You just put your order in online and they will call you in the next couple of days that it's ready and they just need to know ahead of time when you are going to be picking up so they can have things ready for you. The employees are very friendly at pickup I was in and out in under 5 minutes, even when I showed up earlier than my pre picked time. They smiled, said it was no problem and instantly handed over a paper bag with the 2 packs I had preordered. it was pain free. honestly, for the price of the packs and the easy at which to get them, SOS is a must as far as I'm concerned. We stopped by last week, basically so my wife could purchase a CERT t-shirt to wear for an upcoming training course. CERT stands for Community Emergency Response Team. They did have her desired shirt but unfortunately, due to a shortage of staff, no one was being allowed inside so all purchase requests were being made and filled from outside the roped off entrance. I mistakenly assumed that she was shopping for her volunteer work with the Red Cross. But no, she's been involved with CERT as well, for many more years on and off. I placed my order online and requested to do a curbside pickup later in the week. I received a confirmation call that the date and time was acceptable. My GPS took me to the other side of the building which initially confused me but I drove into the parking lot and saw their signs. I was able to park in the loading area and didn't need to call the number since a gentleman was at the loading dock. I gave him my info and he was able to load my order directly into my vehicle. But I have to ding them with this review because I drove all the way there only to find out that their showroom is closed to the public. This place is way overpriced! I recently needed to get some new supplies and took at look at SOS online. First off they are closed inside. Second lots of stuff they sell is no better then items you can buy at the .99 cent store or DollarTree. A trip to a walmart camping section and the hardware aisle of Walmart should get you 85 to 90% to where you need to be for the average person in terms of supplies for kits. Another great resource for these types of items is amazon.com of course Costco and costco.com are going to also be a great option when they have emergency food, freeze dried items, tents outdoor cooking tools, generators flashlights, etc. I don't know about you, but with retail prices at an all-time high I'm looking to maximize what I can purchase for an earthquake, nuclear attack, fire, flood, zombie outbreak! read more

It's a survival/prepping store in an industrial section of Van Nuys. They have classes, some free, some at a reasonable cost. They have everything you need to prepare for the next big disaster, be it an earthquake, a fire, or a zombie apocalypse. (seriously, they had first aid bags with "Zombie Response Kit" on them. Cute) They have first aid for you, they have first aid for your neighbors, they have first aid for your pets. Once again, that's not a joke, they have first aid packs designed for dogs and cats. They have water filtration systems. Signal flares. They have what you need if you're lost in the woods or hunkered down after the big one hit. It would be easier to list what they don't have: They don't have Eddie Bauer edition socks. But other than that, they have you covered. The Mrs. and I always have a disaster kit on hand for whatever emergencies might arise in that area. We've had hurricane kits, tornado kits, blizzard kits and earthquake kits. With the recent earthquakes, people are getting prepared or panicking or both. They ran out of the pouches of water so I bought the water that lasts 25 years shelf time. Anything that you need for your earthquake kit or even for camping, they have. Found him and the staff helpful, and they are also participating in a canned food drive to help the community. We bought 20 cans of soup, and they gave us a discount. There was a lot of items in that store that you can buy online or even at target or any other store such as big five or sports authority's. The store is a very small store it's more like a mom and pop shop which is OK. I ended up spending over $480 on earthquake preparedness disaster preparedness not to mention the huge order I did a month prior to that. Why am I giving it a three stars, well because the aisles are so tiny and customer service is not all that. The people there are nice, I don't understand what some other reviewers are complaining about. Do you need to be apologized to as soon as you walk in and then followed around by a slave with a fan? It's a survival warehouse, not Nieman Marcus. Update: took a free class here and picked up a few more items for friends. This place is awesome. How can anyone say it's overpriced? You can get a pair of leather work gloves for under two dollars. You can get freeze dried Mountain House meals for less than on Amazon. You can get Rite In Rain memo pads and books for cheaper than anywhere I've found on the net. As soon as you walk in the place it's clear it's a warehouse and most of their business is done online. I'm not offended by this as some people seem to be. If your ego demands a lavish and financially irresponsible storefront then go to Rodeo Drive where you can pay way too much for stuff you don't need. The people here are nice and they give you space to look around without pestering you like some used car salesman. Another bonus: no ambient music playing in the background. We had our first trip to SOS today. Wow. They have a very wide selection of products and items in every price range. All emergency gear. Someone just picking up a few bits and pieces to fill out an emergency kit will be just as at home as a survival junkie with 100 gallons of stored water in the garage. We picked up a few goodies to add to our CERT backpacks. Some of the common "hardware" items are cheaper than Home Depot! This is such a great store! I've been coming here for a while. The online catalog is a breeze to go through. But I always prefer going to the store. They have a great selection of items. Every time we go camping I have to stop here first incase of any last minute things or to see what's new. Here's the thing. I could do a lot of research Or shop around for the best price on any given Black Friday/Monday. The thing is I can procrastinate or got or one one I trust to make sure that when the impossible happens, and we've had impossible happen a lot this year, and be prepared. SOS has done the work for me of sourcing emergency preparedness and didn't BA BS me woth too much stuff or brand names for more. They sent me a dual propane/gas generator and back up tanks so I don't have to worry about a power outage. Honestly, the piece of mind I have due to the trust this company engendered is worth the sale price 3x and also this was less expensive without a sale and I believe they will stand behind the products they sell. SOS Survival products specializes in just that - preparedness/survival items. You won't find any mil surplus stuff here, just things that would get you out of a bind should the SHTF. They have a pretty good parking lot sale once a year. I bought my new 55 gallon water gallon barrels here. Considering shipping costs on that type of bulky item, I got a deal. Other stuff like their water purifier additive isn't such a great deal - it''s just bleach, unscented. You'll also find tools, and fairly extensive first aid kits here as well. I guess the best thing about this place is that it groups all the practical items you would need in most disaster situations under one roof. Otherwise one would have to shop around, and while you might get a better deal at the Home Depot, Ace or Lowe's and Rite-Aid, you'd probably end up missing something along the way. read more

My job requires me to stock and supply the medical kits for work. I'm a certified EMT and have found this one of the best local places to get professional-level, OTC medical supplies when you want more than just basic band-aids! I usually shop online and buy in bulk, but this is a great store when I need something ASAP and cannot or don't want to wait for shipping. obviously the prices are not as low as online, but that's understandable because this place has to pay for store front costs. Still, their prices are much better than buying at major chain pharmacies and definitely much better than other companies that specialize in selling first aid supplies to businesses. They give a slight discount to EMT's and probably other certifications too. It's in the deep end of an industrial row of warehouses, but there are very good signs to help you find it easily. This place has catalogs and an online store in addition to a retail store front you can go to and browse. I love that the cashiers are not in your face. They employees do always come to the counter whenever someone walks in and politely says hi to let you know that they are if you do have questions or want guidance. Often small stores are so eager to help and make a sale they get too close for MY comfort following customers around and standing over their shoulder. I love that they do NOT do that. I go for the medical supplies, but they also have a great select of all kinds of emergency supplies and many items that can be useful for outdoor adventures like camping. read more

I drove all the way down from Bakersfield to attend one of the training classes SOS products hosted. I paid 50 dollars for the class. I asked a guy with glasses and a red beanie where the bathroom was and he told me to go to Taco Bell three miles away. It was ridiculous and rude. I ended up driving to Taco Bell. When I come back for the class I over hear the same guy in the red beanie and glasses talking to a women dressed in all black making fun of all the people who needed to use the bathroom and why we couldn't just hold it or use the bathroom before we showed up for the class. I will never again come for a class hosted in this establishment. The employees are rude and don't care about their customers. read more
