After ALL the rave from everyone around me, I finally got to try out SoulCycle in GT. Thank you Stephen! Let's get to it, especially for our first timers. This location is located close to the pier. It's about 2-3 blocks down to your right as soon as you enter into GT from Rosslyn. There's paid parking across the street and meter street parking. Remember, in DC, you pay before 10pm. And yes, they do check. Although, finding parking was not an issue during the weekdays. Ok once you enter, it's like walking into heaven or more like an Apple store. It's sooo bright and white. You'll be greeted by several staff wearing a bright shirt. First timers, you will need to fill out a waiver and sign in. First class is $20. The staff will give you an assigned bike and will assist you with getting adjusted to your bike- once it's time for class. Trust me they will explain everything to you and even give you great advice. So don't worry about being clueless. If you're carrying stuff and would like to store and clean up afterwards, no worries, lockers and showers are provided. Don't even bring a lock. You're able to create a password. It's literally like a gym. I call it the special studio. Shampoo, body wash, lotion, hair ties, blow dryer, facial wash, hand soap, sanitizers, razors, and swabs are provided. Is there a cost? Nope. You're getting what you're paying for. Lets talk soul cycling. Abby was great! Girl can sway to the beat! Something I still need to learn. The music was fun and felt like I was in some kind of music fest. Her choreography varies, from working the arms, push ups on certain songs, swaying to fast or slow beats using different levels of resistance to ab techniques. Lets just say, I was SWEATING and my boyfriend was too. He even enjoyed it. And we tried traditional and this one was definitely choreo. I am, believe it or not, a 5ft tall, thick, 155 pound gal who works out at least once a week- and as crazy as this workout was, I was able to push it. I may have been the only one on the heavy side and sitting most of the time (in that class) but heck! I had a blast! The prices are a bit steep for me. I was advice by a regular to know your limit. For instance, if you know you won't be attending as much start with just one class. If you start to come once a week then purchase 5 classes versus one. And so on. Overall, know your limit after giving the class a try. You can always add more as you go. So I suggest EVERYONE to try it once and to see how it is. You can go on your own pace until you get the hang of it. Get dowwwwn with cycling and put some soul into it. You'll know what I mean, when you go. Prices- These classes do expire First timer: $20 1 class : $30 5 class: $145 10 class: $280 What to Bring -Water for class -Extra water for after class -Extra clothes if you plan to shower afterwards -positive attitude and a smile! Dress Code -Light comfortable top, you will SWEAT -Tights, if you have shafting problems -Optional- bike shorts with padding if you tend to sit a lot-might sore your butt Definitely worth coming back! As for now, I'll do a bit more shopping since my location is further out west and not as close to the city.

    Or loose yourself in sweat!

First spin at Soul Cycle was a win! This location is about a mile from the Soul Cycle DuPont. Although not as "Metro" accessible, there are ample parking spaces at the Georgetown Waterfront parking meters (free for those brave enough to do their sweat sesh before 8AM) and a public parking garage. All equipment is new (bikes, shoes, towels, weights, lockers...), yet the team seems seasoned! There were at least two people in addition to the instructor who walked around the class helping to ensure bikes were properly adjusted. Shoes are provided have Keo cleats, but the pedals can accommodate both Keo and MTB cleats. I'd recommend requesting a shoe that is a half size bigger than your normal work shoe . I sat three rows back and could just barely see the instructor, but since the sound was so good, I truly didn't need to take my gaze off my imaginary road. The sound system was ideal as you could hear both the music and the instructor. I love getting to know a teacher by their music selection! Our instructor was high energy and played to the riders who needed the extra motivation, yet knew when to turn the lights down for inward focus. I have a feeling that no matter the mood you arrive, Soul Cycle will inject positivity into your day, so "tap it back" and give their new location a spin.

I'm continually impressed by SoulCycle! I even traveled across the entire country to try another studio! I kid! I am currently in DC for vacation and after the awesome experience I had at SC Hollywood I knew I had to do it again. This time I brought a friend. And it was a great way to kick start a Saturday. As a "tourist" the Georgetown studio was perfect for us. Gave us the opportunity to see just how adorable this subset of DC is. And adorable is an understatement. We arrived early, as it was my friends first time, and she filled out her waiver, we got shoes and we got lockers. After that it was smooth(ish) sailing. The class was HARD. but Alex was an amazing instructor. 45 minutes of pure entertainment on the bike. Tapping back. Pulsing. Pushing through the resistance. And everything above and beyond. Living in a city without a SoulCycle is a bummer but exploring different studios when I can is a great way to see just how awesome all of these studios are. Can't wait to try another one at some point!

I loved the theme of the class I took and the energy from the Soul Cycle crew and the instructor was lively and welcoming! My shoes, with Delta clips, fit their bikes and the bikes were easy enough to set up. Plus, the crew (and my bike neighbors) provided assistance. During the end of one class and the start of another, the lobby area can get a bit tight with all of the people but it's not a deal-breaker. I will definitely be back soon!!

