Omg! It was hard to go to Markely Cove! All of the cabins burned down in the fires! It was so sad to see the charred concrete cabin foundations. And...the water is so low in the lake that one of the boat launches was closed. Wow. I sure hope they are able to recover and rebuild. read more

Another great day on the lake !! Definitely recommend coming here for boating and tubing! It was a lot of fun. The staff, was helpful and understanding. What an absolutely perfect place and way to spend Thanksgiving with family and friends. I have visited Lake Berryessa before but this was a first "roughing it" lakeside in small cabins. Not enough superlatives for this latest adventure. The cabins are small sleeping anywhere from 2 to 6 people. You'd have to check with marina staff to determine the maximum. The sleeping areas of our Eagle's Nest were nicely appointed and included all bedding and towels as do all the cabins. Nice not to have to schlep all that stuff with you. The living space is open, friendly and sunny. The large covered deck is a huge plus -- plus more private with gated and enclosed ends. Each cabin is different. I did a pre-visit and was able to see the cabins to make my selection. Some cabins are also pet friendly. Kitchen's are well equipped but you'll definitely want to inquire about what that means if you plan any serious cooking. Additional ovenproof bake ware would have helped and we did bring some additional pots. Aluminum foil and plastic wrap and plastic containers for food storage in the fridge are up to you. The full-size gas grill on the deck was fantastic -- cooked our turkey -- it also has another burner if the interior stove top is full. The bath includes nice touches of soap, shampoo and conditioner and little packs with Q-tips and sewing kits. The marina store has the usual odds and ends but you'll definitely want to bring all your food and spices. Markley Cove staff was extremely helpful and friendly so don't be afraid to ask questions about what to bring or not to bring. Of course for boaters and anglers....this is heaven! Recreation enthusiasts will not lack for things to do. Next time hope to stay in one of the lakeside cabins. While they don't have covered decks, they overlook the lake! Upper level cabins have forest views but are still very nicely situated. We had four people in our cabin and fortunately the November temps accommodated us so we could spend time on the deck. In colder and wet weather, the 6-person cabins might feel cramped without the use of outdoor spaces. Certainly warm months are more crowded and probably a bit more noise. Visiting during the off-season late fall and winter months made this a quieter and more restful experience. See for yourself! read more

We made a reservation at Markley Cove Resorts for my boyfriend's birthday, and although there are reviews on here that had mixed average/bad experiences, we had a different experience! To start off, driving to the resort was pretty easy (we live in Davis, CA and it was about a 30 minute drive up). When we arrived at the store, we were greeted by a woman (forgot her name but she was pretty nice). I told her we were there for a Cabin (The Monticello) and that we requested for an earlier check-in. (Our check-in was at 3pm, but we checked-in at 12pm! Luckily, nobody rented the night before) Sean, the guy standing next to her knew who I was already and remembered my request earlier on in the week. Sean took us into the office and finished all of the paperwork! I must admit, I had so many questions about the different things to do around the area. Sean had a great attitude and answered all of my questions in a very professional way! From there, he gave us many different documents/resources to help us navigate around the area and the trails/attractions nearby. Before leaving the store, he even gave us a free bag of ice, which was VERY helpful during our stay. Price: We went at the end of April, so the price was cheap! Definitely cheaper than a hotel room and for the amount of people that are allowed definitely made the price worth it (April was still low season, high season starts May 1st so I definitely recommend reserving a cabin during low season. April was perfect because the weather was starting to get nicer. Cabin: Our Cabin was The Monticello cabin. It had a large closed patio (which was by far my favorite spot in the cabin). There was a huge grill and perfect for entertaining our guests. We brought our dog and he absolutely loved lounging with us as well. Love that this place (and all the cabins) are dog friendly! Inside you'll find a nice living room area and a full sized kitchen with a huge fridge. There's one bathroom, which was fine since we only stayed there for a night. Would have been great if there were 2 bathrooms, though. There was a master's bedroom with a Queen sized bed. Besides the patio being our favorite spot, we absolutely loved the loft area! The loft had 4 beds!! Everyone had their own bed so we were all comfortable. The only downfall with the loft was that we all had to crouch down a little to get by, but it was meant for sleeping anyways, not standing. Tips for the Cabin: They have all the necessities you may need from towels (you get 6 bath towels), blankets, and pillows. If you are planning on cooking/grilling, they have a lot of the things you may need already, which was great because our group did not want to bring our whole kitchen from home. The cabin included: coffee pot, microwave, plats, salad bowls, soup bowls, glasses, wine bottle opener, grater, array of knives pot holders, pots with lids, spatulas, and the basic utensils. However, if you plan on just relaxing and do not want to deal with washing a lot of dishes during your stay, then feel free to bring your own plastic dishes/utensils. Trail: We planned a hiking day trip at The Blue Ridge Trail about a mile or two from the cabin. We took our dog and he absolutely LOVED IT! (There are 3 trails--2 strenuous and 1 moderate) Monticello Dam: The Monticello Dam was awesome!! We always saw videos of it online, but didn't realize that it was just 30 minutes away! The water level was pretty low, so you can see the structure, but it was still pretty cool. (Pictures included in review) Overall Experience/Tips: Wonderful cabin (I recommend 'The Monticello) if you ever want to bring a bigger group of friends or family out for a relaxing night/weekend! There won't be any signal at the Cabin, but it will be a great way to enjoy a nice time with the people you go with! With there being no signal, PLAN your trip accordingly and make sure to ask questions before you go! I will be including a short video of the cabin itself, but take my word for it and reserve today! And a big thank you to Sean, although some yelpers may have had bad customer service experiences at this resort, Sean made us feel right at home. Staff is helpful. Resort is well kept. Our boat has been docked here on a poly-lift since berryessa marina closed. Last weekend we thought we forgot our life jackets for the littles and we're able to buy some from the store and rental dock. When we realized we left them on the boat at the end of last summer they took them back no problem. The return process was quick and easy, even though one of the tags was missing. Our first weekend up this year the generator on the dock wasn't working, the maintenance guy was quick to come help and figure it all out so we could get our boat up. I believe his name was Alex, he was very polite and showed me how to fix it for next time. We like this place enough to be tossing around the idea of purchasing a houseboat so that we can stay on the lake again. If you choose to rent a cabin please note that they do not have easy water access. Some have quite a hike down and back, even with the water high. But the cabins are very nice. We have enjoyed staying in them in summers past. read more

