My experience was very different and I'm sharing so others aren't surprised like I am with unmet expectations. To preface, I'd say I'm sensitive to loud, low frequency noises like car and motorcycle ignitions/engines, etc. Bird/nature sounds I could care less about. I contacted Richard for the former and asked if these windows would reduce the issue. He confidently, and with quite a condescending explanation, told me it would reduce the noise, but not eliminate, which I understood. I asked many questions, like if walls made any difference and he basically told me I didn't understand science and that's not how things work. Despite being turned off by our conversation, I was desperate to try to solve my noise issue so I signed the contract. I was also a little concerned about the fact that you pay everything up front, which generally is not how things work, but again, I went with it - much to my ultimate regret. I got the windows installed and immediately could hear there was no difference to the noises that I was looking to reduce. He, of course, argued with me and said there was (mind you after also telling me he is basically deaf in one ear). He told me I was too sensitive to noise and that the windows work. I was in shock. I called another company that specializes in residential soundproofing and they told me that 100% the walls make a difference and that without proper insulation, the windows would make no difference. So after Richard patronizingly told me that I would see a HUGE difference, his "science" was in fact incorrect. Yet I was out $12K. On top of this, I had issues with the windows - not closing all the way, gaps in the panes, cracking glass and paint chipping. While he did fix most of these issues, like the cracked glass, it was like pulling teeth and took forever to get even the minor issues resolved. He kept saying he would come with touch up paint - come to find out they use white out! I could have done that myself in the almost year I waited for him. The gap in one of the panes - the only one that had this issue, he told me was unfixable and it just is what it is. I paid $2K/window and this was the ONLY one with the issue. So instead of fixing it, he basically told me to go pound sand. To say I regret ever doing this, and particularly with Richard, is an understatement. He also kept showing up to my house much earlier than expected and then would get upset when I told him I wasn't available until our scheduled time. He is incredibly inflammatory and becomes easily agitated. He once got mad and yelled at me for texting him while he was driving. He called me to yell at me instead of just not checking his phone like a reasonable human. As you can see from his responses to people's reviews, he's incredibly defensive too. I recently received the soundproof windows. Richard was always extremely responsive to all texts, emails, and phonecalls. However, I am not receiving the sound reduction that I was expecting. I am not receiving the 75-95% sound reduction that is advertised. The noise that I am trying to resolve is motorcycle and car revving engine noises. The website advertised that the windows are completely customizable in terms of color. That is only partially true. I ordered a white frame and white window. The frame and window sash is white however there are 2 very noticeable gray strips on each window that face the interior of the room. I was not informed about this prior to the purchase. I was expecting everything to be white. There are some gaps in the corners of the window sash. There seems to have been some lack of attention to detail during production. We installed windows in the bedroom and they work well, dropping decibels from airplane/traffic noise from 47 to 43, which is actually a reasonable difference given how the dB scale works. It is not silent but it helps, and the windows are very high quality. 5 stars because Richard will work with you to maximize your success on the order and install. Trying to add soundproofing is very complicated and he will work hard to help you succeed. I tried a lot of hacky options to reduce noise but nothing worked well. We ordered over a dozen soundproof windows and two exterior soundproof storm doors from Richard. I'm happy to say that they did everything we were hoping they would do. We did a lot of research for "soundproof" windows and came across several different brands. We live near several highways and were hoping to reduce the noise coming into the home to enjoy our conversations and sleep. We went with Richard as he was the most responsive and reliable throughout the process. One thing to keep in mind when doing your research is your home's overall structure. We have your generic sheetrock/wood frame, which means that sound can travel through the walls, not just through the windows. Be mindful of this, as the windows will not render your home completely noise-free. In our case, the noise was reduced dramatically to the point where we could really enjoy our home. The doors work amazingly as well! The windows/doors are expensive, but Richard helped me save money by allowing me to pick up the windows from him and install them on my own. I live in Massachusetts, so I rented a u-haul, which was much cheaper than paying for freight/crating and installation costs. Installation seemed daunting, but if you have even minor handy skills, you can do it. I