The food was not as good as we thought it would be. Which is really unfortunate because we drove like three and a half hours just for it.

The food was great, The group I was with enjoyed it and had no issue getting it in a timely fashion. Decent prices as well. I was a bit disappointed with my milkshake because it was so thick I couldn't even drink it. It took a good 20-30 minutes in order for it to melt enough to the point where I could actually enjoy it. My biggest issue here the lack of professionalism by the staff. There were a couple of employees in there not working and just fooling around with their friends while the one lone cashier was taking orders. That kind of irks me because I know what it's like to be in that situation where you are the only one working while everyone else slacks off. It just looks bad IMO. read more

Awful...just plain awful. First off, the drive-thru took 20min. I ordered a double quarterpound cheeseburger with just ketchup and cheese...First I got a chicken sandwich. Remembered Sonics from the south and wanted a drink so drove out of my way to find one. Service was slow, then we were told we had to wait, then we were told it was cash only--people don't tend to carry cash now--then instead of completing the order we were told to wait again while they served others. This SONIC has really bad service and can't handle taking customers while prepping any food. I waited at the drive thru for an excruciating 10 minutes. We went on a Monday evening around 4:30. We placed our order then heard the cashier tell people behind us that they were no longer taking orders. It was then we noticed that the restaurant was FULL of people NOT eating. Apparently, they were all waiting for their food which did not seem to be coming out of the kitchen. Like at all. The woman next to us said she was waiting 25 minutes for a milkshake. Since we were the very last to order of a large group of people still waiting on their food we decided to ask for a refund, which was granted. Waited till now to try and for the crazy crowds to stop when they first opened. Just another burger joint with a few twists. I'd place it right alongside your average McDonald or Burger King. The exception might be most of the employees try to be extremely helpful as compared to those other places. Went to this sonic about 3 or 4 days after it opened. Yes there was a little bit of a line but that is to be expected when a new chain opens up in the area. We waited about 25 minutes to get a spot at one of the car hops which i thought was a reasonable amount of time. Food was good i ordered a a foot long hotdog and some tater tots, a small order of jalapeno poppers, and an orange cream slush. Service was very fast (about ten minutes for food) and they kept coming around asking if we wanted more sauces, napkins, or utensils. overall i liked everything i ordered, i just wish that they would use an all beef hotdog in the foot long hotdog as the hotdog tasted very cheap and rubbery. I tried Sonic back in Philly (before they closed) and enjoyed the variety of food & drinks. Flash forward and a new location, and I was overjoyed when I learned that Sonic was coming to Albany. When they opened last July, there were minor errors, but the business was getting started. Almost a year later and the errors are getting worse. Drive thru orders messed up, items missing and cold food that should be hot. When you bring it to their attention, no one could care less. No refunds, no attempts at fixing their mistake. After today's fiasco, I'd rate this place at 0 stars if I could. read more

We tried this tonight as we were over in Latham. Decided to do the car hop thing they are famous for - they were not on roller skates like they had been in the past. Server was incredibly nice and friendly which was a great change of pace from the usual fast food experience. For some reason there was a hair net hanging up on the order machine in the stall which was a tad off-putting. We got the combo called the brown bag special which was 2 cheeseburgers, tater tots (or fries), and soft drinks - the bill came to like $10 which was very reasonable as the burgers were big and had tomato, lettuce, cheese, mayo, ketchup on them - I haven't had tater tots in 100 years - they were great - we were reviewing the menu and they have a lot of great prices and a drink "happy hour" in the afternoon where slushies are 1/2 price - additionally, lots of different ice cream things that were inexpensive and they even have breakfast options. I had no idea. It is a sodium-packed junk food fix place but hey, every once in a while.... read more

Let's see, I Sat in the Drive though for 46 minutes, 20 minutes to order, 26 minutes to get to the windows for the food, for a place that is supposed to be "fast food" it's kind of a joke. After we got our food and pulled away we discovered they gave no condiments nor did they offered any, considering they had 4 employees just standing and doing nothing in the drive thru window I'm not sure how none of them could remember to put thing like these in the bag, pulled over in dennys parking lot, walk inside and had to wait an additional 10 minutes to get some ketchup because apparently they can't trust there customers and have this available in the lobby. Also this sonic is VERY small compared to other sonics, there is only 10 Spots for car hop service, with such few locations in the area and huge demand for the product they should of put more thought into this location, The food taste similar to burger king, but there ice cream blasts are good. I'm from the west coast and have been to several different sonics, by far the worst experiences yet. Can't say I will be coming back. read more

I got a hamburger and it was cold, not warm at all in the mozzarella sticks were overcooked, the employees here too young to be working there and very immature and were giving free stuff to their friends. McDonald's is better fast food then this. And you can't even sip a milkshake here because the straws are too thin. read more

