This place used to be decent but it has really gone down hill. Food is so bland and flavorless

We have ordered from here a few times over the years, normally the food is just average but it is local so we like to support when we can. The service is always pretty friendly for the most part too. Tonight we ordered and the food was actually inedible. The steak sub was made with large steak chunks that were cold and hard (normally subs are made with shredded steak, which would not have been a major deal if the steak had actually been edible). The grilled chicken was like rubber. the meat from both our meals tasted not fresh. Both my fiancee and I have been feeling extremely nauseous and we only managed a few bites. It was beyond disappointing. i do not write this review about a local place lightly and truly wish our experience had been different. read more

Tried for the first time after visiting the Falls and this will be my new go to in town. We got 2 pizza slices - which was cooked perfectly and had a TON of toppings! Not greasy at all, the crust was very nice as well. buffalo chicken fingers are standard but had a nice crunch to them which I appreciated. Didn't have a good first experience. But sure what makes this place stand out against any other pizza shop ? Inside is kinda icky too.

This used to be the only really good place to eat or have food delivered from, for those of us who live in Townsend. It has gone through some changes this past year, and we've seen a new online ordering system which is MUCH worse than the old one (no descriptions/information, easy to place the wrong order, hard to tip online) and have paused ordering from them for the near term. The quality of food also changed. Before, the pizzas were reliably GOOD, with medium crust and quality toppings. Subs and wraps were what you would expect: simple, quality fare. Over the course of the year we learned not to order the pepperoni pizza, because that typically came overcooked/slightly burned on top. There is no hamburger pizza option in the new online system, so we tried ordering sausage. Sausage used to be fine -- similar to hamburger, little bits of sausage; but now it's sliced (sweet) sausage. I have an aversion to anything sweet on a pizza, so that's a no-go. The pizza crust is about twice as thick these days than it used to be. I don't typically mind a thick crust pizza, but if I wanted that I'd go the Pizza Hut pan pizza option. The thicker crust just feels *heavy* on Sofia's pizzas, though they are still adequately cooked and the crust isn't bad, per se. The sauce and most topping options are still good, fresh ingredients from what I can tell. I've never had a completely inedible pizza from Sofia's (and I certainly have from their competitor: Patriot Pizza). The last chicken salad wrap I ordered from Sofia's a couple months ago was the clencher. It was so dramatically gross and unappealing, that we've stopped ordering from them, hoping they'll get a new cook. It had slimy onions in vinegar sauce all over a sweet chicken salad. Who does that??? It turned my whole family's stomach when they saw the contents of that wrap. This is still probably the best pizza option in town if you simply must order pizza (which is the only delivery food option at ALL in Townsend) ... Try ordering Sophia's Dream pizza; it's one of the better choices, though sometimes the chicken is a bit gristly. The Hawaiian pizza is another good option, as are any of the veggie toppings. Not all bad, just not what it used to be. Here's hoping they can reclaim some of their former glory and goodness! :) We need good quality food options in the dining wasteland that is Townsend. read more

Great pizza, calzones and the subs are packed with meat! I'm a regular, I often get the steak bomb and it never disappoints. An occasional spinach and feta calzone, or chicken parm Calzone. Salads are always fresh and delivery is prompt. Can't say enough good things about this place. read more

