I do not understand the reviews complaining about the food being cool, small portions, not as good as in the past, poor service, and untidy restroom. Our experience today was not any of that. At 11:30, the restaurant was at least 80% full (both rooms), and our orders were taken quickly and food arrived hot in a short amount of time. No errors. Orders ranged from eggs over easy with grits to burgers to kids meals to Crispy chicken tenders. Five Stars for -- Excellent, attentive server named Callie! Round table near window Dining area had low noise level Biscuits were moist and fresh Hot crispy tenders - not greasy Tasty Dips-- Country and Honey Mustard were excellent (Looked up copy cat recipe for Country!) I've ordered takeout from Cracker Barrel many times, but this was my first time trying their steak, and it will definitely be my last. I paid over $26 for a New York strip, and it was absolutely terrible. The meat was so tough.... it was like shoe leather. I could barely cut it, even with a steak knife. It was also full of gristle and fat, making it extremely unpleasant to eat. I was starving, so I forced myself to eat mine despite the poor quality. My husband, however, refused to eat his at all, and ended up throwing it away....which was frustrating because we don't believe in wasting money like that. To be fair, the vegetables were good and the fruit was fresh, as usual. But the steak was a complete disappointment and not worth the price at all. Do yourself a favor, skip the steak. If I want a decent steak for takeout in the future, I'll be going to Outback. Cracker Barrel really missed the mark on this one. read more

This was the worse dinning experience I've ever had. My party of seven had several issues with our food. From beginning to end. From charcoal burnt steak , spiting out human hair inside biscuit... seasoned rice was so hard , it was doubted to had even been cooked every vegetable except the carrots tasted of chemical. Very nasty. The ham was so hard But some people in my party tried to deal with some of these issues , just not eating it. It was not our waitresses fault. But they need to hire different cooks! Sad to report that this place has gone severely downhill. The service was good but the food was terrible. Cornbread tasted like canola oil and nothing else. Biscuit tasted like nothing and was so dry. My side of carrots had 5 total baby carrots. Food looked nasty and was soaked in oil. Felt so sick after eating. Could not eat much of the food due to the insane amount of oil. Soda was good. The ambiance at Cracker Barrel is always loud due to the open seating so no issues with that since I knew this was the case. What happened to the Cracker Barrel I used to love? This is so sad. My wife and I visited cracker barrel this evening and were very disappointed. NY strip steak should not be loaded with salt. Steak fries sitting it the grease were not fun. We can't forget about the corn bread, only one word (dry). I did not need to hear from the server that they had only one cook in the kitchen. Advice to anyone considering eating here at 7 p.m.: DON'T. We arrived about 7:30 p.m. on a Thursday. I went specifically for a turkey dinner, which it turned out was the daily special. And they informed me they were out of turley. My wife inquired about the daily soup - which we were both planning to have - and we were informed they were out of ANY and ALL soups. So, we spent time looking at the menu and both decided on chicken dumplings. The waitress came back the second time and informed us after ordering - you guessed it - they were out! Then she listed - finally - other things we were out of. So, a half hour after we arrived, we finally ordered something they had in the kitchen. What we were served was fine except for the biscuits, which were cold. If a chef is doing a one off or a seasonal dish where availability might be limited - like fresh catfish - or something that takes long to prepare (prime rib), I understand why one might run out. Can't say I am use to being told the restaurant has run out of turkey, chicken, soup and several other items on the menu all at the same time. The story isn't over. Throughout the entire meal the waitress was cleaning the floor around us. The combination of a metal upright dustpan repeatedly hitting a hard floor and chairs being dragged across it for entire meal was jarring. I've given maybe five bad restaurant reviews in my life and we eat out 2-3 times a week. So, it was that disappointing ... and it will give me pause about going there again. In defense of the waitress, she was waitressing, cleaning floors and apparently working in the kitchen (she mentioned my salad was held up because she was cutting lettuce for it). I have a gluten allergy and simply wanted to order a salad with non-gluten chicken strips that are on the menu. But would have had to pay an extra $5 to have gf chicken strips even though I wouldn't be getting the chicken that came with the salad nor the croutons. We enjoy browsing the gift shop, and usually walk out buying something. Tonight my family and I went to the Cracker Barrel in Clifton Park around 6 PM. They were closing at 7 for an employee holiday party. We were seated quickly, and our waitress was pleasant when taking our orders. While we were waiting, we noticed customers at nearby tables complaining about their food, which was not a good sign. When our meals arrived, we understood why. One family member had ordered pancakes, which oddly tasted like salt--completely off and basically inedible. Another family member ordered mashed potatoes and gravy with their entree. Both the potatoes and the gravy were cold, and the potatoes still had the shape of the pan they were scooped from, with no attempt at presentation. We also overheard our waiter say that