I had a great experience. Makena was incredibly kind and sweet for the entire appointment and is GORGEOUS! Queen legend icon, I mean she was just fabulous. I hope she works here next year so I can see her again! Utah is probably so dull and ugly without her bright spirit. I hope she is thriving because she deserves it. Ok, it was awesome. I got 4 cartilage piercings and all of them didn't really hurt at all. Maybe a 2/10 on pain. Don't bash Makena for them not being symmetrical because I literally didn't want them to look symmetrical at all (I had different plans for them). Just a tip for anyone else getting a cartilage piercing - even though it didn't hurt, I did notice that the higher up on the ear you pierce, maybe the more you feel it. Or at least I did! The salon (would this be called a salon?) was pristine! I mean, it was just perfect. My mom told me she thought it looked Satanic but in my opinion it was everything I would ever want a tattoo shop to look like. It smelled incredibly clean and fresh! I really need to be given some air freshening tips from these people because it smelled like they just scrubbed the place with soap 50 times. When my mom got back from using the restroom she said it was "super beautiful." Not sure "super beautiful" would be my choice of words to describe a bathroom but I guess this tattoo shop's is. Makena kept giving me tips and complimenting my weird ears. I was like, "girl, says you. You're the one with ears blessed by angels and tattoos drawn by Gods." She should be on my inspiration board or something. I mean, she was just great. I think I'm starting to sound sarcastic with how much I loved Makena but I'm not being sarcastic. Can I fly to Hawaii just to go here and see Makena when I want a daith or some other piercing? Also! I saw Makena on two different days. It's not like she was just in a good mood on the day I got them pierced. Girl, she was in a good mood on all the days. On the first day I got there she was so nice when I scheduled my appointment. I was just reading Jo B's (from Texas) comment above and couldn't disagree more. I think somehow s/he thinks that using a reference for a tattoo is synonymous with tracing, or that somehow the world's greatest tattoos didn't have 'something' used as a reference: a painting; an existing drawing; a photograph; etc. I mean, you want the proportions correct, don't you?? I uploaded two photos in the gallery. Check them out---one with the stencil, and the other, the finished tattoo. My experience with Chucky was this: I came to him wanting a full back-piece of a Koi with Japanese finger water and cherry blossoms--mostly black and grey, with some splashes of color. "I" brought to our consultation 6 or 7 pictures of other tattoos that had elements I likes (fish position, water action, etc.). Chucky then dug through other tattoo reference books of Koi fish to find the right fish to fit my vision AND my body-type. Chucky then went through several drawings over the next few days (it's a back-piece!), draping "his" custom and totally original (but yes, of course, based on a real fish as a reference... we both want the proportions to be correct, duh!) drawing on me until things fit perfectly. Yes, he charged me a non-refundable deposit. That's standard practice. Who's going to invest hours of drawing for a client to just change his/her mind after all that? And then yes, Chucky thankfully charged me an hourly rate because it took 36 hours in total. He estimated it first and I'm glad we did things hourly because Chucky is super fast doesn't take lots of breaks, and it ended up being MUCH cheaper in the end than his original estimate. Chucky is an artist through and through. I've never had so many compliments on a tattoo, and this all came through Chucky working "with" me to find the very best tattoo concept for my body. read more

Chuck fixes my tattoo: I've had this ugly back piece for over 15 years. It was supposed to be 3 dolphins jumping out of a wave. It looked like they were coming out of a blue blob! This was my first tattoo and Justin was awesome! The shop is great. The staff is friendly. Everyone made me feel very comfortable and answered any questions I had. The custom art Justin drew up was exactly what I wanted. He had no issues making adjustments as requested and wanted to make sure I was thrilled with it.