A neighbor recommended that we try this pizza place as it was the best around. It's located in a outdated strip mall near the center of town. The restaurant itself is small and outdated, but fairly clean. There are a few tables to eat in. The staff was super friendly, especially the guy making the pizzas, whom I assume was the owner. It is your typical pizza place menu with various pizzas and calzones, subs, dinners, salads and sides. There was a cooler for drinks and I did not see any beer. We each ordered something different. My daughter had a small cheese pizza. My husband had a small buffalo chicken pizza, which he said was the best he ever had. They did not put blue cheese on it, which he likes, I prefer blue cheese on my buffalo chicken pizza. I had a spinach and feta calzone and they did not skimp on the feta. This was one of the best spinach and feta calzones I've had. The only reason I gave it a four instead of a five is because of the condition of the restaurant itself, but do not let that deter you from ordering from here. Total disaster of a shop. First and last time. Got there and they couldn't figure out which items were mine and half weren't even done, 2 subs were done totally wrong and to top it off a DOG was hanging out in the kitchen. This is my favorite place to order from. I'm mildly obsessed with the fried dough and potato skins, and my family loves the pizza. The only reason I'm taking one star off is because I ordered flan or a pudding type dessert once and it had mold on the top. It was clearly not homemade and had been in the fridge too long. It has been several years since I had been to Sophia's because past experience was so dismal. I decided to give it another try and hoped that things had changed. Nothing has changed. The pizza was extremely greasy and tasteless. The lettuce in the salad was wilted because they put hot chicken on top of the salad greens and then closed it up inside a plastic container, basically steaming the salad greens. Have been a customer since the very first opening, and I must I receive the freshest salads I have ever enjoyed eating. Amazingly fresh foods, ALL AROUND, there is certainly a Chef there, not just a cook for the talent her is not overlooked but complimented as I have called back just to thank them for an amazing meal, This Italian Restaurateur is putting out dishes restaurant quality which is seen by the owner himself. This is a definite go to for family, friends, gatherings and date night. I have never been disappointment and I order weekly and often even more-so. The only thing I would change, is I would love to eat, minestrone, from this Chef, and other soups from this establishment. As A lot of people now consume soups, with salads, and buffalo wings as an entire meal for the family or just yourself. Excellent quality, fast deliveries, organized and trustworthy is what I want when doing business with a strong confident company. Bravo, Sofia's for getting me through some really touch times, I never had to worry about the dinner, pizza, heck anything with this really great crew of wonderful people. Today was my NON cooking day... and we desperately needed to go food shopping. I'm out of Mac and Cheese which was last Friday's dinner! LOL!!! Even for lunch the cupboard was bare, no lean cuisines, no canned pasta or soup.... no nothing. Sophia's to the rescue! Food: * For lunch, working at home, I took a moment to order the meatball sub with provolone, toasted. Very very tasty, meatballs were authentic, sauce was very good, served tosted on a large sub-roll. Ordered the wife a chicken cutlet sub. She enjoyed every bite. * For dinner I ordered a large cheese pizza, garden salad, and onion rings. The onion rings are definitely unique but in a good way. Wonderfully amazing... we finished them all. * The pizza was a big hit with everyone in the family. I got the plain cheese to set the standard. * The garden salad was OK... It very fresh with iceberg lettuce, cucumbers, grape tomatoes, carrots, and a few extra greens. I would of liked more romaine or other greens vs. iceberg lettuce (which the salad was made up 90%). Dressing is served on the side. I loved the balsamic dressing. Overall, I don't think I would order the salad again though. Online Ordering: * Online ordering was VERY VERY easy, secure, and efficient and was happy that there was a fee for this and that like the other place in town. * Lunch dinner shows up in your doorstep within an hour. Delivery: * I love that they have an online option that I can order and pay for things all at once! This place has NO extra fees like the other place in town does. * The one minor critique I have is during delivery... don't package the salad with the hot onion rings. At first glance this place looks like your typical pizza shop. Stopped in for lunch with my son, he tried the bacon cheeseburger sub, I had the Russain roastbeef, both were tasty. What stood out to me was the bread, very fresh. I will be back to try the pizza for sure. read more

Ate here once, food was pretty good sub shop grub. The bread for my large roast beef was fresh. I walked in and ordered 2 cold subs (knowing cold cut subs take less time than a hot sandwich such as a steak and cheese or steak tip sub) Took 15 minutes for a Ham and American and a Large Roast beef and swiss. I used to be able to make them in under 2 minutes with a properly stocked line behind the counter.... see, having worked in sandwich shops, restaurants and cafes for the better part of 12 years I consider myself knowledgeable on the goings-on of a small sub shop. What I see is a lack of direction, lack of training and serious breakdown in communication between workers behind the line. I chalked it up to growing pains and bumps in the road of a new shop.... so I tried again tonite. I couldnt get through on the phone line! That is UNacceptable in 2013! I had to walk-in to order, where I was met with 2 female workers arguing behind the line about the phone's status. I asked to order a large pizza and a side appetizer... I was told that it would take 25-30 minutes. The food comes out painfully slow.. cripplingly slow. My tenure as a cook and waiter at Bertucci's and other pizza shops tells me that is MUCH too long to be accurate. a Pizza takes 2-4 minutes to dress and 11 minutes to cook! The app was a fingers tossed in bbq sauce, 3.5 minutes in the fryolator with 2-3 minutes of cool down time. These are not estimations, these are years of cooking for a living in functioning sub shops, delis and restaurants. In short, I will give them another shot because their food was pretty good, however one more negative experience with the slowness and I will be going back to Patriot Pizza, though it is farther from my house. read more
