Why did he insist on shaving everything? Bad day and decided to take it out on a customer?

There is no free lunch. Shorn like a cue ball I guess I got what I paid for, unfortunately

I could care less for the salon. I have little desire to sit in a stylist's chair and have meaningless small talk while someone tries to sell me on hair treatments and pomade. I prefer a place where the cliental reminisce about better times and the haircuts are less than ten dollars! I started going to barbershops in my early twenties and haven't been a regular anywhere for a while. I had driven by Soulard Barber Shop several times before I decided to walk in earlier this summer, and I am glad to have a normal, cheap spot to get a haircut. If you're looking for something stylish or unique or want your shoulders rubbed while you sit in the chair, SBS is not your joint. If hair is more like a chore, this might be your place. I get a haircut every 1 1/2 to 2 months and always get it high and tight. Therefore, SBS is the right place for me. The price has gone up a dollar since I moved to Soulard (a hefty $7.75!), but the barbers are good guys and deserve a little tip! If you're live around the area and don't need the annoyance of salon style purgatory, then Soulard Barber Shop might work for you!

    The boy gets a trim.

Pol was efficient and did good work. No fuss, no chit chat -- just a solid haircut from a guy who knows his stuff.

Seems to have closed. If so, too bad, was a good old line barbershop, competent and inexpensive.

Solid cut from Pol for a great price, only took about 20 minutes. Cool old timey aesthetic.

Literally butchered my beard, told me the cut was free and kicked me out of the chair. Worse barber shop experience I've had.

Ask the Community - Soulard Barber Shop

Do you sharpen straight razors new ones they refer to as a blunt?

We do not sharpen straight razor blades. We use disposable straight razor blades. If we did use traditional straight razors, I would always sharpen a blunt before using. It establishes the edge of the blade to your personal sharping technique.

Finding stylists/barbers and dentists always seems to be one of those tricky things when you move…read moreto a new area. There are a ton of options, but it can take a while to find that right one that just meshes with your own tastes. You want that mixture of great service, price, and ease of access. I've been going to the same place to get my haircut for the last several years. Due to an unexpected emergency at the shop, I had to scramble to find a new place to get a haircut while under a deadline. I booked an appointment for Scissors & Scotch as it had great reviews online. When you walk in the first thing you encounter is a bar. Scissors & Scotch has a bit of an unusual model that I didn't expect. They work on a subscription basis so it is closer to joining a gym then just being a regular at at barber/salon. Depending upon what level you join at increases the type of alcohol you have access to (e.g. basic = draft beers, higher levels = top shelf liquor). It is kind of a nice idea, and the vibe is one that is unique to shops I've been to. The haircut I got was pretty good and the stylist I got was personable. Overall all of the staff were very welcoming. So given these positive things, why am I overall giving a relatively poor rating? Well, I had an appointment schedule and didn't actually get my haircut started until an hour after my booked time. I have kids and I was fitting in my haircut in on my way home from work. When I have an appointment, I need that to to actually happen. I don't have a lot of free time between work and family, so no matter now nice the trappings I don't want to sit there for an hour just spinning my wheels. I do need a beer on my way home from work, I need something that works with my busy schedule. The cost was also relatively high. It made me feel like I had to consume the include drink to remotely justify the price. That just didn't sit well with me at the end of the day. I can see for some guys it being worth the money to join the program and drop $100+ monthly for a haircut. For me the cost wasn't worth it (I'm a pretty straightforward cut). Again, the thing that really gave me a negative impression was the wasting an hour of my time.

Free drinks include whiskey, beer and cocktail I think. Everything went well and KT took great care of me. They offer a membership program for anyone looking for regular grooming.
