We signed with Zen Windows at the end of July after being told--in writing--that installation would happen within 4-6 weeks. It's now mid-November, and not only are the windows still not installed, but the installation date was just pushed again to mid-December--almost five months after signing. We specifically reviewed the timeline because we wanted this done before it gets cold. We have booked dog daycare which has to be rescheduled, it affects our schedules, plans, and will massively impact our work, which is WFH. The measuring process was chaotic. The person sent to measure always gave last-minute notice and had to come out multiple times because they kept miscounting the number of windows--always short by one. Communication throughout this process has been terrible. You have to constantly follow up for updates; Zen never reaches out proactively or takes ownership of delays. Every update comes only after you chase them. When we brought up these issues, the company's response was to blame the original sales rep, who is "no longer with them." Convenient excuse, but the timeline and promises were in writing. Zen has taken no accountability for the misinformation or poor service. Yes, they may be cheaper than competitors, but you truly get what you pay for--unreliable timelines, lack of professionalism, and customer service that's downright egregious. Buyer beware! read more

I contacted two window-replacement companies who refused the job citing bizarre problems with their insurance. A third was willing to take the job but wanted to come have an hourlong conversation with me about the specifications I wanted. Since I knew what I wanted, with Zen Windows I was able to make all my specifications online. No salesman came out to talk with me, only a technician to take the needed measurements. I hired Zen to replace 4 windows in my home 7 years ago. Horrible experience. I explained everything I wanted/needed, including insulation around the new windows to deal with drafts, and my requirements were ignored. Then the installers placed smaller windows inside the existing frames instead of using the correct larger window size, filling the gaps with raw wood that they chopped up out in the yard, and the window replacements are crap. Two have committed suicide (heard the loud CRACKS from across the room - the frames breaking, who knows why). Now they can't be opened or they slam down (once on my hand). I need to replace the crappy windows and I will NOT be calling Zen to do it! read more

I had some fairly significant water damage to a pair of windows in my Boston condo, and Matthew (the owner) responded to my call very quickly. At the time, I had thought we were going to have to rip out either the whole window set, or at least everything but the actual windows themselves, and since we're in a historic district, any replacements would have to meet a bunch of standards, and it looked like it would take several weeks to get the windows. Matthew took it upon himself to call around and do some additional research for us, including about some options we had never heard of before, some of which he didn't offer himself but was happy to direct us to someone who did. We ended up being able to (mostly) salvage our existing windows, so didn't end up needing Matthew's services in the end, but the fact that he took so much time to help us out -- even in ways that wouldn't have brought him any direct work -- was really commendable. If we do end up needing replacement windows in the future, he'll definitely be my first call. read more

Upon setting up the appointments, Matt was responsive, prompt, and friendly. Sent out all of the documents by email and we had a great paper trail. When we decided to replace 8 windows - nearly every window on the first floor of our 1920 house, we shivered with delight (and also the cold draft from said windows). We got multiple quotes, including those in-home creepy high-pressure sales pitches from Anderson Renewal masquerading as "free consultations" - and decided to go with Zen Windows because Matt was clear, concise, and not creepy. Zen Windows Boston manufactured, and installed, a replacement for a 1830s arch-top cottage style window for our home on Salem Commons. Their design fit right into the existing opening with almost exactly the same amount of clear glass area, and the divided light spacing as the existing unit. This was a challenging project with all the scrutiny of a "Historic" structure, and Zen handled all of the permitting and Historical Committee review. After taking detailed photos and measurements, the window was manufactured within 4 weeks. Installation took only 2 hours and was completed before cold weather set in. Have you ever tried to get a price on replacement windows, and not devote hours to listening to salesmen pitches, in your home, requiring both parties with names on the property to be present. Zen Windows provided excellent customer service all around. We had a tough job - replacing an old bay window, with the exterior stairway right outside making installation complicated. We called around for quotes from several companies, and while the pricing of the job with Zen was commensurate with the other quotes we received, the communication and customer service from Zen was far, far above par. We never had to chase them for information or timing. Matt responded immediately to every question. The installation was complicated and took longer than expected, but at no extra cost to us. The crew took care with every step of the installation and even when they hit roadblocks, we never felt like we couldn't count on them to do it, and do it right. They did tremendous work. The window is gorgeous. They left the place clean and neat afterwards.
