Usually, we would just wrap it ourselves, but this was a special occasion. My boss sent me here, knowing they they usually do pretty stuff. I called in advance to see what time they closed, then asked how much it was to wrap a gift. They responded that it started at about $12. Hmm, why anyone would pay $12 to wrap a gift is beyond me. Little did I know, this was only the beginning. Having walked in, I gave them my gift and told them I would be back (I had to go to nearby Sweet Lady Jane to pick up a cake). Before I walked out, she asked if I had a budget. Knowing my boss wanted it real nice like, I said, just please make it look nice for a bridal gift. They said okay and didnt quote a thing. Didnt warn me for my impending doom. I left thinking it would be around $20 or so, which would be outrageous in my mind, but whatever. I came back to pick up the gift. I asked how much it was. I'll pause now for dramatic effect. $73. Homey say what? $73. In this economic climate. $73. For paper, a ribbon, and a topper. If you are going to charge me that kind of coin, shouldnt you like give a heads up. Or something? Anything? If you like to keep warm at night by burning money in the fireplace, by all means, come here. But if you are like the rest of us, I'd stay away. read more

What an adorable little store! Filled with all these beautiful things like cards, paper, gifts etc. I went in to have something wrapped and the employee could not have been nicer and more patient. We discussed options and he really took his time to help me. Prices are sky high but it's definitely worth it if you are getting someone a special gift. I visited Soolip back in May, and I'm still thinking about it. What a beautiful, beautiful store for all things paper - cards, handmade paper, journals. Every item is a little piece of art, mindfully selected, and unique. The handmade papers are great for an art project or as wrapping for a special present (my best friend who lives in Southern California wraps my presents in paper from Soolip - does she know me or what?). They do their own letterpress designs and can create custom cards or announcements for you which are sure to be orginal and personal. A great choice for wedding announcements that you won't find anywhere else. I spent a long time in the card section picking out letterpress and other cards for occasions yet to come. I still have some of these purchases which probably speaks with my unnatural love for great cards. Can't...let...go....too...pretty... Yes, I am sick about paper products. i LOVE this store! Everything about this place just screams out ADORABLE! and OOOH!! and OMG HOW CUTE!!! Most, if not all of their items are HANDMADE and she gets her paper from all over the world! My favorites are the ones that come from India because the quality of the paper is so strong and durable, not to mention the beautiful, unique, and vibrant one-of-a-kind colors that they come in. They like incorporating natural/organic material from nature so if you order a box of cards, guaranteed that not one of them will be the same (all unique in their own special way). I've been visiting this store for many years now and everytime I walk in there, it always evokes a desire in me to make scrap books or send cards to everyone I know because they're so fun and different! Soolip is by far my favourite stationary store in LA. Beautiful, high quality products. It's expensive, yes, but my god I feel great when I leave. I just got my wedding invitations done at Soolip. They are AMAZING!!! I can't believe how great they came out. Exactly what we wanted and more! My fiancé and I are so excited and can't wait to hear from our friends what their reactions were! I know they're all going to say something about them. Everything here is just stunning. It'slike paper porn. Gorgeous imported papers (banana leaf, Japanese lace paper, great prints, etc.);TONS of cards mostly in beautiful letterpress; sealing wax and seals; imported ribbons and threads. In short, a paper lover's dream AND everything you need to make your own beautiful invitations. Which is a good thing, because when I came here to Soolip's in-house letterpress service to order my save-the-dates, yes, they had beautiful things, but 100 save-the-dates were also over $2000. Their portfolio, while gorgeous, is not stunning enough to justify such prices- you can get cooler, more original stuff from local designers and pay at least somewhat less, or, as I mentioned, do it yourself. (While the prices here on the raw materials are not insane, if creating in bulk I'd go to craft stores or eBay.) read more

I visited soolip for the first time today and was impressed by the attentiveness of the team! I was immediately helped and they found the perfect box and ribbon to wrap my gifts. I even got to meet Wendy who is the shop owner. She's just released a book on gift wrapping so it's obvious that this woman knows what she's doing. I will warn you that the prices are steep and had the wrapping I had gotten done was actually on my account I probably would have gotten my friends the nice box and silk ribbon as the gift, no gift required. read more

Soolip caters to the economic and social stratus that doesn't flinch at spending $60 to gift wrap a children's birthday gift. As you can imagine, those people aren't typical the Yelp user demographic either. I, being poor and also sane, (heck, why even give a fancy gift to a kid when all they want is the giant box it came in) am only going to review Soolip for the reason I came in: I heard they carried unique stationary (see: postcards) and the stuff to make them. They do carry lots of very beautiful and cool cards, especially some nice stuff by local artists and vendors. I was sorely disappointed though... the selection didn't extend to postcards or postcard sets. Not a one. This review is from about 3 months ago, so they might change up their offerings, so better luck next time. I did purchase some paper, though. I hand-make postcards and I found some beautiful handmade paper that was recycled. I only bought a few sheets, because I have to test paper strength through the US Postal system before I make a lot of cards. I got a sniff from the lady at the front desk, who seemed too busy on the computer to ring up my measly purchase. That's why they're only "A-OK". I would come back for a special occasion card, esp for Happy Engagement or Wedding Congrats cards. read more

