Super friendly owner. I called them directly for my order for a Stromboli (buffalo chicken). I was given a time of 30 mins. They're near my job, and I left early to drive over. I walked in and was greeted warmly, and advised 10 more mins which was great because I was very early. Let me tell you, the Stromboli was huge, the baked dough was incredible. The dough had a nice caramelized and crunchy outside, and it was so soft and perfectly baked on the inside. The only thing I wish was that they did not use breaded chicken for the buffalo chicken. But that's my personal preference. It came with a side dipping sauce. I had requested hot. The sauce did not come across as hot for me. It had a nice tangy yet sweet flavor. The inside of the place is a typical takeout, small dine in area pizzeria. Nothing grand about it. The kitchen area looked very clean and that's the only thing I look for when I stop at a takeout pizza spot. Check out was fast. They do accept cards, and their register is also the card processor. I hope they clean up the outside of the building because the sitting area outside is rather lame. There's a broken picnic table, and a lot of debris around the side entrance. One of the employees was standing by the side door, smoking a cigarette while on his cell phone when I arrived also. Other than the unkempt outside area, I would definitely recommend this place. I will be going back and trying more of their very extensive menu. read more

Ordered a calzone from Big Nic's Pizzeria and it was honestly one of the better ones I've had around here. Crispy outside, loaded with filling, and actually tasted fresh instead of greasy. You can tell the place is improving under new management -- cleaner, friendlier atmosphere and the staff actually cares about the food and customers. Big Nic's is under new management and it really shows. The food was delicious, fresh, and clearly made with care, and the people working there were super friendly and welcoming. You feel comfortable the moment you walk in. I've seen a few negative reviews that don't match the experience I had at all. If you're thinking twice because of those, I'd say give it a try yourself. New Management. Pizza was TERRIBLE. As soon as I opened the box, I knew something wasn't right. Old management took pride in their pizzas. Not this new squad. Quality of toppings have gone down and there's less. The sauce is gross. The pizza was misshaped and cut haphazardly (although that's cosmetics, it speaks to the lack of attention to detail). I ordered a large margherita pizza on Sunday afternoon. When I arrived to pick it up, I was informed that they had burned the first one but were preparing a second one to replace it. They were very apologetic and offered to let me have both pizzas, with no charge for the burnt one. They showed me the burnt one and since it didn't look that bad I said I would take it (if I didn't, they were just going to throw it out). While waiting for the replacement pizza to bake I used the time to scope the place out since it was my first time there. One of the pizzas they had available to be bought by the slice was a veggie one and it looked very tasty....I'll definitely try that another time. Also while waiting they offered me any beverage I wanted out of their cooler, free of charge. They also gave me a free order of garlic knots with accompanying sauce. Between those and the 2 pizzas, I left there for enough food to feed a crowd. And the best thing is, the pizza was delicious. The excellent crust was covered by a very generous layer of mozzarella cheese with dollops of pizza sauce and strips of basil leaves on top of that....all in all, the best pizza we've had locally and we've tried just about every place in the area. read more

Everyone should know about an outstanding food or dish. Places are full of a solid burger or even a 'regular slice' which certainly has its time and place. The Pizzaboli or what every they call it is AWESOME. It's a delicious on any scale but goes beyond. It's huge. I'd estimate 6 big slices plus 3-4 calzones or Stromboli (depending on the fillings) In One! I'm my house we have a no red sauce team and a red team. The pizza satisfies one and in our case, cheese, ricotta and broccoli did the other team. (Sauce on the side). PERFECT for a party too. It barely fit in my car! read more

Stopped in for a quick lunch slice for my son at 11:30am - they had just opened but had many slice options available. Very busy prepping for the lunch crowd but very accommodating. My son's go to slice is cheese, he was very impressed with the portion size, taste and price as compared to options near St. Rose. Brought wife on a Friday and although they ran out of the fish fry (7:00pm) and calamari is tough to get many places, they put together a small broccoli for me and a slice of cheese for her - very quick and courteous. She commented on the overall cleanliness of the kitchen and waiting area, and she enjoyed the pizza too! Will be back. read more

We ordered a couple times from home. Eh. My salad was on the bottom of the bag with a box of chicken wings on top. The chicken wing juice leaked into my toss salad which was warm from being in the same bag as steaming wings. Warm tossed salad? No. The wings were ordered extra crispy. They weren't crispy at all. We have been getting Nic's Chicken Parm special at least once a month and it is a great deal. That's the extra. It's quality food at any price, consistent in every way. The portions are always the same so you never have to wonder if you might go hungry. The salads are amazingly fresh which almost never happens with take out salad. We have never gotten home and found out there was something missing. The orders are always complete and packaged well. The staff are friendly and courteous on the phone and at the counter. We haven't sat down in a restaurant in over a year. It's been tough but Nic's and a few other restaurants that have maintained their quality standards consistently have made it bearable and we are appreciative of their efforts read more

