I struggled with doctors in my area, went out of the country (which had a medical boycott and riot against changing medical laws so I could not receive treatment) and desperately found Dr. Zaghi through reviews, youtube, and socials! One of the greatest parts about him as a doctor and primarily why I reached out and drove 7+ hours to meet him is that he also has personal experience with treatment/procedures for nasal/airway conditions! I don't know about you, but when someone goes through something similar to you the personal relatability can change a lot about how you listen and serve others! I called Dr. Zaghi office to make an appointment, and just learned that he doesn't take insurance. Which is fine with me because I'm pretty comfortable with billing myself. However, this information is NOOOOT on his website. For those who doesn't know how to bill the insurance and this is what you need to ask. 1) what is the procedure code?. Dr. Zaghi will charge $300 for the first initial consultation, and I don't even know how long this initial consultation run for. It can be 15, 30 or whatever. I know that in general the insurance will pay about $120 for medical diagnose office visit. However, it also depends on the procedure code. When I asked the representative over the phone. She is not willing to give me that information. 2) secondly, patient will need to know a provider NPI number. "An NPI is a 10-digit number that is assigned to an individual or a business entity used for billing purposes" However, the representative that answered the phone was NOT willing to give any information; therefore, there is no way for patient to find out how much they need to pay out of pocket. I gave him three star is to be fair. It is not the lowest (one star) or the highest (five star). My rating based on my personal experience that I felt during the phone call. What I have learned over the years is when medical professional do not want to take insurance is actually because they don't know how. Dealing with the insurance takes a lot of times and expertise. Some medical doctor can charge the insurance as much as $600 for 10 minutes but some will get paid only $110 process session. I know for fact, going through medical school is way harder than dealing with medical insurance. You just have to do it right once and the rest will be auto pilot. read more

I found that my tongue healed tighter and more tied down after the procedure and they want $350 just to look and assess next steps. I had a wonderful experience with Dr. Zaghi. Doctors often give the impression that they are rushed or trying to "move on" to the next patient - not Dr. Zaghi. He took his time with me, answered all my questions thoroughly, and worked with me to come up with a treatment plan that would address my needs. I was super impressed by the cleanliness of the office - in fact, the whole office is really nice, and they have a lot of high-tech equipment. I can't thank Dr. Zaghi enough and for the first time leaving a review doesn't seem enough either. I didn't have the opportunity to prescreen him prior to being treated by him because he was the on call plastic surgeon for UCLA Santa Monica during my ER visit. While the hospital advised me that he can take up to three hours to show up, he was actually there within 45 minutes. For someone to have their forehead cut open, there were all sorts of scenarios playing out in my head i.e. who is he, is he an expert, how long will it take, is the procedure going to be painful, am I leaving the hospital today, will I end up with the biggest scar on my face? There is the doctor/trade and then the human/healer factor. This man had it all. He showed up, asked for a light and tech. Both my husband and I were in awe of his "let's get this done" approach. He has more patience than I've ever seen, and just makes everything seem okay right from the start. The procedure took about 30 minutes and I was home free. He gave me an emergency contact number and checked in on me right away. A week later I showed up to his private practice for a follow up and his staff was nothing short of the same comforting, professional, and accommodating people. I am so grateful to have had him as the emergency doctor. I have since visited a plastic surgeon to come up with a scar therapy treatment and the plastic surgeon was also very impressed with Dr Zaghi's work. I've never been to a medical office where every single team member is consistently so kind, well trained and available. Yesterday I had a lingual frenectomy with Dr. Zaghi after 2 mos. of preparation with outstanding myofunctional therapist, Pareya. Usually this is done for babies or small children; I am over 50. Other than a few seconds of slight pain when I received a numbing shot, the procedure was so easy and smooth. I was nervous, but no had no reason to be. Aside from being highly skilled, Dr. Zaghi is extremely kind, gentle, present and aware of the patient's experience moment by moment. Dr. Zaghi performed my tongue tie release surgery. First of all, he is the nicest person and made me feel super comfortable before, during and after the surgery. My