Not a lot of shade in our spot, we went during the summer so we pretty much were baking in the sun. The bathrooms get dirty very fast. They do clean them every morning, but it doesn't stay clean by evening. Too many people. It's very crowded, lots of people everywhere and waiting for everything. Has the theme park experience. The shuttle is constantly running into the park from the campground. We had to wait for an hour each way on a Friday for it. There's no other way up unless you are staying at the hotel. Parking is limited and the shuttle is pretty much mandatory. A ton of locals came in that day randomly and it was super packed. The rest of our stay we only had to wait 5 mins for the shuttle. You have to buy coins for the shower either at the showers or at the local sports shop, it's walking distance from the campground. The showers are not at the campground, but next to the sports shop. They closed early one day and the machine at the showers was broken so we couldn't buy coins. We were hot, sweaty and covered in sunscreen so it was pretty miserable to skip a shower. We planned ahead the rest of the trip and didn't have to buy coins last minute. Showers get busy and there is a wait. read more

This campsite was really fun. Due to the dry weather, fires were not allowed, but that did not impede the experience. There's a stream run I no through at the bottom that has a lot of good spots to sit and hang out. This campsite is also super close to all the tourist destinations and the shuttle, so it's super convenient. Highly recommend. read more

Very nice to be directly in the park with only 0.2 mile walk to the visitor center and town. Staff were friendly, sites were a decent size and the sites along the Virgin River were really nice with some grass. Ours was a dirt site, which made it really dusty and dirty when the wind came up, as well as really hard ground (difficult to get tent pegs hammered in). But, we loved it. Location is everything. The only reason it's not getting 5 stars is because it would greatly benefit from getting showers installed! Hopefully one day they will get some. The bathrooms could also use a bit of TLC. There isn't much choice when it comes to camping in Zion near the popular hikes. You have South campground or Watchmen. This is first come first serve for south campground . Upon arriving early (8-10am) the entrance booth will say "full" which isn't true. They don't really keep track, go and look for a camp site anyways. Other reviews will tell you to come around 10 (when everyone is checking out) I say its WRONG! Come earlier! On popular days (Thursday-Saturday) come as early as 8! We came at 10 exactly on Thursday and could not find a spot! We talked to some people and somehow managed to find the last (undesired) spot in the campground. Here's how it works: 1. Pick up the envelope at the entrance and fill it out 2. Drive around and stop at your desire campsite and check the yellow ticket on the pole for the date and how many nights they are staying 3. Even if the current campers aren't out of their campsite but checking out the same day, you can claim it by putting your top half of the yellow envelope there (we didn't know this until someone told us) 4. Wait til current campers leave 5. Another option is be aggressive and ask campers if they are leaving Also, everyone is EXTREMELY nice, just ask and anybody will help you. We were shy first but realize it's freaking Utah man, not California. We got help from everybody! Campsite: Really close to your neighbors... Campground is hard and full of rocks, good luck staking your tent to the ground. Our campsite (52) was probably the worst. No shade, and somehow it was continuously wet due to the small creek next to us... So our fire pit and everything near the creek was wet. And by creek it's really not a creek you'll see it. No showers, we washed off in the Virgin river, which was nice and refreshing after a hike! Bathrooms were pretty dirty... Looks like they don't clean it often. But plenty of toilet paper and have soap but no paper towels. Campsite is close to the visitors center... You can catch the first bus out. Which is highly recommended on popular hikes. Campsite hosts are extremely nice! They wave and do their camp runs hourly. Since the campground is so close to your neighbors, make friends or hope you don't get loud partiers. We got unlucky for one night and had a group of Vegas partiers. Easily fit 2-3 cars. Beware of bees! They love meat. We cooked steak, salmon, Cioppino, bacon and they swarmed us. Also watch out for cockroaches at night! We thought it was our campsite but walked around and saw tons everywhere! But only one night... If must be something in the weather for them to come out. We luckily found only one roach in our tent... It's not the best campground but it's a better alternative to being outdoor and not paying for that pricey hotel room. Just an amazing campsite. Watchman had electric hookups, but our reservations were canceled last minute due to construction and we were saved two spots at the South Campground to accommodate our two RVs that required at least a 35' back in or pull through. This site is perfect and close to all the areas you'd need to use to get to the shuttles and other park facilities. Been to Yosemite and this has by far blown us away. Totally different. And you have cell coverage. That's good and bad however you want to look at it. Bathrooms are near by with flushing toilets and running water. Very clean. Robin Mueller did a great job to ensure we got our spots since our reservations that were made 6 months prior, were cancelled. Looking forward to being back maybe this summer and next year for spring break again. read more

