I came in a few weeks ago to get my haircut, without an appointment because I didn't realize they were appointment only, and John very graciously squeezed me in and gave me a card to call and make an appointment for next time. I called today to try and make an appointment, and a different man I spoke to informed me that they were a traditional barbershop and only cut men's hair. I told him that I had a very short, masculine style haircut, and had had my hair cut there before, and he told me I would have to call back Saturday when John was there to make an appointment, he wouldn't even set one up for me because I am a woman. read more

Great freakin job ya dig? My hair always looks good and styled and it is shortened properly with no frills or gimmicks and probably the dudes cutting your hair have been doing it for a millennia so you need worry about nothing at all. Beard trims too. Inexpensive af yet no skimping on quality or time. My only concern is that there is pretty much a wait of at least one person in front of you no matter what time you get there. Maybe an appointment is better? I should probably look into that and see if they schedule appointments to reduce the time you are there. My loved one was turned away from Soulard Barber Shop on 7th for being female bodied this morning by Pol. They're non-binary. They're a human being with human needs and they deserve to have their needs met. Gender, in whatever form, is not open for interpretation, it's fact. When I told him how I wanted the cut which is was really simple (cut the back and shorten it to match the top) he couldn't understand it. Just spent like 2 minute or less on back and kicked me out. My father started bringing me here in the 1980's. It's a beautiful place. If I could equate it to something it would be my Cheers experience. My father swore by this place for a haircut. I've been getting my hair cut at Soulard Barber Shop for at least 20 years, and I've been more than satisfied. It has three chairs, generally two barbers on duty, and it's the cheapest haircut in town - $7.75 as of this writing. In my experience, both John (the owner, who has white hair) and Pol (the guy with the Russian accent) will give you a good cut - including the neck shave others have mentioned, plus an eyebrow trim if you ask for it. My cut is pretty simple, so I can't comment on how they do on complex styles. But if you tell them what you want, odds are they'll be able to do it. Before the 2020 COVID-19 outbreak, it was strictly walk-in service, but now a reservation is strongly recommended, if not required. But that's easy; you can do it right here on Yelp, by phone, or even by stopping by in person. That lets you get in and get out of the shop in a minimum of time. Over the last few years they've redone the decor almost floor to ceiling. It's still hardly a palace, but it's warm, clean and comfortable. I have no complaints. My bottom line: If you just want your hair cut for a cheap price and without a lot of fuss, give Soulard Barber Shop a try. It's a truly local, veteran-owned small business that will be truly grateful for your patronage. read more

I could care less for the salon. I have little desire to sit in a stylist's chair and have meaningless small talk while someone tries to sell me on hair treatments and pomade. I prefer a place where the cliental reminisce about better times and the haircuts are less than ten dollars! If you're looking for something stylish or unique or want your shoulders rubbed while you sit in the chair, SBS is not your joint. If hair is more like a chore, this might be your place. I get a haircut every 1 1/2 to 2 months and always get it high and tight. Therefore, SBS is the right place for me. The price has gone up a dollar since I moved to Soulard (a hefty $7.75!), but the barbers are good guys and deserve a little tip! I kept my review short and in the middle of the road simply because I came here while running some errands looking for a straight razor shave. I'm not sure if it's because of the pandemic, but there are no longer straight razor shaves offered. Was in the area years ago and never noticed this place, but moved back and found this barber shop. I will say this place is definitely worth going to! Haven't had a straight razor shave yet, but planning on it. The staff is friendly and the price is unbeatable! Every time I go, I'm very satisfied with the end result. I've had both Pol and John cut my hair and the quality is excellent! Easy to find and also easy to make an appointment either online or by calling the shop. I am a fan of this place ever since I started coming here for my haircuts in 2008 when I was living downtown. I usually get the Russian but John and Tim are great too. It is located just South of Soulard's Restaurant on Broadway. It is just a couple blocks from the market and is open on Saturdays. When you walk in this shop, you grab a number. Hold on to that number until your turn comes up. Grab a seat and read the latest RFT. They usually have a 1950's-style radio station on. If you come here with the right expectations, you will be satisfied. The haircuts here are done with a buzzer for the most part with some scissor trimming done. Where else can you give a barber $10 including tip for a haircut? read more

For what it is, the Broadway Barber shop gets the job done at a very reasonable rate. Broadway Barber shop is conveniently located close to my house and place of business. It is also very close to the Soulard Farmers Market. In addition to being conveniently located, a haircut is the cheapest I found in St Louis ($6.75) and as long as they have two guys cutting hair, it is very fast. The only time I have had to wait more than 15 minutes is if there is a long line and one of the barbers is out. Now the bad. The décor is very dated and the cleanliness level will never be mistaken for a hospital operating room. The level of haircuts is also not very consistent. John and Tim are very good, while the third barber is not very good. Also I only think they do men's hair (or maybe the décor scares all the women away). Despite these factors I pretty much only go to Broadway barber shop as I can get a good cheap haircut very quickly. If you are not one of those people that needs to go to a stylist and don't feel like paying a lot for a haircut than Broadway Barber shop is a great place. read more

It's a Barber Shop. If you have been to Barber Shops before you understand the environment. They are not worried about decor or "styling" your hair, and Barber Shops certainly do not cut ladies' hair. The previous posts need to head to a salon or place that shampoos their hair.
