I absolutely love South Beach! This was my second time visiting, and it was just as much fun as I remembered. The atmosphere was so lively, and even though it was super hot, I loved every minute of it. Since the FIFA World Cup was coming up, there were decorations and displays around the area that added to the excitement. It made the whole beach feel even more energetic. There's so much to do besides just relaxing on the sand. You can walk the beachfront trails, check out the outdoor workout areas, visit the nearby restaurants and shops, or simply enjoy the beautiful scenery. The beach itself was amazing. The sand was soft, the water was warm, and it was the perfect place to spend the day. Thankfully, our hotel included complimentary beach chairs, which made the experience even better. If your hotel doesn't provide them, you can always bring your own chairs or just relax on a towel or blankets. I love the Miami vibe, and South Beach is one of my favorite places to visit. Ah, the world famous South Beach, which is really a melting pot of all different kinds of people from all over the world. It's mostly tourists and spring breakers, but the diversity is really amazing. Plus, right along Ocean Drive, the row of buildings with 1950s style art deco architecture that is really cool. The street and the area has been featured in countless movies and TV shows. There are also clubs and all sorts of swanky hotels along this stretch, where people come to see and be seen. Just walking on the boardwalk, there is so much to take in. Plus there are bikes you can easily rent from bike exchange kiosks that allow you to ride on the path that stretches along the beach. People also walk this and its a very fun activity. The path is really well maintained and quite beautiful. The beach itself is classic powdery sand with waves rolling in to enjoy. The water is not too cold, but not too warm either. It's super crowded at certain times of day and certain times of year, and parking is limited, so plan accordingly. Five stars. read more

Beautiful weather with the sun out, but even if it rains or drizzled, it is so warm and still makes for a good beach day. Water is so clean. Truly so wonderful of a beach scene. Such a beautiful place to spend the day, with the pastel colors looking even better against the sunny Florida skies. You can walk along Ocean Drive, follow the paved path by the beach, or just enjoy the beach itself. There are plenty of cuisines to choose from and lots of shops for window shopping, and the classic cars lined up give the area a unique Miami vibe for photos. Later in the day it does get more crowded on the sidewalks, but parking at the 7th garage seemed to always have some availability. read more

If you're a tourist, South Beach is probably one of the reasons you're here. The actual beach is really wide and they keep the sand well-maintained. You can enjoy an expensive meal and gigantic drinks at one of the many places along Ocean Dr. You can check out some cool art deco buildings and Versace's mansion. You can shop at stores that they have all over the US but for some reason people feel the need to buy a giant suitcase and stock up here. All jokes aside, I have a soft spot for SoBe. I'd recommend exploring all of South Beach. There are some cool spots off the beaten path. And you absolutely must people watch. read more