fiancé was with me when I had the surgery and met Dr. Zaghi as well. My fiancé said " I don't even need the surgery and I kind of want him to do surgery on me because he's so nice." lol. I had been doing myofascial orofacial therapy working up to the surgery which I know he recommends. The amount of tension I had before the surgery in my upper back and neck versus what I have now is night and day. My son just had a frenuloplasty surgery with Dr. Zaghi yesterday. This was his second and I can't overstate the difference between surgeries. It was night and day. I had been struggling with chronic congestion for over 10 years until I visited Dr. Zaghi. I had tried couple of different ENT specialist and I was getting the usual medication recommendations which didn't really work. Over the past 20 years, I've seen countless clinicians about my sleep problems. I've seen many of the best sleep doctors in the world, including being treated extensively at Stanford. In all that time, through all those clinicians, Dr. Zaghi's practice is hands down the best and most impressive I have encountered. I say that speaking from extensive and broad experience in both traditional and alternative approaches. For instance, I've been treated with: CPAP, three different mandibular advancement devices, CBT-i, adenotonsillectomy, septoplasty, meditation courses, medical hypnosis, every pill from Ambien to that new-fangled orexin antagonist, devices that lower your core body temperature, cranial electro-therapy stimulation, acupuncture, and much more. I even TA'ed the Sleep & Dreams class at Stanford specifically because I wanted to know absolutely everything I could about how I could improve my own sleep and sleep hygiene. Dr. Zaghi stands out with a combination of three characteristics that I prize in doctors, but rarely if ever see combined in one clinician: First, his impressive expertise and depth of knowledge. This was clear at every step of the process: From researching him, when I saw his impeccable training and credentials; to consulting with him, when he diagnosed me, laid out all my options, and answered all my questions with striking precision; to the frenectomy operation, when his skill and proficiency put me at ease; to the post-op, when I experienced minimal pain and no bleeding. Second, his impressive *breadth* of knowledge. Sometimes when I encounter an expert with such unimpeachable depth of knowledge and credentials, I am nevertheless uneasy, because their perspective seems narrow and myopic. Oftentimes, I feel that they are overlooking interdependencies and second-order effects / unintended consequences. Inevitably, the treatment they recommend is the one they specialize in ("if all you have is a hammer, everything looks like a nail."). Not so with Dr. Zaghi. In fact, the opposite--I've asked Dr. Zaghi to help coordinate my care because I feel like his breadth of knowledge allows him to better see the big picture. He has such a wide toolkit, he's able to help me find the option, or combination of options, that's right for me (as opposed to the option that's right for the clinician!). And his big picture view helps me find solutions that don't just narrowly address the problem at hand, but broadly support my overall health. Third, his impressive open-mindedness, curiosity, and ability to learn. Whenever I ask Dr. Zaghi an esoteric, tangentially-related question that is outside of his area of expertise, he'll look it up with me on Google and then deduce the answer with terrifying speed. It's obvious that he is genuinely curious and constantly learning (and extremely good at learning!). But it's not just Dr. Zaghi--the rest of the practice is superb. I've never dealt with a more professional, helpful, and knowledgeable staff. Maryam, my myofunctional therapist, is a great listener and a natural problem-solver. Gloria, the medical and research assistant, always answers my questions with the most useful, clear, and knowledgeable responses. Shea and the rest of the staff are unfailingly helpful and friendly. In the year and a half I've been treated in this office, they have all made the patient experience pleasantly frictionless and totally reassuring. I appreciated this acutely when I had my frenectomy a few weeks ago. I was nervous and barely slept. But as Gloria expertly and cheerfully guided me through the preparations, my anxiety vanished, because I knew I was in good hands. We discovered my son Luke, 7 years old, had a teeth grinding issue. A boy that young and happy shouldn't be grinding his teeth. For the past few years, Luke did have trouble breathing at night. Grinding helps him to breathe at night. So after 6 months of visiting specialists, Dr. Zaghi was the key to it all. He made it all make total sense. From the initial consult, I knew I was in good hands. The examination was so thorough. Dr. Zaghi's knowledge and approach was unlike anyone we had seen and I just knew we were finally in the right place! It was diagnosed that Luke would need both a tonsillectitomy and lingual frenuplasty. It turns out that Luke was a bit tongue tied which has caused Luke's top jaw to stop