I've experienced sound baths with Jamie at her Eagle Rock location as well as when she performed monthly at my former yoga studio in East Hollywood... it was very popular and every time the studio was packed. I also used to take yoga classes sometimes in Burbank with Jamie and she would incorporate sound healing into the class which was really nice. Jamie is a consummate professional. Always kind, always on time (hauling all that equipment back-and-forth!), very educational about the healing applications of sound. She does a good job of getting people set up properly to have a good experience. I believe that the purpose of a sound bath is to train your brain and psyche into a state of peaceful neutrality. Some people get a bit of a high from it. Either way, It's a beautiful experience to share with other people and I've witnessed a lot of people get positive benefits out of it. I haven't taken any sound healing training sessions with Jamie but having known her for over 14 years I'm sure that she makes them very informative and fun. read more

I had an absolutely lovely experience. I had a look at the reviews before going, and I'm not gonna lie, but all the comments about the owners being sticklers for punctuality had me a little worried. So, I arrived even earlier than the recommended 15 minutes. And what I came to find is a very intentional, organized operation. Plastic boxes are provided at check-in, for your shoes and belongings that you place into a cubby. The room is mindfully and beautifully designed, clean, and orderly. They don't pack in as many people as they can to get their money's worth. And there were mats, pillows, eye masks, and crystals set up for a total of 8 people. The two owners work as a team, and begin with a brief "what to expect" and Q&A session. Then, for the theta class, they warm you up with a little partners rainstick exercise standing up (nothing too awkward)... then everyone lays back and gets situated, takes some deep breaths, and is transported by a magical medley of drums, synth speakers, singing bowls and gongs. If you've ever had acupuncture and sort of been in that blissful in-between state of delicious sleep and slight wakefulness... that was my experience. While I understand that some might be peeved about the strict no latecomers policy, anyone who actually has experienced this sound bath would probably understand why they run such a tight ship. Besides, punctuality is a nice way to enter into this (and any) intentional journey. Also... grow up! :) Would happily do it again! read more

Don't go here. They don't care about your individual experience. Maybe they're nicer to their corporate clients? Don't care, absolutely will not return. I've attended a few sound baths here since completing cancer treatment in 2022, and generally had a lovely time. However, my most recent visit this past Friday was awful. As usual, Robert was unpleasant checking us in (evidently his attitude is a well-known drawback per other reviews here), but I already knew that from previous visits. Fine, whatever, just get me to the sound bath. But when we walked in the room, we were blasted by a super strong smell (burnt peppermint oil? an exploding tin of tiger balm? something pungent intended, I guess, to mask whatever basement back room odors they're trying to cover), and I immediately started to feel ill. I stepped outside to The Odious Robert, described the terrible smell, and asked if we could come back on a different date. Instead of being sympathetic or helpful, he snapped "this event is sold out and because you're here, two other people weren't able to come." So we got our stuff and started to leave. Jamie also spoke to us before we left, said she didn't notice any particularly strong smell (IMPOSSIBLE), and asked me to email her about the issue. This place is misleading- it's not a sound bath "center". But a tiny ghetto room in a questionable strip mall that you have to enter in the back. I would say I'd have given this a higher rating had I not gone to an actual sound bath center in pagosa springs Colorado. This place doesn't hold a candle to it. I did like that they had you set your intention in the beginning and provided a crystal to use, along with a mat. But the room is so small and the acoustics are trash, you can hear the traffic from the street. I was also pretty uncomfortable at times so I'd recommend bringing your own bolster, blanket, mat to get really settled and comfortable. They also aren't very experienced with using different gongs for a really transcendal experience. Most of their gongs are not variety in sizes and they don't cycle through them during your session. They seemed very fake new age as a couple - but I think if you've never been before it's a good way to get acquainted with the practice. But do yourself a favor and find a better place to continue going to if you like it. read more