recommend taking your time. I installed the windows over a weekend and saved the doors for another weekend. I did all our windows solo but did need a hand when getting the doors on as they are heavy. Richard was great at providing me with a list of all the tools I needed; he even offered to come out to provide help for no cost if I needed it as well. The windows and doors look great too. You wouldn't notice the windows unless we pointed them out, and they operate very similarly to storm windows (another reason we went with these because we wanted to get fresh air easily as compared to other companies offering inserts). After living with the installed windows for about a year now, I can provide a detailed review of the soundproof windows provided by ezsoundproof.com The condo we are living in has a dog kennel and a busy bridge with lots of traffic across the street. We were not expecting the windows to provide soundproofing for all the noises, just cut it down enough so we can sleep in a bit on the weekends. I can honestly assess that the windows provide at a maximum 5% sound reduction. You can still hear traffic noises clearly on the bridge. You can hear each vehicle driving on the bridge or a noisier truck or motorcycle passing by. For the dog kennel and the excessive barking, I understand that barking from dogs are hard to "sound proof". The windows, however, does not provide any "sound proofing" from the barking at all. I was really excited to get my Soundproof windows, but I'm afraid they just don't do the job I expected. I've had them installed for about 3 months now, I wanted to see if I would feel any happier with the results. Sadly, I don't. After I installed them I asked Richard if he had any suggestions to improving the situation, but he did not. The good: Richard was responsive and helpful throughout the ordering process. The windows shipped in great condition out to Seattle. No problems with delivery and the packaging was nicely done. Installation was easy and the windows seem to be well made. They definitely do help with heat insulation, and the look is very minimal. The bad: Sound reduction is also very minimal (it's not none, but it's not much). I live near a highway, and from Richard's videos I really thought that these would help the noise situation - unfortunately I only get a reduction of around 3 dB when the windows are shut. While this is something, it isn't worth the price of the windows (to me anyway). I recently moved to another home in Boston that is on a busy and noisy street. Especially due to the fact the bus stop is right outside my bedroom window. If I could I would give it zero stars. We ordered 2 sets of these windows after lots of researching and have tried a number of solutions to reduce noise. This very very expense option was our last resort. After doing research and look up multiple reviews sites we thought this would be our final answer. When the windows finally came after 6 weeks we eagerly installed it according to the instructions. Mind you that these thousands of dollars product does not come with installation. I had to learn how to cute metals. To our disappointment, these windows did not make a difference. If any, maybe just a dash, and that would be a generous estimate. We thought maybe we didn't install it correctly or something wasn't right, so we called Richard Mann. He came to check out the windows, and said his windows are correct, and that's all he can do. He then goes on to insult our new home. Saying that the noise all comes from our walls that has soundboard in them, the roof, the central air vents. What I'm amazed is that he was extremely defensive. His website, same as any other soundproof window website claims that 90 percent of noise comes through the window, but he comes here and says all the noise come from everything else in the house! Then he started saying that we are too sensitive to noise. He told stories of all his happy customers. Well, he probably doesn't include anyone who isn't happy with this service on this website. He then goes on telling us about a customer who end up taking his "advice" and bought 5 layers of these windows, spending $50000 from him and still not satisfied. Richard's comment was to say that the customer's ears are too sensitive, and need to insulate the roof. Then he told us another story that a customer bought a whole wall of soundproof windows from him, and then it didn't help at all, because it's all the house's fault, so then after all that soundproof windows, the customer sees no improvement and sold the house. His suggestion to us is to rip off our brand new walls and roof and spray some insulation foams and put the walls back. How about his windows? He says his windows has done it's job. Please! Even when he measure it, the meter read 35 without closing the soundproof windows, and 30 when it is closed, with only little cars driving by. What kind of reduction difference is that? that's nothing! Our main noise concern are freight train horns blowing, and by how little noise reduction from the very expensive window that doesn't reduce noise, how is it going to improve the train noise? We are now sleeping in the guest bedroom, and just a couple of walls and doors are way better soundproof then his windows. 