I was drawn to this restaurant by its social media posts and website, both advertising an immersive Christmas experience with decor set to start on November 4. We planned an evening around it and booked a table with a steep 50-pound-per-person cancellation fee, only to arrive and find... no decor. When I politely asked about it, the staff informed me it had been pushed back to November 14--with no apologies or attempt to make things right, despite this being our main reason for visiting. The disappointing experience didn't end there. From that moment on, the waiter I spoke to avoided eye contact, and we were basically ignored. Despite ordering multiple courses and drinks (as we were too hungry and invested to cancel), we watched other tables get attentive service, while we sat waiting. To make matters worse, the food was subpar. The scallops had grit--a choice recommended by the staff over the ravioli, which we were told wasn't ideal for sharing. The fries with my steak frites arrived cold and flavorless. My husband's Korean spatchcocked chicken was the only redeeming part of the meal: tender, well-seasoned, and flavorful. Still, we spent most of our time observing the wait staff joking around and celebrating a "BIG" customer, while treating us as an afterthought. Top tips: 1. The meal starts with a basket of delicious wheat and white bread and perfectly salted butter. We shared the burrata which was served with pickled mango and tomatoes. Delicious! We have been traveling for weeks and I just wanted a salad. I ordered the Caesar and my husband had a sirloin steak. The salad was perfect-- the dressing is made with smoked garlic and the smokiness was creatively detectable. The steak was cooked to perfection-- I might have stolen a few bites. The good news is, the bread is free. Overall, the food is good, and the ambiance is quite lovely. But let me tell you, coming here during the Holiday Season is a mission. Despite its fancy appearance, it gets very loud around dinner time, so having a conversation means you'll have to strain your voice a bit. The menu isn't overwhelming (unless you're price-conscious), yet it has a nice balance of starters, mains, and desserts. And, the drinks are so varied that you'll be hard-pressed to make a decision. Most of the cocktails can use some work, as the balance is leaning more towards the alcohol side a bit too much; so if you're a wine drinker, go for your usual. Having tried both, I actually do prefer the wine side of the menu, as the selection offers a wide variety of reds, whites, and bubbles that pair perfectly with any meal. However, if you love the taste of whiskey and coffee, the British Coffee cocktail is the way to go. Food-wise, I can never pass up a nice meat dish when coming to a fancy restaurant, so I went straight for the Sirloin Steak with Chimichurri Sauce and a side of Tendersteam Broccoli. The steak is unparalleled; thick, lean, and juicy with the perfect salty finish... I'm only sad it was so small. They also have rib-eye and T-Bone steak, so pick your favorite, and I promise you won't be disappointed. The broccoli, on the other hand, was pretty tasteless, so I would not recommend it. Go for chips or mashed potatoes, instead. Dessert-wise, you have a full menu to choose from, which is not limited to cakes and sorbets. You also have a full roster of dessert wines and digestifs, as well. The service can be a bit cold, but given how much they run around catering to people's requests, you can't really blame them. A special thank you to the Doorman at George for recommending 34. What an absolute perfect break in our day during our recent visit to London, whilst staying in Mayfair. The service was absolutely topnotch, from the moment we were greeted by the Doorman here, to the hostess seating us at a lovely table on the veranda. The location is central to all that one might want to do in Mayfair, shopping, sights and dining. We started with the Tuna Tartare and the Shrimp Cocktail, both absolutely scrumptious, and the sauce with the Shrimp Cocktail was devine. Great minds think alike, so we each ordered the Caesar Salad with Rotisserie Chicken, which was so moist, tender and perfectly seasoned. Scallops were to die for, seasoned very well, cooked perfectly. They came on half shelves, floating in seasoned butter. Steak came out medium/rare as I ordered. Servers were attentive, checking in regularly if I need anything or I am satisfied with the order. Restaurant can get very crowded, noise level is somehow high, but they manage the crowd very well. Prices are on the higher side, think about £120 per person. Location is away from underground train stations, so it will be more helpful to take a taxi to the restaurant. We were recommended this restaurant from a friend that had recently visited London and it did not disappoint. The cocktails were amazing, and they had a great wine selection. We loved the food and the