I came Sophie for waxing full legs and arm. My experience was ok there. I had very high expectation from them but service was unsatisfactory. It cost me around 94 CAD and i can still see hairs on my arms. Hairs were not removed completely. They just break from outside. I lived around the corner when Sophie's salon first opened. I was a regular right up until I left the city. If I had of been a Yelp user back then I would have written this review much sooner, but felt compelled to write one now as I realize how rare it is to find a good salon. The space is small, but clean! The prices are standard if not a bit on the cheaper side.. I was always met with kind service - and was made to feel comfortable. They have a good selection of polish colors.. and also massage chairs if you are getting a pedi. I regularly got shellac manicures and pedicures. The manicures lasted 3+ weeks consistently!!!! I went to Sophie's recently after breaking a couple nails and not wanting to wait until my usual nail technician could see me. I was hesitant at first since I am very picky, but Nu (...if that's how you spell her name?) did an amazing job! She totally exceeded my expectations by taking her time to ensure all of the little details were perfect, and she shared some helpful nail tips and knowledge with me. I also noticed the positive dynamic in the salon. A regular customer came in and they treated her like she was family, saying they missed her and had long conversations about what she'd been up to. Staff and customers seemed to enjoy their interactions with one another overall and the male manager made a point to engage in friendly conversation with the clients. The salon itself is small and humble, but relatively clean and organized. I do wish they had more selection for newer gel polish colours, but I can imagine that they would be happy to use one of your own if you have access to a beauty supplier and want to bring in a preferred colour. Sophies nails are the best nail salon I have ever been too. I have been coming here since the month they opened and have enjoyed every occasion. I always ask for my girl Tracy she is AMAZING and always is so pleased to see me no matter how busy she is. There have been many times when I can't get there on time and they stay late to make me happy. NU and her husband run an amazing establishment and I am so pleased that they opened it in the West end. I have been here a few times and I leaves very happy with my fresh feet. I've always walked in easily, accept the summer time... appointment is a smart idea. These ladies do a fantastic and thourough job on your feet. The massage is always relaxing and never rushed. Pleasant music is always playing in the background and they have the usually cushy massage chairs for you to chill out in while they make your feet soft and gorgeous! Prices are quite fair for Vancouver. I usually pay about $55 for a Shellack pedicure with Polish removal, not including tip. On a whim, I stepped in while I was running errands. Don't pre-judge this unassuming place! The two ladies, Michelle and Hannah who did my shellac manicure were both super meticulous and precise. Michelle was really gentle with the mani and looked over my fingers several times to ensure they were perfect. Hannah did the colour, the application was so precise she didn't need to do any corrections around the edges. The place is a tiny bit old but all the staff are really friendly. The guy at the register really had great customer service, always called the customers by name, and many regulars were walking in the door. Prices are also super reasonable. I usually have a good experience here, but this time the woman that did my manicure absolutely butchered my fingers I think she called herself "Lyn", she was incredibly rough and even drew blood - I can't recall ever bleeding from getting my nails done. There's bits of dried shellac paint around the edges under my fingers too . And maybe it's a cultural difference in my understanding of her spoken English, but I didn't appreciate her continually rude comments about everything from my tossing up between two nail polish colours to how my face reminded her of her 50year old client/friend. Truly I was caught offguard by her awful manner and couldn't wait till I could get away from her. The lady that did my pedicure, Jenny was lovely, she did a decent job, didn't cause pain or break skin and I don't seem to have left over paint around my toes. Only takes one experience like this where I leave a nail salon having been cut, had alcohol sprayed in the cut and then polish put on to hide/stop the bleeding, to undo all the more positive experiences I've had there. I'm disappointed with the experience and that I'm going to be looking for a new nail salon. read more