You've got quite a few options in terms of overnight stays near Zion National Parks. There are plenty of lodges nearby and 2 campgrounds inside the park. I can't say that this site is as good as Watchman, but it doesn't fall short of the standards. There are a good number of restrooms spread out through the site. The one closest to me was closed for maintenance so that was a bummer but the water spout was functional. There is a water spout with potable water near every bathroom. The bathrooms aren't super clean but it's not filthy either. The bathrooms have mirrors in them with sinks that flow water with a twist rather than with a press, so that you have keep the water running for as long as you need it without having to constantly press. Most of the sites here are for RV's but there are plenty of people doing tent camping of course. For that reason though, the ground is super tough and rocky. Be sure to do your best to move around the rocks on the floor before you set up your tent or else you will suffer from the rocks if you're going bare back to floor. Be sure to bring some sort of hammer or mallet for the tough grounds. I was hammering in my tent stakes with rocks and the rock split, luckily my neighbor allowed me to borrow their mallet. I would definitely come here again if I missed my opportunity to book at Watchman. One of the coolest things about this site is that you get to book through a 2 week window. I calculated that once the sites opened up, within 15 minutes the available sites were taken so be fast. read more

We arrived to zion national park at 3AM on a Thursday. As you enter, the first campsite is Watchmen, it is a walk on, so we checked it out. the sign said it was full, so we just pulled out. we drove around the corner to South Campground, as you pull in, it will say site is FULL, and then theres a sign that says line forms here. You pull up and wait in line until hosts appears around 630-7AM. we pulled up and was the second car in line around 3AM. around 630-7 there was tonsssssssss of cars waiting behind us. luckily its NOT a holiday wknd, so being 2nd in line was wonderful! the host said theres a few spots open, and asked us if we wanted to be near the river. we said YES! we got campsite 82 or was it 92..it was directly across the opening to the river. and close enough to the restroom. and it is steps away from pra rus trail? which leads to the visitor center and the shuttles (10 mins walk to it) campsite was $20 a day, and check out is 11AM. if you wish to stay longer you can renew before 11AM. bathrooms were uber clean! water is only located near the restrooms for drinking and cooking. showers? you have to go to visitor center where you rent all the gears for hiking. its $4 for 5 mins. pretty pricey! lived camping here!! will def do again! read more

By the time we came around to this campground, we had just recently camped at 3 other national parks. So we thought, the process must be the same - get to the campground as early as you can, drive around and look for an empty spot, if there's no tag on the post then the site is yours. However, when we got to Zion, we soon realized that they do it kind of different here where they assign you a campsite. Luckily for us, our campsite was near one of the popular easy hike and near the bathroom as well. Location wise, the campground is easy to find. It's right at the beginning of the entrance. There are pros and cons to that. Pros - other than being near the entrance, you are also near the visitor center and near a number of stores and restaurants just outside of the park's entrance. Very convenient if you ever you need more camping supplies or food. Cons - because the campground is near the entrance and a parking lot where visitors who aren't camping can park, it can be very noisy. Something I'd like to avoid especially if the main reason for camping is to get away from all that. Do be prepared. It so happens that on our last camping trip at the last national park on our list for this trip, there were a couple of mishaps. The ground at our campsite was really rocky that we could not even get one spike into the ground. We ended up holding down our tent with rocks. That night was really windy as well, good thing we tied down our tent pretty good lol. The next morning, we were woken up to very loud roaring of thunder. We spent most of the morning sleeping in our car. Although these all seem like misfortunes, it made our camping trip an unforgettable one. read more

