying at the upscale hotel, I expected some basic amenities that were not available here. There was no full length mirror in our room, or a shelf in the shower for personal toiletries, forcing you to put them on the floor of the shower. I hope the Mayton considers these as necessities being a common hotel used for wedding and event guests in the area. read more

I popped into the Mayton to see all the local original art gracing this establishment. It's a beautiful building already & the art makes it even more delightful. I was greeted by Thomas - who opened the door with a smile, ready to help me out. He was truly welcoming - even after hearing I wasn't there for a meal (which are quite good) or a room. Made me feel quite at home and offered friendly conversation and helpful commentary on some of goings on at the Mayton, the art, and more. I went for the art but came away with so much more. I got a deal for a night at the Mayton through Offline Raleigh. It was a great decision for my birthday weekend as my friend and I were able to eat dinner that night in Cary, sleep in, eat brunch and then check out (noon!) before we met some other people in downtown Cary. Paul at the front desk greeted us as soon as we walked in, which was nice. The lobby smells amazing! Check in was a breeze and parking is either on the road or across the street where the old library used to be. Each floor has a different color scheme (team yellow!). Our room seemed to be a mix of modern and traditional decor/appearance. The beds were comfortable, but my friend and I wished they'd had extra blankets available as the cover was not very thick. The only drawback was there are not enough power outlets and mirrors. The closet has mirror doors, but I was unable to do my hair in front of them because there wasn't an outlet close enough. If two ladies are getting ready at once, the bathroom is a bit limiting. Perhaps pack a power strip? Brunch in the Verandah restaurant was delicious. The waiter was very nice but couldn't keep my friend and I's coffee cups filled. A minor issue. He checked in on us often. I ordered the chicken and waffles and my friend got the omelette of the day. We both enjoyed our food. And because we're intelligent women, we did the smart thing and ordered the mimosa pitcher! All in all, we enjoyed our stay and I'm glad I made the Mayton part of my birthday weekend. This would be a great spot to stay for the night once festivals return after COVID, or if you're just looking to have a nice spot to retire to after spending time in downtown Cary. read more

I am very late writing this review but its better late than never. This was my first time in NC and I asked my siblings what are some great food spots here (because I review and rate a lot of restaurants in Los Angeles). My brother proposed eating here for brunch. So we went and I gotta say I had a blast. The service was great, loved the atmosphere, location, and the engagement. I am not a huge breakfast person but it was very delicious. I forgot the name of the dish but it was the crispy fried apple with cheese and egg on it. I was a little skeptical about the dish but everything taste great. Not too fulling and the flavor was definitely there. Oh and I also asked for a crab cake on the side and I felt like I was in heaven. Overall: Atmosphere: 9/10 (great place to meet up and have fun) Service: 10/10 (our server was engaging and informative of the menu) Quality of Food: 9/10 (can't give a perfect score because I also need to go for dinner hahaha but the quality is there an well prepped) I hope this helps anyone that want to have a good time with friends/family and eating amazing food. read more

We decided to turn a Friday afternoon RDU airport pickup into a two-day adventure by staying in downtown Cary's Mayton Inn and exploring the cities quaint offerings. Although it has the the look and feel of a historic inn, it is in fact, only three years old and run with pride by its husband and wife owners. It is  perfectly located at the center of Cary, within easy walking distance to restaurants. There's a lot to like about it, beginning with the spacious and comfortable rooms. We went with the Standard King (for around $190 on Expedia) and found the room to be immaculate and well-appointed. The mattress was comfortable and supportive and the triple sheeting was extra nice. The roomy bathroom had a sparkling clean shower with adequate water pressure. Towels were plush and toiletries were spa quality. The only real shortcoming was that the AC struggled to keep the room cool and was a bit loud. Although we didn't partake, complimentary coffee delivered to your room is available anytime. Service provided by the entire staff (particularly Paul and Patrick) was friendly and attentive. There is a beautiful and airy on-site restaurant, called the Verandah, that serves breakfast (included for hotel guests), lunch and dinner. Our breakfast was delicious. Adjacent to it is a comfy bar and den. There's also an adequate workout room in the basement. One item that we particularly appreciated was their very generous 12 noon checkout time, which allowed us to sleep in, eat a leisurely breakfast and take a second stroll through the downtown park just five minutes away before heading to the airport (which btw is about 10 minutes away.) Overall we thoroughly enjoyed our stay and would happily return. If you are visiting the Raleigh area, why not live a little and stay here for just a few dollars more than  your average Embassy Suites or Hampton Inn? I don't think you'd regret it. read more

