Each grade offers children to work at their own pace, and children can learn curriculum in reading/math up to two grades above each grade they're in without a competitive feel between the children. NO IPADS which is amazing since all public schools use that now as a learning tool and I'd rather my daughter not learn via tapping her finger on a screen. There is an intentional effort to have healthier food options at events, ordered school lunches, birthdays in class, aftercare snacks, but there is also no judgement amongst parents or between admin and parents. They offer extracurricular classes for kids in TK and beyond. My daughter does keyboard and dance once a week after school, and it's really nice, she just stays an extra half hour and I pick her up when it's done, and she LOVES them. The aftercare program has been amazing compared to the other Montessori we went to prior to ECDS. We absolutely love our teachers this year, along with the extracurricular teachers we've met. Ms. Hayes is the new principal but has worked at the school for over 10-15 years, and she is just wonderful, caring, dedicated, and knowledgeable. It's a really good feeling as a parent to have the principal and teachers open and welcoming of communication, and allowing us to be involved with our child's experience at school. Our son started going to OPE after beginning in another elementary school in Encinitas in 2nd grade. We thought he was doing pretty well in the other school but after he transferred, we started seeing C's and D's instead of his previous B's. He was also seemingly unable to control his talking in the new environment, so we had him assessed and placed on a prescription and provided IEP support. Fast forward to 6th grade, and he is back on track with A's and B's and even getting recommendations to take honor classes next year in Middle School. I whole heartedly recommend this school. They have great teachers with high standards, amazing IEP staff to play catch up with students that need it, and their counselor Chastity is so wonderfully involved and truly cares about these kids with her whole heart. So thankful that we moved to Olivenhain in time to correct the course of our child!

It's been years in the making for this review as our child has long since graduated, but after…read morereflection I feel it necessary to reveal our experience at SFC Schools. Our child attended this " Christian place of learning" from 3rd-10th grade and the end result was us removing him from a very bad situation. The lower and middle schools were ok, although their academic standards are so low, it's actually a misleading misnomer to call it a Blue Ribbon School. However, the upper school is a cauldron of ugly, political, elitist, bullying poison that is condoned and promoted by unqualified teachers and administrators concerned only with the largest donors' kids. Our child was subjected to incessant bullying and verbal abuse by unchecked peers and was ostracized by faculty, administrators and coaches when it was brought to their attention. The best move we ever made was to remove our child from that place and return them to public school - where they flourished. But there was one ugly surprise during the transition - the academic level was so poor at SFC that our child had to take extra courses to catch up to the other students. Thankfully the new counselors guided us through this and by the start of Senior year, it was reconciled completely. DO NOT ever consider sending your child to this school past the lower levels unless you want them to be harassed or to turn out like the students who are harassing good kids out of spite and meanness. Our child was marred by it for many years and it feels good to finally write this after years of silence.

It all started in the winter of 2022, when we found out we'd be moving back to California. I was frantically searching for a preschool and hitting walls at every turn. I knew I wanted a Montessori-inspired approach, and I needed a school with room for both of my children. When I reached out to The Academy, they responded quickly and were so accommodating of the fact that we couldn't do an in-person tour. Kristine, who was the interim director at the time and has since become the director, did our tour over FaceTime and the moment it ended, I just knew. And the best part? It ended up being right down the road from the house we bought. If that doesn't scream meant to be, I don't know what does. My oldest started in the preschool class and my youngest in the young toddlers class. By the time my oldest graduated, he was more than ready for kindergarten and now the time has come for my youngest to do the same. I won't pretend I'm not going to cry on her last day. This school has been so much more than a preschool. It's been a place where I knew, without a doubt, that my children would be loved, protected, and given every opportunity to flourish. Every teacher we had was wonderful. The admin team consistently goes above and beyond for their families. Our previous preschool was a completely different experience. The constant staff turnover at this other school, meant our kids rarely had the same teacher twice, and it showed. The stability and consistency at The Academy has made all the difference. If you're a parent searching for the right place for your little one, look no further. Truly. My kids already ask if they can come back to visit. That says it all. Thank you to Kristine, Mallorie, Maricel, and every teacher who made our time there so meaningful and special. You will never fully know how much you all mean to our family. We have had a very positive experience here! I have an older son so this is also my fourth…read morepreschool so I feel like I have something to compare it to. My daughter started at 18 months. The teachers in the toddler classroom are so sweet and patient - Miss Monica and Miss Jayme. They are willing to work with whatever schedule you'd like to ease the children into the classroom. They are also very good at helping the children transition as many times this is their first place away from home. They have part time or full time schedules available. There is also an app and there are constant updates parents receive including lunch time, nap time, diapers and play time with pictures. I also love that there is a drive through drop off and pick up where the children are brought into school or out to the car. I'm a working mom and responsible for all the drop offs and pick ups and since my son attends another school, we don't have to get out of the car so this makes things much easier. The school also hosts some parent classes for free if you're interested. Cost wise for full time, it is on the higher end from what I've seen but it's cheaper than having a nanny which is what we had previously. I also believe it is reflected in the quality of care so it is worth it to me. I am happy we found this school and my son will be attending as well starting in a couple of weeks.

I'm happy to report that I was worried for nothing! My child was able to take Spanish 3, AP & Honors classes. He was also well prepared with the social & emotional tools he learned throughout the years to navigate the new social structure. He has come home many times telling me how grateful he was for his Middle School literature, math & since teachers for the good foundation they gave him as he sees other students struggling with concepts. He also didn't realize how special it was to be able to go directly to the Principal with ideas and projects and be supported & encouraged. It gave him the confidence to speak with adults and continue to pursue his passions.