This is no longer a first come, first serve campground. Reservations open up at approximately 10 am EST exactly 2 weeks before the date that you'd like to book. Similar to other national parks, there is no check-in process. You drive to your site, which should have your name pinned to a sign. Upon leaving, remove the note with your name on it and deposit it in the box at the entrance of the campground As for the site, I liked it. From the entrance booth of the park, continue driving straight ignoring the Visitor center/Watchman campground sign and it'll soon be on your right hand side. There are pros and cons with the site being situated not far from the entrance. As others mentioned, many cars pass through Zion and depending on your site, this could be slightly distracting if you are a light sleeper. There are two bathrooms within the campground. One was out of order, which made it a bit of an inconvenience for the entire campground to share two stalls in a pretty messy bathroom. Long lines in the morning meant it was much more convenient to just walk to the visitor center bathrooms, which were much larger and cleaner. It did take some time to find ground that wasn't too hard to put tent stakes in, and my particular site also seemed to have several large ant mounds. Lastly, the Pa'rus trail goes directly through the campground and I highly recommend it Other things about the site - You will have phone signal, and you are also within a short walk of the shuttle as well as the showers/laundromat at Zion outfitters ($4 for 5 mins). There are machines that will accept credit card payment and give you a shower token. Zion outfitters will also supply you with dry suits if you wish to hike the Narrows. I opted for the shoes/suit/walking stick package without the bibb, which was ~$44 after tax. Overall, a pleasant stay and one that I definitely recommend. read more

We arrived at the South Campground on a Tuesday morning around 10am and found the perfect campsite, #60! The campsite had plenty of shade all day and is right along the Pa'Rus bike trail and the Virgin River! We biked the trail and played in the River of course! We were just a short walk to the bathroom. The bathrooms were decent, sink with soap & flushing toilets, no showers, and no hand dryers or towels. There were deer in the campground, they just walk around grazing on vegetation and don't seem bothered by people. The park shuttle was a 3 minute walk from the campsite. We hopped on the shuttle and hiked the Emerald Pools and the Narrows, highly recommend both. read more

FIRST COME FIRST SERVE CAMPGROUND! Lava Point Campground is also another first come first serve campground, however they have no water and pit toilets. Watchman Campground is first come first serve from December 1 to February 26, however the number of camp spots open to that varies. South Campground has 126 spots and it still amazes me how fast this campground fills up. We arrived at 10am MT and wow.... we were SO LUCKY to get a camp spot. Literally every camp spot was filled and my friends and I were running to each asking people if they were leaving or not. I thought we were seriously not going to find one but finally, we did. Thank goodness. We got Campsite 40 which was right across the restrooms. Tips: - Even if the campground sign says "full", I would still go in and check it out because you never know if someone is leaving or not. -I highly highly highly recommend getting there early to reserve a camp spot. On our trip, I've seen people come between 5-7 am, just waiting and asking around if people are leaving and if they can take their spot. - The ground is quite hard and rocky so I recommend bringing a yoga mat or those camping foam pads to sleep on with your sleeping bag. How to Reserve: 1. Get a yellow envelope at the Kiosk when you enter the campground. 2. Find an open camp spot. Ones that do not have the yellow tag or the "occupied" sign on the wooden posts. You can also read the yellow tag and see when the campers are leaving or how many nights they are staying. 3. Fill out the envelope. 4. Tear off the tab and clip it on the wooden post. 5. Put the payment in the envelope (takes cash or card). 6. Put the envelope in the payment cylinder. Price: $16 per night; $8 per night for Senior or Access Pass Maximum: 6 people per site; 3 tents; 2 cars or 1 car + 1 RV They have restrooms and firepits. Lots of insects in the restrooms at night, be aware! Showers are also available at the Zion Outfitters (I think that's what the store is called) near the entrance where the shuttle takes you to Springdale (behind the Visitor Center). It cost $5 for 7 mins, quite expensive. This is an awesome campground since you're close to the visitor center (walkable) and are surrounded by Zion's beautiful red rocks and mountains. You are also close to the shuttle since the first stop is at the visitor center. Mule deer also stumble upon this campground. read more