I loved my stay at the Mayton! My boyfriend surprised me when a night here for my birthday and I could not have been more impressed. We stayed at the deluxe king suite I think? It was honestly larger than a downtown Durham apartment I've had in the past! The large tub and cozy king bed made for a comfortable stay. I definitely didn't want to leave and would go again. The best part of our stay was our host Tristen at the bar. The bar was out of tequila due to a wedding the night before (another sign of an incredible event if you were looking at the Mayton for that!) but he made me a special drink himself and called it my birthday special. He was so sweet and kind and genuinely a great server. We had the pimento cheese (I think that is what it was called) at his suggestion and loved every bite. You definitely want to visit the Mayton! This was my first stay at The Mayton but it won't be the last. The short version is that it's everything I would ask for in a good sized and independently owned hotel. The staff was consistently friendly and helpful; the rooms are large, well appointed and comfortable; the food is excellent; and the location absolutely cannot be beat. Specifically. Location: The hotel is located directly in the center of town. It's walking distance to at least a dozen good places to eat and four nice drinking establishments (at minimum). It's also directly next to the town park which is brand new and lovely. Food: Though the portions are not huge, they're a perfectly reasonable size, and the quality is outstanding. I especially recommend the Southern Eggrolls for a quick bite. Rooms: Spacious (probably due to the age of the building) but completely up-to-date. Coffee maker, refrigerator, and microwave in the room. Bed was comfy but not too soft. Staff: This is where The Mayton really shines. The staff is absolutely professional while still being genuinely friendly and down to earth. I was often greeted by name by the front desk staff, despite only staying four days and not being the sort of demanding guest who gets remembered. Among the staff, one standout was Paul at the front desk. He went above and beyond to help me resolve a business issue that came up during my trip that had nothing to do with the hotel. Have stayed here twice. We are locals and we stayed the first time when our HVAC died in the summer. We enjoyed it so much we decided to stay again for our birthday weekend doing a "stacation" so we could walk to all our favorite restaurants and bars. Both times the rooms were very comfortable and uniquely decorated. I adore that they have a white noise system you can adjust to your liking. So far this is my first night and I'm far from impressed. There is no parking! You literally have to drive up and down side streets hoping for a spot. The outlet on the work desk in the room is nonfunctional. So good luck charging you phone or getting work done. I went downstairs for dinner and ordered the Strip loin medium rare and it came well done. This is just the third hour here. Wow. I was at the Marriot a few miles away last weekend and no issues. This was supposedly a step up. If your paying $50+ a plate it could at least be cooked as ordered. The replacement steak was almost just as over cooked. read more

For our anniversary we usually go to Europe. With covid and all Hubby pulled it off and surprised me. Stayed here and got couples massage which i "highly recommend". The masseuses were both very professional. Very relaxing. Then we got back to our room - champagne and chocolate strawberries were waiting for us perfectly chilled! It was very romantic. It was a perfect night. Mayton inn staffs made it possible. my husband was very happy to see me in awe. Im an interior designer and i was gasping in awe with all the antiquities items displayed in each hallway. I think we got the king room suite. Again as soon as i came my eyes lit up. Very clean, high ceiling, and the interiors are tasteful and harmonious. I didn't want to leave. Slept beautifully with their comfortable bed. I wont review the food because the restaurant is closed. They have room service its just ok nothing special i think because of covid they have limited selections. Will def be back with the massages. Highly recommend this gem. read more

