Miss Jan treats the kids with respect and provides them with a rich and supportive environment for learning. The group functions as a little society, with clear rules and traditions and mutual support. They learn how to behave in a group and how to focus and work on a task. The older kids help the younger kids, and this spirit of helping is carried over from child to child. My 14-year-old daughter recently mentioned that she was currently covering some concept at school that she remembers having learned back at Miss Jan's! My child was let go of 2 day care centers because they said she was a "PROBLEM" she was only 2 when she started attending Dina' s day care and so far she is doing very well. The staff did not give up on my child like the other 2 facilities. They are very dedicated and care about the children under their care. We tried to find out what the monthly payment was Because my son had to pay half and his ex-wife would not give him that info she would just verbally tell him what he owed and the owner would not give my son any information on the prices. He…read morepreviously attended a Montessori school in Modesto and I was very hopeful that the Merced school would have a similar approach and standard. It quickly became apparent this was not the case. I did not feel my child was emotionally supported at the pre-school, there was lack of attention on the students during play time (I saw two students physically hurt each other while behind the teachers back), and I personally had to take away two dead cockroaches from a group of students who were playing with them during recess. The teachers refused to let my child eat his lentil chips claiming they were unhealthy while simultaneously offer Ritz Crackers and plastic wrapped processed cheese slices during snack time. During the first week, I picked my child up from day care, only for him to show me a massive 4 inch cut down his arm. To my surprise not one of the teachers could explain how or when it happened. My child attended for a total of six days before I decided that his well-being was not prioritized in the school. I will say, there are many people who love this school for their students. It's possible that we got a very unfortunate look into their summer programming. Ultimately, I did not feel my child was safe and decided to find another pre-school.

On the tour, our child's teacher reviewed the curriculum and educational rationale, and it was clear that there was substantial thought to all aspects of the child's day. I started my child in the toddler room, and the best thing I can say about it, is that each day that he goes, he's excited when we pull up to campus, and every day when we pick him up, he tells us he had fun at school. We get thorough descriptions of his day, what he liked, and where he struggled. Excellent communication with parents. Snacks include local organic produce from our local CSA. Ms Sonya and Ms Samantha run a great classroom and I would have no reservations making the same choice again.
