Stopped for lunch. First time eating there. The food was ok. Not great. Not awful. Ordered Orange Chicken. The fried rice was cold. The chicken was cold. The taste was a very mild flavor. I might not have known it was Orange chicken if I hadn't ordered it. The server was OK. The dining room was mostly empty when we were seated and quite full when we left. The server we had appeared to be taking care of all the tables. it seems to be a popular place for locals. So maybe it was just my order. This is the kind of place that really has its market cornered; there's not a ton of food around, and there's really not a ton of Asian food. The place was busy, with takeout orders piled up and several people eating in. As I wanted to reach my next destination before dark, I went with takeout. They had a large vegetarian section, and I picked a tofu with black bean sauce which was pretty much exactly what the name says. This was a savory and tasty black bean sauce, and the fried tofu held an excellent mix of textures and flavors. I could have used some vegetables, but their vegetable dishes were heavy on broccoli that I didn't want and the vegetarian section didn't include appetizers. It wasn't anything fancy, but it scratched my Chinese food itch and provided a distinctive vegetarian option in a mountainous region which does not cater to vegetarians, so I was happy to have stopped here, but also fine with my decision not to order anything else. read more

Had lunch here today. I had the chicken and vegetables and my friend had the sesame chicken. Both dishes were quite good and filling. We were a tad surprised by the sweetness of the cheese in the cheese rangoon. There's usually some other flavor like crab or scallions but these did not seem to have that. The fried rice was very good and we both enjoyed our entrees. Nice hot mustard when asked for it for the spring rolls that came along with the lunch specials. read more

Four adults shared a giant bowl of wonton soup with noodles, chicken egg foo young and sesame chicken. And there was plenty. The soup is so delicious that all you hear at our table was wow this is so good. The sesame chicken was tender and the egg foo young wasn't greasy. Service was attentive and fast. Decided to finally try this place. I can only speak on what I ordered which was vegetable fried rice with extra veggies. (I was charged extra) Unfortunately I guess the dish would have been all rice if I didn't say extra because the amount of vegetables was ridiculously small. Egg roll nothing to write home about. Should be renamed to So's mediocre kitchen. Paid $18 for a seafood medley and received what could only be described as whatever you could grab from the dollar general freezer section in 10 seconds or less. The wonton soup was in an insanely salty dark broth that tasted like someone spilled teriyaki sauce in it, for reference wonton soup should be in a light broth with the flavor of scallions. The sirloin meat was also incredibly chewy and had no flavor. This has honestly been one of the worst Chinese places I've ever eaten, and thats not a very easy spot to claim. Service was nice but forgot to give me back my card upon checkout, they were apologetic about it which makes it slightly better i guess. The ambiance was alright and pretty standard for Chinese restaurants. Update: I have intense food poisoning. read more

In the north Georgia mountains good Asian restaurants are hard to come by. But this Chinese place is really good! The food is tasty and the service is fast and friendly. It's conveniently located on the main highway going into Murphy and it's open even on Sunday when other restaurants are closed. Give So's a try. I think you will love it and you won't have to drive to Atlanta for good Chinese food. read more

So's good? Not so good. This weekend we traveled to Murphy NC with some of our friends and had lunch at So's Chinese Kitchen. The parking lot had adequate parking and the dining area and bathrooms were very clean. As we walked in we were greeted by smiling employees. We were seated right away and given a menu. The menu is colorful and laminated and had photos of the different dishes. After we placed our order the waiter took the menus and I saw them wiping them off with a towel. That was nice to see. The food came out quickly and the portions were adequate and presented nicely. I had the fried dumplings as an appetizer. They were crispy and flavorful. Served with a sweet soy dipping sauce. My wife had the Cheese rangoons. They were wonton wrappers filled with cream cheese, fried and served with duck sauce. She enjoyed them. We also split some steamed edamame. They were good but they were lacking in salt. For entrees I had the beef chow fun and my wife had the sweet and sour chicken. Our friends had the Mongolian beef and the house special fried rice. Although the sweet and sour chicken had a battering on them, it wasn't traditional and was soft not crispy. The sauce did not taste traditional either and was served in a bowl with chopped pineapples peppers and onions. It had a weird taste to it. My wife did not like it and neither did I. She said the white rice was good. The beef chow fun was bland and the beef, what there was of it, was sliced so thin, that it was dry and tough (like beef jerky). We also ordered egg rolls. They were small like spring rolls and where soggy. When we bit into them they squirted liquid. I believe it was fryer oil. They had just opened and I don't think the fryer was up to temperature when they cooked them, causing them to soak up oil. Our friends thought the Mongolian beef was ok but they thought there was way too much sauce and it was a bit too sweet. They also thought the house special fried rice was just ok. I thought the prices were high for the quality of food received and I also thought it was interesting that they had 2 totals on the bill. One price for cash and then a higher price if you were paying with a credit card. We had a good time but would probably try another place next time we travel to Murphy. read more

Got takeout from this spot a couple weeks ago and was so so impressed! I ordered the senchuan chicken and steak lunch portion with fried rice and veggies my boyfriend got sesame chicken with fried rice. He doesn't eat veggies and they easily accommodated him with veggie-free fried rice at no extra charge. I also ordered steamed pork dumplings as an appetizer- amazing! The egg rolls that came with my dish were excellent. Might I add that we got HUGE portions (we ordered lunch size) that lasted us 2-3 meals, all for about $8 each unheard of. And. So. Good. They had excellent curbside service- called the food in and never one left my car, a young man brought the food straight out and was very nice. I can't recommend this place enough! We plan on getting more takeout from here whenever in Murphy. Hopefully soon we will feel comfortable and safe enough to dine-in at restaurants, but for the time being I don't think this location is even allowing that. read more

I do not plan to return here. The food is just okay, nothing stood out. The Pad Thai was too sweet and very wet. It was missing the tangy elements that make Pad Thai. The dumplings were okay but the sauce served with them was a thick soy sauce not the typical soy / vinegar sauce. The hot and sour soup was served very warm but was missing ingredients like wood ear mushrooms and bamboo shoots.