donuts were super delicious. We started with shrimp cocktail and the cauliflower soup. For the main course, my friend had the ribeye bone in, and I had the spatchcock which was super tender and delicious. A bit on the pricey side, but definitely an amazing experience. I came here for their special holiday season, when 34 Mayfair becomes Miracle on 34 Mayfair. It felt magical. The entire restaurant becomes covered in ornaments on the walls and ceiling. I got the lobster truffle pasta and it was ridiculously rich and even more mouthwatering. My cousin got the foie gras and said it was just as delicious. All I can say is if you miss this place during the Christmas season, you missed out ! My boyfriend and I made this our first stop once in London because we are obsessed with Christmas and I just had to check out the decor. I had seen pictures all over the internet of the Christmas decor and it stood up to the hype ! My boyfriend and I wasn't even that hungry so we walked and grabbed some drinks at the bar. I can't speak for the food here, but the drinks were fantastic. The bartender was very friendly and gave up great tips on a few things to do while in London. Absolutely magnificent! Full disclosure, I went to this place for the Christmas decorations and bauble ceiling display! However, I was so impressed with the food that I want to return and try their other menus! This is a white table cloth, fantastic service type of place, it felt really luxurious! The food isn't cheap, but it is fantastic. My friend and I both had Steak Frites. I don't often put sauce on my steak and this steak didn't need it, that's a well cooked steak! The Mac and cheese was delicious and a good portion to be able to share. For dessert, I have the peanut butter bar, which was incredible and my friend had the signature doughnuts. I tried one, they were are fluffy as they look, so so good! Overall, this place is the total package. Good food, service, decor and atmosphere! My cocktail was fabulous, but I kind of regretted the £18 price tag when the bill came!! With 12.5% service charge, I basically paid £20 for three quarters of a flute. I had booked 34 Mayfair for their festive Christmas brunch and to enjoy the Christmas display. We were visiting London for the holidays from California and I made our reservation months in advance. When we got there there were multiple tables for 2 available inside, yet they chose to seat us on their patio in the freezing cold and rain. We refused to sit there, and they refused to seat us anywhere else. What a joke. The staff couldn't have given less of a (insert F word here) either. Six of us attended dinner at 34 Mayfair. We tried to add 2 people the day of, but we were told this was impossible. Thankfully in hindsight. The food was below average in general, and in one case had to be sent back as it was simply inedible. The vegetarian option was a sweet potato burger (A whole sweet potato, lightly battered and deep fried but uncooked, served on a bun.) When the sweet potato burger was sent back they were incensed and asked us "what did we expect a sweet potato burger to be?" The service went downhill from there. Not one of us liked their meal. Wilted, tasteless caesar salad, cold french fries we could go on and on. We were asked if we wanted more wine (we did) and desert (we declined). Moments (literally) after opening and pouring the wine we were informed by someone clearing tables that they needed our table. Five minutes after that, with wine glasses still full and wine in the bottle, we were told we had to leave. We didn't even have a bill yet! Had a fabulous dinner with friends who live in London here. The atmosphere is elegant and chic. Shrimp cocktail was definitely the miss of the night. Apparently in the UK cocktail sauce is thousand island dressing. I learned this the hard way. Salmon tataki was excellent. Venison was so tender and perfect on a bed of parsnip purée. I devoured this dish. Apple pie with cinnamon ice cream was warm and decadent. I loved the feel of this restaurant. It was refined but lively at the same time. Slightly overpriced (comparing to mayfair high end restaurants, it was clearly better than most hotel restaurants but compared to Michelin restaurant level restaurants in the same price range it leaves something to be desired.) but a very good meal none the less. Starter Chargrilled squid and Iberico croquettes were a highlight. Nice smoky sauce, the squid was lovely and easy enough to share, although there was only one croquette. Monkfish with braised octopus was good, the sauce especially. I had the pigeon (always a personal favourite) but at £32 very steep for minimal sides. Pigeon was perfect level of rare but compared to competing restaurants be aware this might not be the best value option. We ordered the burnt carrots as a side, recommended. Cocktails were on par with my other high end favourite bars (Churchill's nearby, and the bar at CUT) with regards to price luckily they backed it up. Mint Julep was excellent and the Carolinae champagne cocktail was nice and subtle. Be aware they charge a £2 cover pp on top of the bill too. I suppose it's very close to a 5* meal but can't help but compare the price tag to similar restaurants and in a city like London it's easy enough to find better value (mostly wrt main dishes, was happy enough with starter, sides and cocktails). read more

