I was looking to upgrade my 2007 Nissan Murano stereo system, after doing some research for the best system and like most people heading to Best Buy to look at some options on systems and installations I became very frustrated with there empty customer service. (not a surprise) This led me to Sound Source, a place where I could spend my $$ on a local Oakland business. Allen was superb not only with helping me select the best stereo, but the whole process from beginning to end. He installed my Pioneer AVH-P4400BH to impeccable standards, with the KIT I had already purchased. I took my vehicle in knowing it would take all day given the complexity. Allen called me at the end of the day to let me know he ran into some hurdles with the steering wheel components, he told me to go to dinner and we would keep me posted. He called me at 8pm that evening to let me know he solved the situation and the car would be ready the next day, also giving me the option to install a better component for my IPOD! I picked it up the next day, and the system looked and sounded amazing. The quality of the work and the sound of the system was quite simply perfect- Everything worked to perfection the Bluetooth, IPOD & HD Radio. Allen then took the time to show me how the component worked. Later that day I was having fun with my stereo and the battery died. (Allen did warn me of this) since I was sitting in my driveway, the car not obviously running- This in turn created a problem with the steering wheel components. I called Allen the next morning, bought the car back in and Allen fixed within 1/2hr at no charge!! At the end of the day, I may have spent more $$, but it was entirely worth the extra money given the level service and confidence I received working with Allen. In today's age of installing new systems for your car, not many choices. Alan is the BEST. I called the morning I was supposed to leave for a two week road trip because I needed to get the radio replaced in my 1998 Ford e350, wanted something with Bluetooth. He was super accommodating of my tight schedule and was ready for me to come by at any point that morning that worked for me. He helped me out as soon as I arrived, was very knowledgeable about the products and gave me a run down of all of my options, and ended up advising me on what to get. The best part of him advising me was that he didn't try to sell me the most expensive thing, he actually sold me the cheapest thing they had! Hahah. He worked extremely fast and it was installed within 20 minutes. He genuinely seems to care about his customers as he also took a look at my tires and was talking to me about car security and how my model of van is often stolen, and then told me what precautions I should take to avoid that. Overall, it was a perfect experience. He didn't try to sell me on something expensive, he was quick and accommodating, and an all around friendly and great guy to do business with. SoundSource has installed alarm systems in three separate vehicles over the last 5 years. Two of these were tricky modifications: One to install electric door locks on a Tundra; other to alarm a Ridgeline cargo door for both swinging and lowering. Dealer alarm guy wouldn't touch the Ridgeline cargo door at any price. Installed a backup sensor system that makes backing up the Ridgeline much easier. Have also had two sound systems, one bare bones cheap. And one medium higher end. Both excellent values. read more

After a nightmare attempt at getting a stereo installed in Reno, I was shown the light of Sound Source. I called on a Tuesday to set up an appointment for the next day and Allen was very professional a courteous over the phone. I showed up the next day a bit early and Allen was out front sweeping the sidewalk. I was impressed that he actually took the pride in his business to keep it clean out front when most of the other shops had trash strewn about all over the place. Allen had all of the parts needed for the install and did the job quickly and flawlessly. Now it may seem like a no-brainer that he would have all the parts but the reason my first install attempt was such a nightmare was that I was sent to about 4 different stores looking for the install kit. Oh man, I cannot recommend this place enough. They are so accommodating, and cool. The selection is limited to just products they actually back and believe in, and there is no upselling, no scammy bs, just good honest down to earth legit business practices here. They even took the time to go over the new stereo with my wife and teach her how to use everything. I really don't understand why more owners don't follow this model, treat the customer with respect, like a person, be real, and don't try to get over on them. A little more than a year ago I had Allen install a Panasonic Navigation/Entertainment system in my aging Ford Explorer. He did a wonderful job, with service "above and beyond." The system worked perfectly until last week, when I started hearing random pops from the rear speaker. I walked into SoundSource yesterday, and instantly Allen recognized me and asked how my Panasonic system was. I had not seen him in a year, and he knew me