The experience of walking the red path through the stores is really adorable...so much so that by the time I arrived in the bungalow I was unable to resist picking up a piece from their Audrey collection- a glossy white portable file with leather handles. My mom has a secret drawer stocked with the perfect card for any occasion, and as a little girl I vowed that I would someday have my own secret card drawer, but alas... I am a grown woman and I still find myself madly scouring supermarket shelves of saccharine Hallmark bullshit for meaningful declarations of love at the very last minute. A visit to Soolip is like correspondence therapy; I can happily spend hours sifting through their treasure trove of quirky letterpress cards, silky ribbon and sumptuous paper. I didn't care about paper before I walked into Soolip... now I'm enthralled. The cards are hilarious, artistic, thoughtful, and unique. But the most striking thing about this place is the quality of every single thing - goods and service included. Sean (I really hope I'm remembering his name correctly) literally could not have been more helpful. I was looking for an item that they were out of and he called three other stores to see if they had it. I was considering ordering online getting something else (it was a birthday gift), but because of his service I decided I wanted to buy something, anything, from them. In the end, I actually got some great stuff and to top off an already fantastic experience, Sean took extraordinary time and care in wrapping the gift. I found a scrap of really great paper-backed-suede wrapping paper and he let me have it for free. If I need to impress anyone with paperie, then this is the ONLY place I need to go. read more

We walked in hoping to order custom thank you cards and the woman working at this store was so rude that we just turned around and left. Soolip, to me, seems like a great looking store. It seems truly as if one person with that particularly nice taste just brought a bunch of things that looked pretty together or separately and charged a lot more for them. Now, I'm not particularly new to stationery. But, the quality for the price here is just. No. Additionally, they do not really have a good idea of the products they sell. It just looks good so they have it. I asked these people about the inks they sell here, and they really don't have a clue. It's just that this one is metallic, and the other is normal. I mean, I don't even know that much about inks, but I do know quite more than them. Anyways, to demonstrate how much they rack up the price, you can buy a bottle of J. Herbin ink for 9$. But, at Soolip, they sell it for like 15$. No way. This stationery store is just.. they don't carry the basic essentials of GOOD stationery. Where is the Rhodia, the Clairefontaine? Not present. They sell stationery that LOOKS good because they just know how to pick it based on looks, not so much quality. I don't know if I am making any sense at all, but when I think of and buy expensive stationery, I expect a certain quality. Soolip sells stuff that is expensive unreasonably. So I guess, in short, these are the problems I have with this store: 1) Unreasonably overpriced (can't say I wasn't expecting that) 2) Uninformed staff 3) Not a great selection of stationery But, I guess I can't say that I didn't expect it to be unreasonably overpriced. I was just expecting something else, and they didn't fill it at all. The staff, however, is friendly and the store has a nice selection of cards and wrapping paper. Regardless, go to Flax. They have expensive but beautifully bound leather journals that'll cheer up any writer in your close circle of friends or that family member that likes to write and jot down ideas. They carry some Uber fancy pens and are willing to hook it up with gift wrap for any gift purchase. Truly a precious little store, and as pricey as its neighborhood might indicate. We brought in a wedding banns to be calligraphed. They provided good advice, good service, and a good product in the end. Staff were always friendly and fun to talk with. I went to Soolip to have a wedding gift wrapped. When I consulted them about what I wanted they said it would probably come in around $40. I said that was fine just please don't go over $50. When I picked up the gift my bill was $72.50. The explanation was that it's difficult to estimate how much material is needed and the ribbon was one of their most expensive. I didn't request the most expensive ribbon they had, I only requested they not go over $50. They also had the dimensions of my gift in advance, so why should it be that difficult to estimate how much material is needed, after all these are professional gift wrappers right? After I complained they reluctantly agreed to knock it down to $60 so I'm giving an extra star for that. However, I won't be going back here. read more

Walked into the store, smiled and said hello to one of the employees who looked right at me, deadpan, and said nothing. No one ever came to ask if I needed assistance, and no one said goodbye to me when I left (without buying anything). Maybe I wasn't wearing the right clothes? They have some very nice, unique merchandise, so if you're looking for something special and don't want any sales clerks to look at or talk to you while you're shopping, I would recommend Soolip. Yes, the markups can be pretty astounding for certain items, but you are paying for the owner's good taste. The staff is really nice and they will pepper you with ideas if you ask. It's been way TOO long, but I recently visited Soolip in the Pacific Design Center. I picked up my new 2016 hand printed Phases of the Moon calendar from Germany! I purchased one a few years ago and haven't stopped thinking about it since. It's a must have for anyone that likes to follow the lunar cycle & I love the gradient shades of color that adds mood & a little sparkle without being too feminine. And now it's 50% off! Yipee Some things can be a little pricey, but the owner has good taste, a sense of humor & love for all organic, as seen in the selection of gifts and papers. Finding non-cheesy, aesthetically pleasing card is hard to come acrose these days. I found out about this card store through a close friend of mine. It is in a great location ( Pacific Design Center. The staff is helpful and attentive. My reason was to get a letter for my first girl friend. The staff showed me the selection and i was thrilled. I felt like a kid in a candy shop. I finally found the card i've been looking for. It is nice to see a business thrive for organic, textile and beautiful products. I would give it one million times the amount of stars I gave it if I could. Keep it up Soolip!! read more

The design and texture of the cards, the small details, the embossed lettering, the beautiful paper and other offerings are like a fresh wind of sensual hand-crafted pleasures in a world dominated by smooth and homogeneous corporate design.
