I got charged a toll while riding hov which is crazy ...I've never purchased a transponder or anything and I got 3 random charges !

I mistakenly received a citation notice in the mail. I live in Los Angeles and I was getting ready for work at the time printed in the citation. I called the number provided in the letter and it was reviewed and found to be an error. The whole process including wait time was 5 minutes. The citation was dismissed right away. I think these are sent out using some sort of automated process, so these mistakes are bound to happen. Five stars for the quick resolution. read more

This is an organization which charges with impunity, does not answer phones, knowingly misleads its customers and has no accountability. Their transponders and tolls do not work. The County needs to step up and investigate and dismantle the toll fees for the 125 Fwy. read more

The Express Way maybe not for everyone and here's why. If you going North to the 54 West there is only two lanes. The Law in California says slower traffic must move to the right. Well on the 125 there are many that don't follow the law. Some will have a line of car be hide them driving slower and will not move over. Also I had a car cut me off while I'm passing in the very left land and then they slowed down. Let's talked about the toll booth and how many are not prepared to pay the toll efficiently. This action causes a line of cars to wait for some time to excess the expressway. The South Bay expressway could smooth out some of the bumps in the road way. Like the major one when you driving on the 54 east to merge on to the 125 South that on ramp bridge has a dip or hump that could cause someone to lose control. I know it's a lot more efficient than taking all the traffic lights on Otay lakes Rd or Sweet water road. Just take in mind the miles are longer but faster if you use the 125. I believe the experience would be so much better is drivers where prepared. If you have a transponders there is no line to wait for excess plus it a lot less that if you pay at the booth. Don't pay violations! - dispute it and make them provide photo evidence of your vehicle. Verify your vehicle, special stickers or wheels, maybe dent or body damage, or even a blurry plate photo. Got a violation in the mail, but wanted to despite. Disputing is made far too difficult. Didn't dispute, though they made an error and I've never driven there in my life & at the time of the violation I was elsewhere with the vehicle in question. The violation doesn't come with a photo of the vehicle in question... thus, they don't provide proof of the vehicle causing the violation. It's a total scam! I paid the violation online, only to have my CC details used in fraudulent charges after paying the fine... see the pattern of scamming here. This company isn't a state run company or organization... this toll shouldn't be there anymore because it's all been paid for by the people years ago! The website is now flagged by all browsers as unsafe and your information could be attacked... would've been good to know earlier. read more

It's pretty bad when you cancel your membership and they don't refund your money for four years and you don't know that you're getting a refund but when you try to get the refund, they can't get it to you so I won't ever get a new transponder again read more

I had no idea I was getting onto a toll road as I didn't see a sign heading south on the 125. There's probably one there but it's not obvious especially when you don't know the area. I don't mind paying the 2.50 but it made me late to a surgical appointment. Put bigger better signs up and get it marked on Google and Apple Maps and save people the frustration! read more

They don't update their website like they should, so then I have to call, which usually is not an issue. I take this toll road from time to time. I can honestly say this road is a speedway. I've lost count how many times other drivers will go 100 mph and tail you tying to force you off the lane. Then there are the slow drivers who go 50 mph tops the entire time. It's the worst of both worlds in regards to the typical California drivers on this road. There tends to be issues with the toll payment machines. There are times they close an on ramp for maintenance. On the most recent instance I had to u-turn to get on the opposite side of the road on Otay Lakes Road to get on the on ramp. Apparently everyone else had the same idea and it back logged the pay side of the toll road. I had to wait with about 5 cars ahead of me in line. They apparently upgraded the pay machine but make you go through extra steps which made it inefficient and longer to use. On the old machine you had a scan card option and a separate pay with money option without the machine prompting you which method of payment you wanted to use. The new machine asks you which method you want to use, you gotta punch the buttons accordingly, then use it. When I tried to use the card option it took about 30 seconds for the machine to take my card info. There was an idiot driver behind me who started yelling at me I needed to leave the card in the machine, which wasn't true because the machine makes it clear you "scan" your card through. It left me irritated that some dumb driver behind me thought he knew better, and I told him to calm down and wait. When I finally did drive away with a green light I dealt with super slow drivers in both lanes controlling who could pass. This all seemed like a set up as there was a CHP patrol unit hiding on the road in the dark right on the 54 merge. Thankfully I saw the unit with time to slow down after just speeding up to pass the one slow car that backed up the traffic because they apparently didn't have a gas pedal to use. I've made it a point to only use this toll road if I'm trying to get somewhere in the area faster. But for the $2.50 toll, the machines that don't work properly, and the idiot drivers who only know "fast" or "slow" I will gladly take a longer route 95 percent of the time. I want to point out I've actually seen drivers back out of the toll road on ramp (yes they drove backwards about 1000 yards), I've had someone in front on the pay side ask me if I could pay for them because they had no money, and I've seen a truck lose its payload of rolled up rugs on the freeway which my front bumper skid past once leaving a surface level scuff on my ride. This toll road is chaotic to say the least. read more