2 friends and I camped for the first time in late June. We were fortunate enough to get a really sweet spot with views of the red rock along the river. Each spot is spaced out enough so that you are not cramped or hear your neighbors next to you. We arrived around 8AM to stake out for a site. We asked the people before us if we could take their spot after they were done packing. We were able to park our car there as they were cleaning up and left to hike Angel's Landing for the day. Each site is $16/night and you can stay there for a good amount of days (you can ask the rangers at the entrance). The restrooms are dispersed around the ground and all within a few min walking distance from where you are. Each have 3 stalls and 1 sink and were kept clean. I didn't find it crowded at all when washing up. There's a drinking fountain where you can get water outside of each restroom along with trash bins. There are no trash cans on your campsite so make sure you have a bag to collect your rubbish. Each site has a campfire pit, however we were cautioned that we could not use it due to fire hazards during this season. There are no hookups and no showers. There are public showers at Zion Outfitters just outside the park entrance for $5 for 5 min. Our site was 5 min walking distance to the Zion park info center which has the nearest shuttle stop. You can dispose of your propane can at the entrance of south campground. Tips: - Arrive EARLY - there is no specific time you can enter and stake out for a campsite. Many people are packing and leaving their site around 5-6AM. 7:30-8:30AM would be a reasonable time to come. - Before you enter into the campground, pick up a payment envelope so that you can drop your money in after you have chosen your site. You can pay by cash, check or credit card. This saves you a lot of time going back and forth. - Make sure you tear off the slip on the payment envelope and fill out the info and clip it onto the post on your site before leaving. South Campground - Our perfect campsite - Campgrounds Near Me - Springdale, Utah

The layout of the campground is nice, although the sites here tend to be smaller than those at Watchman Campground. The sites are nice (and flat). The river is a short walking distance away. The views are phenomenal! So why not five stars? I've camped here five times over the past nine years, and ever time I've visited the roach infestation is worse than the time before. And they are those GIANT breed of roaches. The place is absolutely swarming with them at night! It's disgusting. There's too many @$$hole campers that blatantly ignore the signs that say "DON'T dump your food down the drains" and who throw trash (food) into the bins that say "Recyclables ONLY". And the NPS doesn't seem to empty the campground dumpsters and recycle bins nearly as often as they should anyway, so they are always overflowing. They don't keep the bathrooms as clean as they should either. This used to be a five-star place, and it could be once again, IF the people that camp there would bother to practice basic campground etiquette, and IF the NPS would do a better job of keeping the place clean, and IF they'd nuke the bathrooms and dumpsters with bug spray (granted, part of their problem probably boils down to the fact that the morons in Washington chronically under-fund our national parks...but that's a whole other conversation.). Anyway, Zion National Park is still a five-star (heck, it's a ten-star) park, and totally worth visiting. But if you want to car camp in the valley there, then this place or Watchman Campground (which is 100 yards away from South and suffers from the same issues) is your only ticket. read more

