Went here on a lark, it was a beautiful morning to air out the convertible and just drive. Picked this place because of its near the Chesapeake Bay location. Ordered the two egg breakfast platter and have the following thoughts: the home fries were exceptional, the wheat berry toast was hearty and tasty, the eggs (over-medium) were nicely cooked and the ham was interesting, and good, but not quite what I expected...as it was shaved ham that had been kinda folded like you would to make a sandwich, but then grilled lightly. All in all, it was quite good. Final thought: I'm going back for one of those crab cakes and maybe some shrimp - they looked worthy. read more

The food was fine. However, they seem to have a policy of completely ignoring their customers. I was standing at the counter to place an order, and five different employees saw me and went on with their business. After standing there for at least three minutes, I said "Hello?" They looked at me again, and I said "Does anybody work here?" One employee smirked and said sarcastically "What can I get you?" Does the owner know how these employees are treating their customers? An excellent find. It is a little odd that only Friday and Saturday offer a traditional restaurant experience. It's part cafe, part restaurant. On the other days, food is brought to the table but not tablecloths and no coming to your table to refill drinks, etc. There is outside seating during warmer weather and takeout service. It looks like a great place to be once spring finally happens. But the weather is not the reason to come here. The food is genuinely good. The crab cake had only enough filler to keep it together and no more. The mashed potatoes were seasoned perfectly. Local cafes typically don't serve such fresh ingredients. And the owner catches a lot of his own fish!!! What made them stand out and why we will make the drive to return is the service Just so nice!!! Imagine visiting your best friend's family for the first time. That's how we were treated. The owner, staff and server could not have been nicer. We look forward to coming back again soon. read more

Good food and specials but over priced for what it is. Everything seems to be ala cart. So if you want a sandwich chips and a drink, after tip your walking out to the tune of $15-17 dollars. The dinning area is kinda a goofy old house, thats dry and rickety. And its not quite clear if you're being served or serving yourself. My family got breakfast there this morning and it was awful.the eggs had black stuff all through them possibly from a dirty grill.no butter on the bread .the sandwich had no flavor bacon egg and cheese. First off, I'm a fan of cute little places. I mean who can say no to them? That said, this cafe is just a knock-your-socks-off kind of adorable little place. Set at a town where apparently retirees are and the sailing customers dock, this place sets up its ambiance quite nicely. Very laid back, with plenty of nautical accessories hanging off the walls. Even with a laid-back atmosphere, this place is very clean and it has really friendly cashier/ servers. I ordered the grilled tuna steak sandwich and was asked how I wanted it done. I asked for medium rare. As soon as my dish came out, I immediately gobbled it down. I wouldn't score my grilled tuna steak very high on the looks department but the taste is just heavenly. The old bay, mustard and mayo combination complemented each other so well. Not one ingredient overpowered the other. The tuna steak is really a big hunk of meat too. With that said, it came at a very affordable price of $9. It's a good deal considering the big hunk of meat and the flavor of happiness that you are buying. Ps. They are open on Sundays despite the Yelp listed hours! Just order at the counter and they will bring the food out to your table. This seems to be a popular cafe and its where the locals go. The prices are reasonable and the menu is your standard fare of sandwiches, salads, and local seafood. I got blue fish (first time) as the catch of the day and it was very tasty. This past Wednesday, I stopped at the South County Cafe to get a bacon, lettuce and tomato sandwich and some onion rings for take-out. When I placed my order, I asked if I could have the BLT on rye toast and have mustard instead of mayonnaise. The clerk, Madison, said of course. Now when I arrived at my house, I found that yes, the sandwich was on rye bread, but was not toasted, and had mayonnaise but no mustard. Went for a little road trip to West Marine at Herrington Harbor. We were hungry and decided to get something in the area. Wow, talk about a restaurant wasteland. South county is not exactly a ghost town, so we were surprised at the lack of any substantial choices for food. We thought we hit pay dirt when we saw the little cottage with it's picnic tables out front. As we walked in, I noticed a glass case by the counter was filled with homemade salads, like pasta, potato, chicken, tuna, egg and coleslaw. Signs advertised homemade soups and pies baked fresh daily. What's not to like??? A chalkboard showcased the day's specials. We opted to split the Hot Roast Beef Sub with sauteed onions, lettuce, horseradish cream sauce and melted provolone (and a side of fries). Prices here were more big city than tiny town. But hey, if it is good fresh food, we will support the local establishments. We sat at one of the tables outside. I took menus (breakfast/lunch and then dinner served only Fri & Sat.) to peruse while we waited for our food. After a brief peek, I noticed our sandwich was on the regular menu, same description same price. How does that become one of the specials of the day? Got extra beef you need to unload? Anyway, it took quite awhile for our lunch to be made, but they were nice enough to bring it out to us. Fries were a major bummer as they came coated with some stuff. Leave the spud alone. The sub bun was super pale but was a good fit for the sandwich. Unfortunately, we could not taste the sauce, the onions, nor the cheese. It was an ok sandwich, but not what was advertised. We live inside the DC beltway (Maryland side) so a ride to Deale is a great way to spend a Saturday or Sunday morning. So far we have only tried breakfast but it is great. The home fries are crunchy, irregularly cut, deep fried potato chunks. Always order home fries even if they aren't part of your meal. Seriously, the home fries are worth the trip alone. The food is reliable, home-style, and just good. If you are looking for a nice drive, tell your GPS to avoid highways and head to Deale for breakfast or brunch. I've eaten here many times in the last 8 years. The food is excellent, but they use disposable plates and utensils. None of it recyclable. Every time I am in there the trash cans are full. They aren't a carry-out restaurant. If they started using real plates and utensils I would go more. read more