instantly. That alone was enough to floor me! He diagnosed the problem quickly, and it turned out to be the factory installed rear speakers that he had connected to, in order to save me money a year earlier. We talked about alternatives, and I decided to simply disconnect that bass speaker. Allen said to bring it back today around noon and he would take care of it. (He was alone in the shop yesterday) I brought it in today, and an hour later (I walked next door for lunch) he called me and told it was ready. He _refused_ any money, even though he had spent over an hour on it, the problem appeared more than a year after his installation, and was not even on a part that he sold or installed. Alan installed Apple CarPlay in my Prius last month. I have a 2 1/2 hour-plus commute to and from work, so I wanted to have a system in my car that helped me easily navigate, talk, text, listen to podcasts, etc. through my phone. With the iOS 12 update, I can now use Waze through Apple CarPlay, which is a game changer for someone who has a long commute in the Bay Area because it has the most accurate traffic information. A little over a month later, the monitor on my CarPlay stopped displaying any images, though my phone was still connecting via Bluetooth. This happened on a Sunday so I called Alan, expecting to leave a message so he can call me back on Monday. Alan picked up, even though his shop was closed, and advised me he would need to perform a little research on the issue and get back to me on whether I can resolve the issue on my own or would need to take my car in. The next morning, he called me back and recommended that I bring my car in so he could inspect and fix the problem, which I did that same evening. Alan explained there could be a number of potential causes of the problem, which I didn't completely understand since my technical vocabulary is limited, but long story short, he fixed my CarPlay within 30 minutes and it's now working. I'm crossing my fingers that there won't be any additional problems. Although I'm bummed that I ran into an issue with my CarPlay, the fact that Alan was so responsive and was able and willing to immediately fix the problem is deserving of 5 stars. He is super accommodating and he stands by his work as his labor has a lifetime warranty. He won't try to upsell you and seems super honest. I just bought an used Integra not too long ago, and I needed an alarm system because I always park at the streets. I called them few days ago and asked for a quote. Allen was very informative, he gave me a reasonable price and told me what will be included in my package. I brought my BMW here to have an alarm installed and within hours it was finished. I could tell they went above and beyond because the guy told me that he ran into some complications that would require more money to fix but he went ahead and took care of it. I really like the customer service as well. The owner is very experienced and knowledgeable on his products and i can tell he takes pride in his work. Most audio places will find shortcuts to install your alarm and do a nasty job. But this place does it right. They make sure everything looks OEM and they do an extremely clean job. I also took my corolla here to get tinted and i have to say its the cleanest tint job ive ever seen and they cut by hand too! Other places wouldve had nasty cuts that are choppy but this guy is smooth. He knows which tint is good and provides lifetime warranty. Now your local $99 tint place doesnt do that. read more

I had a Viper alarm and remote start install in my 2013 truck, I was concern that the installation affects the truck computer somehow but my truck keeps working as usual and the alarm and remote start works very smooth. I came here in 2012 because I had some problems w/ my bluetooth (someone else installed) and it's connection to my stereo. I can't remember the suggestion he gave me but I ended up just buying a clip on bluetooth which works better than the expensive one I was trying to fix. Anyway, he displayed excellent customer service, and I recommended him to my mom and he tinted her windows. She really liked the work he did, and she didn't have any air bubbles. JUST got back from a drop in (called first) to have a busted stereo removed and my old stock stereo put back in. I talked to Allen on the phone, spoke with Allen at the shop and I think Allen did the work (though others are there working). He was helpful on the phone, friendly when there, and finished the work he said would probably take 35 mins in 20 or fewer. Wow, what can I that explains this place. I have been using this place since it has pretty much opened up. I will not trust my cars with anyone else. He is reasonable in price and does excellent work. I am into the import car scene and some of the other car electronics have been put in and it is sometimes very sloppy when it comes to the wiring. Allen cleaned it up and made it all look nice and neat. He has done many alarms, radio systems, and tinting for me over the years. I always recommend this place to my friends because you will not find a friendlier place who cares about the service they provide you.