90% reduction, my head! His website claims 90% noise come through the windows, and his window can block 90% of sound. But he comes to our house to basically say that our house and our biological make up is every problem, 90% of our noise come through the house not the window. Why on earth does anyone needs these windows then? And why does he make false claims on his website? This turned ugly and all he can do is yell at us, say we are the problem, and his window has done everything, and he got a headache from talking to us and stormed out the house. For those who are happy with their windows from Richard I'm happy for them, but I am extremely unsatisfied and dumb founded how this just did not work for us AT ALL. We were not looking for a complete vacuum quietness, but it just did not reduce even 5% of noise for us. We are most unhappy with Richard's customer service. He is rude, defensive, insulting, makes false claims on his website, or rather did not disclose and give a complete picture of what it could be otherwise when it doesn't work. I bought a condo in Back Bay, in a building that literally overlooks I-90. The building is historic and architecturally significant, but the noise was unbelievable. I called Soundproof Window Treatments before buying it, and Richard Mann assured me that they could make a difference. On the basis of these conversations, I went ahead and bought the condo. We had agreed on sliding doors rather than panels because the extra gap space would stop the noise better. That design required the radiators to be moved, which we thought could be done -- not easy, but it could be done. The windows were ordered, and I paid upfront. As other reviewers have said, the windows are not cheap. In my case, the total cost was nearly $10,000, and that didn't include delivery or the cost of moving the radiators. Unfortunately, it turned out that my condo association had a problem with the radiators being moved. The radiators were inside my unit, so we assumed that moving them didn't require approval, but we were SO wrong! The association flat out refused to have the project go forward. The sliding doors had been manufactured at that point, so I couldn't cancel the order. I was facing the prospect of having to write off the $10,000 I had paid upfront. To Richard's credit, he was able to persuade the manufacturer to rework the windows into panels -- for an additional cost, of course, but at least the panels did not require that the radiators be moved. In addition, the condo association insisted on seeing an architect's plan and required all workers to be covered by workmen's comp. All of these resulted in extra costs and delays. In the end, the panels were installed, and they looked very good, almost as if they were not there at all. I wish I could say that they eliminated all the traffic noise, but . . . I guess the I-90 is a formidable noise-generator. It doesn't help that the noise bounces off the concrete walls, overpasses, and dividers that surround that part of I-90 near my condo. It would have taken a miracle to silence that. I will say that the noise level has diminished. I won't try to guess by how much, but I definitely hear a difference. It's much better than it used to be. I commend Richard for seeing the project through despite all of the unexpected obstacles. He was always available to answer questions and was extremely responsive. He arranged for an architect to draw up plans and replaced a subcontractor to comply with the association's concerns about workmen's comp. I was not at the condo during the installation, so he and his team did everything without my supervision (although the building's maintenance supervisor was around in my absence.) They did a great job. You can trust Richard. He follows through and tries to do what's fair. If you live in one of Boston's new luxury condos, though, DEFINITELY be careful about checking all of the details with your condo association first. Ask specifically whether they will approve the windows' appearance, all of the details of the installation, whether you need an architect's plan, and what sort of insurance coverage is required for all of the intallation team. Do not buy from this company. The windows we spent $1820.00 on do not work whatsoever and the owner refuses to back up his product. You can hear every single noise through them. There is no soundproofing whatsoever. You wouldn't know the windows are there they make so little difference. The window latches are defective and so hard to use that I cannot open and close the window on my own. He won't honor the 10 warranty on faulty products. He offered a refund if we returned the windows and then immediately reneged it. You are taking a huge risk buying these windows since you are completely stuck once they've been delivered. I have no idea for whom these windows would work but they are completely ineffective in our case. We live in a historic building in a very central part of Boston near Charles St, the Boston Common, and Beacon St. Although we love the location, one thing that always drove us crazy was the noise. Since our building is "historic", we're not allowed to make any changes to the exterior or appearance. After 5 months of sleeping badly, we did some internet research, and discovered Richard and Soundproof Window Treatments. I spoke briefly with Richard on the phone to get more information, and then scheduled an appointment. Richard came to the apartment, took window measurements, and gave us a very