I cannot rave about this hotel enough! I had such a lovely hotel room (living room, bathroom (huge tub and shower!), bedroom, and kitchenette area! I was truly blown away by how much space I had to myself! Truly a wonderful place. The staff here are absolutely phenomenal and ensure that your visit is a delight. I also have to give high, high praise to the staff working breakfast! Specifically, Kevin went out of his way to make my breakfast and overall visit terrific. (Their food is incredible! I'm still dreaming of the waffle and iced coffee I enjoyed in their library room.) According to him, there are a lot of exciting developments happening in the area, as well! A very colorfully bright stay. The lobby itself is beautifully decorated with bright colors and elegant furniture. The staff there are friendly and nice. Wifi is free and works quite well, which is a plus for sure. here's a small gym in the basement with treadmills, weights, and a few other equipment. Their dinning area is beautiful and sweet, great service paired with delicious food (see Verandah's review, spoiler, I gave it 5 stars :) Our room was beautiful as you can see from the photos. The suite included a sink, microwave, refrigerator, couch, 2 TVs; robes and slippers to use. The room was cleaned and neat. The shades are the good kind that completely blocks out the sun which we really appreciated. From the minute you make the reservation to the time you leave, the kindness of the workers, the food quality in the restaurant is spectacular. We just had our son and now daughter in laws wedding there. We had a 4 day weekend, and they couldn't be any more supportive, the rooms and the beds are so comfortable! Stays at boutique hotels have been a mixed experience for me. Some are barely above a low-end motel but have a trendy name and a nightly rate that probably makes the mortgage payment for the owner's mcmansion. Others are full of surprises and personal touches. Thankfully, Mayton Inn falls into the latter category. Staycation. That's what this visit was all about. From the check-in to the check-out, I was treated as though the staff were glad I was there. There are at least eleven different floorplans, plus the cottage, and if all of them are as nicely appointed as the room I was assigned, you can't go wrong. There's a suite of rooms on one end of the third floor, with a separate sitting area, probably a perfect set up for a group traveling together and wanting to be near friends. Each room has its own noise-masking control, although the hotel was mostly quiet. The valet parking, wi-fi (which worked great), turndown service with a chocolate, and the breakfast at Verandah are all complimentary. The bath amenities are vegetable-based. The tablet in each room makes it easy to order coffee, room service, or a session at the spa. My room had both a small refrigerator and a microwave. There is no coffee in the rooms, but there is a pod coffee maker if you bring your own. Otherwise, room service will deliver freshly brewed coffee at the time of your choice. Mayton Inn brews coffee from Muddy Dog in Morrisville and, as I was told, grinds the beans each day so every cup is fresh. The bed is comfortable, more so than it looked, and felt like a foam mattress or perhaps it was a mattress topper. The tv was about the same width as the bed -- huge -- and had a nice variety of stations. The head of housekeeping, Judy, introduced herself to make sure I had resolution to my self-inflicted check-in issue, Patrick, both the valet and the bellhop was also a life-saver on that same issue and managed to help keep my panic at bay. Mayton Inn is perfectly situated as a base to explore downtown Cary. It's within walking distance of several restaurants, shops, the theater, library and the art center. read more

I used to dine at the Mayton Inn often in the past with family, friends and groups from work and always enjoyed. I was disappointed to find out recently when I called to reserve a private room for a family birthday lunch that there as a deposit required AND a room fee AND a minimum amount to be spent. I do understand one of these being required, but not all three for a lunch on a Tuesday. It is no longer the Verandah Restaurant which may be why the changes and new management as well. I will be sadly looking at other locations to plan any group gatherings. read more