The roommate and I have been going up to Lake Berryessa with his boat for the last three or four years. Other than one random time (when they ran out of launch slips?), we've always launched from Markley Cove. This last time, we launched here on Sunday, September 18th around 10:30am. Launching your boat with parking is $20. If you are meeting people with a boat, it's just $10 to park your car. I like Markley cuz it's cleaner than the other spot we've gone to. Also, their ramp is pretty wide, so you can launch two boats at a time. (Before the drought, I believe it was wide enough to launch three boats, but they had to move the ramp due to the water level). The restroom is also clean, though I do wish they had more than one stall in the women's restroom. Even though there are a couple of launch spots closer to where we store the boat, the roommate still prefers to go to Markley Cove. It's kept up well and the layout is pretty convenient. They have docks off to the right if you need to hang around and wait for any lagging friends. Just look for any signs that indicate a private dock as you can't use those. Note: There is no cell service here, so make sure you know where you're going before you head here. It can get a little confusing if you don't start your nav before you enter the no cell area. read more

Very Disappointed. We were looking forward to getting out in nature and go kayaking after a very long shelter in place. Walking into the Markley Cove store/rental office made us very uncomfortable. Inside half of the staff were not wearing masks. 90% of the customers were not wearing masks and none of the staff said anything to any of them even though the sign on the door says everyone needs to wear a mask inside. I was a little relieved when I saw a highway patrolman pull up. But he too came into the store without a mask. If the people put in charge of enforcing the law are not following the rules I guess how can you expect everyone else to. I would not have left this review if at the very least the staff at Markley Cove were all wearing masks and following their own rules posted on the door. read more

We come here religiously ever weekend, dragging the boat up from Walnut Creek. Great facilities, easy launching. Recovering the boat can be interesting sometimes as there are a lot of drunk Oorahs that make for some great entertainment later in the afternoons on the summer weekends. BUT, that being said its not Markley Coves fault. It's a superb gateway to getting afloat on Berryessa. We recommend it in a heartbeat. :-) read more

Stayed here for our 1st time Labor Day weekend! We got a 6 person cabin, which was also great! I can't speak highly enough of the staff and Austin! They all were big time helpful. The only drag for the whole weekend was, this side of the mountain doesn't have cell service. Can't wait to come back! read more