I submitted a claim in hopes that i could register a car that was accidentally taken off my SBX account that was august 16th it is now the 23rd and i check up on the claim hasn't been touched. It's extremely inconvenient to go online and pay it everyday as I don't get much time at home. Please answer the phones, I've been out on hold for 1-2 hours at a time and have screenshots to show. All I need is to talk to a representative but that seems impossible. Whenever I click the 1 to have someone call me back it says request can't be made. We use this when we're either crossing into Mexico through the Otay border, or taking or picking someone up at the CBX bridge crossing. I've always thought it was pricey since it's like $3.50 to go the entire length to the 905. You can pay with cash, debit or credit but it seems some have had issues with the card readers. I personally haven't so it's been ok. This will always be a toll road, it won't be payed off after any length of time. Shouldn't have to pay so much for a short distance but of course this is Gouge-afornia. Very nice rolling hills though and scenic. Cuts through Eastlake and Otay Ranch. It's a pleasant traffic-free drive, but don't think you can haul balls on here. I have spotted CHPs on this toll road. So basically if I'm on a limited time schedule I'll take this toll road, if not I don't mind driving an extra 5-6 miles without hesitation. read more

If it wasn't for the nice lady that helped fix my account this would be a 1 star review (or 0 if possible) however I have to give credit due where it's due. As most are probably aware this company recently updated its systems forcing users to create an account again. This system update has caused issues with delayed transponder charges. I woke up this morning to emails stating I owe almost $300 in fees and violations for using tolls. The nice lady explained that their systems are now taking upwards of 3 weeks to correctly post toll road trips to individual accounts. They need to fix this system immediately. We've been in the technological age for a while now. It shouldn't take almost 3 weeks to accurately record and post individual toll trips. On top of that I waited an hour and a half to talk someone. read more