So, I call to ask to be removed from the class. Apparently, it's a problem. Long story, short: they wouldn't remove me because they still offer the class and I called within the 12 hours. But y'all changed the schedule with less than 12 hours of notice? Like... I continue to be floored by the behaviors and actions of the managers/supervisors here. They're so inconsistent. There was a tornado warning and inclement weather earlier this year and they were like, "well, we're open so if you cancel within 12 hours, you'll be charged." Sighhhh Also, showers haven't been as clean lately and routinely smell like urine.

However, if the studio is flooded, the instructor is late, the sound system isn't working etc, (all of which I've experienced) we get nothing. The experienced and best instructors continue to leave. The new ones are ok but could benefit from more instruction. And their playlists are chosen by them, so it's very hit or miss. I don't really enjoy an instrumental ride for instance. And it's SO loud. I wear earplugs but it's still barely tolerable. On a positive note, the front desk people are very nice. Upon signing up for the 7 day pass, I received a text from Amir. Luckily, he was flexible and let me come at the end of March. As soon as I walked in, I was greeted by Isaac, who was extremely friendly and informative. We went through the entire walk through, and on my 2nd visit, he went over the prices. The only thing I didn't like is that they take down all the information from our Driver's License even if it's just a trial. Since this is considered a boutique gym, the classes are the main focus and driver for memberships. They get crazy busy and packed, but are only held at certain times of the day..and not Friday evenings. The classes include (but with different names): yoga, boxing, cycling and CS4. I was only able take one class--Ride with Lauren--and WOW it was fun and vibrant! I came back another day for leg day to try out the equipment. I was very fascinated by the TechnoGym equipment--beautiful, unique machines and all in pristine condition. There were SO MANY options for upper, lower, cardio, etc. Additionally, there is a separate cross fit area, where they hold classes and it is open to members. There is a recovery section, which includes compression sleeves, cryotherapy and massage chairs, which are convenient but I believe separate from the monthly gym membership. Also, there is a spa, whcih is definitely 3rd party and not included in the monthly membership. There is 2 hour parking available in the garage, which is validated at the front desk.

No matter what shape you are in, who you will be entrusting your body to is very important. I can say with full confidence that every single one of the what? three bad reviews? Of Sweatbox  should be cast aside because they are irrelevant since none of them talk about the actual sweat method and what it does to your body. Firstly, if you are worried if fat shaming/ageism exists here. The answer is a firm NO. I am older, I am overweight , and I was  welcomed with open arms, made a part of the family immediately, and that has not changed since the first class. I went to one OrangeTheory location a year or so back and was full on fat-and-age shamed and that made my self esteem spiral down into dark abyss for a very long time. Because words hurt, because I am already so vulnerable and frightened to cross the threshold of the gym, I need support, not otherwise. SweatBox is all welcoming, all inclusive type of place. Yes, they are located inside an exact copy of the Globo Gym from Dodgeball, (I got jokes) but just walk to the back of the first floor, to the Sweatbox counter, as far as I understand, gym and them are two separate entities. I purchased a 7-day, $34.00 unlimited trial pass online, came 30 minutes early for the instruction session (important to come early, instructors won't say no to you if you show up 5 minutes prior to class, but ultimately you are shorthanding yourself on the instruction part - don't you want to know as much as you can about bike set up, and components of training? And remember that instructors have other student s  to take care of prior to class) I began my training on Tuesday, September 3rd, 2019 and I made sure to come every day, dragging my self in sometimes, even if my body screamed to go get nachos instead. The instructors I've experienced during the trial week were: Alexx G Shawn M Kevin D Ashley D I loved all the instructors, Alexx is all tough love, just as described in his bio, but I love his light show and music choices. Kevin has an amazing aura and energy and makes you feel included. Then comes Ashley, wow. I don't know if she somehow hypnotizes the class, but you get in the zone, stop thinking of outside world, and all you focus on is her voice, her example poses, and her corrections, nothing else. At the end of the class, when you finally come to, you realize that you worked out for a full hour and  never looked at the clock once! Shawn is a rare soul. I have my collection of special, big hearted people, the list is short, but Shawn is on it. First of all the energy during his classes is through the roof, he is so charismatic, you WANT to do good to show him your appreciation. But my experience with him is also more personal. When I felt embarrassed, questioned myself, felt weak, cried like a baby after second class, Shawn in the gentlest of ways supported me, was there for me, helped me get past those hurdles and I cannot be more thankful. He always has words of encouragement, listens with attention, he is present. What an amazing human being. Combined with the music and the trainer giving you encouragement, spinning can be a really good cardio workout. It almost feels competitive with all the numbers and colors on the TV screens too. However, I don't understand the hype with $20-40 spin classes when I can do the same workout at the gym and push myself just as hard. I suppose it's worth it if you need that extra push, but I can't really afford $20-40 per class when i can get a membership at the gym for $30 a month. This was more of a hybrid spin/core class that utilizes TRX trainers, so there's that. And they do provide you with a heart rate monitor strap that gauges how hard you're working and calculate what intensity you should be at based on your endurance. The class itself was a 1:1 that introduced everyone to how a real class would go. We learned the basic movements on the TRX trainers and then were taught how to use the bikes. But it felt really rushed. The trainer was speaking so fast, I couldn't even really understand half of what he was saying. All in all, i got a good workout in though and I enjoyed the cold scented towel at the end.