My sister and I planned a last minute trip to Zion National Park and were bummed to find all campground spots already taken through advance reservation online, but luckily enough the south campground is first come first serve and gives those last minute people a chance. We arrived Tuesday morning from Vegas at approximately 0930, there is a one hour time difference so do keep that in mind. I left from Vegas before 6 am thinking we would arrive by 830 around, only to realize my phone wasn't playing tricks on me when it said arrival time 0930 although through calculations I should arrive at 0830. We get to the park and read big sign that says camps full, but we didn't let that stop us from trying. And luckily when we got closer to the booth we saw another small sign that said south campground vacancy. But the whole drive every car I saw I thought of as competition. Most of the spots were taken, but there were still a handful of spots left. I assume a lot of people were there for previous day. The campgrounds are spacious, good for two cars to park into. Bathrooms are clean. No bugs. Nice fire pit and table with benches. Located by the river AND the visitors center, which also happens to be a location for shuttle stop. During the summer shuttles run around every 10 minutes or so throughout the park makes everything really easy and less stressful. There's running water but no showers. Who showers anyway ;) but I would definitely like to return to camp here again. read more

Get there early!!! Arrived on a Friday in May at 7:30am (campground officially opens at 8am) and there was already a huge line of cars and RVs waiting. They let each car in as soon as a car leaves a campground open, so you're basically just there waiting for people to pack up, and hoping that enough people are leaving that you'll get a spot. It took about 2 hours of waiting before we got a spot, and the ~10 cars behind us were also able to get spots, but after that there were definitely cars in line that were out of luck. It wasn't even a holiday weekend or anything. The campgrounds themselves are very nice - the bathrooms are clean, and each site comes with a fire pit and a picnic table. Very close to the visitor center and shuttles which bring you to the hiking trails. No showers. read more

South Campground is a first come first serve campground for all you spontaneous campers out there. It's $16 a night - $8 if you have an access pass. There's running water (no showers), clean restrooms (I saw about 2 restroom buildings in the entire camp), a picnic table, fire pit, and two parking spots per site. Each site is extremely spacious with enough room for 2 tents. 6 total people to each site. Before you enter the site, there will be a sign out that either says "camp full" or "vacant." Do not be discouraged if it's "full." Park your car in a line and at around 6:30am a ranger will come out, give you an envelope, and allow you to quietly drive around the campground to try and find an empty site. Usually you can see campers packing up - kindly ask if they are leaving and they would be more happy to reserve the spot for you as you wait for them to pack up & leave (Campers are the nicest!) Finding an opened site has more to do with luck then being the first car in line. Although being early does not hurt. It's quite possibly one of the best first come first serve campgrounds I've been too. The rangers are extremely friendly and helpful. The Virgin River runs through along the edge and makes sleeping + relaxation super peaceful. You're a 5-10 min walk from the Visitors Center and shuttle buses (these come around every 4 min so there's never a need to rush. Stress doesn't exist here). And the Zion Market is less than a 5 minute drive away. Beautiful Zion rocks surround the mountains. Trees are bountiful, but do not block your view of the Milky Way at night. Plus, you can see deers roaming freely without anyone bothering them. South Campground made camping a breeze! read more

Wish we got a more shaded spot but we didn't reserve quick enough, oh well. Still a nice campground! Pretty quiet considering how busy Zion is. Rangers were nice and helpful, bathrooms were decent. It was really hard to get tent stakes in, ended up skipping half of them, good thing it wasn't windy. Camp site had more than enough space, could have easily put 3 tents up, several cars and still had room which was much more than the sites I'm used to. Had deer wandering through my site often during our stay, that was pretty cool. Didn't get to do much hiking since I had kids, but someday I'll go back for that. There is a stroller friendly trail though by the river & visitors center. Zion is beautiful and a must visit! Drove through the tunnel also, it was a bumpy ride inside it but really cool and the views on either side are amazing! The lines for the shuttles are insane so I am glad I decided on not going deeper into Zion for hiking, as much as I wanted to. read more

Cannot believe this campground got 4/5 stars. We stayed two nights and our experience was horrible. Loud! Be prepared to listen to other campers late into the night. Our second night we witnessed park rangers going around to camp sites asking people for id. They stopped at a site near us and proceeded to arrest and search the vehicle and site. I was ready to duck and take cover. BTW we arrived at 8:00 am and waited in a car line for 3 hours. We were the second to last car to get a site. Every one else (at least 15 cars) were out of luck. It was the most inefficient check in I've ever seen. read more

