So I decided to go to best Western on Monte Vista Avenue in Vacaville California. If you like a key card that has to be re-keyed 12 times. Literally it had to be repeated 12 times. I was denied entry into my room and had to go to the office and get a new key card 12 times in one evening. The room was musky and dank It took at least 16 hours to get that taste out of my mouth. The room was clean, but the curtains did not shut the light out, and I could not completely be hidden from the outside. The people who work there are a special kind of people. That includes the punk rocker who had the 10 inch rooster tail on the top of his head. I've got nothing against rock rock or punk rockers, but, come on. There was so much illegal traffic and ladies of the night staying there that I was terrified. I didn't know if I was gonna be attacked or car jacked when I was there. I asked to speak to the manager and I was brushed off regarding the room. They offered me another room on the second story and it smelled just as bad as the first one. I never got to talk to the manager. At that point I was done. I guess I threw out the 11th key card. Best western is more like, worst western!

Bed was comfortable, although had a few long hairs that were stuck on the sheets when we pulled back the comforter. We removed and moved on. Service when we showed up at 8:30 was weird. The front door was locked, and everyone who worked here seemed like it was their first time working a hotel. We told him we drove in and he didn't mention paying for parking until we were about to leave the desk. I asked in the morning to split the bill and the front desk worker told me "I wouldn't know how to do that" and said she couldn't. Weird. The hotel fire alarm went off at 6:30am and we all started to evacuate. It turned off 3 minutes later, so we went back into our rooms. Called the front desk who gave absolutely no guidance and said "someone walked all the floors and it looks fine, so do what you'd like". It went off again at 7:45 and again at 8. Breakfast was minimal and they were out of loads of stuff when we went down at 7. Seems like a really great hotel if they could get some qualified staff and work out kinks.

Dominique at the front desk was incredibly helpful and went above and beyond to get us a room near an exit door, which made taking the pups out so much easier. We stayed in a two queen bed room. It was a bit on the smaller side and slightly cramped, but it worked for what we needed. The setup was interesting--the bathroom itself was quite spacious, but the sink was located outside the bathroom and felt very small, which was a bit unusual. A few light fixtures weren't working, but the AC unit worked well and kept the room comfortable. We appreciated not being disturbed by housekeeping, which allowed for a calm and relaxing environment. If you're looking for something more upscale, this isn't quite the place--but it's a perfectly manageable and pet-friendly stay. Plus, being so close to the premium outlets, restaurants, and entertainment made it super convenient for a fun getaway.

The stylistic decor is genuine, aesthetically pleasing and truly comfortable. With modern amenities festooned against the backdrop of a 1950s Western Black and White film, staying there transports its guests into a tangible connection to Vacaville's decades old past. If you are an artist or an enthusiast of retro design, local history, or of course imbued with facets of the equestrian lifestyle, then being afforded the chance to stay there will appeal to your senses and create a feeling of belonging. Which I do believe is rare in the hotel/motel industry. It's a one of a kind facility with a warm, accommodating management staff and I'll leave it at that, as praising it any further would bring a certain radiance which would detract from the locales mysterious and secluded vibe. How a compound so near to the busiest freeway in Northern California could tuck itself away into the Lagoon Valley pastoral beauty and remain a flower unplucked and hidden is rare and something we old school Vaca-villlagers and lovers of nature alike do appreciate and love. Should you stay there, feel special and enjoy the gentle whisking away into another time....
