Highly Recommend - Honest, Skilled, and Fair! I had a Harmon Kardon subwoofer from my home theater setup that suddenly stopped working properly. The C8 power connector had come loose inside and wasn't making a solid connection. I called Phat Boyz Car Stereo in the morning, and they told me to just come on in. They took care of me the same day! About two hours later, they called me back to say it was ready. When I arrived, they tested the subwoofer right in front of me so I could see that it was working perfectly again. The total cost? Just $70, an incredibly reasonable price. For comparison, the shop up the street (SCAM Oakland Hi-Fi) quoted me $160 for the same repair. Phat Boyz saved me both time and money without any hassle. What really stood out was how professional, punctual, and genuinely kind the owners are. This is a true mom-and-pop shop where you can tell they take real pride in their craft. They're lovely people who clearly love what they do and treat every customer (and every repair) with care and respect. Rare 5 Star- I decided to buy a 3-way camera for my newest and most expensive vehicle knowing crime is up and I wasn't going to be doing ride share, I wanted the protections that I got while using one as a ride share driver. So I purchased; to date, my best unit under $200 (see picture) but I don't want to try and install the back window camera. I looked around for many local places and most of them had some ridiculous charge because I didn't want to buy the unit from them so I ended up making an appointment here. The guy that helped me I am sure is the owner. He began installing the wires and in-between he had a huge shipment he was expecting. He told me in advance that it was coming and in between him getting it in we began to chat a bit. No matter the location, look of and individual, what there heritage is or sex, I have to tell you people are people! This mandatory honored my military service and took care of my bill. I have people tell me all the time "thank you for your service" and it is still just as awkward and empty statement. This guy put his time, effort and money beside the statement. He didn't have to do that "You put your life in risk for us" he said. I went in because the guy up the street quoted me 1500$ to install an amp and 4 speakers, I thought that was absurd, so I got a second quote from these guys. They charged me $400. And it sounds great, I was very happy. But then I started to look closer. They wired my amp remote turn on directly to the battery, not the head unit where it's supposed to go. So it was on all the time, and one day my truck just wouldn't start be ause of it. They put the head unit in wrong, I had to fix that, and they did not tune the amp at all. I had singing coming out of my sub woofer. Bottom line,, I guess you get what you pay for. 1500$ was robbery, but for 400$ , I got f****d. read more

These guys are absolutely amazing, work incredibly hard (7 days/wk), have long-term experience with sound systems, and are much less expensive than other installers. I called on a Friday and owner Jose Sr. installed my speakers on Sunday morning! As a young female, it's hard to fine an honest shop when it comes to car repairs. After having a half-assed stereo system, and discovering one of my new speakers wasn't even working, I decided to go to Phat Boyz. I headed down and Jose greeted me and told me to pull my car to the back. I explained and showed him what was wrong and we assessed the car. He told me my options and I explained to him what I wanted. I explained that I had ran the wires myself and showed him my work. He adjusted where it was connected on the battery so it laid more flat. First, he reconnected the speaker that wasn't working because the wiring was loose from the work the previous shop did. Then, I decided to get a dual box, and he let me screw it together. I appreciate that he was honest with me about the prices and let me help. I enjoy learning how to do these things and being educated so I don't get played. Next, we switched out my amp and he let me prepare the wires and taught me how to connect them if they ever come loose. He answered my questions honestly, gave me a more than fair price, he worked fast, was very friendly and funny and thoroughly explained my options. I told him I'd go back for tweeters and an EQ later since he recommended that I start out small since my Honda Civic probably can't fit 5 15's in my trunk lol. Before I left, he ensured that I was satisfied with the work done and we tested it. Overall, I am very satisfied! My system sounds clear now and kicks hard, but not obnoxiously loud.