Came here on my lunch break, and paid 10 bucks for 2 slices and a drink. The pizza was really bad. Hate to say it. Didn't finish the second slice. It was So THICK. And huge, and not New York style pizza at all.... the sauce was awful. And so was the cheese. This was literally more gross than Ellios pizza. Also it would be great if they were a little bit more mindful of people who are on their lunch breaks and not take there time to cash people out!!! I got a pepperoni slice and a bacon chicken ranch slice, both TERRIBLE. Also there was no ranch on the chicken bacon ranch, but I did find a few pieces of ham..... Also, the girl behind the counter was cooking and taking people's money. She made a burger and sprinkled pepper on it while it was on the grill and then dropped the spatula on the floor. Ordered a 4 cut pizza no sauce only cheese, black olive and pineapple. Not once but twice wrong pizza. Received 2calls from Big Nic's. First call the person started the call with "hey I made two pies and what's the Issue." First pie was red sauce, pineapple, black olives, green peppers, and red onion. Second pie was red sauce, red onion, pineapple and black olives. They tried to tell me that I was lying about my order. Extremely rude the entire time! Person on the phone told me I was rude. I was at a nearby hotel for a workshop, and local Yelp friend Rob recommended Big Nic's, because it was new and delicious. He forgot to mention just how large their pizzas are. A group of us ordered an assortment including salads, sandwiches, one Sicilian pizza and two of their 23" pizzas. I went over early to get menus because our hotel didn't have any. The staff are quite friendly. We had to use a hotel cart to help the delivery girl unload the pizzas. The slices for those huge pieces are unbelievable. Someone held one up and I said, "That's not a slice of pizza, that's a pepperoni necktie!" All in all, a delicious find. read more

I remember when this place first opened, the pizza here was unforgettable. I used to tell friends it was a hidden pizza gem in Colonie. But lately (over the last year or two) it seems to have become kinda forgettable. I think it's that they seem to overcook the pizza. You know, when the cheese starts to get those dark spots and become plasticy and the crust is too crispy. I hate that kind of pizza. Reminds me of high school pizza. Big Nic's used to make it just until the cheese was melted and gooy with no dark spots, and the crust was chewy but still a little crispy. That's what made this pizza so good. That's the pizza that used to hit the spot. But I haven't seen a pizza like that from here in a couple years now. I wanted to believe it was just a one-off but I've consistently received an over cooked pizza every time for a while. It's not bad, I guess. I've definitely had worse pizza. They're just not what they used to be. Even their calzone I got there was not very memorable. Waaaay too much cheese. I actually ended up taking cheese out to eat it. Hopefully they change something. Pretty similar to your average frozen pizza. Bit overly thick slices, not a lot of flavor. Already has that "been sitting around all taste", if you stop in at noon. Sauce is okay, cheese is okay. They're huge slices, keep that in mind. You might regret buying two when you only needed one. You may or may not care: the employees use their bare hands to pick up and move your slices. They'd be better off investing in a couple tongs or gloves for the sake of the customer not being grossed out. Likely not going to hurt you, of course, but tongs or gloves are standard today when working with ready-to-eat foods, and hardly hurts convenience. read more

I ordered Chicken Bacon Ranch stromboli pizza and it was UNREAL. The Stromboli had extra cheese in it, and it was amazing.

About a year ago I wrote a negative review of this restaurant based on one bad delivery experience. I have regretted ever since & should have done this revised review a long time ago. Big Nic's is my favorite pizza restaurant in my neighborhood. I usually order pick up & pizzas are always on time. Most importantly the pizza is great. There are many pizza places I live near (Colonie Center area), and most are pretty good, but none compares to Big Nic's. Pizza's are always yummy and of generous size. I sometimes have trouble getting through on the phone, but other than my one bad experience, they are the best. I also have ordered catered food and it's been pretty good. The only negative on catered is that their ziti sauce wasn't up to par with their other foo, for my taste anyway. They do deserve 5 stars. read more

Ordered the Buffalo chicken pizza and philly steak hoagie. I am from Buffalo, NY and I can tell you this was the grossest pizza I've ever had in my life. My son thought it tasted sour. It was a grease soaked, sloppy disgusting mess. And the philly hoagie was like chewie beef on the biggest hoagie bun I've ever seen. Ordered three subs for lunch at approximately 10:45am they said they would be delivered by 11:45. At 12:00 we called them and they said your subs will be there by 2:00. They said your subs left for delivery at 11:30 but we had a big order that needed to be dropped off first. So our roast beef subs were sitting in a hot car for 2.5 hours. No apology or anything!
