Jim did an amazing job on both my sea turtle tattoo and my mom's heart tattoo we got on our last day of our Mother/Daughters' Maui trip! My mom and I wanted something to remember the trip by and decided a tattoo would do it. This was my 4th one while it was the first for my mom. We walked in without an appointment, drawn to the name of the shop, and thankfully Jim had time. He was very personable and his shop is very clean with a nice mellow vibe. Jim has a clean, modern shop decorated with many of his own acrylic paintings. The following is the same review I did on Google: I had this brilliant idea of getting a Tattoo as a souvenir. I sent a picture of the design, the size, and location of where I'd like it to 6 different Tattoo shops in Maui along with a request for date, time, and, most importantly, a price estimate. Jim was the ONLY ONE who gave a price estimate and answered everything. Everyone else wanted me to call them to have a discussion; suggesting to stop by their shop, etc. I didn't have time for any of that. So, I picked Jim and stuck with it. Made an appointment on 2-12-21. Am I ever so glad I did! He is very nice and accommodating. I was in Maui with my family on vacation probably like everyone else, we went fishing and I caught a mahi mahi, so I decided to get it tattooed on my arm, he was able to get me in the day we flew out and he did an amazing job. Me and my fiancé wanted to get last minute tattoos on our vacation in Maui before we had to return home. We went to multiple shops in Kihei, Maui but didn't feel comfortable or accepted. Maui Jim is AWESOME! Ok, his name is Jim I just added the Maui part. I went to Octopus Ink while vacationing in Maui less than a week ago. I had always wanted a tattoo but had just never pulled the trigger. After checking out some tattoo shops on the island, I bumped into Octopus Ink. Most of shops I had been in weren't very helpful and I'm sure I wasn't a ton of help with it being my first tattoo and not totally sure what I wanted or where I wanted it. Jim was so personable and friendly. His laid back yet attentive attitude put me at ease in less than 5 minutes of being in the shop and he has a really cool dog in the shop as well. I checked out Jim's artwork on the wall which was amazing to say the least. His portraits are to die for. After discussing my options we decided on a plan and he had my sketch to me within a few hours. When I arrived the next day for my session he was totally prepared and ready to go. Jim took the time to make sure the placement was just right before we got started and I didn't feel rushed at all. My 1st tattoo was a 7in Chinese Dragon in color. Jim did an amazing job and got me through the 4 hour session without a hitch. He had a great collection of music playing, great stories and talked me through the tattoo without being overly dramatic or annoying. I love my tattoo and the color is amazing. Like I said, Jim is a true artist and his tattoos are great. Whether it's your 1st time or your 20th tattoo you HAVE to swing by and talk to Jim before you let anyone else tattoo you. The next morning I was not only planing my return trip to Maui, but what I would have Jim do next. Don't let the lack of reviews fool you. Jim left a kick ass studio in Portland before moving back to Maui. It's unfortunate his reviews don't carry over once you move locations because he would have tons and tons of reviews with all 5 stars if it did!! read more
