It was really more a replication of a small family room, complete with a fireplace, hearth with a basket of dog toys, fluffy dog pillow and cozy love seat. Book shelves filled with books, and other decorative touches made this a welcoming rather than clinical atmosphere. It was like sitting with a neighbor; her gentle pet touch is an examination. Gentle is the word that characterizes everything about this wellness center. Dr Sivula listened thoughtfully and, given his recommendations, well understood my concerns. Most impressive was the request for follow up ... the interest in knowing how my pet responds to a course of action. We're trying a nutritional approach with supplements. Brought my dogs to Dr Debra Decker. She left acupuncture needles in my dogs three times and did not…read moreappear concerned other than to indicate I can just throw them away. My regular vet told me that he does not like acupuncture as he had to do surgery on a dog who had a needle left in him by an acupuncturist. I found the needles after we got home. She is not certified in acupuncture which I learned late in the game . It became evident to me over time something was not right and then I researched it, I found she was not certified. She used an activator to "adjust" the spines of my dogs but I see no chiropractic certification listed. She mentioned she "took a class" versus hours and years of study required for certifications. My dogs came out limping twice after she did this on I called them the "limping twins." They were not limping before her treatment for which she is not certified by any organization to identify subluxations or treat. After her acupuncture of one of my dogs at 2PM, he came out at 3:30 PM and was sagging and splaying his back legs for 2 months until I took him to a certified acupuncturist who fixed the problem. Dr. Debra Decker did not address the problem as to why after her treatment he was more significantly hobbled, and told me to raise his food bowl and provide traction on the floor. This misses the point as he did not require that before 2PM that day. I told her on that day, before the treatment, that the dog was doing so well, walking further and not demonstrating weakness so you can imagine my confusion when he came out sagging/splay to the floor at his next meal. She gave my dogs B12 shots whether they needed them or not till I said I wanted blood testing before any more shots. We never got any more shots after I found out they had normal B12 levels. She also gave a shot of a homeopathic and when I asked her how long it lasts she said she did not know. I found Dr. Debra Decker to be symptom driven and reactive and not proactive as the definition of holistic implies. She dubs herself integrative and I did not experience that benefit either with my dogs conditions. I have worked with holistic/integrative vets for 25 years and she does not embody the paradigm in my experience. I find her continuing learning is absent as answers to my questions on things were met with "I don't know." Her approach in my experience was more western medicine, dealing with symptoms and not seeing imbalances before symptoms arise. She gave my dogs testing for Vitamin D and CRP. The results from the lab indicated potential actions that should be taken to aid in the diagnosis of inflammation one dog had, one of which Cancer as a possible source of the test results. I asked her for cancer testing and she said she didn't know of any. The very lab that suggested follow up to see if my dog had cancer offers a cancer marker test. This was on the dog's labwork in December of 2020 and May of 2021 and Dr. Decker never followed up on looking for cancer, twice. The test claims to identify cancer 6 months in advance. My dog was in fact diagnosed 6 months almost to the day of the May 2021 recommendation which she never followed up on, of a horrible cancer and died. Due diligence was not done. I told her changes in my dog's energy level, behavior etc... and she said "it's hot outside". I was the one who pinned down a problem with my dog's low albumin level over many blood samples taken in almost a year. Dr. Decker did not approach this as a holistic veterinarian, who would view the pattern of the blood value going down with each draw. Dr. Debra Decker charges fees for medical management but in my experience it is just a line on a bill. When I told her my dog was on an unbalanced diet she told me to just "keep doing what you are doing." Unbalanced diets over time are harmful and she does say she offers "nutrition counseling." I never experienced this offering even though my dog had a condition that required dietary intervention. Her extended charges are applied to laser several joints/areas. Right now I can get all of my dog's joints/areas lasered for 40 dollars versus 73 that she charged. She was going to give my dog a specific chinese herb for his kidney problem in June of 2021 and she gave him a totally different one for some problem he did not have. (but the other dog did have). Did she mix up the dogs? It happened more than once calling the dog the name of the other dog. I gave the herb to the dog for 2 months. After the August 12th acupuncture, my now dead dog developed a mass of 8 cm within one week in the spot she put an acupuncture needle into. At the next appointment in September, Dr. Debra Decker did not even look at the mass, nor did she examine my dog, as the line charge would imply, even though this was a huge change in the dog's medical status. She did not even touch the dog. It was after this appointment I decided enough was enough, paying over the standard for one star care.

I was charged for a fecal test before I ever brought it to them. About a month and a half ago, we were visiting family in Cleveland when we noticed our sweet boy…read moreBruce--our precious Shepherd/Retriever mix :) -- was irritated by his ear. He was itching, it was inflamed, as well as warm to the touch. Historically he has been through many ear infections before this due to suffering severe allergies, so we had an idea of what was going on. We go to a holistic approached, integrative vet in Charlotte, NC where we currently live. We gave them a call and got some ideas for holistic treatment for in-home, but were advised to go to the vet locally if it did not improve in about a day. Since I am writing this review, it obviously did not improve with in-home holistic approaches this time. So I researched for vets in Cleveland, and to my absolute joy Shaker Square came up. AND I read it was an integrative medicine vet...yes...PERFECTION!!!!! I was so excited, not to mention it is is only a few blocks down from where our family lives. ALL communication with the staff was seamless, and they made obtaining records and information from Bruce's current vet smooth as can be. They were friendly, efficient, and as concerned about our B-Dog's comfort as we were. So an appoint was easily made. We arrived for our appointment time to a clean environment (with a good smell--you know some vets do not accomplish this) with two ladies welcoming us at the front desk. There is coffee and tea for your enjoyment, and plentiful seating to wait until the appointments start. My pup is pretty comfortable in new environments, but you can tell when he is REALLY at ease, and he was. Just like he is at his home vet. Dr. Kim is amazing!! I have to brag a lot here..... I mean... he makes his own treats for the pups here--both dried and frozen. He is brilliant. Dr. Kim is an honest example of holistic and mindful. He is efficient in his work and deductive reasoning, he communicates his thoughts and treatment plans, and he is patient to answer any and all questions. He gave love and attention to Bruce, and was patient when Bruce though listening to heart tones was play time (he thinks everything is a game, honestly). He swabbed B's ear and ran thorough testing. Indeed, Bruce did have an ear infection, and a fairly severe one at that. Bruce had a lot going on in his ear and we all agreed medicine was the best way to go. Bruce was given an ear cleanser and medication. He used his (again HOMEMADE by his own hands) frozen slurpie to distract Bruce as he showed us the best way to clean and medicate the ear due to B being VERY irritated when someone gets close to his ears. It worked like a charm and he sent the frozen slurpie home with us to use when we treated in-home. I could go on and on, but 100%, come here. Dr. Kim is amazing, the environment is great, and I am SO grateful to have a place to be comfortable going when visiting Cleveland, which we do often. And Bruce 99% of the time travels with us. I trust them here like I trust our home vet, and that says a lot--Bruce is our #1 and we never go anywhere for him without initially vetting thoroughly. So, COME HERE for your vet needs--both traditional and holistic (aka: treatment and preventative)!!!