My friend gifted me a sound bath experience with Jamie for my birthday. I wanted to utilize it during in a important transitional part of my life where I could really just take an hour to fully be present and process everything I was going through internally. The process of redeeming the gift card and signing up for a New Moon Sound Bath was very easy. Jamie was kind enough to communicate with me while she was away on vacation. They send you a neat ticket that adds to your Apple wallet, which you can present the day of your session. I appreciate that each session is limited to about 8 people at a time. I'm not sure why the other reviewers were so negative, the space is rather quaint (I'll admit), but there was a generous amount of distance between you and your neighbors. Not sure if it was like this before COVID, but there were dividers safely distancing you from others, plenty of hand sanitizers in the room, and everyone remained masked. It was nice to have a few minutes to sit down together where Jamie and Robert gave us an intro on what the experience would be like. You can tell Jamie really enjoys this because she explained the origin of some gongs, and I didn't even know this entire world existed! Nonetheless, I felt like I was in the film Fantasia. I had been working through some anxiety and pressure leading up to a very important day, and I felt that I was able to process these emotions with the powerful rhythms and vibrations of the sound bath, all while maintaining focus on my breath and staying present. I felt like I made my own internal breakthroughs and for that I'm thankful to have had this experience. read more

This center is intimate, cozy, and home-y, and has been my go-to place for healing and meditation for a year now and I believe I've tried all their sound baths (no they're not all the same). I've been to several sound baths in the LA area and some abroad, at the top of my list is, and always will be the Breathwork sound bath (great for those who are willing put in a little more effort to get a lot more depth)! It's disheartening to see what others have said about Jamie and Robert as people, as I've come to know them over the last year and think they are truly amazing individuals who love what they do and care about the quality of their offerings. read more

I paid for two tickets for an event that was at 10:30am PDT on Sunday, August 20, 2023. I asked for a refund because there was a tropical storm warning, and many authoritative sources have said it was not safe to drive due to tropical storm force winds (39-73 mph) and the potential for flooding. For example, the National Weather Service warned that people living in Southern California should "hunker down" and "stay off the roads." The merchant said that they would only issue a refund if the event was canceled. They did not cancel the event. They also said I could transfer the tickets to other people, but that isn't helpful given the reason that we are unable to attend. I do not think it is reasonable for The Soundbath Center to expect me to put my life and my partner's life in danger to attend this event. I understand the need to have cancelation policies, but there have to be exceptions for emergencies. Governor Newson declared a State of Emergency in California due to the tropical storm. How is this not an acceptable reason to request a refund for a sound bath? This experience honestly makes me question The Soundbath Center as a "healing space." read more