growing forward. This stunted growth in his upper jaw has caused him to have a blocked airway at night. Ultimately this caused the grinding. Dr. Zaghi prescribed pre and post myofunctional therapy for optimal results. We had the surgery and life is completely changing for our little Luke. He now sleeps with his mouth closed and no grinding. He has a clear airway and there is no more heavy breathing at night. The continued therapy is teaching him how to use his tongue properly so we don't end up where we started. My 24 year old nephew, Rich, has had breathing issues most of his life. We were referred to Dr. Zaghi by Dr. Hang (a brilliant orthodontist), and knew from our first meeting that Dr. Zaghi was the one for us. He discovered a deviated septum as a primary source of Rich's breathing difficulties, and recommended a septoplasty to remedy it. Prior to surgery, I watched videos online to know what to expect. Most warned of extreme pain and long recoveries. Some even stated they wouldn't have had their surgery had they known what recovery would be like. Well, you could have fooled us! Dr. Zaghi's skill and gentleness were such that Rich felt and looked fine immediately after surgery-- and great within one to two days! He didn't need any painkillers and was breathing better than ever within a week. One of the operating room nurses even commented how well Dr. Zaghi's patients come out of surgery, whereas others routinely experience bruising and pain. Dr. Zaghi is a true artist. Unfortunate to have to be the first 1 star review here but hopefully this helps someone else. TL;DR is that despite all evidence to the contrary, stretching is not optional. I was recommended to see Dr. Zaghi for a tongue frenectomy after being examined by another doctor for sleep apnea issues. Contacting Zaghis office and scheduling an initial video consultation went fine. Video consultation itself went smoothly, Zaghi seemed to have a pretty good attitude and was pleasant to interact with. Unfortunately, the big problem starts here. Zaghi mentioned that doing tongue stretches was recommended in order for the surgery to be the most successful. The term "myofunctional therapy" was used because "tongue stretching shit" would be too easy to hear correctly the first time. So Zaghi recommends doing tongue stretches and I'm like "sure whatever". He also said that more information would be sent my way about that topic and I think a phone call was mentioned, though I never received one. The documentation I received from Zaghi about a week before our appointment date was a medical document that mostly summarized my health status and also included a paragraph once again recommending myofunctional therapy. I think it should be clear at this point that the "pre-surgery instructions" regarding stretching were not being pushed very hard. I then also had the completely insane thought that it made more sense to start doing tongue stretches after the frenectomy since I'd have more freedom of movement to actually stretch with. Date of the procedure comes, I trek out from SF to the Walnut Creek office. Once it's time I get seated in the operating room with Zaghi and he asks about the myofunctional therapy and I explained that I hadn't been doing any stretching. This apparently means we can't proceed to do anything whatsoever since the surgery won't have the optimal results. Nevermind that I'd be happy to start stretching after the procedure or that I consider having the present tongue tie to be a much larger issue than whether it heals the easiest. After some back and forth I got up and left in a huff since Zaghi made it very clear he no longer wanted to do the procedure and I didn't feel like getting a lecture on tongue stretches the day I was supposed to have had a life long medical issue fixed. So yeah, if you want to be such a hard-ass on doing myofunctional therapy(tongue stretchies) that needs to be clearly and explicitly laid out somewhere. Plenty of emails were exchanged to schedule the appointment and none of them went on about this at all. Also at no point were any specific exercises mentioned or demonstrated prior to the visit. Evidently the fact that it was mentioned in our first video call and there was a paragraph tucked into a medical history form recommending it meant I should have been doing 3 sessions of 15 minutes of stretching a day for at least 4 weeks. Bollocks. Ultimately the whole experience was a massive waste of time and delayed my searching and scheduling for an actual frenectomy procedure to be done in the city. Fun fact, if you look up tongue ties and frenectomies a lot of the videos and discussions about it are regarding babies. I can watch a video of a baby get his frenulum snipped in under a minute, dozens of hours of stretching not required. read more

