I also followed up twice with office staff prior to my appointment about the intake forms that I was told would get texted to me and both times they acted annoyed that I was asking; my second follow up a man on the phone laughed at me and said the text would be a few days ahead of the appointment but it never came. I even arrived early on purpose for my appointment and told office staff I never received the texted intake form and again they seemed annoyed. They confirmed my cell # and said they'd text them right then for me to fill out but then they had me sign just an arbitration form then almost immediately put me in a room early and I never got that text to fill out the intake forms and the provider came in early. The provider I'm sure did the best they could with zero information and health history for me, but honestly it was a wholly unproductive appointment and I 100% regret coming. I cried in my car after my appointment because I was so frustrated. I waited weeks for this appointment and missed work for this appointment and spent time preparing by sending and ordering records and it was all for nothing. My suggestion is bipass the office staff completely and go old school and bring hard copies of your referrals and any health history/medical records and make your own list of things like medications and hand them directly to your provider so they actually know info about you and why you are there.

I had a comprehensive hearing test before meeting with Dr Shohet to discuss my condition. I cannot praise this practice enough from the initial checking in to checkout. The whole process was extremely professional and the staff were very polite and courteous. Regarding my appointment with Dr Shohet he diagnosed fluid in my middle ear and drained it before inserting a new tube. We both agreed I needed to review my current hearing aids (which I had obtained from a major retailer) as I have moderate to severe hearing loss. I am looking to schedule an appointment with the audiology department and feel very confident they will address my issues going forward.

I have seen at least 5 ENT doctors before so I've gotten fairly good at catching ENT red flags and…read morethis practice has by far more red flags than almost any other practice I've been to. Here's what I've observed so far over a course of 3 months: 1) I was first referred by my PCP in March and couldn't get an appointment til April. Long wait for appointments, sure ok. Minimal wait time in the waiting room tho so that's good. 2) Most of the time you call during normal business hours, no one picks up. Supposedly they are only closed for lunch from 12-1 but it would take me days of calling at 10am and 2pm to reach someone. 3) Over the last 3 months, I was only ever scheduled with the PA, Phillip. He was PHENOMENAL, helpful, kind, and a huge reason I kept coming back. He was so considerate he even made sure i got in quick so I wouldn't get charged for parking. Guess what? By my 4th visit he was "no longer with the practice". I hope he quit bc if they let him go that's pretty a bad business move on their part lol 4) The two girls at the front desk are ok but Miryam the Surgery scheduler is incredibly rude. I had been open about needing my surgery to be treated with urgency bc I wasn't sure how long I'd still be eligible for insurance. They wouldn't even schedule me until my insurance approved everything so I had to wait weeks to even schedule. Ok fine. But when my insurance actually approved the surgery she kept saying it didn't. She even had the audacity to try to blame/gaslight me and say she didn't send the referral for it earlier bc I was "confused about my insurance". I wasn't confused I just didn't know how long I'd still be eligible for! She never even made an attempt to try to schedule me even before I told her about my insurance. So I filed a complaint with my insurance for negligence and refusal of care and ALL OF A SUDDEN I'm getting contacted multiple times over the course of days (by text) saying that I was approved and there were several surgery appointments available for me to take, appointments that were even sooner than what they had told me before. I'm calling BS on that. It seriously got to a point where I had to ask her "Do you guys even want to do this surgery?" Bc it felt like I had to force them to want to take my business bc they kept pushing my appointments far out and giving me the run around 5) Mind you after 3 months and multiple appointments I haven't even seen or MET Dr. Vakkalanka at this point and she's the one who I'm supposed to trust to operate on my unconscious body and conduct a complex revision septoplasty with turbinate reduction ?? Not even her coming in to say hi hello for two seconds. Extremely scary concept to wrap my mind around. 5) This Yelp page claims they have onsite CT imaging and they do NOT, they sent me to an imaging center for that procedure. That could've been due to my insurance but it's worth mentioning. 6) Did I mention the parking isn't even free after 20 minutes so appointments are rushed to accommodate this? To put into context how poor the service here was, I contacted another ENT to take my business to and I already have an appointment scheduled in 4 days. I had my primary surgery in 2020 that apparently didn't permanently fix my deviated septum in my right nostril or enlarged turbinates blocking my left nostril and these issues have worsened over the years and every day I am abusing Vicks inhalers and Vapo Rub just to get through the day. I can only sleep on my left side but really I have no airflow through either side and I have valve collapse. And I could've been getting help sooner and breathing again but I was trying to be patient and understanding and give the benefit of doubt. Don't waste your time and energy like I did, it's not worth it!

Following is my history, and review of the team at Newport-Mesa Audiology Balance & Ear Institute…read morein treating imbalance, along with hearing loss. IN SHORT: On Imbalance Issues: A Solid Ninety Percent (90%) Improvement. On Hearing Loss: I can hear things now that I never new were there. IMBALANCE ISSUES: In June 2021 I had a head injury to the right side of the skull with damage to the mastoid air cell causing imbalance, along with loss of hearing to the right side. I could not walk in a straight line, nor climb stairs without caution, and climbing a ladder was just dangerous. Come late 2024 and I was referred to Newport Mesa Audiology Balance & Ear Institute by my general practitioner, Dr. Philip Kouros of AltaMed Health. Initial interviews with Dr. Howard Mango led to diagnostics and a treatment regimen for imbalance with Dr. Monica Muncy and Dr. Kaylee Kimura. This included tailored vestibular rehabilitation therapy (head / eye exercises), repositioning maneuvers (inner ear), along with lifestyle adjustments such as dietary intake. Later, I was treated by Dr. Damara Marshall for hearing loss, and fitted for custom hearing aids. As I went through the imbalance treatments, separately I began neurology diagnostics by Dr. Dallas de la Vara of UCI Health. Dr. de la Vara was also interested in the imbalance treatment, and outcomes I found. I kept him updated as the months of work pressed on. The first two months were ... hard work, arduous, as 'my brain' was ... retrained to cope with and compensate for the above injuries. The regimen incorporated both on-site and at-home treatments where you log online, and get to work. Somewhere around the third month or so my treatment evolved to incorporating an updated AR "augmented reality" headset, along with updated software program. This is where the brain retraining really took off and progressed. The months of two-dimensional work, was put into ... reality mode with the three-dimensional AR treatment, whereby my brain seemed to put it all together. Over the past year the results have been stellar. A solid, and steady ninety-percent (90%) improvement in my balance. Maybe even 95%, seriously. I walk straight, use stairs, and climb ladders ... with greater ease, and much safer. HEARING LOSS: After the June 2021 injury I was provided hearing aids, but they seemed ineffective and over time I stopped wearing them. At Newport-Mesa Audiology I had the opportunity to work with a skilled audiologist in Dr. Damara Marshall. With proper testing she was able to show me in concrete terms, how my particular loss of hearing could be remedied with proper hearing aids, properly adjusted to compensate. Additionally, Dr. Marshall was able to explain that with appropriate hearing aids, this would help stave off further hearing loss. In clear terms, use of proper hearing aids would help ... save what you have. What's nice is that Dr. Marshall can fine tune each hearing aid separately, and adjust as needed over time. Importantly, as I need to keep my hands free, Dr. Marshall was able to find hearing aids which would work my cellphone thus allowing for hands-free calling. SUMMARY: My lifestyle has improved tremendously since being 'blessed' with treatments for imbalance and hearing loss by the Skilled and Professional TEAM at Newport-Mesa Audiology Balance & Ear Institute.