I have been to South Beach many times. It is a great place to relax and for late night fun. South Beach (or SoBe) is the southern portion of Miami Beach. The first time I visited here, I was here for a week and enjoyed eating at a few of the dining establishments. The food here in South Beach is amazing. I also took in some of the nightly entertainment after grabbing some food. There is a lot to see and do here. Another time that I was Miami, I rented a convertible and drove down Ocean Drive. The weather was perfect and I enjoyed taking in the Art Deco buildings that I drove by. The scene here is very glamorous as many wealthy people own property around the beach. It is also very diverse. South Beach has a number of outdoor cafes, art galleries, fashion stores and gift shops. Even though it can be very touristy and traffic can get a little crazy at night, South Beach is always a fun time. I have enjoyed a couple of relaxing days on Miami Beach in the past. I love the palm trees and the cool ocean breeze around South Beach. The sand is white and the water is crystal clear with large waves. I have been here in the Fall and in the Summer and it is always sunny here. They have chairs, umbrellas and cabanas for rent if needed. SoBe, A truly nice place when you have a lot of money and you dont mind spending it just for the clout. I being a Miami Native know that there are better places where you get a bang for your buck. It is nice and the beach is beautiful both day and night time. I wanna say do not got to the beach (even if open) at night because police does canvas the area after dark so be careful. You will get a ticket or court appearance and if you're caught doing the nasty beware of jail time. Now that's out the way please enjoy responsibly. Park your car at public spaces or check for signs because they tow very savagely there. I know there is not much of what used to be but truly ocean drive is the best place to roam freely in SoBe. This area is what you think of when some one says "Miami vibes." The beach is wide, sandt, and has a walk where people cycle, power walk, and jog. (It was so packed with people moving fast I Lowkey got a little anxious) the water's usually warm. Right along the beach is Ocean Drive, which is a famous strip packed with colorful Art Deco buildings, restaurants, and bars. it's great for grabbing a drink and walking around, and at night it totally comes alive with neon lights, music, and nightlife, there's something for everyone, whether you want a chill cocktail or party. I once came here with my cousins over a decade ago, we went to a club until 6am and walked straight to the beach to watch the sun come up. Art-Deco lifeguard towers with pastel colors and unique shapes dotted the beach. During our stroll, we passed by Muscle Beach, a workout destination for calisthenics, weightlifting, and more. On Ocean Drive, we walked between neon lit palm trees and a lively sidewalk of restaurants and nightlife.  Any beach bum would love this place! South Beach is beautiful, that is why all the tourists flock there. It has over two miles of one of the best beaches. When I used to live in Broward County, I would occasionally visit. I used to bring my family and friends visiting me to this area. This place is lined with hotels, restaurants, and bars. It has that Art Deco look and a great nightlife. If you don't research where you're going for lunch/dinner, you can pay a hefty price for subpar food/drinks/service. I liked to go a few blocks in the city and find all the local hidden gems there; not on the main street, Collins Ave. There are great bars and restaurants in the area, just don't fall for the tourist traps. Also, I used to see on the news all the time down there regarding hit and runs; shootings; robberies; assaults, and just bad juju in the Miami beach area. I would suggest always be vigilant and keep your guard up; with anything beautiful there is the ugly under belly. Every year the the Food Network SoBe Wine and Food fest takes place there; it's always a good time if you can snag tickets. The area is beautiful day and night; just keep in mind there is high humidity most of the year. Overall, a beautiful place and definitely a bucket list location. read more

Nobody I am connected to that I can think of likes South Beach. Well, I guess I am a rebel because I do. There are issues like parking and some crime. But most big cities have this issue. The actual beach is nice, not my favorite. People tend to leave trash on the beach here and it does not get cleaned up quickly. There are some fun places to eat and drink. I like walking on Lincoln Road. What I like best is the International flair in this area. You can find someone from anywhere around the world in this area. I love that. If your looking for a beach that will keep you entertained and relaxed at the same time, look no further and head to South Beach! The first day we stopped by it was a legit hurricane outside. We decided to have a picnic and that was a hot mess. It was super windy, cloudy, and cold. Not only that but the seagulls and pigeons were on something. They were not scared of us one bit and kept approaching us for food. On the second day we had a total opposite experience. It was sunny, warm, and calm. We were able to set our towels / blankets down and relax while working on our tans. We were approached more then a couple times by promoters asking if we wanted free entry to clubs, parties, and or yacht parties but that was a hard pass. Not sure how legit that was.... Also, a few ppl were out with their coolers selling alcohol and "candy". How convenient. We people watched which was entertaining and saw a ton of BBL's walking around. They were looking more like humans with ant bodies, all unproportioned. I did wonder who did their procedures... Definitely give this beach a visit!! You will have FUN! read more

Just like Miami, Miami Beach isn't like any other place in the States. You feel like you have been teleported to somewhere in the Caribbean. Waters are a deep blue, sands are soft white, vendors are out on the beach selling whatever you want, and the women are beautiful. If you're lodging with a hotel, umbrellas and chairs are complimentary. Otherwise, you can rent them out for a price. I would recommend to get them, period, as winds can be gusty, the sun can easily scorch your skin, and let's be honest, beach days should be treated like a marathon, not a sprint. I wouldn't recommend leaving your valuables unattended, as South Beach is busy and petty thief can easily occur. We spent a great, windy Friday afternoon on South Beach, relaxing with a book and our smart phone, soaking in the Florida sun. It was pretty windy, enough that nobody was using portable umbrellas for fear of being blown away. It's also a great place to wade in the ocean, warmer than the SoCal Pacific waters. There is also a sandbar maybe 50 yards out from shore; didn't go out there but it looked it was shallow enough to stand on. It does protect the beach from any strong waves, so I guess you can ignore the old axiom and turn your back to the ocean (at least for a little bit). It was the perfect amount of people, enough to keep a lively crowd going, but enough space to find a good spot. It is also a wide beach, with a nice park between the sand and all hotels/restaurants, so it looks secluded. There are bike and walking/running paths that run parallel along the beach. We came on a weekday during offseason...I can imagine how busy and crazy it must get during busy time of the year and/or weekends. There are folks with cooler backpacks, hawking various things including alcohol. Some of them have a certain call/cry shouting out what they are selling: "Ice cold Corona here, MOdeLLLLOOOO!", very distinctive. Do you know how certain sounds or songs remind me of certain places or times? That distinctive call for beer will do that for me, I'm sure for Miami Beach. (It reminded me a little of the women pulling carts who sell fruit cups on the SoCal beaches....with the cry: "Mango, mango, MangOOOOOeees). read more