I visited Sonic in Latham today (July 7th) and after much anticipation of good, savory food, I was disappointed. The Texas bacon and cheeseburger was not to my delight. The burger was cold, the lettuce and bacon weren't crisp and the Texas toast was soggy -- not toasted crisp or buttery, My son's cheeseburger was abnormally small (we were frequent visitors at Sonics in the Carolinas so we are used to larger sandwiches and we do consider ourselves to be connoisseurs of Sonics). Our fries were cold and our limeades were served warm (No Ice!). The logistics of the parking lot were ridiculous and considering the hype that has driven so many upstate New Yorkers to the iconic Sonic franchise, I wondered why members of management chose to occupy 2 (two) spacious booths inside to obviously monitor P&L and other aspects of business logistics, versus allowing the space for patrons to sit and attempt with eagerness to enjoy the food from the newest food franchise in the area. It. Was. Awful. I am a retired state correction officer and I've had better food in prison. I haven't gone to a sonic since I was in the Army and was curious to try it again. My wife and I mars that trek to Latham with high hopes. We should have saved the gas. EVERYTHING WAS SUPER SALTY. I had that double cheeseburger and my wife had that Footlong hotdog. My first time at Sonic was in PA, it was nice to have one around here. Food is good, a bit sloppy, but still tastes great. If you want sort of messy fast food, which is fine if done right, Sonic is a great place to try. read more

In all honesty, the food here is "decent" if you want something quick. I have eaten at many Sonic Drive throughs throughout my regular travels across the nation. When something new and exciting comes through this region, it tends to be over hyped (remember Krispy Kreme earlier this decade?) and they usually fail to meet said hype. I'll take this place over some of the other fast food places in this region but if you think you've died and gone to heaven, this is not your place. Better than McDonald's though. read more

American Dog very good, Sonic cheeseburger with bacon was not bad, tots w/cheese & chili not great/mushy & chili needs more of a kick; plain tots were ok, pickle O's not bad but need a bit more spice, onion rings pretty good. Stopped here on a whim today between doctor appointments. Tried one of the new little sourdough grilled cheese sandwiches, I selected the one with the burger but no ketchup. Something about ketchup and cheese do not go together for me...unless it is old school Mac and cheese with ketchup and little pieces of hot dogs, but alas I cannot eat that any longer. Anywho, the sandwich was just the right size, a little bit more than half a sandwich that you would make, at home, with store bought bread. It was tasty and cheesy and had the right amount of beef Patty. The bread could have had a bit more of a crunch to it, but that is a personal preference. I also ordered a vanilla shake. I now know for the future to opt for it without the whipped cream (nasty) or cherry (spoiled). The shake itself was fine, if not a bit too thick, but good for a scratchy throat! read more

So this was mine and my families first time at sonic I got to tell you I was not impressed the food was good but the waiter or waitress forgot my order at least half when I went up to the counter to address my order or lack there of, the person went in the back room to ask question and never came back. So, I just went back for breakfast and no lines existed which is awesome. I have never had Sonic breakfast thought I give it a try, I order bacon egg and cheese toaster and caramel java chiller. The sandwich was not bad, but nothing spectacular! I could have made it at home better. They can't hear, don't get the difference between root beer and root beer float THREE TIMES, then hamburger?, no cheeseburger, fries, oh, you mean combo meal, no, I don't because I'm not getting a drink, I'm getting a root beer float. Food is halfway decent, however serving speed is radically inconsistent. Sometimes it's a 2 minute wait, other times it can be upwards of 10 minutes. All in all, the drinks are good but it's a poor-mans McDonald's. read more

Was so excited for this to open and they were a huge let down. The service is extremely slow and the food is put together very poorly. The second time we went when it wasn't packed, it took over a half an hour for one hot dog and a burger with fries. if you have all night and wait for cold incorrectly made and or undercooked food with terrible customer service, then this Sonic is ideal ! I've literally waited over 90 minutes before receiving a correct order, on average the wait is about 45 minutes if you pull into a booth it go into the restaurant. The manager is clearly hates his job, when I brought up these issues he started screaming at the clearly terrified female highschool aged employees. His abuse continued to such an extent I was severely uncomfortable, ironically none of my problems had anything to do with the staff he was ripping into. Being from down south I love Sonic. Couldn't believe we were finally getting one!! I have to drive an hour so I am hoping it was just opening month bad luck. We placed our order 2 dogs, 2 burgers, 3 tots, 1 fry, 2 Dr.Peppers, 2 Diet cokes. After 45 minutes we asked an employee if we could at least get our drinks, and was told no. What is the hype? We finally made it to Sonic ... and what a disappointment - we found a car park area ... to our surprise we didn't order with a car hop, it was through pushing a button on order screen - the print on the screen menus was so small we had to get out of our car to read it ... we ordered essentially a cheese burger / fries / soda combo and a hot dog / fries / soda combo ... cost over $12 and it took forever to get - once we got the food was cold. I should have pressed the button again and send it back. Will never go there again ... 5 guys or Smashburger are much better ... and if you want a "car hop" experience, go to Lake George and try A & W ... it's far superior! read more
