I can't thank Dr. Zaghi enough and for the first time leaving a review doesn't seem enough either. I didn't have the opportunity to prescreen him prior to being treated by him because he was the on call plastic surgeon for UCLA Santa Monica during my ER visit. While the hospital advised me that he can take up to three hours to show up, he was actually there within 45 minutes. For someone to have their forehead cut open, there were all sorts of scenarios playing out in my head i.e. who is he, is he an expert, how long will it take, is the procedure going to be painful, am I leaving the hospital today, will I end up with the biggest scar on my face? There is the doctor/trade and then the human/healer factor. This man had it all. He showed up, asked for a light and tech. Both my husband and I were in awe of his "let's get this done" approach. He has more patience than I've ever seen, and just makes everything seem okay right from the start. The procedure took about 30 minutes and I was home free. He gave me an emergency contact number and checked in on me right away. A week later I showed up to his private practice for a follow up and his staff was nothing short of the same comforting, professional, and accommodating people. I am so grateful to have had him as the emergency doctor. I have since visited a plastic surgeon to come up with a scar therapy treatment and the plastic surgeon was also very impressed with Dr Zaghi's work. Thank you for being such a kind and caring doctor/healer. Thank you!

1 star. Only because the option to leave zero doesn't exist…read more I want to write this review carefully, because I want it to actually be useful - both to people deciding whether to come here, and to UCLA, if anyone there is paying attention. Dr. Nabili is excluded from this review as he was wonderful, kind, caring, a pleasure to deal with, and helped me breathe again. Start with the basics: getting an appointment at UCLA ENT Santa Monica takes close to a year. Not weeks. Not months. Nearly a year. While certainly not the first time, I was recently told I had to make an appointment with Dr. Gail Ishiyama, who I had seen in the past, but though my symptoms were severe, I had to wait a year. Whatever is happening with your health while you wait is your problem to manage alone. By the time you're seen, your symptoms may have progressed, your records are scattered, and you're starting from scratch with a doctor who has fifteen minutes and no real context for what you've been going through. Then the appointment itself. Rather than taking a full picture of what you're describing, the approach seems to be: identify the most obvious thing, form a conclusion, and move on. Other symptoms you mention - even ones that matter, even ones that could change the picture entirely - don't make it into the notes. You can watch it happen in real time. You say something, they don't write it down, and you realize it won't be there the next time. When I came back and did the work myself - organized my symptoms, connected the timeline, laid it all out so clearly that there was no ambiguity - it still didn't change the outcome. There was no curiosity about what I'd put together. No reconsideration. The conclusions had already been formed, and the new information wasn't going to disturb them. What makes this worse is the ping-pong. You'll be told your issue doesn't fall under what one doctor handles, so you're sent somewhere else. That doctor says the same thing. You're bounced around within the same system, each handoff resetting any progress you'd made, nobody taking ownership, nobody coordinating. You are not a patient with a case. You are a referral being managed. Dr. Gail Ishiyama's husband, Dr. Akira Ishiyama refused to make an appointment altogether. First though, his staff told me I had to get a hearing test before they'd even consider making an appointment. Which I did. Then, they told me he took one look at some of the symptoms I had reported on a similar but different issue and said it's not his area. When I explained the difference and concern regarding temporal bone trauma, they said he deals with cochlear implants and ear tumors. Interesting since his profile explicitly says "Dr. Ishiyama is actively involved in the research projects on Meniere's disease and Human Temporal Bone Pathology." (Exactly what I needed.) I have read other reviews describing exactly this pattern - the initial warmth that fades once things get complicated, the dismissal, the shuffle between doctors, the growing sense that asking too many questions makes you a problem rather than a patient. I am not an outlier. This appears to be how the system here operates. If you have something simple and easy to categorize, you may be fine. But if your situation is complex, if your symptoms don't fit a clean script, if you need someone to actually think alongside you rather than process you, this is not the place. You will spend months getting appointments, thousands on copays, leave with less clarity than you came in with, and potentially with symptoms worse than before. Go somewhere that will listen to the whole picture before deciding what it means.

