First off, I wanted to say that I do not take leaving negative reviews lightly. I've sat on this for 2 weeks so that I didn't leave an emotionally charged review. Believe me, I cried a lot for the first few days. I've left one other negative review for a business in my entire life so please know that this is not at all taken lightly. Paradise Maui is a cool shop. I did my research, as anyone should do when visiting a tattoo shop out of their normal go to artist(s). Alex was fun & nice when I stopped in to set up a tattoo. Looking through his work, he seems like a solid artist. Sadly, he's not the artist that tattooed me. Amy is new to the shop. I didn't have a chance to see her portfolio & with 5 star reviews for the shop, I didn't think it would be an issue. It is a big issue. Possibly an issue not fixable without expensive laser removal or an expensive cover up. I have over 50 tattoos that have all healed well. This one seemed as normal as the rest... at first. I have tattoos around my ankle, on my Achilles, covering my legs. I have never ever had a tattoo that was blown, where ink bled or was just ruined, as this one is. I have cried over this piece as it was my take home piece from the most beautiful place I've ever visited. Believe me when I say, I don't pick cheap places to be tattooed. I pick reputable shops & at home, I go to the same couple artists that I know & trust. I know tattooing. This isn't my first rodeo. Within 24 hours, the tattoo lines were all bleeding together with various parts completely blown out. I've had several reputable, local artists look at this piece & they are in shock over the work I had done & can't imagine how it even ended up this way. It looks really awful & it's in a spot that will be seen daily. When emailing Amy, she seemed to think that a blown out tattoo was just semi-norm with tattooing around the ankle/Achilles (which by the way was never mentioned to me Until I had an issue). Again, I have thin skin pieces all over the rest of my body. I have ankle pieces. I have never ever had anything look like this. Amy is nice & I feel bad leaving this review, but this tattoo is cringe worthy & really upsetting to me. Its a permanent piece & I'm heartbroken over the whole thing. I hope paradise Maui can do something to help remedy the situation. I'm not sure if I'm looking at a cover up or laser removal (it's that bad). read more

I got the pleasure to visit the beautiful Island of Maui for vacation. My partner and I had planned on getting tattooed during our stay. We made an appointment a couple weeks before which was very simple and Matt contacted us right away. We sent over our ideas and plans on what we wanted. Matt really made my vision come to life on my tattoo ideas I was giving him. He was super nice and very professional. We visited the shop a couple days prior to see our designs and even during my tattoo he was able to make changes if I suggest (size/placement). It's been a little over a month since I've gotten my tattoos since I got two and still are absolutely stunning and healed. My Polynesian style butterfly did "fade/loose ink"in some places which was explained that could happen and normal for a tattoo. I have other tattoos as well and knew it was a possibility. Matt was also so kind to fix a line on a tattoo I had which was extremely nice and I was so happy. I would definitely visit again if I ever go back to Maui. Had a great experience! I love my tattoos! I couldn't be happier with my tattoo from Alex, I absolutely love what he did, I wanted to change and add to an existing tattoo, Matt took a picture and the next day Alex had a design already made up that was exactly what I was looking for. Here I am, in the most gorgeous place on the planet, and across from my condo is Paradise Tattoo. 2 days before my trip is over, I decide I want a "pineapple sunset" so I can always have a little piece of paradise with me wherever I go. I got a next day appointment with Alex, no problem. Each artist has a portfolio of amazing work, so I would have been happy with anyone there. But Alex was my guy. I gave them a couple of examples and the next morning he had drawn up exactly what I wanted. The colors are vibrant and I love it! He was super cool, fun to chat with and made me feel comfortable. I have waited over two months to post my review so as to not make it emotional. First of all, let me say that the quality of work is fantastic. That is why I give two stars - both are for high quality. My disappointment, frustration and dissatisfaction is with the price I was charged. For my first tattoo at age 50, I had my daughters name put on my forearm. Her name is 6 letters long. From start to finish, the process took just under 1/2 hour. Upon further research at places on the isle of Maui and places locally here in Canada, it has become painfully evident that I was significantly overcharged at $250 US dollars. I should have walked out the door when I heard that price. My bad, I guess. Buyer beware and all. I suggest shopping around a lot before letting Paradise Tattoo do the work. I cannot in good faith, recommend this establishment. read more

I don't take leaving poor reviews lightly, but wish I would've seen something of this nature, so feel it's fair others know. I got script above both knees, and this is not where I would go for any type of lettering. Stencil looked great, nice placement but execution was poor. Matt said he's been tattooing for 22 years, but I was still surprised when the actual tattoo process took 5-6 minutes. Both leading letters have fine lines outside of the actual script where he went too far and did nothing to fix it, just left a tiny line (extending above on one knee and below on the other, outside the actual lettering). Maybe I shouldn't say tiny, the letters are about 3/4" and the line extensions are perhaps 1/8" and very noticeable. Where in another spot, the letter isn't even completed and ends above the rest of the script. One of the letters is completely crooked due to him blowing out the ink. Admittedly, at first glance it looked good and I didn't say anything at the shop. It was tough to tell what stencil was left and what was actually ink and it became more noticeable as it healed. Disappointing as I was raving about how fast he was, but the speed greatly effected the quality. Nice looking other places, but SKIP for script. read more

I was being probably rather annoying as it was my first tattoo and I was unsure, but Matt was patient and willing to help me in any way I needed. I did a lot of research on Tattoo shops in Kihei and almost a year ago I went to one for a touch up and they did a good job. This time I came to the island with an idea so I found Paradise Tattoo and read their reviews. I can tell you from first hand experience their 5 stars is warranted. I walked in and they were friendly, had lots of ideas and so I booked an appointment. A day later we went to the beach and a sea turtle sat on the beach all day sunning itself. This day also happened to be my birthday, so I took that as a sign and wanted a turtle tattoo. I had been conversing with Matt and when I told him I changed my mind and wanted a turtle he was excellent coming up with the ultimate design I have now. The pictures below show the crude drawing with my idea and the final design so perfectly imagined and executed.