The famous South Beach. It had beautiful white sands, that lifeguard tower where everyone takes pictures with, and that stunning view of the ocean. You'll be able to see cruise ships leave the port like Carnival. Last time I was here I did all of the touristy stuff in Miami, this beach was on my list. You'll find showers to rinse off, make sure you rinse your feet really good. They have bathrooms to change. That lifeguard tower they like to change up the colors. I'm sure there are probably better beaches in Florida, but so far South Beach is our favorite. They have plenty of real estate to park yourself at near the water. It definitely has the clearest water than those beaches on the west side of the state in the Gulf. The sand is whiter and definitely hotter than the Gulf beaches we went to on this vacation, and like I said, the water is clearer. Just be aware of those people that are trying to sell you alcohol drinks on the beach will sell you watered down drinks that aren't worth it. The beaches around Florida offer beautiful sand, warm waters, and almost perfect weather, but if you are looking for something fun and want to enjoy a colorful walk on the beach, check out Miami Beach and it's stretch of uniquely designed and artistically painted Lifeguard Towers. Just know that parking can be challenging. The walk according to google is approximately 7.9 miles. Google says it will take about 2 hours and 35 minutes to walk the stretch. But when walking along the beach, plan at least double that time. Longer if you plan to stop and take pictures and enjoy the lifeguard towers. One theme that is represented in all of the towers is the vibrant colors. Miami is known for the art deco appeal and the beach is no exception. Some of the more popular designs have more than one location on the beach in varying colors. You can see me at my favorite tower, mainly because my swimsuit worked with the color theme. For those feeling a little more adventurous, you can go topless at Haulover Beach, which is up the A1A about 10 miles which is a beautiful 30 minute drive along the beach. The best way to see the lifeguard towers is to stay at one of the hotels in the middle of the path. Then you can take your time and enjoy the walk in both directions at different times rather than doing the whole stretch at once. If you want to go for a day trip, there are 3 parks you can start at. On the south end, start at South Pointe Park Pier and walk north. These first 2 miles are known as South Beach (SoBe). In the middle is Indian Beach Park and at the north end is North Shore Open Space Park. PRO TIP: lather up with SPF, consider a hat, and bring comfortable footwear. read more