South county cafe has always been my go to for breakfast or quick lunch. But the last 2 times, the service has gone down big time. Few months back I ordered breakfast online. I stop there after 15 min, they usually ready but not this time. After asking 2 staffs to check both said it is coming. After 30 min of wait, the third one went into the kitchen and found the kitchen never pick up the order and told me they were working on it. After 10 min she found out she looked at a wrong ticket and mine was misplaced. She asked if I still want it. I declined but she charged my credit card anyway. And yes she charged me! Second time 2 weeks ago, the elderly cashier was just focus on the machine and didn't even bother to ask if we need help. And I ordered she was very rude and if me and my friend bothering her. Food quality is still good but service went down. The younger staffs are always helpful. Hope they will do something with their service. read more

We went here 4 years ago when we were boat shopping for breakfast and decided to give it another try now that our boat is docked in Deale for a few days. We went for lunch and ordered the fish and chips and the Metropolitan salad. The fish was blue fish and was very good. Their fries are the coated kind, not our favorite but they were hot and good. The coleslaw was good, so all in all not a bad lunch if you get the fish and chips. The Metropolitan salad is a salad with mandarin oranges, grapes and a scoop of chicken salad. They make their chicken salad with honey mustard instead of mayo. Different but pretty good. You can eat inside, outside at picnic tables or get your food to go. People working there are pretty friendly and all in all a good overall experience. read more

Having only been here once, I have a limited perspective but the experience I did have was a very nice one. I must say with regret that I did not have the pie, but will definitely add that to the list for my next visit....and there will definitely be a next visit. From the outside, the place looks TINY, but when you step inside you notice that the seating wraps around up the stairs and the place shares space with an adorable antique shop, which lends itself to some interesting conversation pieces while enjoying your meal. If the weather is nice, they also have several picnic tables set up outside, which I highly recommend. As for the food....I had the turkey chili with cornbread and it was delicious! Prices were reasonable, with the chili and cornbread only being around $5. But I have to say, the smell of deep frying was almost more than I could resist, so I'm 99.9% sure that the next time I visit I'll have something terribly bad for me but equally as delicious. read more

South County Cafe is a hidden gem in Deale, MD. Basically an upgraded takeout joint run out of a catering company's kitchen. Don't be fooled by the picnic benches, this is gourmet food. First, it is probably the best place for breakfast in the area. Favorites are anything involving their biscuits and sausage. Second, a few nights a week the chef does dinner. We had crab cake platter and rockfish imperial. Amazing dishes. The crab cake is all jumbo lump crab meat. Side of fantastic mashed redskin potatoes with a hint of garlic. Green beans and corn bread round it out. Nothing greasy or too buttery. All crab, tiny amount of filler. The rockfish dish is a standout. For starters the piece of fish is HUGE and really fresh. How fresh? Well, there is a commercial fisherman who keeps his office in the place. Imperial was mostly crab. Orzo side and green beans round it out. Now onto the pies. How to say this? Their cherry pie and peach pie is what they are supposed to taste like. Run, don't walk to South County Cafe. read more

Seriously an amazing spot. Everything is delicious and it has great "local" charm. I'm knocking off a star for two reasons - (1) Their coffee milk/creamer situation is sub-par. They only have the little creamers so you have to use about 10 if you like a healthy splash of cream in your coffee. I don't understand why they don't put out a carafe of cream?? (2) They don't open early enough on a weekday to grab coffee/breakfast on your way to work. I would stop in at 7:00 am every days they were open. read more

A great little hidden gem. Discovered this pace in 2010 when the Mrs and I were looking for a place to take some pictures by the water one Saturday morning before our wedding. Best breakfast around. Have done the weekend dinner a couple of times. It's been our go to place for fast breakfast and small family get togethers. My soon to be 95 year mom loves the crab cakes and fresh baked pies. Went to call in an order today and was rudely told by one of their employees that they could not accommodate an allergy to a specific food product. Have gone and eaten her many times before and they had accolades it just fine with no issues. Very dissatisfied with the way I was spoken to. Being told they can't do anything for me.