DO NOT SPEND YOUR MONEY HERE!!! For starters the pictures are extremely deceiving. The place is super tiny, stuffy and in a dirty commercial location with zero parking. The gentleman who works there I believe his name is Roberts has NO BUSINESS being in the Wellnes world. These guys are fake and do not practice what they teach. I had an issue with being in such tight quarters massless with 8-10 individuals and was addressing a Covid concerns with Jamie when he stepped in to start yelling at me about my mask and how they are following local guidelines which by the way states you have to wear a mask INDOORS as of today. This so called man was so rude, disrespectful, combative and unprofessional. Jamie just sits there and co-signs his behavior. These sort of people are what make others skeptical to step into this world. They both lack authenticity and compassion. This team should NOT be training anyone until they do their own work within themselves as to why they feel it's okay to be so nasty with other human beings. I'm so sad and disappointed that there's people like this in wellness. PLEASE go find a genuine people who truly walk the walk. This was a waste of my time and energy. I doubt this place will be open much longer. ROBERT you need to be checked for talking to women the way you do. You should consider some anger management or maybe therapy to address your hostility and behavior toward women. Note: this business is now called The Soundbath Center. I tend to be very wary of anything that looks new-agey or metaphysical. It's just a bit weird for me. So I was a little reluctant to give this a try. However, I do believe in alternative therapies, especially those that appeal to the different senses. I love aromatherapy, for instance. But sound therapy? It made sense to me, but was this a scam? Or just the latest hipster trend of the month? Well, it may be trendy but I don't believe it's a scam by any stretch. Jamie, the owner of this place, doesn't promise that soundbaths are the answer to all of life's woes and ills. She doesn't claim it will change your life. And I love how she didn't do any pitching of her classes or private sessions. That was huge for me. So what's this thing about? You walk into Jamie's studio on Eagle Rock Blvd. You take off your shoes and place them in a cubby. You then choose one of ten mats that are lined up on the floor. Each mat has a blanket (rolled up into a pillow) and a lavender eye pillow with a tissue for sanitary purposes. Btw Jamie's studio is very clean. The mats, blankets, etc. were clean. I'm not a huge neat freak or germaphobe, but when you're trying to relax, you don't want any issues with those things. I liked how there was a nice comfy rug under the mats so that when you laid down, you were on a cushy yet firm surface. So after everyone lays down, Jamie gives a short intro. She tells you to just relax, that every soundbath experience is different (some may be more physical, visual, or mental), and to be present with the sounds. I saw this as an opportunity to be at a live concert of sorts. Jamie begins playing her impressive array of gongs and crystal bowls. The sounds were rich, deep and multilayered. I could feel the sound vibrations through the floor which was very cool. It was very relaxing and comforting. You literally do feel like you're taking a soothing bath in the sounds. They envelop you and cradle you in a warm and comforting embrace. Jamie plays for about 50 minutes and then allows a silent time of about 5 minutes for your body to absorb the sounds. Then she advises to slowly make your way to a sitting position. The time went so fast for me. I could have done another round of sounds. I really liked the experience. It was nice to get away from the hectic pace of life and enjoy these beautiful sounds in Jamie's studio. I asked Jamie about her services. She does basic soundbaths like this one and also longer sessions that include breathwork, reiki, or crystals. She offers group and individual sessions. She also teaches classes on becoming a soundbath practitioner. I liked her energy. She was approachable, explained things well, wasn't pushy, and frankly, she wasn't weird. Note: if you go to her studio for an appointment, her doors open 10 minutes before the appointment, no earlier. There is plenty of street parking and a cute cafe next door. For someone who is a true skeptic of these kind of things, I have to say I enjoyed it for what it is. It won't change your life or give you quick answers or solutions. But it will give you a chance to take a break from the thoughts in your head and the unglamorous realities of life, like bills, work, politics, etc. The sounds Jamie creates are truly beautiful, comforting, and relaxing...without any drugs or chemicals:) I recommend this for anyone who is open to experiencing different ways to relax or escape for a little bit. $35 for Jamie's group session. If you wish to go into a deeper meditative state, doing this regularly is the way to go. read more

I went to school at The Soundbath Center which Jamie owns and it was a big mistake. The guy Robert and Jamie used one FULL day of our training trying to sell us gongs instead of teaching us. Robert was rude to Jamie the whole time. He would cut her off while she was talking and correct her in front of the whole class. He was rude and very blunt when speaking. After the sound bath course was complete, it was a nightmare trying to get my certificate. She said she would review my homework and it would be "several days" and told me she didn't receive it sooo many times but I cc'd myself and I received it just fine. Ok so forget that part right? Then Jamie got irritated at me because I filled the homework sheet out incorrect and told me she was going to CHARGE me a fee because it was "taking too long." Nowhere on the contract does it say that but I feel they are just a bit money hungry and will charge where they can. A teacher is supposed to teach. To be patient with their students not get mad at them because they struggle on something. I would absolutely not recommend this school to anyone for sound bath training. These people are not zen. Well Jamie kind of is but Robert is absolutely not. Oh and I recommended a friend of mine who did a soundbath here and when she snored Robert PICKED UP her legs and SHOOK them! What happened to tapping her shoulder softly? If my friend had past trauma in her life that could have really messed her up. Shame on you Robert. Purchased three tickets pre-covid and finally got to schedule an in-person session. When we arrived, we didn't expect to see what we saw. The website and Yelp photos were very deceiving. The neighborhood seems a little sketchy and we didn't want to leave anything in the car. We drove around the back because we thought there was a parking lot and when we drove to the back, there was a man standing by the back door having a smoke break. I don't know about you, but I was expecting a nice place and a positive vibe. We lost out on $165 plus the gas driving from San Diego. I wish I looked at the Yelp reviews before purchasing a session with this business. I can see why there's no refunds. read more