detailed estimate including shipping. We could hear everything, buses idling, sirens (Boston Med Center), horns, motorcycles. The fit and finish is all custom carpentry and consequently looks very good and fits in the existing window box perfectly. We live up in the northern mountains in Utah. We wanted sound proof windows to help reduce the street noise from our neighborhood since our house is on the only road leading in and out and we tend to get a lot of cars passing by. I was thrilled when I bought my first condo in Mission Hill. I was less thrilled when I spent my first night in my condo. The windows were so leaky that the wind shook the blinds and the noise of the city crept in. My husband and I live on Long Island, New York, and we recently purchased two custom soundproof windows for each of the second floor bedrooms of our townhouse from Soundproof Windows. These windows have significantly reduced the outside noises (train whistle in the distance, cars driving by, air conditioning unit), which had become bothersome for us. They look very nice and are clearly of very good quality. Richard Mann was extremely professional and reliable throughout the process, always returning our phone calls in a very timely manner and patiently and willingly answering our many questions and clarifying the details of the process of measuring, ordering and installing the windows. One of the windows had been damaged during delivery, and Richard was very helpful in having a replacement sent to us soon after, at no additional cost to us. One measurement tip for those who will be ordering custom windows: We would suggest using the LARGEST measurements of the window space for height and width if there are slight differences. read more

After using these windows for over 2 years, and reading some of the negative and positive reviews, this is what I've got to say: We live on a very busy corner with constant traffic--a real "test case" for such a thing. Bottom line is I believe the windows work OK. We still get considerable road noise, though not nearly as much as before, yet I believe a large portion of that current noise is from several sections in our wall that don't have the proper sound isolation. After initially installing the windows I was quite disappointed, as we still had lots of sound. So, the next step was to use "green glue" and sheet rock for more insulation on the walls, which helped considerably, but there was still lots of sound. I then complained and Richard came out to look at the situation. His conclusion, which I tend to agree with, is that most of our sound is coming through several places in the wall which were not reinforced with the green glue and sheet rock due to the existence of radiators. The windows were no longer the weakest link in the system. So, the windows do seem to work, as long as the windows are the weakest link in the system. If the walls or something else is the weaker link, sound comes through that, and it must be addressed. If most of the noise is coming through the windows, then these windows will likely work well to address that problem. If the noise comes from elsewhere, then those issues need to be addressed. I did find that Richard was personable and helpful, especially at first. He did seem a bit defensive and frustrated with my complaints, but I feel that's somewhat natural as so many people likely expect these windows to be somewhat of a one stop "cure" to what can be a far more complex noise problem with multiple issues which need addressing. The windows only address the window issue, not the walls or other issues, which may also be present, though I do suspect that typically windows are the weakest link to begin with, and are the first issues which need addressing. read more

My wife and I live near a busy road and were interested in changing our windows to add some additional sound proofing to the house. We had little experience with window replacement or home repairs, so we were delighted when we met Richard Mann. Richard is above all an honest and incredibly knowledgeable person in regards to home repairs, window designing and replacement, and sound proofing. Prior to meeting Richard, we had contacted three other window companies all of whom gave us estimates above $15,000 to replace all of our windows using aggressive sales tactics. What a welcome relief Richard was! Richard methodically explained to us the science of window sound proofing and then took us on a tour of his previous commissions. He explained to us that we did not need new windows, which were all less than 10 years old, but rather interior sound proofing windows. This alone saved us more than half on the prior estimates! Richard ordered our sound proofing windows and then had them installed in our house by his expert staff, all highly trained and experienced carpenters, handymen, and window installers. They were all professional and cleaned up after themselves, what a pleasant experience! Furthermore, Richard noted some additional repairs that needed to be done around he house and did them for free! What a refreshing experience! As a home-owner who has dealt with numerous contractors, handymen, and repairmen, I can wholeheartedly say that Richard is the most outstanding contractor I have ever dealt with. He is honest, hard-working, knowledgeable, and he's a great guy to boot! He is definitely worth your time! read more
