We recently got married in December and had Kyle Overbey as our DJ. We weren't sure how our guests would do on the dance floor, but wow were we shocked! Kyle had the floor packed all night! We gave him a limited playlist as we knew that he knows what works more than we do. He had people I never would have expected on the dance floor! He was a great MC and really kept the party going! When our wedding ended at midnight, we estimated that we still had 60-70 people on the dance floor. We could have kept the party going for a lot longer! He worked with some mysterious members of our bridal party to play a traditional song that ended our high school dances and was able to get everyone to participate. It was simply amazing and so meaningful for us! We had a brunch at our house the next day, and guests couldn't stop talking about how great the music was. They commented that they've been to weddings in the past that only play the latest hits that many of the middle aged and older guests don't recognize. Kyle played songs that everyone would know. When he played "Shout", people absolutely swarmed the dance floor. It was so memorable. Pricing is very affordable for the quality of the work. We would strongly suggest everyone use Sounds Abound. My wife and I used sounds abound for our wedding on 10/10/2015 at the Patrick Haley Mansion in Joliet. They could not have done a better job! Everything started off very well with a Skype consultation with Rufus to get an idea for what we were looking for. Next, we selected Kyle as our DJ with the middle package. We had another Skype meeting to go into a bit more detail what we wanted. He was very professional and very responsive. When our big day finally arrived, Kyle and his assistant was very low maintenance and followed our plan to a tee. He never gave into requests that were on our do not play list and was able to play music that was initially not in his massive music library. We were married on Saturday. We booked Sounds Abound about a year in advance of our wedding at their open house at their office in Naperville. The open house allowed us to see all of their products, meet some of the DJs, and come in contact with other vendors such as photographers and limo companies. Tony Ho MC'd our wedding--and he was outstanding. The dance floor was packed all night and Tony did a great job both serving as an MC during the dinner and toasts and as a DJ during the dancing. He was communicative with us in advance of our wedding and we were able to talk with him before the wedding to problem solve a few issues. In addition, we booked a photo booth about two weeks before our wedding. Everyone at the office was quite helpful in setting that up, and our wedding guests loved it. We received copies of the photos that everyone took at the end of the night, which was a great keepsake from our wedding. Overall, we can't overstate just how wonderful Sounds Abound and Tony were. We would recommend them to anyone we know who is getting married or would hire them again for a big event. read more

We set up with Kyle Overbey for our Wedding on 10/8/16. Kyle was very professional, always in contact, and willing to go out of his way to make our wedding great. The now wifey and I put together some awesome songs that we like, and Kyle took that and mixed in all the great songs for weddings, both new and old. Not one of the songs we said "do not play" was played. On top of this, he ended our night with a perfect song (Bohemian Rhapsody) that people are still talking about. Highly recommend. No issues. With wedding season around the corner, I want to ensure Sounds Abound (Vince in particular) receives a proper and accurate review from our wedding a few months back. We choose this vendor as a referral from my husband's buddy and based on the below reviews, I assumed they would put on a fantastic show for our NYE wedding. That assumption proved to be the worst decision made during our wedding planning. Our first meeting was at their Naperville location with Rufus (sp?) and Vince. Rufus was rough around the edges and wouldn't have been a good fit for our group, however, Vince on the other hand was eager and not booked for our date. Rufus advised us that Vince was new to the DJ scene but had an entire wedding season to get ready for our event. We left hesitant but felt their word meant something. Fast forward to the month before our wedding...we receive several emails that we needed to start building our play list. My husband and I are music FANATICS and spent an incredible amount of time creating a playlist that would fit not only our love for music but would have everyone on the dance floor all night long. The week before the wedding we finally nailed down a quick call with Vince to finalize our details. Vince noted how excited he was with our music choices and what he envisioned for the evening. I hung up the call feeling excited that Vince was going to create a night full of music memories. I could not have been more