I traveled from out of town to see Dr. Larian after consulting with two other doctors in my area who did not impress me with their knowledge or recommendations. From the moment I met Dr. Larian, I was immediately impressed by his bedside manner, friendliness, and professionalism. He took the time to thoroughly explain my condition, discuss his recommendations, and review possible outcomes. He answered all of my questions with patience and respect, and by the end of the consultation, I knew without hesitation that he was the right provider for me. His credentials and experience certainly speak for themselves as well. Following surgery, my recovery was more challenging than expected, and I encountered some unforeseen issues. Throughout this difficult time, Dr. Larian was incredibly supportive and attentive. He stayed in close contact, monitored my progress, and continued to support me until everything was fully resolved. That level of care and commitment truly meant a great deal to me. Today, I am fully recovered and extremely grateful to Dr. Larian for the excellent care he provided. I highly recommend him to anyone seeking a knowledgeable, skilled, and genuinely kind physician. I would not hesitate to see him again if ever needed. Thank you so much Dr. Larian!

When they brought me in, the doctor couldn't figure out what was wrong and told me I needed to see an "ear specialist." Why on earth they would have assigned me to someone who was NOT an ear specialist when I was coming in for hearing loss is beyond me. I waited to see that person and then was told she wanted me to go do a repeat of the audiology testing because she didn't trust the first testing even though it was done within their own office!! I took my kid Leo B. to feeding therapy and got referred to Dr. Zaghi at the Breathe Institute, to…read moremake sure his airway was working properly. I have some skepticism about what a friend of mine calls the airway industrial complex, this network of medical professionals who prescribe elective interventions for children with all manner of symptoms that may have some basis in the respiratory system. But I have nothing bad to say about Dr. Zaghi and his office, who were professional and supportive through what ended up being a months-long ordeal. Turns out my six-year-old had a tongue tie, which once upon a time, may have started him on a path toward picky eating (which is now firmly behavioral and hard to reverse). His pediatrician thinks too many things are blamed on tongue ties these days, and I tend to believe her, but she also said there was no harm in getting it removed. This involved three office visits and several sessions of myofunctional therapy, both before and after the procedure, which we were able to conduct over Zoom (probably better in person, but I did not want to take him out of school early once a week to drive to Westwood). The Breathe Institute is in the Westwood Medical Plaza on Wilshire, right across from the Hammer Museum. Parking is a little hard to figure out, but you can pay through the nose for valet (as I did when I missed the self-parking entrance on a day we were running late) or park in a cheaper pay lot and walk (an option suggested by the office, which wasn't bad except it made us late). The office is nice, clinically clean and brand new (they actually moved between two of our appointments). The staff is warm, and they all know how to handle children, who make up a meaningful part of their clientele. We went in February for an initial consult, which involved X-rays and a whole lot of information. Dr. Zaghi examined Leo, looked at the X-rays, and diagnosed the tongue tie, which I could see for myself when he pointed it out. He suggested a tongue tie release, a minimally invasive surgery done at the clinic, with a few weeks of therapy on either side, to stretch the tongue and support optimal healing. He also gave me literature for further interventions down the road, should we need them. Things like tonsil removal and palate expansion. The therapy was an annoying commitment and frustrating to do on Zoom, but our therapist Stephanie Estrada was great, and Leo did well with her. We had several weeks of daily tongue exercises in preparation for the surgery, and the surgery itself was fast and almost entirely painless. I was there for the whole thing, and Dr. Zaghi could not have been more reassuring or professional. My son did great, I was proud of him and he was proud of himself. A few more weeks of therapy, then a two-month check-up, and now we are through it all with no more tongue tie, if still no improvement in my son's ingrained eating habits. Was the surgery was worthwhile? I can't say for sure. But I'm glad we addressed the tongue tie, and we had a good experience with Dr. Zaghi and his team.