they would not even order the eggs there, which was concerning. Even worse, the cook was quoted as saying that if customers did not like the food, they could go into the back and cook it themselves. The manager did not seem concerned about the quality of any of the plates leaving the kitchen. She was not checking dishes as they went out, and she did not address complaints from any of customers. Your typical Cracker Barrel, with the only difference being it's in NYS, so the people in the general area might be rude, grumpy, and downright obnoxious. It's not like that when you visit one of these places in the South, where most people are super nice. Staff at this location were nice despite being from NYS, and the food is your typical grub from this franchise. I do wish when you order pancakes or French toast, they give you a little bit more syrup rather than just one bottle in a shot glass-type mini bottle. Never get my delivery order right. Everytime I order the chicken fried chicken, it NEVER comes with the gravy it's supposed to. Very disappointing every single time. I wanted some comfort food. Marie Callender's used to make a lovely chicken fried chicken dinner with corn on the cob. This was not as good as that. The chicken was okay it's a big breast there were two of them they had a lot of crunchy coating on them they were okay. The gravy was congealed. At first I didn't think they gave me white gravy I thought they only gave me brown gravy. I actually tried to do the order online and didn't work so I took a screen print of the fault order that didn't go through and send it to my roommate. He said he showed the girl the picture the order was supposed to be chicken fried chicken corn on the cob mashed potatoes and fried apples. When he got home there was no corn on the cob. If they were out I don't know why she didn't say "will nibblet corn work" to him. I don't understand. But there were some Beignets I didn't really want them. So I started off with a corn muffins I don't know how you can ruin corn muffins but they did. My roommate said it tastes like rancid oil was used. And I feel like that aptly describes it. The mashed potatoes were mashed potatoes. They were nothing special they could have been worse. So they were okay. The beignets they were not good they were doughy and they just tasted like old grease coated in sugar. I definitely don't feel like I got my comfort food. I don't think my roommate had any issues picking it up. I definitely had issues ordering it. I don't know why it wouldn't take the order. Twice I tried to go get it to order if there wasn't something available it didn't say this is not available try something else it just said there's something wrong with your order. So all together I'm making this review so I never ever ever order anything from Cracker Barrel again. I gave it one stars cuz of chicken was edible and moist not horrible and the mashed potatoes were edible. I didn't want edible I wanted something really yummy and comforting though. This place surprised me with how cheap the food is and how much you get for the price. I came in here with 4-5 people and were seated immediately. We ordered fried chicken, shrimp, steak, with side of mac and cheese, fries, chicken tenders and coleslaw. The amount of side dishes you get with your main dish is insane to me for the price. The mac and cheese was creamy and flavorful. The fried chicken was also very good. The steak was however very chewy and lacked flavor. The shrimp was salty and the fries were dry. My husband and I do not live anywhere near a Cracker Barrel, so when we go downstate we so look forward to stopping and getting our favorite meals. We look forward to the walls covered with old antique looking things that I remember as a kid at our grandparents house and garage. We were so very disappointed !!! This place is a DISASTER!!! Gone are alot of the decor, and the food was HORRIBLE. We had to send our food back 2x. It was cold the first time it came out. Second time it came out it was so burned black it was unedible. The corn muffins that were always so moist and sweet, were tiny hockey pucks, with no taste at all. To start, I love Cracker Barrel and this location is as good as any other. I think it's safe to say that Cracker Barrel is one of the best chain restaurants there is. In light of this, my go-to meal here is the Grandma's Sampler. The meal comes with two pancakes, two eggs, meat, fried apples, and hashbrown casserole. Moreover, the pancakes are delightful. They are fluffy, flavorful, and not too heavy. Plus, I love the syrup out of the little bottles. In addition, the eggs are standard diner type eggs, nothing amazing. On the contrary, the fried apples and hashbrown casserole are scrumptious. To illuminate, the fried apples are sweet and enchanting. Likewise, the hashbrown casserole is savory, creamy, and the topping adds a nice crunch. I would also like to mention that the gift shop at Cracker Barrel is awesome. The shop has a lot of cool nicknacks, furniture, games, and candy. As things stand now, Cracker Barrel has good breakfast and a nice gift shop too. read more