wrong. The night of wedding began with a quick intro to Vince and his sidekick and quickly turned disastrous minutes later. Vince forgot the flow of our wedding party into, screwed up names of our wedding party, didn't play our designated songs during cocktail hour, dinner service, and after dinner dancing, didn't announce our photo booth, almost forgot our garter/bouquet toss (we had to remind him 15 minutes before the midnight countdown), but mostly Vince didn't attempt to ever engage our guests to the dance floor - which was empty the majority of the evening. One of our guests requested a song and was subsequently denied - this song in particular was on our playlist. After returning from our honeymoon, I called SA and demanded to speak to the owner Ken. I advised Ken of our issues, where he proceeded to defend Vince and asked why I didn't say something the night of my wedding (really??). I then asked Ken to provide us with the number of songs we requested vs the number of songs Vince played. At the end of the day Vince played 1/3 (which I'm sure this number is padded) of our requested songs and I therefore asked for our entire cost to be refunded. Ken didn't refute my request, but I never felt any remorse by the company or even a simple apology from Vince. Sounds Abound single handily ruined the entertainment portion of our day and for that they deserve this review and 1 star. My advice to Vince - find a new gig, you are a self-righteous, inexperienced and horrendous DJ. ** Response to Ken - Ken, please don't get on here and state lies. The fact is that Vince played less than 1/3 of our songs...which is unacceptable. Vince did NOT check in with us throughout the evening, and there were several times where I (the bride) and my mother-in-law went to the DJ booth to liven up the music. As to why I didn't report issues the day of my wedding is simply because it is the day of my wedding...and your insensitivity to that fact is extremely telling of how you conduct business. Unless you were present that day, you have no clue what really went on. Vince had been given the tools to do his job (our song list) and he choose to play what he felt was best, miserably failing. Ken's refusal to take ownership in the company's failure is yet another sign of how they conduct business. I have 250 guests to support the bad service and all you have Vince's "word". Shame on you Ken and the entire team at Sounds Abound for your response and handling of our wedding. read more

If planning a wedding weren't hard enough, planning it from 2,000 miles away only makes it that much more difficult! Lucky for us, we chose Rufus as our DJ. Sounds Abound makes it so easy to work with them. The online portal for choosing music and making payments was so easy. Rufus was always just a phone call away. He spent hours going over everything from the overall theme of our day to the pronunciation of the wedding party. Being in the wedding industry myself, I know how important the DJ is! They along with the coordinator are kind of the conductor of the day. Rufus was so professional, but also super fun! The dance floor was packed all night! He did such a great job of feeling out the room. He also helped with speeches. I can't tell you how many guests told me that it was the most fun wedding they have ever been to, and I contribute so much of that to Rufus. Highly recommend! We also used their Photobooth. Always a hit at weddings. The operator ( I wish I could remember his name sorry) was kind enough to stay and extra hour because we lost time during dinner. I absolutely loved working with Sounds Abound for my daughter's 18th birthday party at Harry Caray's Banquets, where they are on the preferred vendors list. Their pricing was very affordable! Nicole Newman was my Entertainment Consultant, and she walked me through the whole process. It was made easier by their online planner, that allows you to essentially control the music and details for your event. My daughter and I chose Matt Ammons for our DJ, and he truly exceeded expectations! His voice alone was hypnotic! He masterfully controlled the program timing, all the announcements were spot on, and he played all the music on our list for a packed dance floor! He even found all of our specially requested YouTube music! On top of this, Nicole surprised me by joining the event as our Photo Booth attendant and she was just so delightful! Get that photo booth! We hired them for our wedding of about 170 people and they were amazing. Our wedding was in May and we still have people telling us how great our DJ was. Kyle played the best music and our dance floor was packed from the very first song until the very last song. We also used their open air photo booth and it was so worth it! All of our guests loved it and it was a great keepsake for us when we received the copies of all of the pictures of our guests. My husband and I were referred to Sounds Abound through a wedding showcase at our vendor (Arrowhead Golf Club in