As I was reading through some reviews I noticed a few people stated how this place was racist towards them.. sat a little blue with me because this place was so awesome and the people here were beyond friendly! (My boyfriend and I are African American & Mexican)! We got The Lupine Cabin. Seems like all the cabins are pretty much equal in size. You also have NO reception. Anywhere. You actually lose reception miles before even getting to the resort. But that's wilderness for ya! And you have to stock up on groceries before hand. They have a small town about 12 miles from the resort called Winters, if you need to get to food/groceries and gas. Now the fishing part. This place is GREAT for fishing. We just fished off the docks, and we caught 18 blue gill! One was 2lbs, huge blue gill!! So I could only imagine if you were fishing off a boat. Which they do have rentals. They don't have fishing boats but they have ski boats, jet skies and another kind of boat that I can't remember. We could fish all hours too. The resort is closed off to other people who are not renting the cabins, so at night it's very quiet and you have tons of area to fish. This place was great, and the staff were friendly and so helpful! Super accommodating. Very well kept and clean. Definitely would recommend for small families. read more

My cousin rented a ski boat for her birthday on the fourth of July weekend. Lake Berryessa is such a gorgeous and peaceful lake, even during the holiday weekend. The check-in process with Markley Cove Resort was pretty quick and we got to the water before 8am. Overall, we had a good experience with the shop, but here are the issues we had that day: 1) Life vests not fitting all of the passengers-- Before you set sail, I suggest you make sure that each of your passengers have well fitting life jackets. Although the guy who helped us asked for our sizes, 2 of our passengers did not have a vest that they can fit. 2) Toys on board (wake board and skis) are for the regular size 10 and below. We probably wasted more than an hour going back and forth to get a bigger wakeboard and larger vests for our size 14 passengers. 3) Positive--They are dog friendly! We brought our dog and they were pretty chill about having him on their boat. 4) Finally, the biggie. We had an unfortunate (and I guess rare) incident where the throttle on our boat completely stopped working. There was no cell phone reception and we were stuck in the middle of the lake for a good 20 minutes before a passerby stopped for us and offered to take our captain back to the shop. It took another 30 minutes for the Markley team to reach our boat, and another 45 mins to get our boat inspected and towed back to shore. Lucky for us we were almost at the end of our rental period. The owner was very generous and charged us 4 hours instead of the full 8 hours though. Aside from these, all had a good time. We're hoping to come back this coming September! read more

We went there this past weekend and had a very mixed experience. THe lake was beautiful and the weather was great. The staff at Markley were also a mixed bag. The guy that runs the place was for lack of a better word a JERK. The rest of his staff were real nice and helpful. We rented a speedboat, a jetski anda wakeboard and the day was going along great until the rope for the wakeboard got stuck in the propellor. It took them 1hr 30 min to drag us back to the marina and cut the rope from the propellor.The guy charged us $100 for the friggin rope ($25 @ walmart) and also told us that there had been propellor damage and told us we had to pay up 250$ for that....... we still had time left so he sent us out back on the lake on the same boat with the 250$ worth of damage...... He just had this real bad condescending attitude while charging us top dollar..... i dont know if hes like that with everybody or if it was just us...our group was all asian....he isa gouge......avoid the place if you can....im never going back there..... give the others a try read more

Only store nearby - talk about location, location, location. They have everything from drinks (alcoholic and non-alcoholic), snacks and prepared food, clothing, sandals, bug spray and sun block etc. All the things you may need out on the water and may have forgotten to bring with you. There is a relaxing patio in the back available to hang out on. Plus there are clean restrooms available. The prices here are a bit high (reason for the 4 stars and not 5) but I guess they can be since like I said they are the only store around. Extremely convenient!! We spent the weekend in The Berryessa cabin including bringing our dog and renting a slip for our boat. The cabin, while small, was completely functional. Great shower, well equipped kitchen, great deck where we had all of our meals. All staff were helpful and friendly. We look forward to returning. read more

Came here yesterday on whim. Found em google/called said we were on our way. Started out as trying to rent a couple of skiis But everything was reserved for the weekend. Gentlemen on the phone assured us they had equipmemt to rent. He sold us on the VAlCO!When we arrived everybody there from the stop at the top of the hill where you get your parking pass to down where you get you equipment was fun and friendly.They said "your here for the VALCO?" This is a great cove to launch from. It's the first one you get to (Paradise Cove is about 7 miles further down 128) coming from Winters. When we got here yesterday around 1pm (yes... late launch) the launch parking was full. So you could launch, but then had to come back out to the highway to find a safe place to park. Not ideal, but at least you can still launch. We actually got really lucky and a spot opened up in the lot as we were launching so we didn't have to walk. When I launch from Markleys, I like to run the channel up and down from the dam to the opening of the larger lake - usually calm enough for some great wake boarding. Getting out to the bridge from here is quite a long haul but if your up for cliff jumping or partying (for the big weekends) it's a manageable drive and well worth it. The resort store itself is pretty sparse (we couldn't find the size plug we needed... Pretty basic) but will usually due in a pinch. Launch fee is $20 (been the same for several years now). read more