Fancy attempt at high end steak falls short. I was underwhelmed by my half inch thick NY strip steak, cooked on a grill that didn't seem hot enough to sear the surface of the meat. Anyone who has attempted to cook a steak medium rare (pinkish red) knows that it's nearly impossible to achieve that with a thin cut of meat. You either have it cooked through or barely seared. The starters might have been the best I've had in London, and the dessert selection is fantastic. Unfortunately for them, the main event is flawed. To cut it short, nothing did go wrong. But let's go through this pleasant evening in more detail. 34 is located in Mayfair, so you have to expect Mayfair prices - an evening at 34 is not a big night out on a tiny budget. I think the restaurant has a very classy atmosphere, there are some nice and some interesting paintings on the walls and a live piano player entertains the diners with some fine tunes. Thoroughly enjoyable. Thanks to a recent wine tasting with Convivium Wine (http://conviviumwine.com/), I discovered a new white wine that I really liked. And when I spotted an Albariño on the fine wine menu, I knew that I had to taste this one. So I asked for the Albariño and it tasted delicious. A fresh and crisp wine, just perfect. But I have to say, it was not the cheapest wine on the menu - yet again, this is Mayfair. Now to the food, I was very happy to get a sample of about four different kinds of bread to begin with, and all tasted good. I decided to get a proper starter and ordered the fried duck egg with chorizo and watercress. What a delightful plate of food! The main was equally great, a tender and soft steak that melted in my mouth and really was worth it. Besides the food, the service also was a treat. The staff were very friendly and nice and simply provided a decent service. When I came in, some were joking behind the counter, and while a few people might find that unacceptable at such a serious restaurant, I found it welcoming to see that they are just people like me who want to enjoy themselves on the job. Maybe I had the best waiter in the world, I really liked him. Perhaps because he said that I selected his favourites, and he might say that to every single guest to make them feel good, after all that's what he's being paid for, but for some reason I believed him. When I walked out, I noticed the open kitchen - another nice feature of this place. While everything at 34 is on the expensive side, I personally think that food, wine and service is almost as good is it could get, and for such an extraordinary dining experience, I am happy to pay a bit more. You can feel pretty poor when leaving the venue without asking for a cab or jumping right into your Rolls-Royce or Mercedes SLS just in front of the restaurant or one of the Porsches or Landrovers parked all over the streets around 34. But then, I'd rather drink another glass of wine and take the bus, than getting a cab home for the same price. Really enjoyed the brunch here, & the service was excellent. I had the Eggs Arlington (Benedict with salmon), which I thought were excellent, with perfectly poached eggs. (My husband had the same and thought there was too much Hollandaise, but I disagree) The eggs Arlington also come with about 4 tiny potatoes, but there are additional sides available too. Than, in the eve, the guests are very diverse: A table with 27-35'ish women, ready to for cocktails and dancing afterwards. A few families with adult/grown up kids. Some tables with grey hair, double breasted suites, pearls and fur coats. A few couples and some business suits. Dress code? Not really, but don't hoody'up unless you are 12 yrs old. Jeans, shirt, dress, heels. Wine list: Will make your taste buds dance! Food: Go for meat (amazing argentinian steaks or venison), poultry (beautifully, moist, crispy chicken) or fish (damn you Dover Sole...you is good) ! We had: - The Burger (the 6 year old loved it, but so did his father) very good pickles and the burger it self? Tasty! And it was big! - The Venison, so soft...good choice. Veggies and mash came with. - Steak Frites: good for kids ;) - Big Argentinean Steak: damn good! - Chicken...crispy, seasoned, spiced, moist.. (my favourite) it came with a very good coleslaw. And all I asked for was medium Of course I was able to return it back but by the time they will cook me a medium steak I would have to leave as they do the silly restaurant policy of 2 hours reservation of table!