Wheaton). We could not be happier with our choice! We chose Kyle as our DJ and left it up to him to choose the emcee. Kyle has great energy, he kept everyone entertained and dancing the whole night! My husband and I hate being the center of attention so when we met with Kyle a few weeks before the wedding he had no problem agreeing to cut the first dance, father/daughter, and mother/son, music when we wanted with a smooth transition. Kyle also provided the music at our ceremony and the microphones. The music sounded great and the microphones remained clear despite the wind. Sounds Abound offers an online planner so that you can enter song you want played or you definitely do not want played. We also got the traditional photobooth, which was a big hit! We used the pictures in our guestbook. The guests definitely enjoyed taking unlimited pictures for 4 hours and using all the props provided! Great experience, great service! Our original DJ was in an accident and unable to perform at our wedding, but the office called me and had already solved the problem. David Wilner stepped in 3 days before our wedding and was amazing! With only a few days to prepare, David spent almost an hour on the phone with me going through every detail and every song choice. I felt like I made a new friend on that call - he totally 'got' my husband and I, our sense of humor and exactly the vibe we were going for. We used sounds about for our May Wedding. Gregg Eisel was our DJ and did a fantastic job. Gregg had two meetings with us beforehand to talk about our night and make sure he had all the details right. One over the internet and one at the Naperville offices. He did a great job introducing the important people, having us stand in the right spot at the right time so we looked like we knew what we were doing, and facilitating everything from the cake cutting to the first dance to the last song. He helped us pick out songs for things we didn't even know we needed to pick out songs for (cake cutting, for example), and he checked about three times that yes, we really did want to dedicate "Sexy B*tch" to the mother of the bride (inside joke, went over very well, in fact). The songs we put into the online wedding planner and the two or so semi-obscure songs we picked showed up as planned at different points in the night. Our Drum'n'Bass song came somewhere near the end when it was about time for some break dancing, and our Mashup was in the middle when our guests were just inebriated enough to notice it was unique and comment on that. Gregg stayed away from the "no" list and from all line and square and gangnam-esque songs, as requested, and played a bunch of seriously danceable songs that occasionally had me breaking away from conversations because "Oh, yeah, I definitely have to dance to this one". I think a good point to make about DJs is you want to pick a professional, who can be incredibly present throughout your wedding reception, attentive, command attention, and basically run the whole dance floor without stealing the center of attention. Gregg was there for every minute of the night, tracked me down when it was time for things like the bouquet toss, and made us look great the whole night. And we really appreciated that. As a company, Sounds Abound offers a realistically priced professional product. The ability to select your DJ from their website is a perk, because you can see all the different attitudes and styles. Disclaimer: I did not book with Sounds Abound Entertainment. This review is merely off of my consultation. I had high hopes for Sounds Abound - I was prepared to pay the deposit and book my date with them before I even walked in the door for the consultation. Rufus, who called to set up the appointment, was so helpful and answered all my questions. He was very professional and made me feel confident in this company. So, fast forward to the day of the consultation. Myself, my fiance, and my parents went to meet with Sounds Abound. When we got there, we were told that we were meeting with Gary - I was told I would be meeting with Rufus, but okay - no big deal. Well, first, Gary was late for our 10:00 a.m. appointment and he was CLEARLY less than sober (to say it nicely). Never asked if we had any questions. Didn't even ask what type of music we like, or what we were looking to get out of our DJ service. Instead, what he did tell us was why we needed two DJ's (we were already sold on choosing the package with 2 DJs...) but this went on for about 15 minutes. He also told us why they no longer use the big lighting projectors that they use to (went on for at least 5 minutes about this - why are you telling me about it, if you know longer use them?) Long story short - HUGE disappointment from the reviews I read online and my conversation with Rufus on the phone. I would NEVER trust them to basically run my wedding day, if they don't even bother coming to their consultations on time or sober. About a week after I met with them, I received an e-mail from Kyle following up to see if we were ready to book. I explained the situation and never heard back. Not even a response e-mail? What kind of company are you? Unprofessional... I would never recommend a friend to use this company for any event. read more