Went there to launch a boat for fishing. Bathrooms were clean. Very nice grocery store. When we got back from fishing, we discovered that a tire on our truck was going flat. We were having a difficult time jacking up the truck. Since there is no cell service, the store let me use the phone to call AAA. We still continued to try to jack up the truck. One of the employees came out to see what we were doing and said that he would get one of the other employees to help up as they had equipment. An employee came out and helped us changed the tire. All the employees were very nice to us when we were there Thank you Markley Cove. read more

Came here on mothers day with my wakeboard boat only to find out that the battery was dead on the launch ramp! To make matters worse the key broke off in the ignition when I tried to start it. The folks in the store were very accommodating and called someone named Mike to help us out. He brought tools to dig the broken key out and even offered to take a shot at welding the key back together. Once that was sorted out he provided a jumper box to get the boat started and even let us hold on to it for the day in case the battery died again. Everyone was very friendly and very determined to get us out on the water. Thank you to Mike and everyone else at Markley Cove for saving our mothers day! read more

I booked a cabin online. The website is nice and everything went well until I needed to cancel due to the fires. The email link on the website didn't work. The people were really nice over the phone although I had trouble reaching them at times due to the fires (Oct 2017). I very nice guy ultimately returned my call and gave me a full refund since it was clear that I tried to cancel within the proper time period but their website email didn't work and they did not answer their phones. Overall good experience but they need to fix the email on their website. I will plan another trip in the future. read more

I give this place 3 stars only because my main complaint is that if you buy a yearly launch pass($300) its not good from the day you bought it tell the same day next year....its only good tell the end of year.....which means if you buy the pass half way through the year you still pay full price but you only get 6 months... even if you buy the pass a month before the new year you will only get that ONE month at a price of 300 bucks....Kinda like fishing lic ...but a fishing lic dosent cost 300 bucks.... the launch price is OUTRAGOUS TOO no it really is 20 bucks per launch? lol i mean we pay it but theres no way i can give more then 3 stars..... However I I will say this, compared to the boat rental place down the hill they are 100 stars better then marty and his rude staff........ The people at markly are always friendly they always have a smile.....They always help if you have an issue like need to use the phone or need to get your vehicale past the gate for some reason or another........ They always laugh if you make a joke even it its bad one...basicly they rock excpect for the crazy launch feees and the fact that they screw people on there yearly launch pass id say they are good......I wish they would stop screwing people on the yearly pass though so i could give them 5 stars......i really want to but i just cant i mean it really is not cool that your 300 dollar pass ment for a year wont get you a year unless you pay for it at the start of the new pass season........ This review is about the Markley Resort "Cabins" They are actually trailers with some stairs, decking and facial treatments to hide the lower section. Not all that clean (my white socks were dark brown after walking around for 10 minutes). The outdoor, lake facing decks are quite nice and a welcome refuge from the dirty trailer. They should be clear that these are mobile/trailers on their website. read more

After reading all of the wonderful reviews from my fellow yelpers and also skimming through the official website of this place, I decided this would be an ideal spot for my birthday as it is during spring and a combination of spring weather and water sports sounds fantastic to me. However, I have experienced a set back as I have been trying to get a hold of this place for about a week now to find out what rates will be as well as make a reservation. I have left two messages and have called several times without leaving messages to see if i will get lucky... Hmm.. so I am wondering if anyone has experience troubles in the past with getting a hold of them? MARKLEY COVE STORE - 1 - as in I'll throw 1 egg at that RACIST /KID HATER lady that's working at the counter- how's that for my review? MARKLEY COVE RESORT - 3 1/2 STARS MCR Store: I long wished to not experience a one on one conversation with a RACIST. But SHE-DEVIL has pushed me to the limit that I have to blast her in front of everyone. She used my son as an excuse to talk to me like am her child but I know he's the least of her issues. Let me tell you why, soon as she got into that office I asked her nicely for directions from NAPA her reply "DO THEY HAVE TO COME FROM NAPA?!" So I was like "Well they're already there so I don't know where else you want them to be". With a sigh she got the map and highlighted the direction. I said my thanks and use their phone (No mobile signal. Their payphone outside is not working, the other lady at the store was nice enough to let me use their office phone). After calling my friends I stepped out. 30 minutes later and an hour before our reservation I went back in ME: "Uhmn we have a reservation at 3, I want to make sure that we're at the right place and if so, what do we need to do from here?" SHE-DEVIL: with a sigh again "WELL YOU HAVE TO CALL THE BOAT co." ME: "Boat Company? What Boat company? Wouldn't you be able to check If I am registered or not?" I'm lost..... I let her go again because I really don't want her to ruin my day and partly because I let my son pound the window repeatedly maybe because he knows the SHE-DEVIL does not like him and he's on a mission to piss her off. LAST STRAW: When the rest of my friends are done changing, we headed to the gate SHE-DEVIL stormed outside started screaming at us and shaking her head. She said we need to register our car first and went on blabbing NOTICE: When I called the company they did not tell me to REGISTER our car with her and when I was asking her earlier SHE DID NOT mention that either. Alas, my voice needs to be heard...action did not need to go further because my day was about family, friends and fun. THE RESORT it's nice, well maintained, have a boat rental place inside that has the best price around the area. We spent the day time boating and the evenings relaxing, playing board games, star watching, and just enjoying being away from cell phones and crazy city life. The cabins offer the perfect balance between not having to completely rough it with tents and not paying crazy expensive resort type prices. Very friendly staff, helped us get checked in right away, clean cabins. And of course the lake was beautiful. Overall a great experience. read more

