Sons of Aloha Movers responded with the most affordable rate for my specific needs + delivered excellent, quality service. After agreeing to their rate, the owner (Chris) and I were texting immediately to firm up details (he's very responsive). During that conversation, I mentioned my only concern was the negative reviews I read about. He mentioned transparently he was dealing with family and personal matters the previous year that's since been handled. Otherwise, he was very clear on his insurance coverage, timing, pricing, and necessary details. Because of COVID19, finalizing my home purchase became a nightmare with my move-out/move-in date changing. Chris was extremely flexible, understanding and adjusted things to meet my needs. Today we had movers Sons of aloha helping up move our furniture & belongings. Move was from one Apt on the 17th floor to another Apt down the street on the 4th floor. They should up as scheduled at 945am and finished by 1245pm. The larger items was neatly wrapped with their padded mats. The move included over 25 boxes along with random smaller items like lamps, golf clubs and such. Point is, the owner Chris sent 2 professional movers. As a faithful Yelp Elite Reviewer, I always refer to Yelp for reviews and choices and has always had successful results! Here is another review which i am pleased to write on Sons of Aloha Moving. Christopher is the owner and very personable and able. My husband and I needed someone which we can rely and felt comfortable to help us move from our old 2 story home of 32 years to our new 1 story home. Chris came over and we walked him through the packed boxes and how we organized each room. He quickly understood and saw the layout and what we organized the move. We had a process to our move which will help us unpack at the new location. Chris emailed me his estimate and it was best estimate compared to the other estimates by far. What i found is other estimates would charge AND ADD additional charges like rental use for their equipment, hourly/fuel charges from the moment the leave their ofc location, etc. Chris just charged us the straight hourly and fuel, and none of the additional. On the night before our scheduled move, we had to call Chris and postphone the move a week later. Chris was totally understanding and got back with me in 2 days with another date. Day of our move, Chris provided us total of 4 men (including himself) and charged us or 3. Anthony, Zero, and Travis were all wonderful and former classmates/brothers of Chris. Brought a truck with a lift. Provided extra boxes (if needed), protective quilted blankets for furniture and fragile items. They immediately went to work with Chris overseeing the move. When heavy furniture or boxes from our 2nd floor were transported to the truck, they LIFTED it never scratched the stairs or hardwood flooring. The guys were all funny, positive, and high spirited. When they had a question, they always checked with Chris. My husband and I are very organized and was laid to rest to see how efficient and effective these guys operate! The guys are young, strong, respectable, and with a great sense of humor. I cannot say enough how pleased we were especially trusting them to handle an important event as in moving our household. If you want an honest and reliable company, i give them 5+ stars SONS OF ALOHA MOVING. If You try to contact Chris and he is not able to call back immediately, try again. WARNING! Sons of Aloha Movers. BEWARE I hired them to move a $75,000 printer. They dropped it multiple times and destroyed it. I've tried for weeks to get their cooperation in repairing or replacing my machine. For the last 21 days, the owner Christopher Dickerson keeps telling me it is a slow process. I've contacted their insurance "broker". The broker tells me he is the middle man between Sons of Aloha and the insurance company and they will not tell me the name of the insurance company that insures Sons of Aloha Movers. I've reported them to the Consumer Protection Agency and the Better Business Bureau. I believe they are operating without insurance. Please see the response below from the owner of the company Christopher Dickerson. 12-22-18 update. I've asked for the name and number to their "attorney" and they will not give it to me. It must be a secret like the name of their insurance company 01-03-19 I spoke to ACW insurance group today and I've been informed that Sons of Aloha is not insured. 01-03-19 I spoke to the owner Chris Dickerson and his response is somebody will be in contact with you. Got referred to this company by a good friend of mines who is a die hard cowboys fan, normally I never would listen to anything he says, but today I was glad I did!! First of all the level of professionalism and courtesy they showed me was excellent, they even gave updates and notifications prior to the actual planned move date. Second of all their rates are really affordable and really fair, I mean there was even enough to tip the movers when I've received the bill (yes tipping is a thing for just about anything and greatly appreciated). Best... Move... EVER!! Reasons why... - Super fast quote reply from Chris (really polite and fast responder to any of my questions. Always on top of communication from the day to the moving estimate to day or the move) - BEST RATES compared to MULTIPLE quote requests from other company's. It was Flat rate/Hr + flat $40 travel fee and that's it, no hidden stairs or driving time fees. Didn't even have to do an annoying taking-time-out-of-your-day-walk-around-the-house estimate. - I had junk I didn't want to bring to my new house (couple small sofas etc) and it was No problem, just an add on fee and they took what ever I didn't want to the junk yard from the truck AFTER the move-in to my new home. -All of the Movers were AWESOME! I had the exact same issue as Kayla R. And Erin R. experienced. I had to email Chris to confirm with him a few days before our move when it should've been the other way around. Good thing I did bc he didn't even have me on the calendar even though I reserved and saved our texts from the month before. That alone made me really uneasy. We reserved our elevator at our complex in Kailua from 8am-noon (only four hour max options are given). Chris told me the guys would be there between 9am-10am. I reiterated to Chris that we have to be done with the move by noon. They didn't get to our complex until 11:30am! Every time I called, I was assured they were on their way or getting gas or stuck in traffic. Chris was nonchalant with no sense of urgency. We had no other option but to wait for them and beg our property manager to extend the elevator time in which we incurred a $150 elevator use late fee. To make matters worse- the three guys were sooooooo slow! Not being slow in a cautious/careful manner but just slow as in walking back to the unit from the van, taping up stuff, standing around looking at things that needed to be moved, talking story to each other. The stars are only because nothing was broken or scratched (we had really HEAVY bulky furniture) and the brand new hardwood floors and walls at our new place came out