I don't know where to start with my praise for Mission Hospice!…read more I knew about hospice but I thought it was reserved for those who are in the actively dying stage. Boy, was I wrong! If you take anything away from this review, please know that hospice can and should start early so that your loved one is comfortable...not just for the days before their death but for weeks or months. Anyway, my Dad had dementia and was living in a memory care facility. They didn't recommend hospice until Dad was in the actively dying stage (we didn't realize). They referred us to Mission Hospice on a Saturday and Dad passed away on Thursday. From the moment Zachary arrived to do the assessment, until my Dad passed away, our experience with Mission was everything we could have wanted during this stressful time. Within 1 hour of Zachary's assessment, Dad was set up with a hospital bed, oxygen, pain medications, etc. Zachary was very patient and thorough, asking questions and allowing us to share our experience even if it was too much information! We received a visit from the Social Worker, Susan, and I must say that she was a blessing. She really cared about my Dad, my family and our experience. She allowed us to laugh, cry and share our fears and regrets. I felt safe to really express my sorrow and cry for the first time since this final stage began. Next came Pastor Don....he arrived in our life at the perfect moment. In the midst of guilt and remorse he helped me see things from a different perspective. Could we have done things differently with Dad's care? Perhaps. But did we do the absolute best we could with what we knew? Absolutely! We received daily visits from RN's, all of which were concerned, caring and took the time to answer all our questions. As for expenses, Mission handled all the paperwork with Medicare so we didn't have to do anything. If you are thinking about hospice but you're not sure if it's the right time, call Mission to talk it through. Don't rely on the hospital or the doctor or the care staff to bring it up...be proactive. I wish we had started sooner. Thank you Mission, for helping my Dad have a peaceful passing!

Placing a loved one in a facility can be overwhelming and Huntington Gate made us feel comfortable, safe and at peace with our decision. The owner, Phillip, knew all the right things to say and helped us along the way. He made us not feel guilty about or decision by explaining the round-the-clock care and how we could now rest and focus on being his family. Our caregiver, Tess and everyone else were so kind and knowledgeable. It's hard to be around such sadness, but they made us feel good. I wish we could have known them longer but my father-in-law went peacefully because of them and we are forever grateful.

The service staff were so wonderful in accommodating my parent's needs as they declined. The activities at the facility are top notch and the family celebrations are amazing. My parents loved the parties especially. The common areas are always decorated for the next festivity. The activity staff work so well in accommodating all levels of participation. The facility itself is beautiful. The owner, Bill and his wife are there frequently and their aging parents have lived there as well. They have added personal touches to the furnishings which make it feel so much like home. They know all the residents and much of the family by name. This agency was contacted a month ago by physician's office and accepted assignment per physician's…read moreorders. I was called by "Leah" who questioned orders and said she would call back tomorrow to make a nurse appointment for assessment and start of care. Silence for days as there was more discussion with doctor then calling me for same. They seemed to want orders changed and we spoke regarding my current company that could not staff. This all went back and forth until they pestered the company enough to secure discharge but not admitting whether they could staff. Once discharge was done by former company Leah admitted that neither the Los Angeles office nor the San Diego office could staff. For a company that covers this span of distance there was no excuse for this nearly month-long back and forth when they had no intention to staff as they had originally committed. This resulted in ridiculous waste of time for the doctor's employee and mine, missing out on service and continuing to decline. I had fully explained why the orders appeared the way they did and that nursing could be reduced. I believe that this constant dance was in order for me to be fully discharged by current agency, which succeeded, so that I would be desperate for at least some service, with no certainty of receiving necessary help. This didn't work. I was never seen for assessment or given a reason. This was a giant waste of time for me and doctor's staff and was inexcusable. This is a racket that fishes for assignment and accepts because they want to continue to receive doctor referrals for easy, brief patient care that can be denied and discharged soon. It gave them a bad look and I hope that future potential doctor assignments and patient acceptance of "care" be withheld due to unserious and manipulative , unfair delaying tactics to require orders to be reduced despite patient "qualification" and supported need. This is unethical and brutally shows no concern for patients in order to effect forced revision of care needs. Very sloppy, unprofessional tactics. I wasn't able to speak to Admin, Case Manager, or even a nurse to discuss and assess my needs and conditions. Be warned. THIS is their business, not appropriate patient care, but angling for less. Do not accept.

Therapists don't schedule ahead of time, cancel or change appointments last-moment, and they simply shrug their shoulders when WE lose out on care. We were supposed to get home health PT 3X a week for two weeks, then 2X a week for three weeks, then 1X a week thereafter until complete. Instead, we got nothing in week one, 1X a week in week two, then a couple weeks X2, then 1X a week, then... Just an absolute cluster of scheduling, which is terrible for the patient. Not recommended