After 4 or 5 attempts, one toe infection and one really bad cut during a pedicure I'm throwing in the towel on Sophie's. I really wanted this salon to work out. They're really bad at keeping on time. This is a difficult review to make: Sophie's does acrylic nails better than anyone I have ever been to. They last easily a month with me not even trying to be careful it's amazing. Price point is good too. However, they have quite literally the worst customer service of all time. I say this and I continue to go there but truthfully if Getting your nails done is your treat to yourself pay $5 more and go somewhere where they are at the very least nice to you lol. Some of the girls that work here are nice others are the very opposite. Either way I've been there at least 20 times and still every time I go there I get a comment like "have you been here before?" Haha Honestly I'm super nice and I try to not take it personal I tip well thinking I can buy their good customer service but nope. It is what it is! Since their Facebook page doesn't have a list of prices -- I wanted to get a price for a shellac pedicure and was wondering if they also charge to remove shellac on my fingers. I've walked past this hole-in-the-wall (my favourite kind) nail place a million times but never stopped in until today. I came in off the street (actually, due to COVID just slightly outside the door) and asked if I could get a pedicure. No problem I was told, and was then asked if I had a mask (I did). My temperature was checked, then I was instructed to wash my hands. Safety and cleanliness appear to be priorities. All techs wear masks and some also have face shields. The stations are separated with plexiglass. I chose my color and had a seat in the amazing massage chair (yes!). The technician started, checking in with me every step of the way, regarding nail shape, trimming, filing etc. She also gave me one of the best leg massages I've ever had (which if I'm honest is the main reason I get pedicures in the first place). The polish application looks amazing. This is definitely going to be my new go-to nail place. Very happy I finally came in! read more

Used to see Lynn and she was super sweet but my acrylic nails would always break after a week or two. I still came back each month because I enjoyed Lynn's service but the last experiance I had was awful. I got my nails done before I was going on a trip. My nails are always long stilleto tips which I am aware break easily but if done right they should last a while. Anyways, so Lynn does my nails and she convinces me to get neon pink. Now what she didn't tell me is that the neon would stain easily so after a few days my nails looked like absolute garbage then 2 nails fell off while I was on my vacation. I was furious. So when I got back I called in the salon and said what happened and that I wanted them fixed. You know what they do? They fix them but make me pay again. Same thing happens to that pair too.. After that I was done with the place. The customer service is horrible. The girls always talk in a different language and it just seems like they are talking shit about you the whole time. I absolutely love this place. I have been around many places for the past few years looking for a perfect salon and this might just be it. I get shellac manicures every two weeks and here they never chip in that time. They also shape your nails perfectly. They are incredibly thorough and take their time with you even when they're busy. Their pedicures are great also not being skimpy on the massage and making your feet feel baby soft. Have gotten my brows threaded here before as well and no complaints there. The prices are decent for downtown and they're just blocks away from my house. They are new but already have quite a few loyal customers. read more

I have mixed feelings about Sophie's. I go there for waxing of upperlip and they are fast, inexpensive and do an amazing job. So 5 stars for that. But I did try having a pedicure last week and it wasn't enjoyable. I always start my pedicures by letting the girl know I am sensitive, my feet are ticklish - as I assume a lot of peoples are...but this fell on deaf ears. I also suffer from Plantar Fasciitis (or Bruised Heel) which makes your heel and arch extremely sensitive. Everything after the cutting of my toe nails was uncomfortable and stressful. I eventually asked her not to massage my feet or scrape them. To boot - the massage chairs have the weirdest settings for the buttocks area (hahahaha, I still laugh when I think about it), if you have the massage chair on, it eventually starts massaging your bum area...and I don't mean just the glutes...it made me jump in my chair!! Anyhoo - regardless of all that (and you can see why I didn't enjoy it), the toe nails looked amazing, so hence the mixed feelings. 3 stars for the pedicure, 1 for the end result, 1 for letting me in with no appointment and 1 for the good affordable pricing. Simply avoid the massage chair bum settings and maybe be extremely vocal about any sensitive areas on your feet. read more

Got a manicure here for the first time. I was not impressed at all. Nails weren't trimmed and filed evenly. One of my fingers got cut really bad (blood gushing out). And later I realized that my other fingers started to sting. I looked closely at my other fingers and realized that the lady that helped me, made small cuts on my other fingers as well. She had cut 4-5 of my fingers in total.... It stings even under water.... Will never go back again. This was one of my worst manicures ever. read more