After decades of horrible snoring my fiancé had finally gotten a sleep apnea diagnosis and began using a CPAP. However, he never could fully breathe through his nose, even in the daytime, due to a deviated septum and nasal polyps. Although he was religious about his CPAP use, for the nights that he was unable to use it (perhaps we were camping or forgot to pack it on a trip), we were miserable. I finally convinced him to go to the VA where, as a veteran, he is eligible for care. I didn't tell him, but I was a bit nervous, as I had had a friend who had nasal surgery at a private facility twice and was still not able to breathe properly. We were assigned to Dr. Zaghi. I don't know how we were so lucky to get this top-notch surgeon who traveled up to the VA in Palo Alto from SoCal to treat vets but I feel like we won the lottery. Dr. Z explained the whole septoplasty & polyp removal procedure, carried it out in the time expected, and most critically, gave explicit instructions for the post-surgery wound care. He was in Palo Alto twice more for the follow-up exams. The surgery was a complete success. My fiancé's recovery was speedy and problem-free, he can now breathe normally through his nose, and his snoring has been virtually eliminated. I would say that one of life's greatest luxuries is falling asleep in your beloved's arms, something I thought would never be possible. I was referred to Dr. Zaghi for a frenuloplasty by my orthotropist. Before the procedure, I was walked through the surgery itself and all post-operative myofunctional therapy. Any questions I had were answered to the fullest extent, and I felt comfortable proceeding with the operation. The frenuloplasty took about 15 minutes, and I could feel the difference in tongue mobility immediately. I felt minimal discomfort in the days following, which I attribute to Dr. Zaghi's experience and skill with oral surgery. Dr. Zaghi is a great doctor and an expert in his field. He is truly passionate about helping people. He is thorough, compassionate, and takes his time with each patient. His staff is professional, warm, and caring. I brought my 17-year-old son in for a consultation. He is a mouth breather. After failed orthodontics, he is left with a horrible open bite (only his back two molars touch when he bites down), poor facial development, and a restricted airway. He wore his retainers as directed but because of his mouth breathing, tongue thrust, allergies, enlarged tonsils (size 4), his teeth began to move rapidly after the braces were removed and many additional problems have been created. Mouth breathing causes so many problems and wreaks havoc on your health. No one ever warned me. One of the things Dr. Zaghi recommended was a lingual frenuloplasty to release his tongue tie. The result was FANTASTIC and honestly more than I could have even hoped for. There was minimal pain after this in- office procedure, and he recovered quickly. His posture completely changed after the procedure. He stands completely upright. Before the lingual frenuloplasty, he stood hunched over with his head jutting forward (like a turtle). I had asked Dr. Zaghi if the lingual frenuloplasty would correct his posture because I had read about it on other websites, but he only said "maybe." It definitely did!!! My son randomly had another student at school come up to him and comment on how good his posture was. Next will be a tonsillectomy and adenoidectomy to address the restricted airway and mouth breathing. It is so hard to express in words how much I genuinely love Dr. Zaghi. I will be forever grateful to him for what he has done for my daughter. I have been on, what felt like an endless journey for answers to my daughters chronic mouth breathing. I noticed it since she was born but I never understood then the horrible consequences that would manifest and I certainly didn't expect the long and expensive road we had in front of us. As a first-time mom I wrote off her mouth breathing and heavy drooling as something a baby did but when she became three years old I knew I could not ignore this any longer. I read everything I could about this and went down the list to try and find an answer. We went to three ENTs (to rule out tonsils/adenoids), two allergists (to see if it was environmental) and we even spent $3500 to get her in early orthodontic care (thinking it was structural/palate). We even threw in myofunctional therapy, buteyeko breathing and buying a very expensive "lip trainer" from Singapore for good measure. Thousands of dollars later and I still did not have any sort of progress with my daughters mouth breathing, just growing frustration and our time and money wasted. After realizing the money spent on orthodontic care was not working either I searched for a different orthodontist. I stumbled upon a website for Dr. William Hang (another amazing, progressive thinking doctor) and after consulting with him he had me get in touch with Dr. Zaghi. After a few seconds in her mouth he told us that she had a posterior tongue-tie. Tongue Tie! All these years of searching and he gave me an answer in 30 seconds! I almost couldn't believe it, it was so simple for him but all this time it wasn't simple for us. There is not much information online discussing tongue tie and mouth breathing but there should be. And there are even fewer doctors who make the correlation to tongue tie/mouth breathing/other health problems. But if you are a mouth breather, or love a mouth breather