So I decided to take my son fishing this morning and decided to go to Markley Cove because I've been going there since I was a baby. While I was fishing with my four-year-old son a guy on a golf cart came by and very rudely said for me to get out of there before he called the cops on me. I tried to explain myself but the guy was very rude and it almost seem like he was trying to start a fight with me. I went up past the main office and the lady decided to come out and tell me that I can't fish down there as I was leaving. Now you would think since I am a combat veteran I would get a little respect but instead I have people disrespecting me for no reason and not allowing me to enjoy my freedom. I recommend any fellow veterans to avoid this resort by all means necessary. It is a very sad day in America when you can't even take your kid fishing at the local lake. JT USMC read more

Markley Cove Resort is located about two miles from Monticello Dam, at Lake Berryessa. When you arrive to Markley Cove, you will notice that the business is usually hopping with a lot of tourist, bicyclists, fisherman, boaters and boat rental inquiries. The staff at Markley Cove Resort are "Wonderful" They greet you as you walk through the doors and try really hard to assist everyone in a polite timely manner. In some cases treat you like your family. Markley Cove Resort provides eight beautifully furnished cabins, 5 in a quiet woodsy environment and 3 cabins over looking the marina. The Lake view cabin is Very beautiful over looking the marina. We got to hang out on the long porch and BBQ with the family. Watching the boats come and go out to play on Lake Berryessa. I enjoyed sunbathing and reading my book. How peaceful! Another thing I like about Markley Cove is they have a boat rental facility in their resort. I got a discount for renting a cabin and another discount for renting a boat. That was a great day. It was nice to play out on the water in our pontoon rental all day and be able to go to the cabin and relax and watch direct TV after a shower. They had fresh towels in the bathroom and the linens were so clean. I didn't want to go home. I recommend Markley Cove for their hospitality and cleanliness. It was worth every penny. I recently spent a day on lake Berryessa putting in my boat at Markley Cove Resort everything was fine but when I retrieved my boat trailer from the parking lot (way overcrowded and small ) I noticed my trailer was damaged, hey shit happens ..... I spoke to a Chad that is the manager, we looked at video and found out what happened and initially he really did help me and said ill get you a couple of the video tape so you can talk to the nice "hit and run" culprits well after 3 emails 7 phone calls to Mr. Chad and several messages left For " Linda" the owner I haven't received one return email or returned follow up calls.....THIS IS NOT GOOD CUSTOMER SERVICE....UM HELLO? I feel like we had a good thing going Makley. I called and talked to many many people about renting two cabins for two nights. Simple is the first thing that comes to mind. The first person I talked to was very nice and even seemed to like her job. I found out later that it was most likely because she had no idea what was going on. After 3 or 4 phones calls we deiced to go ahead and paid in full for our trip. It was not until 3 hours later that I received a phone call informing me that its a 3 night minimum. This was not good because 2 is less that 3 and we would have to cancel our reservation because that rule was made my Baby Jesus himself. I try not to sin on Tuesdays so we canceled. Now its not that it was an employee of Markley that messed up the info; its not even that 2 different people from my group talked to 3 different people who work there and confirmed all information numerous times. We loved this place and will go again! We went with a 2 yr old and 5 yr old and they can't stop talking about it. The staff is really friendly and very accomodating. Its a very relaxed atmosphere. The only reason for the 4 stars is that they only have a porter potty and I am extra finicky about bahtrooms. But am willing to bear it! :) read more

First time ever going to Lake Berryessa. The guys were great at explaining everything and gave us good tips on how to have a fun and safe experience. They did a solid walk around of the boat and jet skies prior to us taking delivery to identify any existing damage of the equipment. They made it a really easy and convenient rental experience.