This might just be the best "bang for your buck" hotel in the Raleigh-Cary area. First of all, I love Cary. It's so, quaint and sweet. The Mayton Inn reflects that from the moment you pull in to the pillar adorned driveway, to the colorful hallways that lead to your room. Unlike some of the other reviews, I actually experienced amazing service. I arrived after midnight, which is exactly when I would have expected the service to be a bit ghostly. But instead, I pulled up my rental car, and immediately one of the staff walked to the front desk, greeted me and even knew my last name before even walking around the counter to check my reservation. She was warm, knowledgeable (I learned that this building used to be a bank and was briefed further on the property and amenities) and then was actually escorted to my room, just in the spirit of hospitality. Among the amenities, she mentioned complimentary breakfast. No big deal, right? Oh, except for when she mentioned that I could order it to my room from my tablet if I didn't want to come downstairs to eat. (Which is perfect because I don't like interacting with human beings early in the morning!) While I would have been happy with the basic continental breakfast repeat offender menu items, I was shocked and pleased to find a plethora of hot, decadent dishes as part of the complimentary breakfast (without a limit of how many to order.) Yes, there is a small service charge/gratuity, but it's truly one of the most generous complimentary offerings I've experienced in quite some time. Essentially, I ordered two poached eggs on fresh, buttermilk biscuits, with bacon and cheddar cheese, orange juice and coffee and I believe I only had to pay for the juice and gratuity/service. Additionally, you can also book services at their spa on the tablet as well. If you're there for a short stay, you may want to book ahead, but pretty cool that exists. The room itself was simple, clean and cozy but pretty much all I really needed. The orange chocolate truffles on each bed stand didn't hurt either. Plus, valet is also complimentary! I mean, really?! The Verandah Restaurant is on the side of the Mayton Inn building where there is no valet service for fine dining and only one handicapped parking space. They do have 3 eco car battery charging stations. Ordered a Bushmills Black Bush Irish Whiskey with two ice cubes and a splash of water. What I received was not what I ordered and it was presented without a square napkin or coaster at the table. The distinctive taste of the Bushmills was not there. I do not know what I was served. The lunch service begins with a pleasant and nice presentation of a bowl of celeriac soup. I also ordered the grilled bibb lettuce salad, however, the accessory items which included the trout, oysters, and shrimp were neither local Atlantic ocean caught nor locally farm raised to table seafood fare. Nothing was from North Carolina. Maybe they just ignored the "Goodness Grows in North Carolina" concept of locally sourced fine dining. Would have preferred food sources from North Carolina Fresh Caught Seafood but not questionable farm raised from undisclosed locations. I excused myself to find the toilet and found it was not cleaned for restaurant or bar service customers. There was paper towels on the floor and it had a noticeable hole in the wall bashed in by the lavatory door handle in both the men's and women's toilet. Ordered the Southern Style green tomato sandwich which is served with a noticeable hard cooked, fried, well done, hard yolk egg and a side of rough cut with the skin on french fries. Unfortunately the tomatoes lacked flavor and these fries were soggy and cold. The fries were definitely neither pom frites blanched and fried Southern style hot, nor a crispy exterior texture. The side item quarter sliced pickle spear was flaccid and lacked any crispness. The Verandah is a new restaurant to the Cary neighborhood and perhaps the service and food will improve in the near future. The obvious lack of the advertised valet service and only one handicapped parking space or access ramp to the restaurant was a drawback. They do have three Eco car battery charging stations close to the building and three regular parking spaces which is very progressive but parking is a challenge with so few spaces. read more

A great little boutique hotel in the heart of downtown Cary. I wish I could say that we stayed here for the night but we only attended an event in one of their meeting rooms that was just past the restaurant. Everyone we encountered was friendly and helpful. The restaurant area is small and there is some outdoor seating. We will be back when the weather warms up. Our event included several appetizers that were delicious. Wine, beer and some tasty lemonade was also on hand for our event. We parked at the (old Cary Elementary School) Cary Arts Center because they have electric car chargers there., It's about a 2 block walk to the Inn from there. Otherwise, I saw valet parking. read more