Her sidekick, Robert, is weirdly agro. Super negative and harsh energy, the literal opposite of what a sound bath instructor is suppose to be, which is chill with ego in check. Not this guy lol. He took peoples tickets during check-in like it was a state fair ride, all gruff and annoyed. So weird. The male checking us in outside the door was very RUDE!!! He has a very strong smell of marijuana in him. No proper signage outside. The place is very small. With that much gongs and bowls it is not the right square footage of room. The acoustic is BAD. The tiny room is not well insulated, we can hear the vehicles passing by. Did not do any effects on me. My husband and I have been attending the mother of all sound baths, the Integratron in the desert in Landers, CA for almost a decade on our annual visits to the west coast from the coast of Maine and we have also participated in numerous other smaller sound baths. Just after moving to the west coast permanently I found these sound baths nearby in Eagle Rock; it had been a hell of a six months packing up our home of 20 years and moving across country and a sound bath was just what the doctor ordered. When we arrived, pretty early, there were two people and Jamie in the TINY space. We were not greeted, even though we had pretty much had to squeeze by the facilitator (who later turned out to be Jamie) as there is little room other than the mats in the space. The mats are maybe 12" from your neighbor, and there is room for maybe 10 people in the space. So it's pretty intimate space wise, and sound baths are a pretty intimate experience anyway, at least with all my previous experiences. The lack of acknowledgment felt weird, plus Jamie was talkin with the other people who were on their mats and then saying hello to people who came in that she apparently knew. So the atmosphere was less than welcoming, think hippie pretentious, new age-ey yet cold vibe. Perhaps we weren't her version of hip enough? Who knows. That same vibe continued at the end of the of the sound bath--we got up and left without so much as a nod or a smile from the facilitator, though we did try. One of the things we looked forward to with moving to the west coast was grounding ourselves with weekly sound baths. So, this, being our first LA sound bath experience, was incredibly disappointing; the lack of warmth, the lack of welcome or acknowledgment and the lack of connection facilitated by the host--I'll take my sound bath with love and kindness, thank you. Subsequently I found the amazing and welcome sound baths in Los Feliz at Sacred Light--upon entering the space we were greeted with warmth and kindness the first time and every time, and we attended every full moon sound bath until the Covid shut down. After the shutdown we continued with the streamed sound bath/deep breathing/emotion code healing throughout the pandemic and look forward to attending in person as soon as it opens back up. read more

If this is your thing you will really really enjoy the experience. I decided to come with my boyfriend because I got him a gift card. He totally loves ASMR and I thought this might be up his alley. So we went and it's kind of like going to a slumber party. All you do is dress comfortable, bring a yoga mat, or a blanket or a pillow. Think about bringing really sick and comfortable yoga mats or blankets since you're actually laying on the hard floor. And you really just laydown close to other people in the dark and listen to Jamie play her Gong and musical bowls. I didn't really know what to expect so when I started hearing The sounds that were coming out of the instruments it was really weird to me. It sounded very outerspace, new agey, and almost slightly creepy to me. I was also very sick the day that we went so I really just ended up taking a nap. However she has a huge following, she's really great, and I thought it was worth doing at least once in my life. My only suggestion is, when we bought the gift certificate and when we ended up actually redeeming it the price went up about four dollars. I really wish she was just able to honor the price that we paid for it. I'm not sure she's even aware of the issue because we bought the gift certificate through one of the venues that she uses. And the venue that I went to she was only there the first Friday of every month. However in a 12 month period a couple of the Fridays fall on major holidays like Fourth of July or New Year's. So the venue was kind enough to extend our gift certificate if we needed to but it never came to that. Overall a really fun experience to try and I think if you really love these types of instruments you will have a blast and love it. read more