then do yourself a favor and go see Dr. Zaghi. There are very few ENT doctors who are looking at this the way that Dr. Zaghi is. You can tell that this is his passion and life's work. He is doing things other doctors are not and he is definitely paving the way for others and bringing awareness to tongue ties. Mouth breathing is not normal. It's never normal but for some reason it has become normal in our society. My poor daughter spent eight years not being able to physically close her mouth because of her tongue tie. That's why none of the things we did worked, her tongue was in the way! I could never get her to breast-feed adequately, she was a heavy drooler, hyperactive from the lack of sleep, snored, heavy bags under her eyes etc. All of these things were from her tongue tie. This is why the work that Dr. Zaghi does is monumental. Ground breaking even. I can assure you that as the years go on only more awareness will be brought to this subject. And as if I did not sing Dr. Zaghi's praises enough, I also would like to add that he is a genuinely nice doctor, the nicest doctor we've ever had the pleasure of knowing. I came to Dr. Zaghi after my 3 year old still had a posterior tongue tie after three prior failed procedures! I was so frustrated being a Physician Assistant and in the field of medicine and not being able to help my son who has a lisp and speech delay second to his severe tongue tie. I had my son see a dentist, a pediatrician and ENT surgeon who did three procedures and they still could not fix his posterior tongue tie. He still had a posterior tongue tie despite extensive speech therapy and three failed procedures. Well apparently many dentist and ENT surgeons don't recognize or know how to correct these problems. Dr Zaghi gave me hope and reassured me that the fourth time is the charm and that he would permanently correct what a prior pediatrician, dentist and ENT surgeon could not do for my son. I knew I needed a tongue frenectomy, but needing it didn't make me less nervous. Dr. Zaghi came in to review the plans for the surgery and showed me a detailed calendar of the healing process and what to expect and then asked me how I was feeling. After establishing that I was nervous but ready, Sanda came in and gave me a tongue and gum massage to try to loosen and relax the area for the procedure. Then she went through how to massage my tongue post-surgery and gave me some tongue exercises to perform while healing (these really make the surgery more effective and are vital to recovery, so push through the pain). Sanda applied local topical anesthetic to my tongue and gave me a stress-toy to squeeze just in case during the procedure. Dr. Zaghi asked me what kind of music I liked and let it play in the background. He checked a few places under my tongue, asking me if I could feel any pain. Then he went in with the needle to anesthetize further. He waited for the anesthetic to kick in and then the procedure went smoothly. He would ask me to make certain shapes with my tongue, then he would pinch a part, ask me if I could feel it, and if I indicated no, he would cut. He constantly would check the anesthesia before cutting, and if I hesitated, he would reinject and wait to make sure I wouldn't experience any pain. After we got through the front tie, he stopped and told me that the tension in the back sides needed to be released, but we could stop and wait for the front to heal for a month before going back in. He also explained that continuing would mean a longer recovery. After deciding to continue, the rest of the procedure went as well as before. While closing me up with stitches he explained I might need a revision, but we would re-evaluate after I had healed. Healing for me was relatively easy, and I kept up with the exercises I was shown. Swallowing immediately afterwards was so much easier even with the pain. My sleep quality immediately improved, and my dreams were longer and more vivid. And for the first time in my life, when I woke up I felt energized. When I went back in, Dr. Zaghi found that I did not even need a revision. Dr. Zaghi is a highly decorated pioneer in his field. He really takes the time to listen to his patients and knows exactly how to make you feel comfortable even with a scalpel inside your mouth while you are wide awake undergoing a frenectomy under local anesthesia. I was scared at first but when the nice receptionist up front joked with me and told me that 7 year olds come in and get this sort of thing done all the time, I decided to suck it up and get it done. He talked to me the entire time, kept asking how I was doing, made sure there was no pain at all and even called the pharmacy HIMSELF to make sure they had my medication so that I wouldn't be in any discomfort. He has changed my life in such a positive way. When you are a stage 3 tongue tied, life is a little more difficult than it needs to be. I didn't know that until I had the procedure. I truly felt like a different person after the frenectomy. Highly recommend him to anyone who has breathing issues. Not to mention, he is cool and not one of those doctors who has a giant ego.