First off they closed the NB lanes at Otay Lakes road to put in a new pay machine. three weeks later the machine is like a vending machine and works sometimes.... so they get us by having to pay online or calling in. They get an extra $2.00 because the machine froze up. The machine islike a vending machine with lots of buttons. KEEP IT SIMPLE S&&&&&, the old machine was insert card or cash and see ya. thats all now you have to read a tiny screen , 1/2 the size of this font .... input your pin, the new expensive talking machine doesn't prompt you to . Even advising that it may not be worthwhile to make purchase unless I anticipated utilizing the toll highway more than four times per month. Simply not prudent or cost effective to do so. They were extremely patient and informative in the various questions I put forth. Also, a real pleasure using the user-friendly website as I am not that proficient at websites and computers and such. Image appears to be of my vehicle PARKED and no lights on. How? If the violation was at 922pm, should there not be some rear lights lit or something in the image? I think this is a fraud. The most UN-USERFRIENDLY customer service website, EVER, for the South Bay Expressway!!! After spending an hour trying to log on to pay my FasTrak bill, I've given up and will just mail it in. How many freaking hoops do you have to jump through to bloody reset your password??? And you guys seriously want to send me to collections over the $25 I owe you?! REALLY??? What's more, I haven't even used my transponder but each month you keep tacking on a "service fee" and you've never explained where that money goes to. I ended up on this toll road from the Birch road exit unintentionally while driving in this area at night. While I live in San Diego, I had never been to this area before and I unwittingly trusted my navigation app onto the toll road, not realizing my mistake until it was too late. At night, the signage is especially unclear but even on a good day, because of the design of the on-ramp and exit, you are left in an unfortunate situation of being forced on to a toll road, and in my case, in the "fast track" lane, without realizing it. Furthermore, because of the dividers between the lanes, you would be unable to get over to the cash/credit machine once you'd realized the mistake. Therefore, you are left with the choice to continue or back up on an active roadway to use the other lane, which I actually saw when getting off the toll road on the first exit available to me. The customer service staff will tell you that the signage is very obvious however, there are a few factors working against this and trying to figure this all out at night doesn't help. In California, we are used to having the left lane be the HOV lane so having that be the cash/credit lane means solo drivers will favor the right lane and end up in the fast track lane with no way to pay by mistake. Secondly this is a 90 degree turn from a restricted right turn lane, so technically you're forced onto the toll road even if you realize the mistake as you're rounding the corner, but the big sign that goes over the road is a few hundred feet down the road so again, by the time you notice it is too late. Finally, other toll roads usually have stopper bars and a manned booth that make it more obvious but also physically obstruct entry onto the road without paying, so in my case I was unsure at the time whether I had even made a mistake as I was let on to the road. The cash credit kiosk is an otherwise discreet building with no lights and no barrier, so for me, seeing it in my rear view mirror I assumed it was a maintenance building and that the real toll road entrance was further down the road. I exited at the first exit available and found a different route to my destination that didn't involve toll roads. So in the end the fine that you are left with a fine that is 42.50, which was a tank of gas a few months ago, but now that gas is even more expensive that money is even more important. With the threat of having your registration put on hold this has the potential to be a stressful and expensive punishment for an honest mistake. I'm giving two stars because at least I was able to call and square things away, I did end up on the toll road so I would have been willing to pay the 2.50 but settled for a reduced fee. The point stands that if it had been more obvious or the option was available to me before I was aware I was using a toll road I would have chosen not to use it at all and took another route. Overall it feels that the design of this toll road system and the violations and consequences seems predatory and dishonest and that these toll roads, like speed cameras, make the most of their money from these fines and not from the actual toll. As much as they make claim that the signage is clear, the on ramp and signage is vague enough to create a dangerous situation where people are backing up on an active roadway to avoid the toll road. I saw this wit my own eyes and I'm sure they can find it on their traffic cameras. I have no problem paying for the use of a toll road I know I am using but in the future I will avoid this area. read more

Having to pay ridiculous fines on a toll road that is not clearly marked, with no working credit card machines or signs that explain how to take care of the charge. You only receive a form in the mail with a $40 fine on top of the $2.50 fee. So on 10/17/23 I took the 125 Toll Road southbound for the first time. When I got off at Otay Lakes Road there was a very long line at the toll booth. One car was there over 4 minutes. After 10 minutes (I could have arrived at my destination faster by NOT taking the toll road) I get to make my $2.50 payment. I swipe my card. Voice in machine says "Swipe Card." So I do this 5-6 times, having to open my door to reach the machine which keeps repeating the same thing. Finally, sensing the cars behind me are getting impatient I drive off. I ended up searching for how to pay after the fact and download Uproad app. Tried to pay that way but Uproad is having operational problems and can't process my payment. The other online payment outfit is shutting down so that's a NO. FINALLY I get on the SANDAG website and get the privilege of paying $4.50 for my toll which could not be made because the card reader was malfunctioning in the first place. Lesson learned. For occasional (Non FastTrak use) NEVER take the 125 toll road. read more

The absolute worst to try to deal with. Their toll booth is malfunctioning when we try to use a credit card, it wont take it for 3-4 minutes, we are blocking traffic but then it finally flashes green so we go then get a violation in the mail three weeks later. Been sitting on hold now for 25 minutes just trying to get a live person on the phone so we can report the malfunctioning toll booth. We have received two violations now in one month but we cant even get ahold of anyone to explain the situation. THE WORST!!!!