Unlike the Watchman Campground nearby, this one is on a first-come-first-served basis and does not accept reservations. We arrived past 2 pm on our arrival date and were told by the ranger when we entered the East entrance that the South Campground was completely full and we needed to stay at other lodging places outside of the park. Undeterred we went to the campground anyway and we were very lucky that the campground host told us that two sites just opened up 30 minutes ago. We picked a site that was little further away from the main road. The location of the campground is excellent and deserves 5-stars. Not only are the views of surrounding mountains and Virgin River that runs nearby fantastic, but the campground is in walking distance of the Visitors' Center as well as shuttle bus stop to get to the town of Springdale. However, there are serious negatives that need to be addressed. First, the bathroom facilities are old and decrepit as well as being an insect magnet during nights. Our camp site had millions of ants and the ground was rock hard; is was if were were pitching a tent on pavement. Furthermore, there is no public shower facilities anywhere within the park; very uncomfortable after a long day of hiking in a hot and dry climate. The nearest public showering facility is at the Zion Outfitter outdoor gear rental shop near the Springdale shuttle bus stop (across the pedestrian bridge past the Visitors' Center ) and the shop charges $5 for a 7 minute shower in a small room the size of a very small closet. There are only two showers and people waited in line to use these showers. The water temperature thermostat was not working well one of the nights (it was either scalding hot or ice cold) and the shop refunded the money to us for our inconveniences. I would hope the US Congress gets its act together and appropriate more money to the Dept. of the Interior. Both Zion and Bryce Canyon campgrounds need serous updating. It is unfortunate since Zion is one of the most beautiful national parks that I have ever been to. read more

South Campground is a first come first served site. I recommend coming here at 7 am and no later than 9. The line was already pretty long at 7:30am and they were full by 9am. Waiting in line in your car isn't bad. We made sandwiches and were able to hit the restroom and clean up our road trip evidence around the car. They will hand you your envelope to fill out and place your money inside. $20 a night. You'll insert it inside the canister once it's your time to enter. After passing the line with flying colors you have to navigate to your assigned site. It's pretty complicated with random roads everywhere but thankfully the sites are marked. I loved our spot at south campground!! It was perfectly in the middle of the sites and near the restrooms but not to where you can hear it. We were there in August and were thankful for the shady trees. At night it got windy so make sure your tent is secure!! South Campground is a 20 min walk to the visitor center. I highly recommend you go there to get the down low on hikes. I was against it but it was very useful. read more

I stayed here early in June for a couple of nights during the week. The campground still seemed pretty crowded. For the most part I loved my stay here. Most of the campspots were nice. Mine was in the middle and had a decent amount of shade for the most part. I saw some on the outer edges near the virgin river that seemed to have no shade at all. The bathrooms seemed clean for the most part. There is a water station next to the bathrooms where you can supply yourself with drinking water for your hikes. The campground is a very short walk to the visitor center where there are shuttles that will take you all throughout the park. The views are spectacular. One of the evenings a couple of deer wandered into my neighbors spot and mine and were just eating the grass. I just sat there and watched it. So awesome to see something like that right in front of you. There are no showers. Hey guess what, you are camping, shouldn't be that big of a deal. The Virgin River is right there and you can jump in to cool off and remove the sweat and dirt from your body. My only problem was it was hard for me to find a spot. I got there between 8:30-9am and I think I drove around for 30-40 minutes before finding one. I'm not sure i'm a fan of the way it works. You just have to look for a spot without any papers or envelopes hanging from the spot number. Overall, I really loved my stay here and would easily recommend it. Make sure you hike the narrows and go pretty deep, you won't be disappointed. read more