I almost want to do 2 completely different reviews. I used Sounds Abound for my DJ and my photobooth for my wedding this November. We worked with Matt Ammons as our DJ and he was AMAZING. We planned our wedding in 5 months, and so we booked our DJ pretty late in the game, about a month or a month and a half out from the wedding. From the start the company was easy to get a hold of on the phone, organized, sent helpful emails. I loved that we could upload all of our information online on our own, including song requests, etc. Our wedding was in Evanston, which is where we live, and Matt was willing to drive up and meet us in Park Ridge (a middle ground between us and Naperville), which I thought was super accommodating. The day of the wedding he was incredibly professional, kept everything running smoothly, and was easy to work with. I HIGHLY recommend him. However, why the 3 stars? This has to do with my photobooth experience. Other than booking my photobooth ahead of time, and picking out my package, I never met ahead of time or talked to anyone about the photobooth. The night of the wedding, the photobooth was all set up and in place, and as for the actual booth, it worked fine. HOWEVER, and this is a big however, the attendant, who didn't look much older than 18-20 years old, was so bizarre. He made weird comments throughout the night, and was actually pretty annoying. He was bossy with my guests, he told people no solos in the booth, or commanded them to do certain faces and actions. Multiple friends commented to me on how weird he was! However, this can be explained by the fact that multiple guests commented that our photobooth attendant was making frequent trips to our open bar and helping himself, something that appalled me. I found his behavior to be soooo unprofessional. He started packing up the photobooth props before our time was up, and I asked him, are we out of time, and he said no, but all signs pointed to yes, as he was packing everything away 30 minutes before the end of our contract! The last complaint has to do with some picture frames I bought for my guests. I had asked the hotel to put them out on a table near the photobooth, which they did. The photobooth attendant collected them up, and then refused to give them out to guests. We got married 5 years ago and had a wonderful experiance with everyone here. We LOVED our DJ-DAnny DIebold. I don't think he is there anymore though. But everyone there was so helpful and nice. It has taken me 7 months to write this review.. but I have wanted to since we got married. We got married last June and Keith was our DJ. He did a great job! We live out of town and planned our wedding from afar...so it was very helpful that Keith was able to meet with us when we were in town. It was also great that Sounds Abound had a very easy to use website for all of your DJ planning. & the week of the wedding Keith and I played phone tag, but finally got a chance to talk about last minute details. Without him calling, I would've forgotten in the chaos. Keith kept our entire group dancing all night long...and that is exactly what we wanted. He is super cool and very personable. I really only remember a few songs that I did not particularly enjoy...but as my friends went to ask him why he was playing them he explained they were geared to some of our older guests who would likely be leaving earlier than the rest. I get that. Sounds Abound was great! As a company they were super easy to deal with. Kyle skyped us from Chicago to Dallas to answer all of our questions and help us make the decision to book with them. They gave amazing discounts on other services...which helped us with having the photo booth set up that we wanted! I really have nothing negative to say. We gave him some guidance, told him what we listen to, but kind of left it there... he's a professional and we knew we'd leave it up to him to do his job. He rocked it. Reception was at Bobaks. They were great too. To me, it's important that the venue, photog, and DJ all work together. Weddings are all about timing and if one of the 3 doesn't want to cooperate it can be a big issue. I have to say Modern Image, Bobaks, and TONY HO from Sounds Abound all worked together really well. It was a seamless event from my observations as the groom. We won a free room of uplighting at a bridal expo and Sounds Abound provided that service for us. They were easy to communicate with and friendly. We had beautiful purple uplighting for the grand ballroom at the Bolingbrook Golf Club for our wedding. I do not know the name of the gentleman who set up and took down for us, but he made sure to introduce himself at the beginning of the night and asked me if I had any questions.