I do not write reviews unless I had an extraordinary experience. This is the first negative review I have ever written. However, this experience was so horrific I feel an obligation to share it. I have been attending Jamie Ford's sound baths around Los Angeles since 2011, usually bringing 1 to 4 friends with me. We have supported her business with thousands of dollars over this time frame. I have driven from over an hour away to attend her retreats, individual sound baths, and sound baths with other practitioners. I was one of the first to support The Soundbath Center upon opening. Recently, due to being a single mom and grad student, I have not had the opportunity to attend as often. However, I treated myself to a sound bath at her studio on New Year's Day, desiring to set intentions for the New Year in peace and relaxation. When I tried the door, it was locked. I knocked. I was sincerely confused as I checked my phone and it was only 4:03pm. Robert Lee, a man who often works with Jamie, opened the door a crack and treated me with hostility from that moment on. He refused to let me in, although letting me in would have been much less disruptive than him telling me in a hostile and intimidating manner how I was interrupting the sound bath and needed to leave and go home without a refund. I was shocked as I have also done joint events with Robert and Jamie on several occasions. He said I checked a box upon signing up which said I knew it would start on time. I responded that I did not recall that verbiage, and they had always let in late arrivals. Furthermore, it was only 4:03pm. Usually people are drinking tea and arranging blankets at that time. Forty-five dollars is a lot of money for me and I rarely have time for recreation. No goods or services were given. Jamie Ford's The Soundbath Center stole my money, two hours of my time while driving, and my peace on the first day of the New Year. I went to Google to write a review; however, I found one with nearly the exact experience I had. If multiple people have had the same terrible experience, imagine the people who chose not to write. I read Jamie's response to the negative review and it said that this woman had not contacted her before writing the review. As Jamie and I have had a long business relationship spanning nearly a decade, I decided to give her the benefit of the doubt and the opportunity to see the situation from the customer's point of view before writing a negative review. Instead, Jamie responded in a self-righteous and vindictive manner. She wrote that I checked the box on late arrivals. I have since looked at the box I had checked. Not only are you under a time constraint in the EventBrite ticket buying process, there is so much fine print at the bottom it is ridiculous, right down to not touching the bowls and other items you must check before signing out. In my email to Jamie, I said that since I was a repeat customer, I just checked the boxes to sign out as I felt I knew the drill. If she has such a new and harsh policy of locking the doors and offering no refunds starting literally the minute after the event's start time in a high traffic city such as Los Angeles, she needs to make that the first and only thing and highlight it in all caps and red. Even in the reminder email, I had to scroll down multiple times to get to the fine print at the bottom of the email to see this information. Burying this harsh policy in a sea of verbiage near the end is unwise and I suggested she change it to make it more noticeable. Instead of thanking me for the suggestion, she doubled down on her assertion that it is acceptable and offered no refund. Furthermore, she said that I could have called them. Besides the fact that the email only has an address, I cannot call while I am navigating busy Los Angeles traffic; nor would I think she would pick up her phone while checking people into a sound bath. More importantly, it did not even cross my mind that being three minutes tardy would be an issue. If I was going to be fifteen minutes late, I would have pulled off the freeway and called. Although my loss on the first day of the new year was significant, if Jamie continues to treat her customers in such a manner, she will lose much more. Los Angeles has many sound bath opportunities. My friends and I will now be supporting other businesses. read more

