I've been going to Dr. Souferian now for five years. It's been great. I was about to go to another dentist, however, because Dr. Souferian's office doesn't take the new insurance I have. I ended up going to the dentist a few blocks away from his office who was in my network. I cannot say anything about the dentist because I did not get a chance to see her. I was so turned off by her receptionist who wouldn't accept my temporary insurance card. I didn't care whether I would have to pay out of pocket to go back to Dr. Souferian's office. I just know that I will get quality service and be treated like a human being. Like too many people, I put off going to the dentist until I am in pain. As a result, I had not been to dentist in several years, up until two months ago. About this time, I began experiencing pain in two teeth. I assumed I had cavities and finally made an appointment, to see Dr. Souferian. Turns out, I had several cavities, two of which were rather deep. He told me exactly what my options were and said he would remove the dead pulp, fill the cavity and do his best to avoid me having to get root canal. Over the course of several visits, I found Dr. Souferian to be honest, easy going and very clear about what he was doing. It would have been more expensive, and therefore profitable for him, to use resin fillings, he suggested I go with the silver because it is stronger and will last longer. When it was determined that I needed a root canal on one of the teeth, he told me that it was a relatively complex root canal and would feel better if I had the procedure done by a specialist. I took his advice, went to the specialist (who told me it was a tricky tooth to work with) and was extremely pleased with his work as well. I've now visited Dr. Souferian's office six times over the past few months and cannot praise him enough. I almost look forward to going to the dentist...almost =) Professional, great bedside manner, very reasonably priced and great communication. His assistant, Shania (sorry I don't know how to spell her name) is also very pleasant and very good about scheduling and confirming appointments. I felt compelled to write a review for this dentist because after my previous experiences with dentists and with some of the horrifying stories my friends have told me, I was glad to find a dentist I actually liked. I chose this dentist at random after determining he takes my insurance. Positives: -I did not have a long waiting time. There is a particular dentist (in BR) that I used to go to that always had me waiting FOREVER. I actually was able to sit in a patient room not too long after I filled out all of my paperwork. While you are waiting for him, his assistants will have you do this or that so that you don't feel like you're waiting long at all for him. -He actually talks to you. I found him to be very friendly. He does not chastise you, which was nice considering I hadn't been to the dentist in awhile. -I felt he was incredibly honest. In retrospect, the old dentist I used to go to definitely ripped me off, claimed I had all of these cavities, that I needed my wisdom teeth out, etc. Dr. Souferian told me that I had no cavities and that he felt, in my case, getting my wisdom teeth out was not a necessity but an option. -E-mail reminders for when you need to go back for your check-up. All-in-all I had a very positive experience with Dr. Souferian and will be returning soon. I have no negatives to report as of yet. read more

EMERGENCY FRACTURED TOOTH: I had a fractured tooth which happened at 2:00 a.m. on Sunday morning. I reviewed online providers in my area covered by my insurance and Dr. Souferian was part of the network (Assurant / Aetna). I found out that they were open 7-days a week (Sundays!). I called first thing when they opened (10:00 a.m.) and they got me in that early afternoon (1:00 p.m.). The staff was friendly on the phone, the dental assistant and front desk personnel were professional, courteous and personable. They had forms available on their website which I downloaded and had completed before my arrival. I also photocopied my insurance card and provided search result printout and had ready for them before arriving to the office. This sped up the 1-time-visitor process. Dr. Souferian was pleasant, professional, personable and comforting. I was concerned as I was leaving for Spain two days later. The doctor assured me that they could take care of it right away. They did an x-ray to ensure that the fracture wasn't deeper than it appeared. He carefully explained (1) what the problem was (2) what the procedure would be to remedy it (3) what could be necessary in the future and (4) assured me to come back if there were further discomfort. I was in and out within an hour: he removed the old filling, put in a new filling, shaved the tooth down for proper bite-alignment. Before anything was done, he explained what was to take place. And made sure I gave permission for move ahead. I did not have to wait in the waiting room and they attended to me immediately. I highly recommend their facility. I won't be going back to this dental office. The service was very poor tonight. I specifically booked my appoint with not just any hygienist but this particular requested hygienist. Instead, they gave the hygienist who was suppose to be working on me to a new patient per the Dr.'s request. I hope it was worth it but cause you just lost my business. The cleaning was done by the dentist who is not a hygienist and did a lack luster highly inadequate job. It was apparent he is not a specialist in cleaning teeth. He didn't even work on the back teeth in my mouth. Then he didn't ask but told me to take X-rays. I paid out of pocket because they do not carry my insurance. It was apparent to him that I was not satisfied so then he asked me if I wanted free X-rays. What?? No Dr. I want what I paid for imagine that! A thorough cleaning by a hygienist who specializes in cleaning. It was NOT a thorough cleaning. What is the deal with this guy?? Does he think I was fishing for something free? If that wasn't enough, he apparently thought I was unable to express myself and felt the need to come up to me at the desk and tell me that he told me how to communicate with the receptionist. Last time I checked, I'm a grown A. woman who can competently express myself in the way I choose to when I am not satisfied. Does the receptionist not understand English? So what is the problem. It's unbelievable how patient and great he is with children. My son is has very sensitive nerves and all the unfamiliar sensations of a dentists office (vibrations, suctions, and worst of all drills), and is possibly the least cooperative patient in the history of dental patients everywhere, however Dr. Souferian has never shown any annoyance, impatience, or anger at the dangerous flailing my kid will do everytime he hears the doctor pick up an instrument (any instrument, the fear is complete). He is a thousand times more patient and understanding than I am, and has truly done a lot to ease my son's fears (not make them disappear, but certainly ease them!) As far as quality of work goes, I'm a patient of his also and I have no complaints on either of our care; teeth always feel clean after a cleaning, and Dr. Souferian does a great job of noting areas of concern without scaring his patients into unnecessary procedures. Even in a case whereas he could've pushed a more expensive solution - he is completely honest and candid about a more affordable fix. The office is handicap friendly - a worthy consideration for those who are mobility challenged. A particularly nice novelty is the practice is closed on Saturday but open on Sunday. This is very unique for Bay Ridge and invites those who can't schedule weekdays, the possibility of a Sunday appointment.
