There were many different varieties of birds, and each one added to the experience. My partner and kids had a wonderful time, and we especially loved the beautiful koi pond as well. It was a peaceful, fun, and unique outing for the whole family. I would definitely recommend it to anyone who enjoys birds and wants a more interactive experience with them. One thing to keep in mind is that visitors are not allowed to hold or pet the birds. However, you can feed them, and if they choose to land on your arm, that's perfectly okay. One of the birds even hopped onto my son's arm, which was a highlight of the visit! Overall, a fantastic experience that we would happily do again.

Located in Del Mar near the festival, if your eyes are peeled open, it can be quite easy to miss. There's a few parking spots available. I came at 10am to see if I can register and walk in right away. They told me to come back at 11am. So I went across the street for a drink and then returned. It was a neat experience. You walk in and use hand sanitizers and get the instructions. If you're not a member you can handle the birds directly. You get a bowl of food and later can circle back to feed the fish. Some birds are outside their cages which is fun and you get some nice photos with them. The ones who ate from my bowl seemed to only really want the apples. The bowls had a mixtures of fruits and vegetables. The ones in the cages they tell you not to take out. Why? Don't know. Flight risk? For 15 bucks a person, it was a nice way to spend a hour and hear why some birds are the way they are (you'll have to ask the workers there why and they'll gladly share stories otherwise it's mostly a independent stroll through the sanctuary). Memberships are available if interested.

Companion Animal Hospital opened in March of 2013 under the umbrella of nonprofit Helen Woodward…read moreAnimal Center. They offer a variety of services to all cats and dogs. This includes orthopedic surgery, dentistry, ultrasound, laser therapy, preventative medicine, digital radiology, diagnostic internal medicine and routine care. My dog developed a skin growth on the outside of his leg that needed surgery. Initially I figured this was an easy fix. Just schedule the procedure then take my sweet boy home. Not so much, unless money is no object for you. The quote I received (from my local vet) shocked me. No way could I afford this. So began my exhaustive search. After many weeks I found Companion Animal Hospital. When I called them to ask for a quote they couldn't have been nicer and more helpful. Immediately they thought their price would be competitive however they needed to see my dog in person to verify. Upon arriving the receptionist and technician were very friendly and knowledgeable about dogs. I could tell every employee was genuinely an animal person. We went into a room right away and the appointment went really well. Both my dog Bear and myself genuinely liked Dr Garvey which in my book is a huge deal. Since my dog suffers from anxiety at the vet. She was very informative about answering all my questions and explaining what needed to be done. After the appointment I received a quote for the needed surgery and was completely relieved to see the price was four times less than the original quote at the other vet. So needless to say my dog received his surgery here, was in and out the same day with no problems or complications. His growth was benign so no worries about cancer, hallelujah. We returned a few weeks later for his suture removal. This was very quick and my dog was rewarded with the removal of the dreaded cone. I can't say enough good things about all of the staff here and Dr. Garvey. Thank you for saving my dog because essentially that is what happened. It may not have been life threatening at the time, however if I hadn't found you all then his growth would have kept getting worse. Potentially turning into a life threatening situation. I'm very thankful to everyone at Companion Animal Hospital and will sing your praises to everyone I know.

He was taken to the back for about 20 minutes, and when the staff returned, they told us they couldn't trim his nails because he was "being difficult" and "trying to bite." This was completely out of character for him. He could be stubborn, but he was a gentle, loving dog. When we brought him home, I noticed he was wheezing, but at the time I didn't think much of it. Within a few days, we were rushing him to urgent care at 1 a.m. in Poway because he was gasping for air, his tongue turning blue. I truly thought he was going to die in my arms on that terrifying drive. The vet told use his throat was very irritated, He was diagnosed with tracheal collapse - an injury we could do nothing to reverse. He suffered for the last month of his life before he ultimately passed away. This was the direct result of whatever happened in that back room, while he was in their care. The negligence that took place in that back room caused permanent damage and cost our dog his life. We are devastated. Please think very carefully before trusting this place with your pet.

We had not intended to adopt an elderly…read moredog, but we were so impressed with the organization, its volunteers, and how they cared for their dogs that we decided to meet him. And, we are so glad we did! One of the key factors in our decision to adopt such a senior dog was the care that he had received from Lab Rescuers. After they rescued him they saw that he had injuries that needed attention, and they paid for his surgeries/rehab so that he could live out the remaining years of his life healthy and without pain. It was obvious that the foster parents loved caring for him and all the other dogs they rescued. They communicated with us regularly, sharing all relevant information about him to ensure that the adoption was a good fit. They worked with our schedules to make the transition to our home easy, and they were incredibly supportive, making the adoption a successful experience for both our senior lab and us. In short, Lab Rescuers was incredible at every step and is an amazing organization to work with, and we feel so blessed to have found them.