Jamie is mentioned in the NYTIMES article about Sound Baths in todays NYTIMES. So I guess there will be more attention given to her and others doing these events. Here's my take: I've attended four sound baths. My experience was mixed.... Here's what I found: I entered the room, sat, then laid down on a yoga mat... the vibe is subduded. The sounds started, and swirled around and thru me..... her 'performance' is not laid back. The sounds are full and rich and layered. Very interesting and intriguing. The bowls and gong combinations are much more disonnate than I anticipated and for me I really liked most of it... .. fans of Ornette Colman or Jerry Garcia's space-jams would be proud! At two or three of the "sound baths" I honestly really felt the sound move and transport me... very realing and fun... I listened from a meditative sorta state, less thinking about and more feeling the sound Then it was over. I felt relaxed, but also a bit worn out... ......then Jamie started talking about the perfect acoustical match of her crystal bowls and gongs, and teh acoustically perfect this, and spritutally atuned that, and how sound energy is able to bend, and travel forever and how certain freqeuencies are more powerful... and my happy yoga spirit left my body I wanted to KILL HER. The use of words and terms in arbitray ways, and lack of any real idea that there is any basis for any of the things said, made me want to run away. For those of us who try and understand the world both as a physical place where real engineering applies and ALSO believe in the spiritual and mystical universe, we try and seperate the way we talk about each space (I like my planes & elevators and cars to be based on real world engineering dynamics so they move in intended ways). Alas Jamie has no boundries when it comes to using terms about sound in ways that are so far afield, you'd think sound is a magical fluid, that changes color as it does its faster than the speed of light tricks! That all said, I found the Sound Bath sonic portion of the event intriguing enough to attend 3 more times, but left ASAP at the end, before she started speaking! In 2 of the sessions her energy was much more manic and the sessions seemed less successful for most people there. For me, sound bath was and is an interesting experience, untill she (Jamie Ford) started to 'explain' it...... HOWEVER, there is a HUGE difference between an interesting or even mystical experience, and being told there is a 'real' explaination for what is going on..... I would be really interested in hearing a Sound Bath 'performed' by a skilled percussionist and would pay extra if there was NO explanation at the end..... read more

For what she does, she does it well, has a nice vibe and for all that is five stars. The reason I give three stars is because I truly don't get how I'm supposed to relax or drop into a slower brainwave state when I feel assaulted by an onslaught of constant overlapping sounds and all their overtones. Jamie is amazing and I truly enjoyed the sound bath and her sincerity and energy that she brings to the place and you can tell she is a genuine person and wants to help people. I really recommend doing a sound bath with her and checking out the space that she created there. However I should warn that if she is doing a class with the guy that does breathwork that you are aware he brings a very "rigid" and "know it all" "Bully" type attitude to the whole thing and ultimately he upholds a mentality that you have to do exactly what he is teaching and it is clear he is unaware that healing processes should be flexible and ultimately the practice of what he is teaching is just a gateway to healing possibilities and that it doesn't have to be done exactly to his book for it to work.... If you as a person like a gym coach, scheduled type of approach to breath work sessions then this is your guy but I personally like to work with practicioners that are sensitive to people's process and who hold a level of awareness that everyone is going through something you have no real idea about so should let each person process as they go and do what they need to do to move through the energy that comes up with breath work. Ultimatley the real teachers in the healing arts and the true masters are wise enough to know that they are the students themselves. It seems to me like this guy needs a little more time uniting the masculine and feminine energies in himself before he can call himself a practicioner and maybe could be of better service to a wider audience if he himself went to a silent meditation retreat. He needs to recognize that a true warrior follows their heart and flow and steps away from the master to listen to themselves and trust themselves and he needs to allow his students to do that. With this guy If you don't follow his protocol he does not like that and made it clear in the class. I feel like his intentions are well and he means well but definitely takes away from what Jamie does. Jamie is amazing and I think it's important that she pick partners who are in support with her vibe. I think if he can work to integrate more of the feminine energies with his masculine energy and approaches the class from a more open perspective and from the perspective of the student then he will be great. I think the potential is there and hopefully he comes around to more open and integrated approach in his teaching. In the end I really recommend Jamie and the sound bath. read more