Arrived at the south campgrounds at 5:13am Saturday October 22,2016. Was the 2nd car in line. Ranger came at 715am with envelope to fill out to have ready for when spots available. Once he gave the signal to come to the front he picked spot #42 for us. I had asked for spot 74 since it's right on the river. No one had reserved it but the ranger didn't give it to us. So once we got to #42 and set everything up, I realized what a great spot we have! Restrooms literally right next to us. They are super clean. The view isn't bad either! I definitely wanted the river view but I'm still grateful we got a spot since the line was ridiculously long at 7am. Ranger told us only 37 available spots for the day. Definitely were more cars than that so we were lucky to arrive at the right time. The wind is insane at night! Weather absolutely beautiful during the day but freezing by night. Would recommend this camping grounds to anyone! Especially spot #42 read more

These campgrounds are very well kept and bathrooms are so clean. All staff were incredibly helpful and accommodating to ensure all our questions were answered to enjoy our stay. This is first time I've been during tourist season when the shuttle runs. The shuttle was directly across from the campgrounds and super convenient. read more

Camp is great. The woman checking campers in is rude. Very rude. We came in at 3am to get a spot, and when she came in at 7am she went crazy because we were parked in the wrong place. What happened, and she admited it, is that they did not properly put in the sign up the night before, so i parked where there was a huge sign that said "sign up here".. btw, its 5 feet from where she wanted us. She made a huge deal and made us move and, even we were first in line she gave us the info for registering last. She at the end let us in first but it really made our first impresion terrible and made me very upset and there was no need. Very, very rude. I could not believe it. And she made you feel that if you complained she would not let you in. read more

The fact that the campground is right in the national park is a big plus. YOu also can easily walk to the bus, that you have to take, and leave your car on your camping spot. But - there is not much shadow in most of the areas and the restrooms are ok-but if you have a problem with insects.....mhhh We wanted to change the camp spot because of the heat-which was confirmed earlier by the campground host- but someone took our piece of paper off and put theirs there. Not really the campgrounds fault, but they didn´t ask the people to move and just put us on a spot which was even hotter... We lived on the edge and tried to get one of the first come, first serve campsites at the South campground during the middle of August. Luckily it was a Thursday, and we arrived at 7:30. We waited in line for about two hours and were about the eighth car in line. However like the other reviews say, there was a long line of cars behind us and probably enough not enough campsites to accommodate that number of campers. The time went by fast, and you can walk to the restroom if you need to when you're waiting in line. Campsites open up as campers leave, and check out is at 11. The campground is basic, with no showers but they do have toilets and sinks. In addition, there is water for washing dishes. The campsite is within walking distance of the visitor center, which connects you to the shuttle to go to all the trailheads. Our campsite was amazing, it was more than enough space and the campfire was clean when we arrived. It was very windy at night, and we did have trouble sleeping. We thought there was a storm in the area but we later learned that it is like this every night so bring earplugs or headphones if you're a light sleeper. We didn't have any trouble with loud campers in the area, and were happy with the accommodations considering it's $20 per campsite. Make sure you check out the stars before you go to sleep because the views of the towering cliffs with the clear skies are not to be missed. read more

Great park, entrance close by. We arrived early morning 8am because its first come first serve we stayed 1 night at campsite 60. It's a perfect location right by the river but be warned! If it rains, these lower camp sites will get flooded and muddy. We had a hit a few trails on our way back it started to pour. Once we got back the whole camp was flooded and the reddish sand had made a really thick mud. Other than that it's beautiful out there really enjoyed all the trails n random critters walkin around. The good news here is that the scenery is awesome, the campground is walking distance to the Visitor's Center, the river runs through (tent campers can camp very close) and the campground host Mike is very helpful. The bad news is that during busy times people start driving around the campground very early in the morning looking for sites and asking you if you're leaving when you've just awoken. I think NPS could do a better job with the way the sites turn over to avoid unnecessary disturbances to the campers already there. read more

Absolutely loved this campground. Came on a weekday around 7 am and it was first come first serve. There was someone at the entrance who assigned incoming campers spots as people left. I thought this was very efficient and organized. The campground is located very close to the visitor's center, which is extremely convenient to catch the shuttle. Overall great camping spot, can't wait to return. read more