unscathed! So much anxiety since we had THREE flights of stairs and fortunately no one got hurt. Overall we just have to look at the silver lining. We tipped each guy $40 and bought them late lunches bc we were ecstatic for the day to be finally over and no one wants bad vibes at their new house. Would I use SOA again? Solely on the owner's lack of communication, (making moving more stressful than it already is!!) the answer is NO. I was very disappointed in the lack of accountability and integrity shown by Sons of Aloha movers. I needed four items moved from my home in Kapolei to a house on base in Honolulu and SOA seemed like a great choice due to reasonable pricing, availability and friendly customer service. I was scheduled for two movers to arrive at my house between the hours of 1-3pm. I made the drive from Honolulu to Kapolei and stood by for the movers starting around 1230, to ensure I would not be late for their arrival. Around 215 I became curious of the approximate estimated time of arrival for the movers, as they still haven't arrived or given me any sort of notifications of when they would be arriving. After contacting one of the drivers, I learned that a previous move was taking longer than expected, but that they were in Ewa beach getting gas and would be on their way shortly. At approximately 3 I began calling the owner, Chris, to find out when his crew would be arriving. Each time I called, Chris would state he was contacting his crew to get an ETA and would get back to me shortly. I was becoming very impatient, as I had now wasted 2 and a half hours of my own time waiting for his crew to arrive, but Chris was very sure his movers would be there soon, and to stand by. I called one last time around 415, which was now almost four hours of my time wasted, to see where his movers were. Chris stated he would have an emergency moving service on their way immediately. 15 minutes later I received a call from the "emergency moving service" asking if I would be willing to wait until tomorrow to do my move, after I had been sitting around for nearly four hours waiting for my scheduled move to arrive. I cancelled my services and booked with JF moving company who called multiple times before arriving to ensure I had everything I needed, and who's movers were extremely attentive and courteous throughout the entire move. While it seems as if Chris, who is the owner of the moving company, was apologetic for the situation, he was unable to maintain accountability of his workers for upwards of 3+ hours, wasted a great deal of my valuable time and money from driving my car 30 minutes out of my way to wait for him. This was completely unacceptable, very unprofessional and showed a complete lack of regard for his customers. As a customer I was committed to receiving excellent service from Sons of Aloha, which is why I chose their services out of the other options listed on yelp, but it is obvious I did not receive the same amount of commitment and dedication in return. I will not be recommending this company to anyone wishing to have their items moved, but would recommend JF movers who stood by the commitment they made to show up to my house in a timely manor and move my items for me at a reasonable price- which Sons of Aloha did not. read more

-Bad Communication -Showed with only two movers when stated that he would send three especially when one of the movers was his first day on the job. Slowing down the job since the other mover had to keep telling him what to do. -Movers stopped at 7-11 to eat while charging me $125/hour. -Tried charging me and extra hour for travel time to the job and travel time back to their yard when website clearly states they charge only from when they arrive at location. -Didn't inform me that they write down all your credit card information and take it with them to charge later. When I refused they let me pay by Venmo but tried to charge me a extra 3% fee. Total charge was $696.00 to move 1 queen bed with headboard, 2 nightstands, 1 dresser, 1 tv, 2 lamps, 1 sofa, 1 small table w/4 chairs and 3 small boxes and move out one sofa. I waited to see if they would be honest about stopping to eat and take it off the bill but they didn't. I had to bring it to their attention. I'm not just talking about the actual service they provided (moving a TON of my kids crap, a bed, and a dresser) with a VERY last-minute's notice - but the communication (with the owner) from start to end (both with my brother and I) was clear, professional, but also still with much ALOHA. If I could, I'd give an additional star, cause my little ones kept getting in the way (not on purpose) while the moving guys were going in and out grabbing boxes, but these guys were FAST, EFFICIENT and made it from Point A to Point B faster than expected. I was contacted on line by the owner. Thought this was a great opportunity to support a black business. Got a quote by phone and thought it was reasonable. They missed the first appointment. The second appointment they came and pack everything up, but then tripled the price of the quote. By this time all my things were packed and I had no choice but to pay over 1200 to move things to storage. The storage place they recommended is an old bunker. The company had a person who cursed me out and called me a bitch. Accused me of owing more. I had to show the partner my debit showing that I paid in full...the partner apologized and was kind but it took multiple calls to try to arrange seeing my things. Found out half my stuff was dumped outside of the bunker. Long story short...it was the worst experience I have ever had with movers. read more

I needed a couch moved into my house and we couldnt manage to get it in ourselves. We thought we had to have it hoisted over the balcony and where other companies were going to charge me the two hour minimum of $400-$500 dollars he told me he would do it for a flat rate of $175. I had a very difficult move with an extremely steep driveway. So steep that other highly rated Yelp movers actually refused the job! Chris had the idea to use a smaller shuttle truck to get things up the driveway. The big moving day got off to a slow start due to miscommunication. I was pretty stressed because I was on a tight deadline to move out of the old house and get it cleaned. However, the SOA crew, led by Kasi, were very efficient and worked hard from start to finish. They were careful and respectful with my items and my home. While waiting for the shuttle truck to arrive, they hand carried several items up my 100 foot driveway! I told him what needed to be moved, and from that list, he estimated how long it would take (two hours) and explained that the hourly charge would best fit me. On the moving day, Chris and Joey did a great job. They were on time, even gave me a heads up 30 minutes before the arrival time. They were friendly and polite, and very professional. Everything including my digital piano made it to our new house safe and sound, and damage-free. My dining table gave them a little headache along the way and took half an hour longer than the estimate but I'm not complaining at all, they still saved me a lot.
