Shredded beef bun - to die for!

Amazing casual place for meat lovers! The steaks are great, but also the burgers are amazing. Outstanding is the shredded beef bun, get it you BBQ lovers!

According to my friend, who used to lived around the corner for many years, service has always been a bit hit and miss here. It seems to be the sort of place people flock to for the atmosphere with the food being secondary. Call me old-fashioned, but ... If you call yourself a steakhouse and boast a butchery in the basement, it is just not acceptable to overdo a medium-rare order - TWICE! Not even on a Monday lunchtime ... from the set lunch menu ... I actually started off with one star but just added the second as the offending item was taken off the bill.

Well, what can I say, my first Yelp Elite Event and what a place to have it Things started off with a lovely cocktail,I had the Kiiki Mojito (Rum, raspberry and mint) followed by a varied selection of starters (mackerel pate, gazpacho, prawn cocktail and the biggest artichoke heart ice ever seen). For mains we had the Porterhouse (medium) and Chateaubriand (medium rare)?with a varied selection of sides including fries, onion rings, salads, jackets and greens. Easily the best steak i have had for a long time. Staff really attentive and informative giving us a potted history of Sophie and her husband and the thinking behind the concept. After a decent break we were presents with the desert menu from which we selected Creme Brûlée, Chocolate Browny, Eaton Mess and proper American style cheesecake. Can honestly say this is the best Mel I've had for a very long time - thanks guys will defo be back

This place was very good for cocktails. However this was up until the free offer on Yelp of a free glass of wine or beer. I chose the free house wine came in a short stubby wine glass which looked like what you would get in a staff canteen. This was topped off with it having thick sides, which a wine expert would know makes it harder to taste the wine. Outside this the service was first class and friendly. The waitresses were good, it also cannot be a coincidence that they were all good looking. The upselling of ordering greater quantities gave us the right amount and so was honestly done. Atmosphere is cool, food is decent although some of the types of meat were very fatty. A decent place and the meat had big portions, although if I am going to be critical some types were either quite fatty, or the lean types were a bit tasteless. Perhaps a tastier marinade would help? The salads were lovely and fresh. The chips were fried okay, but not the total magic of perfectly crispy on the outside to seal the flavour in and totally soft on the inside. The deserts have presentation that was good so I just have to forgive, although the ingredients did taste a bit like they came from a supermarket. Also the Eton Mess was meringue with strawberries and probably supermarket strawberry sauce which I believe is not the full Eton Mess recipe. The problem is that with alcohol and service it comes to over £65 per head. It would be good value at 2/3rds the price as the drinks were good, but the food not up to those prices. As a result it is not a place I would choose to take people when there is so much first class food available elsewhere at a lower price.

    The steak .

My friend and I went there for dinner while in Fulham, and were taken aback by the interior, that was the epitome of cool everywhere you looked. We could see why it has a great reputation. We decided that the best way to sample a place we hadn't been before was to order and share every dish. To start with, we went for Smoked beef tartare with kimchi and duck egg yolk, chilli fried baby squid will dill aioli along with ox cheeks with confit garlic and bone marrow crumb. The combination was just great and set us up nicely for the main course. Of course, when in Hanger & Cellar, it would be a crime to miss out on the steaks, so we plumped for 300g of bone in rare breed sirloin and 300g of USDA hanger steak. They were matured, tender and tasted superb. I want all my steaks to taste like this! On the side, we had chips, herbs salt, aioli and then poutine with goats curd and jalapenos to make a real treat of it. The food was cooked with real skill, and the two steaks were some of the best we've ever eaten. Amazingly, we made room for dessert and both eyed up the affogato made of vanilla ice cream, espresso and almonds on the menu. Good choice. Along with the smooth service, it ended the night on a real high note. Can't wait to go back.

Then had the chocolate and orange brownie which was really good. The coffee was not a standard espresso but tasted more like filtered, however a good filtered coffee. Give this place a go for something different, and let's finally make this spot work for a change! :-)

I have to thank that crazy lady who snapped at me for asking if I could have dim sum, thanks lady, really, thank you. What a treat! Roxie is a hidden gem in Fulham, with totally amazing steaks at the most ridiculously good prices. That first night I had surf and turf with fillet and prawns for £15.45, and it was DELICIOUS. The double cooked chips and courgettes were equally tasty. I tucked on to apple crumble with white chocolate ice cream for dessert - and I have to say it was one of the best I've ever had. Because it's also a wine bar, the wine menu is extensive and well priced. And the waiters are knowledgable and speedy but not overbearing. We've been back once since and I had the exact same meal, and it was just as good second tom round. We'll be back for SURE! Maybe NYE 2014 :)

The place as mentioned, wasn't busy and the people serving could have been quicker but I was with a friend and we weren't rushed. I just hope it's faster on busier days. I've recommended this place to family and friends, and would certainly go again.

There's no place that puts a smile on your face better than Jack's Place…read more One of the only decent steak houses left in London that doesn't cost the earth, Jack's place overflows with good, old-fashioned home cooking and top secret family recipes passed down through generations (well, I say top secret. They'd probably tell you if you asked. They're that friendly.) Jack's place has the most fascinating history of any restaurant I've been to. Opened in 1968 by retired boxer, Jack Talkington, it is the epitome of hidden gem. Do not be fooled by how easy it is to walk right past it on the busy York road. Once you step in, you can still hear the buzz from the knees ups they used to have, where Jack would notoriously chop off the ties of the businessmen whilst they weren't looking (Jack's place was and is still not for the stiff upper-lipped). The walls are lined with hundreds of ties collected over the decades like medals. If those walls could talk...well, they practically did. Looking like a cross between a vintage boutique and a war memorial museum, every inch of the walls are adorned with trinkets, well-deserved awards, and framed snaps of celebrities on their visits. If it's good enough for Jack Nicholson, it's good enough for me! Jack's Place has well-stocked bar and a menu sporting a few select dishes; quality over quantity - because spending 3 hours digesting the menu isn't fun for anyone. I would suggest wearing loose-fitting clothes to accommodate the generous portions. I started with their garlic butter prawn special, which I don't usually order, finding it difficult to de-shell a prawn in public whilst still looking mildly human. However, the couple on the next table made theirs look delicious (not only do I read the papers over your shoulder - I perve over your meals from a distance. Can't take me anywhere, really...except Jack's Place) so I opted for the same, made extra special by Angela (Jack's daughter) bringing me a twee little bowl of hot lemon water and a mini towel. Their king sized T-bone steak was cooked to perfection, with a classic mushroom sauce and a decent size portion of chips and veg to go with it. Would recommend: Their pecan and butterscotch cheesecake. Tip: Jack's is an intimate little place that would be great for a first date.