For a public beach in Miami, I was very pleasantly surprised. Parking and driving was a disaster but like Miami. I was expecting it. Walking here was an absolute delight- great walk ways and sidewalks. Some sketchy people as the sun went down but overall had a good mix of ages and backgrounds. Families and singles. People laying out as well as being active. One might call it versatile. The beach was super clean and not too crowded. Great (and cute) lifeguard stands all over the shore. World famous "beautiful people" South Beach was very different 50-60-70 + years ago. In 1920, the Miami Beach land boom began. South Beach's main streets (5th Street, Alton Road, Collins Avenue, Washington Avenue, and Ocean Drive) were all beginning to experience automobile traffic. The population was growing in the 1920s, and several millionaires such as Harvey Firestone, J.C. Penney, Harry C. Stutz, Albert Champion, Frank Seiberling, and Rockwell LaGorce built homes on Miami Beach. President Warren G. Harding stayed at the Flamingo Hotel during this time, increasing interest in the area. In the 1930s, an architectural revolution came to South Beach, bringing Art Deco, Streamline Moderne, and Nautical Moderne architecture to the Beach. South Beach claims to be the world's largest collection of Streamline Moderne Art Deco architecture. In 1964, South Beach became famous when Jackie Gleason brought his weekly variety series, The Jackie Gleason Show to the area for taping, a rarity in the industry. Beginning in the mid 1960s and continuing through the 1980s, South Beach was used as a retirement community with most of its ocean-front hotels and apartment buildings filled with elderly people living on small, fixed incomes. This period also saw drug dealers who used the area as a base for their illicit drug activities. The movie Scarface, released in 1983, typified this activity. In addition, television shows like Miami Vice used South Beach as a backdrop for much of its filming. A somewhat recurring theme of early Miami Vice episodes was thugs and drug addicts barricading themselves in run-down or empty buildings. Only minor alterations had to be made for these scenes because some buildings in South Beach were in poor condition at the time. While many of the unique Art Deco buildings, such as the New Yorker Hotel, were lost to developers in the years before 1980, the area was saved as a cohesive unit by Barbara Baer Capitman and a group of activists who spearheaded the movement to place almost one square mile of South Beach on the National Register of Historic Places. The Miami Beach Architectural District was designated in 1979. Before the days of Miami Vice, South Beach was considered a very poor area with a very high rate of crime. Today, it is considered one of the wealthiest and most prosperous commercial areas on the beach. In 2009, the Miami New Times said, "Until the 1980s, Miami Beach was a peculiar mix of criminals, Cubans, and little old ladies. Then the beautiful people moved in." You can see many models and their photographers on the streets and beaches of South Beach....almost every day.....some American, some from overseas...all taking advantage of the beautiful setting. Thomas Kramer is credited with starting the construction boom in South Beach, driving the gentrification of the area. It is now a popular living destination for the wealthy. Condominium units in the upscale high rises sell for millions. There are a number of vocal critics of the developments. The high-rise and high-density buildings are derided as a "concrete jungle". However, even critics concede that the development has changed the area into a pedestrian friendly, low-crime neighborhood. In both daytime and at nightfall, the South Beach section of Miami Beach is a major entertainment destination with hundreds of nightclubs, restaurants, boutiques and hotels. The area is popular with tourists from Canada, Europe, Israel and the entire Western Hemisphere, with some having permanent or second homes there. South Beach has also been visited by many American and foreign tourists, evidenced by the fact that the practice of topless sunbathing by women on the beach and in a few hotel pools on Miami Beach has been considered by the local citizens as being more permissive than on most beaches of the United States, and despite the fact that the practice has not been officially legalized by the local government, it continues to be adopted in large scale. The last few times I have visited, I noticed a certain disarray at night...people walking all over with their expensive cars and clothes and doing whatever they want...no one to tell them what to do....a bit of a craziness....that is not my style. Daytime is a bit more relaxed, where you see families, locals and tourists enjoy the beach, the restaurants and the shopping...more of my style... Anyway you experience it, it is a beautiful setting with beautiful people. read more

Miami won the toss! This was my first ever visit to Florida. I initially thought of going to Orlando, however, now that I no longer have a lil' kid, Miami had the right amout of adult atmosphere for me. I'm completely gratified with the stay. Between South Beach and The Keys, I liked the beach in South Beach better. With its expanse of bright soft sand and some seaweed, but not too many shells poking my soles, there was plenty of space to social distance and enough sun to soak up. The time of my visit was pleasant, during the second or so week of May. Although there were spurts of torrential rains, that didn't inhibit my plans all too much. I was even able enjoy a little quality time with one of my guru buddies, Sean. What you could get and find in the South Beach area are lots of restaurants in walking distance, especially the beautiful blue waters of the beach! Nightlife and dinnertime are lively! Then take a short drive away to other hotspots in the area like Little Havana and Vizcaya Gardens. These are just a couple places I fit into my work-ation. Ask the locals for some suggestions! A museum I wanted to visit was closed temporarily. I honestly need to return to checkoff my bookmarks. read more

Oh South beach how I adore you!   Everyone has heard of Ocean Drive, sSouth Beach, Miami in General, right? and righly so. Come here for the vibrancy, cocktails, good food, shocking behaviour, funny behaviour and generally "in your face" good time. Come here to see the beach, the art deco architecture, to people watch ie to watch people getting drunk, partying, getting burnt, roller blading, working out or just generally posing!! oh and the smell of pot is ALWAYS in the air. read more