My husband and I got a waitress named Ashley. She barely checked on us an acted like we were inconveniencing her. At one point, my husband tried to stop her to ask for a drink because she only brought him water. She said "whoa whoa" and rushed away, completely ignoring him. This was the most disrespectful thing I have ever witnessed while going out to eat. She wasn't busy either. I watched as she went into the kitchen. I only noticed that she had one other table. I classify Cracker Barrel as one of the restaurant chains I enjoy for breakfast, lunch is acceptable, and skip for dinner. My mom and sister like the chain more than I do; their menu is more suited to my mom's restricted diet, and my sister likes their fish. I generally try to eat breakfast at these restaurants, because I figure it's really tough to ruin breakfast (was that foreshadowing???). When we were seated at lunchtime, the first thing our waitress did after greeting us was apologize for, and wipe up, the messy table, covered with crumbs and a few tabs of paper from sugar packets. It was even worse at the table next to us, as I saw crumbs and butter/grease on it, and it was only cleaned up - wiped off with a damp towel - by the HOSTESS as she seated customers there. The best part of the meal was mom's Wednesday lunch special, their chicken pot pie. This is a really good deal, freshly baked, and filled with a lot of chicken, carrots, peas, and potatoes, with very little sauce. I can see why this is a popular item, and if I'm in a Cracker Barrel on a Wednesday in the future for lunch, I'd definitely order it. I opted for a breakfast special featuring pancakes, bacon, scrambled eggs, and hash browns. I expected better. The pancakes were pretty good, and the bacon was very good (thank goodness they know how to prepare bacon!!). The hash browns were barely lukewarm, as were the "scrambled" eggs. Their idea of scrambled is to let the batter cook on the griddle, then cut it up into graham-cracker pieces and fold them over, as if the word "scramble" isn't in their vocabulary. My first cup of coffee was awful, again lukewarm and very bitter. It took our server 2 promises to get us refills and extra cream, which finally came with our meals. But the second cup of coffee, a fresh brew, was much, much, better. The prices are reasonable, and if you like what they offer, you'll undoubtedly enjoy dining here. Always a great last stop to any traveling. The Sunday dinner special - fresh and juicy battered fried chicken breast always great...a welcome home feel. :) Personally pair it with their green beans and a sweet potato (slight up charge), so good. You can't pass up a bite of their biscuits and corn bread. :) Portion is so big that I always have lunch/dinner the next day...and it tastes just as great on the reheat. Staff all the way from door, dining and exit were very pleasant. This location like the many others have a country store with old fashioned candies and some of the most interesting home decor type items. Personally like picking up some kind of Duck Dynasty or John Deer gear for my brother 'John' of course. Definitely hits the spot everytime and highly recommended that everyone give them a try if they haven't already. read more

Living on Long Island, you don't have close access to one, but I forgot how good southern cooking is, even if it's three hours north of New York City fried chicken was extra crunchy and for all intense and purposes slaps. The meatloaf tasted, homemade, and paired well with mashed potatoes and gravy and steamed broccoli. I forgot how cheap the pricing can be once you leave the greater New York metropolitan area and I definitely got my moneys worth. Not happy with this place. I placed a curbside order through the app and after putting in the order it said it'd be ready at 5:28 pm so I assumed that's the time I would go to pick it up. But then I call them around that time and ask if it's ready yet and they tell me it was ready at 4:28. What the hell??!! You people send me a waiver saying it'll be ready at 5:28 and don't even bother to call or message me when it was done. UNACCEPTABLE!!! Luckily they were able to make another plate for me and it'd take about 15 minutes so I head over there and fill out the information for curbside pickup and tell them I'm there. Of course I had to actually call them asking about it and actually telling them I'm here and waiting 20 minutes or so for them to bring it out. This is absolutely ridiculous!! Then when I call them about and one of the staff asked if I wanted to come in to get it or have it taken outside? I mean HELLO!!! It's called curbside pickup for that reason you're supposed to bring the order out to the customers ordering through that. And then after that I had to wait nearly 5 minutes for someone to bring my order out. I can't help but get excited when I see a Cracker Barrel while on a road trip. It's like finding hidden treasure while on adventure. Only the gold is mac n cheese, golden pancakes, and other fried varieties. Ah, where to start. As I come in, my consumerism in me is satisfied by the little shop you pass before the actual restaurant. As I am a dust collector, I always end up buying something. Service is usually decent considering that it is always crowded. What can I say, I always find myself in this joint every time I'm around the area. Not feeling great, I ordered online, prepaid and did curbside checkout. Received the text with link that my order was ready and they would be right out. That was at 8:58. I noticed someone parking in curbside spot #4 - and later realized it was an employee. Since they aren't using the spots for curbside pickup I guess that makes sense! After sitting in my car for ten minutes I figured they are pretty busy so I'll save them some steps and grab my food since it was ready. Once in the store I'm told my food is not ready and they can't control those texts. Confused, I ask "was anyone going to come to my car and tell me??". 30 full minutes go by with me standing there and others picking up their to go orders. At this point I can't leave since I prepaid and sadly left a tip. I left at 9:40. While I'm waiting another customer says "I've been in my car 20 minutes, is my order ready?" I let her know they weren't doing curbside that day and felt no need to inform anyone. No manager apology, no discount, nothing extra as they finally brought my food out which I discovered was ice cold which means it sat somewhere a very long time.