What is not to like about this place? It is a fantastic boutique hotel tucked away in a great location in downtown Cary, NC. There are 10-12 great little restaurants and pubs within a 5 minute walk. The rooms are fun and distinctive, the restaurant and bar are great, and the staff are really wonderful. I have held small corporate meetings here with groups of 5-12 colleagues, and they can comfortable handle a pretty decent sized wedding and reception as well. Food is awesome, and I love meeting people in their library for a drinks and finger food. And the room rates are terrific. I have a senior executive who travels here periodically from overseas for visits and he routinely would stay at the Umstead. I suggested the Mayton and it is now his go-to hotel when he is in town. I cannot say enough about this place! read more

I can't explain my love for this hotel! From the perfectly matched vintage and modern decore, down to the amazing team, everything about our Mayton experience was P-E-R-F-C-E-T! We were one of those last minute... low budget... Wedding couples trying to get married in the days of COVID. The team went out of there way to make sure everything was clean and safely spaced (we have a 19 month old who can't wear a mask so this was very important to us). They set aside a beautiful room for us to hold to the ceremony in, I believe it was 202. We even had plenty of space to set up our laptop and live stream the special event. :) After the ceremony we went to the Page room for our champagne toast, cake cutting and dinner. The room was perfect and dinner was absolutely mouth watering amazing! Even with our small budget the team went above and beyond to make us feel like a million bucks! That is the true definition of hospitality. A special thank you to Mallory, Amie, the whole sales team, Bryan our server, and chef! The one-star rating is based on the hostess' behavior. My husband and I have dined at rhe Mayton several times, and we always make reservations.We have never had an issue just going to the bar to get a drink, either. Last night, we went to meet some friends at the bar, and the way the hostess pounced on us was off-putting. We would never return to the Mayton had this been our first experience there. She basically wanted to know everything, but my blood type regarding us meeting our friends there and letting us know we couldn't be there if we didn't have reservations. I looked at her in amusement and said "ok" but if she could read the room, she would know I was really saying "you to need to calm the hell down." I went to the bathroom, called our friend, and we met them for drinks elsewhere. There are way too many options downtown where you can walk in and have drinks. Your hostess needs training on how to communicate because someone will take offense to her behavior and verbally abuse her. read more

My experience with the reservation of Milton was nothing but disturbing. I was treated rudely and aggressively by Ms. Whitehall. I had a discount code of 20% on standard rate which I booked in person with the total amount of $429, when I spoke to Ms Whithall she told me that the rate for those two days is $490. When I pointed out that the rate I was offered was not a 20% discount from the standard rate as it should have been $392, she began to scream at me and told me she does not have time to deal with me. I stayed here for a fun Girls weekend and was incredibly disappointed by the lack of southern hospitality. Upon arrival there was no formal greeting or assistance with our luggage. The room is mediocre but for this price I'd expect that we're provided with robes and slippers. The room was clean and daily room service was provided. The hotel rooms are beautiful inside, and the decor is quite unique. The atmosphere is aesthetically pleasing with carefully chosen furnishings and nice colors. The drinks and food are a little pricey, but you are paying hotel prices for the atmosphere. The verandah is nice, and there is more than one couch and set of chairs to have an intimate gathering in the downstairs dining and bar area. My wife loved her craft cocktail, although it's not anything you couldn't get at another trendy bar. Food was tasty, but there were a lack of healthy options, as this is mostly Southern cuisine. Nice location as you can easily walk to other attractions in downtown Cary. One very disappointing aspect of the hotel was the lack of parking. I was shocked to only see a handful of spots on the side of the building. The hotel should have thought that one through. I would be upset if I were an out of town guest and had to lug my suitcase all the way down the street. read more
